– North Texas HC Job: You may or may not have been aware, but there has been some chatter this week about Lincoln Riley and the North Texas head coach opening. There was a lot about it that, frankly, didn’t make a ton of sense for any number of reasons, but for the sake of due diligence I reached out to a source that would have a pretty good idea as to who North Texas may be looking at.
My source shared some of the names currently under consideration and those names were: Major Applewhite (Houston OC), Kendall Briles (Baylor OC) & Sonny Cumbie (TCU OC). My source had not heard Riley’s name as one of those being discussed for the job, but also spoke with a staffer over at FootballScoop.com and was told they will be looking into the matter this weekend and hope to have an update next week. So keep an eye out for that. – (Super K)
– Parrish Cobb: I have been able to confirm that OU 2016 commit Parrish Cobb did recently visit TCU. I am told Cobb is being recruited by TCU as a safety, while the Sooners prefer Cobb at corner. No word at this point on whether he has a preference or to what degree, if at all, he is interested in TCU. – (Super K)
– Brandon Stephens: 2016 Stanford RB commit Brandon Stephens (Plano, TX) has flirted with the idea of visiting OU ever since his offer, and it sounds as though that visit will indeed happen. Stephens tells told TFB that he is planning to be in Norman for the weekend of the TCU game. – (Alex King)
– Shemar Coleman | Running Backs: If you’ve already checked out TFB’s visitor list for this weekend, you know the Sooners are expected to host a very talented and very under-the-radar running back by the name of Shemar Coleman.
Coleman is teammates with OU commit Robert Barnes and Texas commit Obi Eboh at Southlake Carroll, both of whom are also expected to be in Norman weekend. In talking to people around Southlake, I’ve been told that Coleman has been a big reason for Carroll’s offensive success this year. Coleman is a smaller, explosive back who fits the type of zone running scheme and philosophy the Sooners are currently running. Coleman has gone under the radar thus far largely due to the fact he didn’t play his junior year. He transferred to Carroll from another program and therefore was not permitted to play last season.
Coleman is a name to watch but, OU is very much in the mix with a number of other running backs at the moment as well. So I don’t expect an offer to go out immediately, unless they’re looking to take two RBs and feel Coleman is a good fit.
And speaking of those other targets, now seems as good a time as any to check in and see where things currently stand:
Devwah Whaley – A number of people believe Whaley is currently a silent commit to Georgia (a source told us that as well a while back). Whether that’s true or not, it is widely accepted that UGA leads. However, we’ve always been under the impression that outside of the Bulldogs, OU was a favorite for Whaley. And with all the turmoil surrounding the Georgia program right now and possible staff shakeups, OU may be able to get right back in the thick of things with Whaley. It is also worth noting that Whaley still has a visit to Norman scheduled, at least for now, for the TCU game.
Trevor Speights – Visited OU recently and told us that the trip couldn’t have gone better. Assuming nothing changes with Whaley, Speights figures to be the name at the top of OU’s board.
Brandon Stephens – As mentioned above, Stephens is planning to visit for the TCU game.
Abdul Adams – Long-time OU offer still committed to Michigan State, although there has been some talk about a potential future visit. – (Super K & Brandon)
– UPDATE (Fri., 2:45 pm): So this is certainly interesting. While our source, as referenced above, had not heard Lincoln Riley’s name in connection with the HC opening at North Texas, John Henry of the Star-Telegram is reporting that Riley interviewed for the job earlier this week.
If we are operating under the assumption that report is accurate, then there are a couple natural questions that come to mind. (1) Was it simply an interview on Riley’s part for the experience of doing so in preparation for a seemingly inevitable HC gig in the (near?) future, or (2) is there possibly genuine interest — even for a job many might believe he could do much better than a year or two from now — on Riley’s part?
I guess for now we’ll just have to wait to find out.
– UPDATE (Fri., 3:34 pm): Offered without comment.

– UPDATE (Fri., 5:41 pm): Well, that was addressed rather quickly.
Statement from OU offensive coordinator @LincolnRiley. #Sooners pic.twitter.com/voOYyCogEP

It is interesting the almost complete 180 OU has taken in addressing things like this (or, for example, TFB reporting) publicly which something they almost never did (if memory serves) prior to this year.
Regardless, it would appear as though OU fans can now breathe a sigh of relief.
– UPDATE (Sat., 4:52 pm): Pretty damn cool. (If you need reference re: McKinney, Brandon had a really nice story on him earlier this week.)
Marshall McKinney is a guest w/ @OU_Football today. Battling spinal cancer. Story here: https://t.co/IOXdWTeiU6 pic.twitter.com/kUeuK1s9i3

– UPDATE (Sun., 1:08 pm): Another OL target off the board, although this one felt like it had probably been coming for a while.
Committed to Texas A&M! Gig'em 👍😉

Whats to slow?
He posted first
Dam im slow long week i shall edit thanks sooner
It has been a long week, but thank God it’s Friday
Indeed sir cheers
I asked K, but I will ask you also. Is there a visitor list for the weekend?
It was posted yesterday Andrew not sure which post
I appreciate it.
It’s on the main page on the right.
Thanks!
Went up yesterday: https://thefootballbrainiacs.com/ou-oklahoma-sooners-football-recruiting-iowa-state-visitor-list
Thanks for the work! Going to be a wild finish to the season on and off the field.
I don’t think any of the candidates mentioned would take the UNT job. Perhaps Applewhite since he’s been an OC for a while now. The other names can hold out for a better gig.
I kind of agree with you there. BUT, if any takes the job and succeeds, then they are guaranteed to get a better gig!
UNT is going to pay their new coach VERY well. My dad’s best friend is a major booster for the Mean Green and he has said they are willing to go up to 2 million, if they find the right guy. However, the program is in shambles at the moment and I seriously doubt any of the guys listed would risk their career for that job.
The names listed just don’t seem to fit the job, as it stands.
UNT should be looking at a coach at a lower division that has had some success.
Right, this is not a “destination” job.
I think UNT should go after the “Stitt happens” coach over at Montana.
Thats whats up. I, now, agree. Best value, best option.
LOL!
I had the same thought earlier, but didn’t express it because this is his first year at Montana.
Oh yeah, it is his first year there. I think an FBS head coaching gig might make him think long and hard on an offer though.
Thanks for info Sam. Issue is going to be whether they’ll give the HC the money to pay some decent coaches.
Totally off topic, but is there a visitors list for this weekend?
Charlie Weis is probably available! LMAO!
Sooners just Taking care of business….and working overtime.https://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=AjggywL_3w1S6oeJeCdMB82bvZx4?fr=yfp-t-901-s&toggle=1&fp=1&cop=mss&ei=UTF-8&p=bto%20taking%20care%20of%20business

Iowa State can beat us.. We need to dominate early on both sides of the line of scrimmage. Set a tone, be physical and it would be really nice if we could get other WRs involved in the passing game. I have no problem with Shepard, Neal and Westbrook but other “WRs” must get involved as we head into basically a 4 game playoff. It will be interesting to see how ISU attacks our defense.. I think they will test our CBs deep a lot which will be what we will probably see the rest of the season so hopefully JT, DA, ZS and Will Johnson are ready..
Jordan Thomas seems to LOVE when QBs try to throw deep routes on him. That’s pass break up central for JT.
Only if they under throw it or throw it late. If it’s on time some of those he gets beat. I’m a fan of Thomas but he needs to stay with them instead of catching up.
You need to add to your profile, also grammer police.
Not necessarily defending Boom, but I’ve read jb’s post about fifteen times and I still can’t figure out parts of it. Maybe it’s me, sometimes my ADD starts arguing with my OCD and I can’t hear for the clutter.
I know just funnin with boom.
I got your back as I knew what you be doin.
Policing the police isn’t an easy endeavor.
I will leave it to the pros from now on.
I can’t do much of that grammar business. It was NOT my forte in school.
For me also
*For me, also.*

Your kinda quiet ET.No words of wisdom today?
Word of the day: perspicacity.
Keeness or dam im a smart dude
Now you’ve misspelled persnickety.
Do I have to make a sentence with it? : )
Two paragraphs.
Oh crap, you’re tuff.
One compound one –
EasTex is likely fastidious about his
perceptiveness, but that’s just about persnickety about his perspicacity.
That sounds down right muliebrous. 🙂
EasTex – Nothing feminine about you (me either). Nice work – don’t hear muliebrity tossed around much. I should have brought that up regarding the poster, Ms. Dale.
LOL!
At least two of us would have gotten it.
That sounds down right muliebrous. 🙂
Thats why my hair fell out
That word has nothing to do with a Brazilian wax job. :-0
My perspicuity is exceeded only by my perspicacity. 🙂
“You’re” Heh,
That’s the only time I’ve ever pointed to any grammer. I stay out of it but that was very hard to try to read.
He would be hard to read even if he did have a cogent thought, could spell and use punctuation.
ROFLMAO
Me also.
wHATTTTTTTTTTTTT—————
*could spell,*
tHIS the way to end my day at work lmfao
*and*
No comma needed.
Maybe in Latvania.
Lol. Me, too, I guess.
Ya know in jest funin wich ya
All I’m saying is that I don’t believe he’s given up a big play this season (yet). I’ll take a corner that has great recovery speed too.
All I’m saying is that I don’t believe he’s given up a big play this season (yet). I’ll take a corner that has great recovery speed too.
Totally disagree with you all week long people on this site have been saying this no way we will win 45 to 14 just relax you can go to the bank on this.
do you ever read your comments before you post? go back and read your post and see if it makes any sense. also, didn’t you say you were an alumni of OU? If so, hmm.
I have been consistently saying all week we will win this game big please tell me where I have contradictive this I have said 45 to 14 all week.I have even said I am so confident of this prediction that I have said we should start getting ready for Baylor.
Made me laugh; thank you.
In the words of John Madden,i get it now i get it
Good times on a Friday afternoon. Sittin’ here chuckling.
John Madden – He’s a really good player but Brett Farve is well, Brett Farve. Brett Farve the kinda guys who just loves football. Brett Farve will head butt his OL, I mean Brett Farve is a QB’s QB. Brett Farve………
lmao good one Boom
I remember him saying that
He said it every telecast. That’s why I love Madden and miss him. They would be talking about a player and for no reason Madden would go off on his bro crush with Farve. It was art in it’s finest form.
Cankles explanations!

lol
Got me rolling pretty good now.
Don’t get me started, I’m trying to remain nice. I do have to admit, I cracked up when I read it the first time. After the third time it was even funnier.
Bad grammar doesn’t get me as bad as run-on sentences. They just kill me. Can’t stand them.
Laughing hysterically at this!!!!
oh boy.
His comments are usually juvenile and senseless. They are painful to read because of the horrific use of run-on sentences and blatant lack of basic grammar usage, spelling and mechanics. As a retired English teacher, his posts leave me itching for my red correction marker! Lol. I don’t think he reads them himself.
I’ve developed migraines from reading his incessant babble.
simple – AMEN to that!
They are so bad they usually leave me laughing.
I was physics & math major who hated English class and his posts make my head spin. Run-on sentences just kill me. Periods are free of charge on this website. Just ask Stephen Dale. Use them!
rph loves ’em.
ROTFLMAO
What grates on my nerves is how more and more people can’t distinguish between a preposition and a verb, i.e., “I should of watched the game…”
Like fingernails on a chalk board…someone SHOULD’VE taught them English.
perhaps you should try relaxing……head to the beach and come back next week to worry about bu
I hope you are right.
Only if we come out/play like we did against the shorthorns. A lot of Wrs are already involved. Hit the open man! Open man catch ball score.
Involved yes, but only the 3 make plays. I love the blocking but still need a deep threat with one of the big guys.
If Tramonda Moore sticks with his plans to be in Norman this Saturday, that says a lot to me about how good the Sooners chances are with him. If he’d rather be in Norman to see the Sooners play Iowa St than in Stillwater to see a much better matchup, then I’m liking our chances more and more each day.
I bet it’s pretty much a given he will be at bedlam.
He is a giant of a man and could be a memorable Sooner.
https://twitter.com/_TMOE55/status/662640501980549120
The only question about him is not his athletic ability but whether he has what it takes to make it academically he is a marginal student but if he can make it with the new NCAA academic standards he would be a great one.
it’s odd that that is the sentence you chose to put together to question someone’s academic abilities.
Oklahoma Coordinator Position > North Texas Head Coach Position
EDIT: I say this with the caveat that your end game in either position is to end up with a destination type head coaching job, a goal I feel would be more attainable from a coordinator position at Oklahoma.
Sans Heupel, Stoops has a excellent track record of putting OCs (pirate, fat man, Sumlin and Wilson) in much better DV1 Head Coach positions, so Riley to UNT wouldn’t make sense… but then again no one thought we’d lose Monty to GB so soon
Agreed. Stoops has built a nice recruiting tree in his own right. I don’t see a coordinator from a premier school going to NT.
Losing Monty to the NFL makes sense. Anyone going from a P5 conference OC to HC at a crapola program like unt is not only illogical, it’s a dumb career move
Chuck Long made a move (SDSU) that to me never made sense either. I guess you never know.
I’ll take a nice paycheck with benefits in San Diego anytime. Go 0-12 and let the sounds of bikini strings drown out my sobbing.
San Diego is a beautiful place for a family. But yeah, there’s the football team. Marshall Faulk last great.
And to top it all off, I think he got whacked before the end of his final season with only a game or two left on the schedule.
Out of six OC’s Stoops has had, four have gone to head P5 schools (Leach, Mangino, Sumlin, and Wilson) or a lower D1 school (Long). Only Heupel didn’t move up. UNT coaches have gone on to being assistants or back to the HS ranks. Should be an easy choice for someone who is viewed as an up and comer.
I never understood the whole Chuck Long thing. It never seemed like a good move for him to begin with. Is he still coaching in Norman?
OU HC(in waiting)LR > NT HCLR
What about Cale?
Id really hate to lose Cobb. Especially to the likes of TCU.
Major Applewhite (Houston OC), Kendall Briles (Baylor OC) & Sonny Cumbie (TCU OC): Can’t imagine any of these guys salivating over a North Texas job. Nor Lincoln Riley.
Yeah of the three I would think Kendall Briles has the most to gain in that he can prove it isn’t just because his dad is Art Briles and the “Baylor System” leading to his success but the other two will be sought out for way better jobs than North Texas not that Briles won’t as well. North Texas probably has a better shot at a Texas High School HC than they do any up and comers.
Kendall Briles actually, IMO, has the most to lose. He is HC-in-waiting at Baylor, most likely. The best way to blow that job would be to become a HC somewhere else and fail.
Well he should take it then lol
It might be better for him to cut his teeth somewhere else. Most times, heir apparent coaches have a hard time matching unfair expectations
The way we were running the ball earlier in the year (or NOT running the ball) probably left an impression on Whaley.
Hopefully, the way we’ve run it since the Texsa fiasco has also left an impression.
Thanks for all the info, Alex-Brandon-Super K.
I have seen some of the Southlake games this season and was wondering about their RB.
There are quite a few RBs that have had little notice. With the playoffs in Texas starting next weekend some of them will get noticed more.
There is one RB from my home town, Chavis Mills, that is basically a clone of Daniel Brooks in size, just a tick slower, but much stronger.
http://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/chavis-mills/mwkkxy16EeS00gAmVebEWg/videos.htm
His team mate, Cameron Haller(2017), is special and the fact that he isn’t be heavily recruited makes no sense at all. He has size (5’10” 200), speed(4.5), strength and more moves than a 2 year old on a sugar bomb.
http://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/cameron-haller/RtS-z696EeO00gAmVebEWg/videos.htm?videoid=efbe1b41-7c83-473a-b0a0-0e328da86647
Unconcerned about the coaching news. LR is young and I think he will wait on a better program to offer than North Texas. Kendall Briles was suspended for cheating as an assistant so good luck to whatever program is willing to take that risk. NT will be better off getting a HS or Div II coach. I don’t think these top notch assistants will be interested, especially with all the high profile job openings.
They trident the hs coach route and was a miserable fail.
Doesn’t mean they can land a big time coordinator. Every school wants the next Bear Bryant/Barry Switzer/ Tom Osborne but NT best shot at a quality guy is someone looking to move up to D1 or an unknown.
As always, thank you K, Brandon and JE for all of the work you guys put in. Without you all, I would be paying for inferior content (and my wife already has me on a budget)
Wouldn’t expect Stephens to back out of a Stanford commitment nor Whaley or Adams to be interested in leaving better perceived conferences to come to the Little 12-2 ; no, it most likely will be somebody TFB / Rivals / Scout has not mentioned previously and , most likely, a small, scatback type with some lateral quickness….would be nice to find another Quentin Griffin….
Damn do you ever have anything good to say about the sooner’s
of course I do…..picked the Sooners by 1-2 td’s to win …….OU is not totally responsible for the perception of the conference.
Win over who Iowa State by one to two touchdowns please we will win by 4 to 5 touchdowns and no we aren’t Little Sisters of the big 12 we are the Oklahoma Sooners.
you 2 in a discussion should be fun……
Got any popcorn?
Got Pepto?
No, let it go on. I would pay for this type of entertainment.
Who can translate the conversation for us? My head is spinning…
Here’s how it goes:
SD – “We suck, but we’re gonna win.”
JB – “We’re gonna win, but we suck.”
Nothing about the little 12-2?
It’s just their general theses.
*where going two when but we sock*
Larger scope – Stephanie Dale is upset that all the big boys have no reason to come to OU. Others think Stephie needs to tow her trailer to Mississippi. They rest of us just laugh.
LMAO!!!
That sounds like the crux of the biscuit. With apologies to Mr. Zappa.
Pssst…it’s the apostrophe.
I’ll make a note of that with my zircon encrusted tweezers.
“I told you we’d suck then what you might of missed is when I said win the bu defense will get pressure on the QB their receiver are for real.”
“No………..you said………we would of won…..besides in the little 12-2 doesn’t have the depth……..committee ain’t picking anyone from this conference…….”
That took a lot of effort. I’m impressed. Gold star for you, sir.
Nope. A monkey can do it. Look above. I had to verify the quotes with my sources. That’s what took so long.
Yeah but all those periods, man. How’s your ring finger?
Fatigued.
Alternate ice and heat, 2 Aleve, call me tomorrow.
I’ll check in with the resident nurse.
I have a friend who speaks seven languages. However, I don’t think she can translate that garbage.
LMAO! Good one, Sam.
Yep. We have some posters who can’t speak one.
Well, they speak more than one language. They just can’t keep them separate.
I know this kid who takes fresh feces out of his diaper and smears it on the wall. He draws with it and tries to spell words with it. When he’s done, he’s so proud of himself that he has to show everyone in the house. I’ll have him take a gander at their convo.
I’m crying. I mean it, literally.
Oh my…..

Have we tried the Yoda speak translators? There are several out there. Or maybe he is using a computer translator. Maybe his native language is Ferengi.
Right when I thought I was done, then comes Bob. Thanks, Bob!

As a young man I could get my face slapped in five different languages. That jibberish makes me want to slap him.

Got Visine for bleeding eyeballs?
If you could see my face. I’m cracking up. I can’t do my job I’m laughing so hard.
I haven’t laughed this much in a while. I have to admit, I needed this today.

Maybe they will leave soon and delete all of their posts.

A prolonged conversation between those two would take on a whole new dimension in 3-D.
Which would be quite the feat, considering how 1-dimensional both generally appear to be.
This is post of the month.
Yeah, we get it. OU is a teeny, tiny, itty bitty, little program on the prairie that no good player in their right mind would want to attend. Please keep those thoughts to yourself or better yet – express them on your favorite team’s board instead of OU’s. Thank you in advance.
Here sooner
I don’t know.. I think he adds comic relief to the site
Not me. There’s nothing remotely funny about him, nor is he entertaining to me.
For me, either. Nor is the grammatically challenged one.
I’ve made my last comment to the knucklehead. There’s no value.
I don’t know how he’s still on this site. I don’t know how he survived after he made a sexist and a derogative comment toward gender preference over a year ago.
How do we ever land a single good recruit, or win a single game? It’s a miracle.
What is Bob’s record against the SEC, btw?
5-4 as ou coach. above .500
small, scatback types…
Adrian Peterson
Demarco Murray
Keith Ford
Samaje Perine
Joe Mixon
…yeah, lets just settle for an unknown scatback this time.
Hey, right now we need a 3* scatback. Except for Brooks that rarely plays, all we have are a bunch of 4* and 5* RB that all are over 210. /s
Damn straight….Imagine what Roy Finch could have done in this O. Not that we don’t need our bigger boys, but man, a little back like that would fly in this offense.
Yeah, Perine and Mixon are nothing compared to ole Roy. Roy would have 800 yards against Kansas last year.
Olé Roy is what I buy at Walmart to feed my dog when I’m mad at him.
All guys who were little known and only recruited by OU and the B12-2/CUSA.
Get back in that kitchen.
It is facinating how you think conference is the only deciding factor in every recruits decision. You do realize that nearly the entire OU roster is made up of players that passed on the other the P5 conferences, right? And a large portion of them passed on the SEC, many from “SEC territory”?
You also realize the national perception is the B1G is terrible as a conference and the top tier teams have the easiest path in the regular season, right?
Or that the ACC is nearly as terrible and a one loss ACC team would proabably be passed over by a 1 loss Big XII team?
Let me stop you there, because you’re making too much sense.
You are just going to confuse him…..
He has a small mind, that one. That small mind has to fit in something as small as his peanuts head (you have to say peanuts head fast). Catch my drift?
It’s like his body is host to extraterrestrial brain. And the kicker is that it’s not a symbiotic relationship.
Once again….agenda noted.
Reads better if you imagine it coming from Will Ferrell’s Harry Caray.
Thanks guys. Much appreciated.

This movie was just released, filmed near my home town.

Looks scary
Some folks don’t believe in stuff like that. But I tell you what I do believe in: aliens and ghosts.
I’ve seen a few ghosts and know what they are.
They are real if you see one, because they are what you expect to see.
When I was about 7 years old the entire family was awaken by the light of the moon because it was so bright. Mind you, we were poor, so there weren’t any curtains. The windows were bare.
It was around midnight. We all gravitated to the front porch. There was a tin roof that overhung the porch. The entire house cast a sharp, well defined shadow: there was brilliant silver from the moon and the deepest black shadows I’ve ever seen.
Two of my brothers, who are younger than I am, chased each other around the house. There was an extension at the back of the house, which was screened in, where Mama had the washing machine. It was one of those with the electric, rolling ringers. There was a well about three feet in diameter and an LP gas tank in the back yard.
I’m chasing my brother, as he’s approaching the back of the house, he turns to face me. It was then that I saw something in an astronaut suit descending. I motioned for him to stop but he thought I was tricking him.
But the look on my face must have convinced him I wasn’t. As he was turning around, the thing ascended and disappeared just above the roof of the house. I believe it would have taken my brother.
This, I tell you, is no lie. I did not dream this. I saw it.

Waiting for Mique Juarez to commit
I was thinking about something related to OU FB in my head (which I spend 90% of my idle time doing), and I wanted to understand if it made sense only there, or even outside, so here goes.
I think ONE of the main adv. that Bay possesses is in bring in multiple bodies at receivers for different downs. I also notice that Coleman, or Cannon, will come in to the game, run a go or post route, then after the play return to the sideline, and then come back in again to do the same. This happens with virtually every team, but seems a lot more with Bay since they take prob the most deep shots of any team.
So, I was thinking, why don’t we do this with our DBs as well. Put our top guy (this should be Zack (if he plays) and JT on Coleman, Cannon, resp). If they run deep and take off, then we should rest our corresponding DB too. Because, this certainly adds to the adv. for the WR, since he is rested up and good to go again on a deep route while our DBs are short of breath and will eventually cause them to get beat deep.
Now, normally, this wouldn’t seem like a good idea, since we are playing our 2’s when our 1s are not on the field. But, this year, we have found some gems in Will and Dakota, and I will take PJ against Bay’s no 2’s too, which can mean that we can ideally execute this. What is it that doesn’t make sense in this plan?
I think this makes a lot of sense. Normally, this would go against what you want, however, it is fair to say that this Baylor O is not anything normal, and we have not had success against it in 3 years. Seems like a good thought anyway.
We need to focus on ISU. FOCUS…
Haha! Ok, I will keep this in the back of mind till tomorrow night 10:30 EDT!
Substituting like that would seem to go against MS’s MO over the years, wouldn’t it?
Knowing Briles, he would adjust to it.
He prob would, but the smaller the number of shots they hit downfield, the better our chances of coming up trumps.
Actually, I always thought our plan when we last visited Bay was on point, just that our offense was not. But, with the renewed depth at CB, I thought this as a possibility.
Our offense let us down the last two years.
Also, I like our corners, safeties and NB much better than last year.
That year (2013), AC was legit, and Kass was underrated but played well.
True, and we led by 11 points early in the game.
Last year we only had one good corner. I wish J. Wilson all the best life has to offer, but “Bless His Heart.”
Many thought our two safeties were not performing well, with Parker and Thomas there now we are solid.
Do you see Parker as the pivotal player on defense for us? I ask because he will be the safety help on deep balls for the corners. It seems like we might need him to favor Coleman’s side since he is their stud playmaker.
I don’t know enough about their coverages say. Based on what I have seen he is always in a good position, covers like a corner and flies up fast on short passes and runs.
Thomas has shown tremendous improvement.
Agreed. I really like our chances this year. After watching the KSU game last night, I think Mixon and Perine are going to do terrible, terrible things to that defense and the pass rush (2nd in the nation in sacks) are going to get after Stidham
I think the pivotal player is whoever gets stuck with man coverage on the weak side when Baylor has trips to the other side. They will try to dictate matchups and they are going to be trying to isolate any CB not named Jordan Thomas.
Agree. People have that nightmare of the short passes in front of Julian Wilson to start the 2nd half, and that most assuredly was horrific and has to be solved, burned into their brains but the inability for the offense to generate 1st downs and points consistently has been the real problem.
It would make sense except that we would have to be as deep at CB as they are at WR. We are not, sad to say.
Good thought. But I say hit their QB in the mouth as often as you can, when you can. Speed up the internal clock and their accuracy will diminish as the games goes on.
The problem is they simply don’t hold the ball very long. Even their deep passes, the QB typically gets rid of the ball pretty quick.
I love blitzing and hitting a QB as much as the next guy, but you have to pick your spots, and I don’t think you’ll ever get many non-coverage sacks against them. Stop the run. Don’t give up the big pass plays. And tackle. Make them beat themselves, and that is kind of what KSU did to them last night, except they couldn’t stop the big plays often enough.
KSU got to the QB a few times. I just watched the first half though.
This is MS MO. Tackle in space limit YAC, make them drive the length of the field to score. The problem is that they’ll dink and dunk happily or just toss it to a wr lined up close to the sideline. Must have a pick six on those type passes or a tackle for loss. Are you focused on ISU?
I think our DBs cover well enough to take care of the short routes. The real impact will come later in the game.
i think ms and bs have put in a fair amount of time thinking about what they have, what bu has, and what would be the best way to slow bu down. we’ll see what they come up with

Aaaaaand cut! Enjoyed the repartee, but it’s go time.
Where are you going?
OU will have to fight off aTm for Whaley
They are down. Never really got up.
LOL!
The landing spot for former 5 star Sooner RBs.

I believe he means to the Visitor List.
Yeah, that’s what I meant, too.

Gahhhh, I just accepted a new job. I can’t wait for the game to occupy my mind.
I’m about to get a layoff notice, so yes, watching the game will be good for my soul regardless of the outcome.
Super K, how do you see our secondary coverage against BU shaking out? Would Parker be the main man to assist in Coleman coverage?
I think, Striker, Bond, Tapper, Dimon, and Walker are going to be key to stopping Baylors passing attack
No doubt they can help immensely. And I have good faith that they will especially in 2nd half when BU’s Oline starts to wear down and we rotate in fresh DL’s.
And a nice dose of 50+ total carries for Perine, Mixon, Brooks, & Ross would help too 🙂
That would be nice. But I still wonder how we are going to defend in the secondary? Is Parker the key? Curious minds would like to know.
Parker is always the key to me.
Keep in mind that our secondary kept Texas Tech in check better than any team they have faced so far (and they have played all the top teams now). Our pass rush is a huge part of that but our secondary played well in their own right (even without Sanchez). They controlled Jakeem Grant and he is no slouch.
Yep, Coleman is a beast though. And they will do a lot to get him isolated on Austin
If they do, I have faith in Austin. Even more than I do in Sanchez. He learned last week what happens when you gamble and don’t get the ball.
The guy I’m worried about is A. Thomas and their ability to isolate him in one-on-one coverage..
I really like Q as well..talk about disrupting the pocket in the middle. All three of our NTs have done a good job overall

would be a big loss
Might be a chance to build an offense around the talent on campus, instead of forcing the talent on campus into a system.
That’s asinine. There is way more talent at OU regardless of system. If he leaves it has nothing to do with the offense and everything to do with career opportunity.
Yes, yes, it has been a miserable failure hasn’t It?
You related to SD and Babcock?
I would be shocked to see LR move on after one year at OU. Especially to a school like North Texas.
I’d be really stunned if he took that job, but frankly I stunned he even talked to them.
I stunned too.
Never hurts to talk to them. Gets him familiar with the questions he’ll be asked and let’s other schools know that he is in the market.
When $$$ talks you listen.
They cannot pay more than OU.
Lol okay, I guess you might want to look that up. He makes half a mill as an OC at OU. He would make $750k (or higher) as a head coach at UNT.
Me stunned three …
Gotta say, going from HC at ECU to OC position at OU, taking a HC job at NTSU certainly seems like a step backwards.
He wasn’t HC at ECU he was OC.
Right, my bad…still..
No, I agree, it doesn’t make a lot of sense. Unless they are really prepared to open up the pocketbook, not just for him but for assistants and facilities.
That has to be the reason it would seem. Depending on how we finish this season, maybe OU finds some extra cash for Riley?
Well if the offense can score 60+ from here on out, he’ll damn sure get a raise, you can bank on that..
I would have gone through with the interview.
Absolutely doesn’t hurt to go in and listen to what they have to say.
IMO If he is patient for two years. He could have his choosing on a P5 team with great support.
True. As Bob says, never hurts to listen to what they have to say and go through the process.
I’m betting we could offer more $ just to be our OC
Could they? Sure.
Would they? Not likely.
OU has shown zero inclination they’d be willing to put near or over seven figures for an assistant.
Admittedly they haven’t had one in some time that was in high enough demand to realistically justify that kind of salary, but even if they had/do I’d still be surprised if they paid that much for an assistant coach.
If we made the final 4 or even win 3 of the 4 games left. It would be worth every penny.
OU Coaching carousel talk already? We haven’t even started November football yet. Say it ain’t so.
NoTS throwing names around so they look more attractive to someone they Can get – old trick , except completely ludicrous in this case .. Way overplayed
They’re just setting it up to introduce Mack Brown.
lol 🙂
please don’t leave! Lincoln !!!
…
Cale….learn fast grasshopper.
Mark Mangino may land on his feet. I think Stoops knows how to handle him…
Kentucky have an opening?
this always comes up when mangino is out of a job, but bs will NEVER hire mangino. NEVER. people can forget this. it will NEVER happen. if you only knew. bs will never say anything b/c he’s just not that way, but if he was thinking about it (which he isn’t), i don’t think castiglione or boren would flat say no to bs, but they would question him. but no, they are all on the same page about mangino. think about it: ku didn’t fire mangino b/c he won.
Would make ZERO sense for Riley to leave a Power 5 OC/play caller position in his first year to be the HC at UNT. ZERO sense. If he met with them it was just to explain how to get the Mean back in Mean Green. Kinda like Mike Stoops met with Les Miles last offseason to help get the Mad back in the Mad Hatter. There’s zero change this happens. cough cough

Alright….
not sure of the rule on this here but Sean Shaw Jr. 2018 WR from Jones OK is a 247 4* and #2 WR nationally
http://247sports.com/Player/Sean-Shaw-Jr–87154
I go to school at UNT and would love for Lincoln Riley to become the head coach… only after he helps win a national championship at OU.
I doubt he leaves….
If Lincoln Riley left for UNC after the season, which I doubt very much because that would be kind of dumb. But if he did, Kevin Wilson may not last past this year at Indiana. We could always get him back
No thanks. No repeats. We all had issues with K. Wilson too (yes I’m aware his teams put up big numbers, but so did Heup’s).
Lincoln can’t leave this early, he still needs more quality wins under his resume. Thats just me.
not for the nt job, he doesn’t, imo. I’d stay around and look to get a good job at a good school. going to nt will hurt his chances later on, then he’ll probably get fired there soon (they will have a hard time winning with the lack of commitment to football and disarray at the university itself) and then he could be relegated to being an assistant the rest of his life. stay put, and if ou does well (which they should the next couple of years) he could have a chance to go to a big-time program.
The 3 things I came away with last night…
1. Stidham is accurate and throws a good deep ball
2. Baylors defense is porous
3. Coleman is scary SCARY good
No big surprises with any of these I know. I think if we can limit the big plays we have a real good shot at beating them for the simple fact that our defense is much better than theirs.
the defense will need to blitz to keep Stidham guessing and the Sooner offense is going to have to move the ball, score points, and force Baylor to become as one dimensional as possible…..KST tried but didn’t have the athletes.
Yeah and play tight on Coleman so our D line can’t hit Steadman.
I like the video. It’s clever.
Would be super, super smart on Riley’s part to interview for job, even if there is no real interest. He gains extremely valuable experience from this for his future. Not only does he get the interview experience, but he learns what programs are after in terms of a HC. This will no doubt help him in the long run. And I’m talking just the interview here, if he actually left for this gig, I’d think it a mistake, and would hurt him more than help. But the interview, its a no-brainer, he could always turn down the job if offered.
I’d rather he focus every single minute on how t beat baylor.
Got to beat ISU first. No looking ahead. 🙂
Muted it after 15 seconds and watched the highlights. Much better that way.
Yea I got to like 30 sec.. didn’t like it so much.
I honestly believe we can beat Baylor; in fact I think if we can find ways to get to the young qb we could give them a thrashing – as opposed to letting him throw a bomb in the first few plays .. meanwhile back at the ranch ,, Beat ISU and don’t let up !
Not jumping on any Heisman hype stuff… that’s the worst part of the award to me.
Prefer the humble approach.

Losing LR this soon would be a swift kick to the nuts.
Yep. Recruiting, offensive continuity, attention on upcoming games (see KSU Big XII championship game).
Oh well. I choose to not believe that he will leave and will not speak of this again until after the OsU game.
It would be pretty fun to interview for a job that even if you are offered will not take.
I’m actually quite surprised he even interviewed for that job. He just got this job.

Good news. That’s that and I’m relieved to see it.

I get the feeling that only recently has OU embraced this social media aspect of promoting it’s program.. & that’s why they’ve started addressing such things so directly & swiftly..
Mayfield heisman song….um, er, well…awkward.
Yeah, you can say it. It was weak. Lol
Dude put in a lot of work on it, I’ll give him that. Now some boosters need to start working on a Heisman push anyway…
It would be nice if Tramonda Moore would pull the trigger this weekend.
I really believe he likes us a lot but since the HC at John Marshall is a ex-cowpoke and probably in his ear trying to get him to go to that school up north. I think the more he comes on unofficials the better chance we have too.
Relief has been sighed.
I don’t necessarily believe that Riley isn’t looking around. I do however think he’s not trying to land the north Texas job. I dont really care for the hc in waiting but I do think he would have a good opportunity to land the job at ou when stoops is indeed gone, he wouldn’t have to stick around and be the oc in order to be of interest.
zach, you like to dig around in the weeds at times…….here’s an article on all the coaching speculation in cfb……
….http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2015/10/16/9544205/ncaa-football-coaching-rumors-jobs-candidates-carousel-2015
coaching change humor……..”October 29: State of the U writes that Alabama OC Lane Kiffin is perfect for Miami, because the Hurricanes need to be jerks again. You know in your heart this is true.”
I think a stout Miami would shuffle things around a bit in the south and probably be good for CFB, but I’m content with watching that program circle the drain for the rest of my days.
Circling the drain, yes, but like much like OSU, they’re the turd that won’t flush.
Hell are you kidding I lived in Miami since the 70’s.I saw those Miami team’s went to I lot of Miami games including the 1986 Miami,Oklahoma game you don’t want to awakened a sleeping giant bite your tongue.
bama/lsu weekend…….
That’s in bad taste, even for Bama.
LSU fans had a Tornado banner talking the same type of trash. Pretty classless, but not surprised.
This is off topic but the Men’s team is playing an exhibition tonight and they lead in the 2nd half 67-42 with under 16:00 left to play. You can go back to your regular scheduled football stories.
I can’t help but think that these kind of rumors are sent out to impact recruiting. If there’s no merit or truth to it, then what else could it be but to try and influence a recruit?
That BMP song was kinda….well, just weird.
I think someone put a few dozen words too may in there for the vocalist to fit in!
Very, um, uncomfortable.

Jimmy Jack Porksdale, the driver and transporter of the uncovered Bob Stoops statue, is again in the news as he calls local media outlets, informing them that Lincoln Riley interviewed for the North Texas position. Jimmy Jack, please go back to Stoolwater. 🙂
He interviewed at North Texas? Why? To cut his teeth by losing every game 60-7? C’mon LR, at least have a little ambition here will ya? Look at BS track record, make some noise here and move up not down.
Agree I don’t understand why he would seek that job in the first place.
Strictly for HC interview experience… Has to be. LR sticks around a while and does well, then Hell, he could possibly be the next HC where he is at currently.
Phew – need Lincoln around !

Since we start late…
Boomer! What an awesome back door cover by Temple with the late pick 6!
Oklahoma’s week-to-week message during the “November to Remember”:
IOWA STATE: “Nothing personal, just business”
BAYLOR: “This is OUr league”
TCU: “What Katy Perry Curse?”
Okie-Lite: “Sorry little bro, no more gimmes”
Folks, this is not what we need but KU is going to be texsa today.
UT easily.
Not happening this year.
I’m torn on who should win between the frogs and pokes.
Well, I guess we have to root for TCU. There’s not much for them to gain, ranking wise, if they win.
If OU and the pokes are the deciding teams for the Big 12 championship for Bedlam, that would be awesome.
Good point and the Big XII remains in the spotlight.
I got home last night in time for the second half kick off. Fast game.
Looked at the write up this morning and Cameron Haller went total MAMBO last night, 19 carries-213yds-2TDs…7-11 passing for 103yds-1TD.
They face Lindale in the first round of the playoffs next Saturday afternoon at a stadium where they have never lost a game. Looking at the forums, Lindale is described as one of the best 5-5 teams in East Texas.
Good win. I missed the game last night. My wife went to work and I had the job of getting the kids around. I didn’t get home until 10pm last night.
How does a 5-5 team make the playoffs?
It’s based on their district record, does not include non district wins or losses. They finished third in their district, with losses of 1, 1 and 4 points.
It will be their strength versus Marshall’s strength, run defense vs run offense.
Marshall won 39-0, second shut out in the last two weeks.
This guy always has a lot of typos in his early recap.
http://www.marshallnewsmessenger.com/news/2015/nov/06/mavs-trample-wildcats-39-0/
Someone thought they were in the Sec?
I’m pulling for the Frogs. I want tcu to be ranked as highly as possible when they come to Norman.
But if the pokes win out Bedlam would be special.
That’s true. I think this entire month of November is going to be special. I’m calling it now, Ou runs the table and gets into the playoff. In the words of Toby Rowland it will be a “November to Remember”
Speaking of Toby, here is today’s scene setter.
http://www.soonersports.com/mediaPortal/player.dbml?ATCLID=210474291&SPSID=750323&SPID=127245&DB_LANG=C&DB_OEM_ID=31000&id=4642198
Good stuff right there.
It would but I think TCU has more nationwide credibility at this point than OSU. TCU wins, we beat TCU & we will jump up more than an undefeated OSU.
Not convinced of that. The pokes are ranked only a few clicks down from the frogs.
The way those two are playing defense, the first one to 70 wins.
Here is what’s bad for me. My good friend and next door neighbor, my doctor ( OSU graduate), and my barmaid are huge, huge OSU fans. If OSU wins I can’t drink, go to the doctor, or go next door to my neighbor. I may need a good shrink. Where’s Sooner Ray?
You may tell your doc & barmaid about the 2 for 1 ticket offer OSU is running. Kinda like pizza hut.
Yeah, I guess the PR person at OSU is a former pizza hut manager. I like pizza hut for a change but OSU just seems to push my p.o. button. lol
Doesn’t matter. Each will have a loss and still have to play OU. Root against who you hate or root against recruiting.
If the pokes win their games before bedlam they will be undefeated. Since OU can’t face all three after tonight as unbeatens, beating the lone unbeaten Big 12 team in the season finale and in Bedlam, that would leave a bright and indelible impression.
but I don’t see osu doing that. i think it looks better being the 1st team to pin losses on highly ranked bu and tcu
agree and national pundits will give OU more credibility for doing so.
I like that “rooting against recruiting”.
Like the song you posted “takin care of business” by BTO. One game at a time. OU holds their own destiny for the next 4 weeks. Sure hope my blood pressure can hold up..
imo, frogs. that way we are the first to pin a loss on both bu and tcu (hopefully!). then, osu should still be in top 25 when we beat them a/f only losing to bu and tcu. for me, it’s root for tcu today
I think Texsa wins easily, but it doesn’t matter if Texsa wins or loses anymore games. Texsa is recognized as one of the worst teams in the country and that won’t change no matter who they beat. (OK, surprising Baylor could shock the world but even if they did nobody would think Texsa was any good.)
The market has discounted Texsa to the point that we are buried by it and Texsa beating anyone is not going to change it at this point, unfortunately.
“The market has discounted Texsa to the point that we are buried by it and Texsa beating anyone is not going to change it at this point.”
Nice. Brutally honest, but nice. Well said.
I could see Texsa beating the bears.
I think there’s a good chance Baylor falls off the face of the earth if we beat them next week. Everyone left on their schedule wants to bring Baylor back down.
Did you see the anguish on the faces of Phil Bennett and Briles when the Cats were ripping the bear’s defense on the ground?
I smell fear!
I bet they play better next week. Just gotta hope mike finds a way to stop the running game that’s what gave ksu a chance
I don’t know, Zack. They might find it difficult to move the ball against better athletes. And that Baylor defense looks ineffective.
If I’m mike I may think about telling JT to cover Coleman wherever he lines up and I don’t know if Sanchez will be 100% but I would like to see Austin take kd cannon. According to Murdock that’s how Austin earned his offer was from making life hard for cannon at one of the ou camps.
I disagree, leave them in the positions they are in. Trying to be too cute like that and the bears will adjust and cause other problems.
do what we are best at–we have pretty good experience in our backfield and at LB
Does Riley open up his playbook and play fast against Baylor? Perhaps dial it down and keep Baylor’s offense off the field.
I’m doing what I know better, worrying about Baylor when we play Iowa State today.
If they play better next week it will be the first time this year.
Oakman is useless when they run at him, he chases better. The guy next to him at DT that is supposed to be so good, he left the lineup for quite a while in the 1st qtr with his bum ankle and wasn’t a factor in run defense.
I think our defense will do a good job of making the bears one dimensional.
I hope so. And it would be great if bond and striker can make that Durango guy look like the kjuandjo? guy from bama.
I think they will show new stuff that could hurt our D and they have 9 days instead of 7 to put new wrinkles/plays in, but I don’t think there’s a lot their D can do to improve for us. I think we have stuff we haven’t shown all year that will appear for them next week. However, since they haven’t played anyone this year, I bet they do too.
Ahhhh….yeah…..!!!! It’s game day people!!!!! BOOMER!!!!!!
SOONER!!!!!!
BTW, go PITT, beat those Fightin’ Frenchies!
I have not read a statement from LR that he did NOT interview for the position at North Texas. Either way, don’t know why he would be interested in that job, especially at this time in the season.
The Gators are in a fight.
Proud to be a Sooner!!
Thanks Brandon
