– Velus Jones: The Sooners have made a string of WR offers in recent days, one of which went to Saraland, Alabama wideout Velus Jones. The current USC commit was offered by OU this past Sunday, and TFB had a chance to speak with him shortly after.

Jones says that he is ‘for sure’ visiting OU, but the date of said visit ‘isn’t quite set.’ Jones also admitted that “the current situation at USC has caused me to open up my recruitment.” One school to be aware of is Florida and the previously planned visit to Gainesville that Jones will be making in a couple weeks. If he leaves there without committing, I think OU could have a real shot here. But getting Jones to Norman would obviously need to happen.

At this point it’s kind of just a waiting game. – (Brandon)

– Clifford Chattman: TFB reported a couple weeks back that the 2016 LSU commit was expected to be in Norman, but that visit never happened after Chattman had to cancel. “Bad weather held me up and I didn’t want to get stuck out there, but I am one hundred percent visiting OU this weekend.”

With there not expecting to be a ton of other recruits on campus this weekend, one would have to think the OU staff will be able to both roll out the red carpet and devote plenty of attention to Chattman while he’s in town. – (Brandon)

– Briston Guidry: As the Sooners continue to search for their first defensive lineman commit in this 2016 class, there was a new offer made on Tuesday to a commit of an SEC school.

Guidry hails from The Boot (Louisiana) and continues a trend on the part of this Oklahoma staff making a concerted effort to increase their presence in the talent rich state. – (TFB)

Probably a little slow on this post but I love reading these updates. Thanks TFB!

    BOOMERRRRRR

  • Mr. Jones says:

Is the offer to Guidry any indication Daniels? Or do the coaches just really like Guidry as well?

  • Stephen Dale says:

well , if Florida is involved with Velus, might as well forget about him and move on… that team has rebounded nicely with a new HC.

    • Lincoln Hawk says:

I love the fighters attitude in you Stevey!!

      • Stephen Dale says:

have to be realistic and save OU athletic funds as much as possible. Little 12-2 vs SEC…….Does Jones actually face a choice ?

        • Lincoln Hawk says:

Seemed to work out well with Striker. I love how the coaches aren’t afraid to go into SEC country and pluck out some studs. Why not go after the best if you want to be the best?

          • Stephen Dale says:

Is Striker actually SEC good ? opinions vary . he doesn’t fit the mold of SEC LB’s in terms of height / weight / coverage ability / LOS thumper…..kudos to ES for picking a school that would scheme for him….

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

My point was that it’s not incomprehensible that a stud from Florida would want to come to OU, therefore it’s not a waste of “OU athletic funds” to bring a kid in on an official visit. According to your logic, nobody in the Big 12 is SEC good or they would be in the SEC

          • Bob Edwards says:

Striker had five SEC offers, I guess that means he’s not SEC good because he didn’t have one from every school.

Don’t bother talking to Stephen. He has been shown time and time again his opinions on the SEC don’t match the facts. Most of the players we have recruited had SEC offers, but that fact doesn’t seem to register on him. He just spouts the same old anti-OU nonsense.

Let’s look at some out of the 2012 class:

            Striker – five SEC offers
            Shepherd – Alabama offer
            Neal – four SEC offers
            Darlington – three SEC offers
            Knight – two SEC offers
            Tapper – one SEC offer
            Grant – one SEC offer

That’s just the 2012 class that is still on the roster. Several others who have left had SEC offers too. If you look, most of our players have had SEC offers. We go into the SEC all the time and take players they have offered. But that doesn’t fit the anti-OU narrative.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

Yea I know, maybe its just the Haitian coffee in me today but I just didn’t want to sit back and let him trash OU players and staff again.

It is a waste of effort responding to his BS. It gets tiring after a while trying to reason with him, hence why I chose to Never bite on the trolling. Watch what happens when you call him out with your data… crickets

          • Stephen Dale says:

Bob : how many on OU’s roster had offers from EVERY SEC school ? and of those who did ( your list above ) which SEC offered those listed above ? my contention is —-unless you can prove me wrong—OU’s roster is not SEC good enough . OU recruits to a different scheme than SEC teams use and, as such, often take smaller, slower athletes which are good enough for OU’s schemes but not good enough to play for LSU / Alabama/ Florida / Auburn, aTm………what is undeniable is the number of NFL draftees coming from the SEC compared to the number from the Little 12-2……the difference is dramatic…..

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

Do you know that Tennessee is in the SEC and we beat them the past two years? I can even go all Bob Stoops on you and mention the Alabama game if needed……………..

          • Budbarrybob Budbarrybob says:

I will do it for you. Stoops is 3-0 v. Bama. The same media who rips Stoops for bringing up the win over Bama, over-hypes any sec team for doing the same. Ole Miss this year and you would think aTm won the NC in 2011 when they didn’t even make a bcs bowl, etc.

          • Boom says:

Final results for those SEC teams from the six teams in the first CFP poll last season?

No. 1 Mississippi State lost to Georgia Tech in the Orange Bowl, 49-34.
No.3 Auburn lost to Wisconsin in the Outback Bowl, 34-31.
No. 4 Ole Miss was boat-raced by TCU in the Peach Bowl, 42-3.
No. 6 Alabama was whipped by Ohio State in the Sugar Bowl, 42-35.

Those four teams from the SEC, the conference that allegedly plays better defense than any conference, allowed an average of 41.8 points per game in those bowl contests.

Sounds like those teams would be right at home in the Big 12, doesn’t it?

          • Birddawg says:

You’re right about the SEC having more draft picks.. they have more teams as well as depth.
            Since 2010…
            Alabama 37
            LSU 37
            OU 28
            Florida 27
            Georgia 27
            Baylor 17
            Texas 16
            Tennessee 16
            Auburn 12
            OSU 10
I don’t see anything unexpected… All the national champions are on top except Texsa sucks and corrupted auburn.
Also, OU roster is “SEC good”.
            Next time do your homework.

SEC Luncacy: Insanity of boasting about a conference as if it’s a real team. Rampant among those whose team can’t stand on its own. Media created sports fraud.

          • Soonerfan24 says:

Ask Cyrus Kouandjio if Striker is “SEC good.”

          • Birddawg says:

ES is a good ball player. He has proven he is SEC good.
As for his size, the schemes in the SEC are different. He would have been asked to play ILB/S.
Why does it matter what position he would play in the SEC/big 12 etc.. He is a good ball player that any team would want on their defense. You can’t say his skills wouldn’t be wanted by any SEC team.
            He’s 3-0 against them
Cryus kouandijo lost 1st round money because of that sugar bowl game.

        • Lincoln Hawk says:

Seemed to work out well with Striker. I love how the coaches aren’t afraid to go into SEC country and pluck out some studs. Why not go after the best if you want to be the best?

  • William Ryan says:

Love the the talent jm stockpiled at dline so nothing to worry about as far as dept is concerned, but it does seem odd to not have a dline commit yet..

    • Stephen Dale says:

you probably identified the reason OU doesn’t have a DL commit : lots of frosh /redshirt frosh / sophomore DL on campus…..

      • Lincoln Hawk says:

Then why do we have DB commits?

        • j l says:

only 1-2 guys play d line at a time, 4-5 db’s play at a time. Numbers, pure and simple.

          • Stephen Dale says:

            particularly against Texas………

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

He didn’t mention numbers, I was referring to his comment on young talent on campus

          • j l says:

basically all our DT’s are freshman and sophmores. We have multiple upperclassman db’s, those spots will be opening up. We could in theory, be set at dt for 2 years.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

We have 4 safeties and 5 corners that are sophomores or younger. What I’m trying to say is if you are good enough, you will play. You think Bob would hesitate to play the next Tommie Harris or Gerald McCoy because there are older guys?

          • Stephen Dale says:

absolutely agree… we are on the same page. playing time is always available for those who have the talent and maturity to handle a position, whether a true frosh or 5th yr sr.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

Hmmmm, maybe I just misunderstood your post regarding the reason no DL are committing then. My apologies if I did, but it read to me like kids don’t want to come here due to the youth of the DL, but that should be true at just about every position, even kicker and punter:)

          • Stephen Dale says:

you really didn’t misunderstand. I think the depth on campus at some positions makes it harder to recruit to those spots till the talent thins a bit.. I do agree with you, however, that depth should not be a factor if one has talent , confidence, and desire———-but it scares some to other schools. just the nature of people.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

But it shouldn’t scare them off the SEC schools because all of their players are SEC good right?

          • j l says:

SEC has a massive recruiting edge right now, kids dont mind sitting for 2 years at an SEC school, because they know the bright lights will be on them for the 2 years they do get to play.

These initial playoff rankings dont help the big 12’s case either. Why come play in a conference that gets 0 respect?

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

But it shouldn’t scare them off the SEC schools because all of their players are SEC good right?

          • j l says:

do you think anyone other than oliver or daniels will come in and play ahead of walker, overton, gallimore?

If im a 3 star DT, and i come this year, i probably wont see the field until im a sophmore/junior(aside from blowouts, spot duty)

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

Wasn’t Overton a 3 star? I’m not sure because I could care less what stars a guy has. He came in as a true freshman and got some good playing time, which should make others want to come here because they see if you work hard and learn then you can play.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

On top of that Bob just stated last week that he loves playing freshman. He loves to see them getting the game experience because it helps their development and he said it is almost impossible to keep kids around for 5 years now.

          • Stephen Dale says:

Bob Stoops makes a good point. guys do tend to bolt for the NFL these days.

          • j l says:

Overton and Gallimore were both 4 star, top 300 players.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

Overton is playing as a freshman so it’s possible. If you just aren’t good enough then that’s one thing, but if it’s just because of numbers it shouldn’t scare anybody off if they believe in themselves.

          • j l says:

True, overton came in really polished from being at jenks though. Thats why hes playing, and gallimore is redshirting.

I see what youre saying, but i could understand a mid tier kid not being real sure of playing time.

Kinda similar to the chandler decommit. He knew it would be a struggle to get on the field.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

            Agree 100%

          • Stephen Dale says:

lots of people like the Guidry kid currently committed to Arkansas but being pursued by OU….He is slightly smaller than Daniels // Oliver—-more along the lines of Southall…….some on another site think Guidry’s ‘motor’ separates him from the rest….who knows ?

          • hushnpa says:

            really liked watching Guidry because of the fun he appears to be having and the way he keeps going ;
By the way who are you and what have you done with the real Stephen Dale with all his baiting and such .. not that I miss him :0
besides we have lincoln hawk for all that 🙂

        • Stephen Dale says:

HS guys can visualize playing time in a secondary that has improved but needs more help . Also a shift in defensive alignments to a 3-3-5 would open more spots for DB’s to see the field……..

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

That’s not what you said, you said the reason was because of young guys on campus

          • Stephen Dale says:

            for the DL, yes.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

So you are saying we don’t have enough freshman/redshirt frosh/ and sophomores db’s?

          • Stephen Dale says:

not at all. playing time is available if HS guys can come in and beat out those on the depth chart. its called competition.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

SO you couldn’t do that on the DL?

          • Stephen Dale says:

sure…..depends on the athlete’s confidence in his own ability to win a spot……the kid from Jenks is a good example . he passed some already on the depth chart and is one of 10-11 frosh to see time….

          • Boom says:

Lincoln, DL and DB is different in the number of positions. DL has NT & DE. DBs have SS, FS, Nickel, CB. That is a different numbers game. Plus there are more kids who can play DB as compared to DL as they are a premium. Lot of big kids but there are few who have the talent to play big time D1.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

My point is basically if you are good enough, you will play. So his comment on not having DL commits because of young guys doesn’t sit well with me. Let’s go get the best guys and let them fight it out to get playing time.

          • Stephen Dale says:

no question about your last sentence……competition makes the team better.

          • Stephen Dale says:

no question about your last sentence……competition makes the team better.

          • Boom says:

No doubt and I agree with you. It may be a light year for DL due to the past 2 years. OU wants LBs, OT’s, & maybe an extra WR or RB. Like to have a TE along with certain DB targets.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

Yea I can see the coaches swing for the Home Run but not willing to settle for the single on the DL since they crushed it the last few years.

        • Jofield says:

There is no comparison between the depth we have amongst DBs versus the depth we have on the DL. D-Line is way deeper and more proven. Stephen Dale says plenty of things to take issue with. This was not one of them.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

I wasn’t comparing them in particular, only using them to illustrate the point that there are young guys at every position. He said that was THE reason we didn’t have a DL commitment. So using that logic we would probably never have any commitments because we take around 20 new guys every year.

          • Jofield says:

You were just looking for an argument.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

We were actually being civil in our back and forth. There was no name calling or anything, we just had different opinions and we each put out our stance. I think it was a healthy debate, if you want to say that I was looking for an argument then so be it. No argument here:)

  • WilliamJack says:

Anyone watch the 30 for 30 episode last night about the University of Colorado and Dan McCartney’s National Championship? The guy could surely coach and get his team to
“believe” they could win it all. A bitter-sweet tale. Back in the days of the Big 8 when they had to beat OU and Nebraska to win it all. Worth the watch.

  • Thegunnfather says:

If they want the best perceived teams in the playoffs and what you do on the field doesn’t really matter. Why don’t they hand the trophy out on national signing day!!!!!

    • Stephen Dale says:

Little 12-2 teams have to bolster their schedules as OU has done…playing D-2 directional texas or Louisiana teams as OOC doesn’t help against ND or Pac 12 OOC schedules. Yes, it is partly perception and a popularity contest. the Baylor’s / TCU’s / OSU’s have got to toughen their schedule if they want equality with other P5 teams at this time of year…and a bad loss often negates winning an OOC road game ( OU’s situation right now )…….

      • Finney56 says:

How would you explain the SEC’s OOC though? Those are just as weak as Baylor/TCU/OSU IMO

        • Daryl says:

Way more teams in conference and I would say the depth of the sec is better than Big 12 this year, partially because they have way more teams but still. SO their schedules are tougher because of their conference schedules.

I hate saying any of that.

          • Finney56 says:

I guess I just see it where Ole Miss (with 2 losses) could win the SEC West while Bama and LSU are seen as the best in the conference. I could never put a one loss team over an undefeated team like MSU who’s schedule is also backloaded

          • Daryl says:

It would be really interested to see if LSU remained undefeated to championship and lost a close game to ole miss what the committee would for the playoffs

          • Finney56 says:

Would be very interesting, but the committee/ ESecPN would find a way for an SEC team to be in there

          • Boom says:

Daryl, I’m going to play counterpoint.
Auburn, Miss St, Arky, ATM are not good teams from the west. Ole Miss is decent but not top 20. Mizzou, Tenn, UK, Georgia, Vandy, & So Carolina are not good at all. Trying to understand this “depth”. We have 4 teams who could go to the playoff out of 10 teams.
The SEC doesn’t want to play our style of football. Tell me one really good QB in the SEC that is comparable to about anyone in the Big 12.

          • Budbarrybob Budbarrybob says:

Way more teams does not equate to better. Bama will not play again @ Georgia until 2027! Tennessee plays at LSU about once a DECADE. Every year the SEC doesn’t play FIVE other conference teams. It’s another part of their marketing scam.

The same media who rips Stoops for bringing up the win over Bama in the Sugar Bowl, continues to over-hype ATM because of their win over Bama 3 years ago as if they recently won a NC. This is the sec marketing machine at it’s best.

ATM is 16-13 in conference play and we all know they were a total fail in the big12 (77-0 etc.) never winning a championship of any sort and challenging only once. Their history in the modern era is a joke. ATM’s 2 best seasons ended with wins in the Cotton (1985 & 2011), yet they had 2 losses in both.

          • Daryl says:

Alabama, LSU, Ole Miss, Florida, Miss. St., TAMU, are all ranked and Tenn. is still receiving votes and that doesn’t include Georgia. The Big 12 is OU, osu, baylor, and tcu. after that no one is any good. I am not sure that kst, taco tech, kansas, texas, wvu, or isu would be favored or could even beat Kentucky. That being said that is why I say having more teams helps, and it really helps when those extra teams are actually average. The ACC and Big 10 on the other hand have more teams but they are all teriible except for their top 2 teams. So having more teams does not help them. That is why I think we are at a disadvantage if we have a 1 loss team at the end.

I may be wrong but the bottom six teams of the big 12 are killing us in the respect category.

          • Budbarrybob Budbarrybob says:

Yet despite having more teams and the sec marketing machine behind them all, the Big12 will have as many or more teams ranked this week by the Committee. As for the unranked, Texas Tech beat Arkansas.

        • Stephen Dale says:

SEC can get away with sorry OOC’s due to the strength of the conference teams….SEC teams are simply more talented and highly respected than Little 12-2 teams——from top to bottom…….

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

The respect is based on the past. Not this year, and as such should have no bearing on 2015!

          • SoonerMGB56 says:

Sorry Stephan, but that’s a crock. At least the “simply more talented” statement.

There appear to be three quality teams (out of 14) in the SEC. The rest are middling to poor.

There appear to be four quality teams in the Big 12 (out of 10). The rest are middling to poor.

The SEC may be better, or it may not. E.g., TT v. Arky. Big 12 middling beats SEC middling.

Now the respect thing, I’ll give you. But the problem is, it’s misplaced. It’s hyperbole. It’s not based on anything tangible. See the SEC bowl record last year. See TCU v. Ole Miss last year.

That is what gets people riled. It’s B.S.

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

            Perfect answer to little Stevie.

          • SoonerSpock says:

Depending upon how you define more talented. While recognizing the talent in Power 5 college football and talent in the NFL are not identical but similar one can easily conclude that the SEC is more talented than the B12.

The 2015 NFL draft included 54 players from the SEC and only 25 players from the B12. It is obvious that there will be discrepancies from year to year as classes from year to year are not linear. However the B12 had the lowest number of draftees of any of the Power 5 conference and was 30% than the next lowest Power 5 conference.

In 2014 the SEC had 49 picks and the B12 16 picks that is 3 times as many picks. Over the last two years the B12 has had less than 40% of the number of draftees as has the SEC. In both years the ACC has had about 15% and 13% fewer draftees for second place followed by the Pac12, B1G and B12.

            http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000490656/article/sec-leads-all-conferences-with-54-players-taken-in-2015-draft

          • SoonerMGB56 says:

You can do all kinds of things with numbers. First you have to remember that the SEC has 40% more teams than the Big 12. This mitigates the numbers you throw out, quite a bit.

Secondly, one of the points Stephen made in his posts was that OU never has a chance to get any players that the SEC “wants”. If you look at the last five years, OU is top five in the number of players put into the NFL. So while OU trails Alabama, and LSU in this regard, it does not trail the rest of the SEC.

And thirdly, Stephen was also making the point that the SEC is vastly better than the Big 12, THIS YEAR. And to that, I call a big B.S.

The SEC has 43% of it’s teams ranked, versus 40% for the Big 12. And that’s just the biased perception/SEC love that is out there, based on past years. This year’s performance would suggest that the bias is unjustified. Mississippi State certainly shouldn’t be ranked. And A&M is shaky.

And how do you respond to the FACT, that Tech beat Arkansas at their place? One of the Big 12’s middling teams v. one of the might SEC’s.

Also, CLEARLY the Big 12 is the superior QB league. I can’t think of a single QB in the SEC that could start at any of the top four teams in the Big 12. And backups Stidham and J.W. Walsh could probably start at nearly any SEC team.

The Big 12 CLEARLY has superior receivers. And the RB’s are comparable. Perine, Mixon, Warren, Linwood and the Tech back could play at almost any SEC school.

So I stand by my assessments. The SEC is not all that much different than the Big 12, THIS YEAR, based on what trots out on the field. Only in the eyes of the biased humans on the CFP committee.

          • SoonerSpock says:

No question that the larger SEC should have more NFL draftees proportionally and 40% would be that number. However that does not significantly mitigate the SEC having 216% (54 vs 25) more 2015 draftees in 2015 and 306% (49 vs 16) more 2014 draftees. The difference is still massive.

I think it is mute to discuss individuals as you name a Perine and I could counter with a Henry at Alabama. Naturally if you go by position the brand of ball played in each conference dictate where the talent differential will reside. There definitely is more QB and WR talent in the B12 because of the style of play . Conversely there is much more OL, DL and LB talent in the SEC for the same reason. I tend to support Bob Stoops position on the differences between the SEC and the B12 and I think that difference is much narrower this year and who is the best at the top probably will not be determined until bowl season.

What cannot be denied is the SEC hype by ESPN and the media in general. Nor can the level of top talent in the SEC being much greater than the B12. Just as using NFL draftees will confirm that the ACC is producting close to as many draftees as is the SEC and likewise that the B12 is producing far fewer NFL draftees than any other Power 5 conference. Over the last two years those numbers are SEC 102, ACC 89, B1G 65, Pac12 56 and B12 41.

The Pac12 has produced 36.5% more combined draftees and have 20% more members so that differential is minimal. The ACC is 40% larger but has produced 217% more combined draftees. That is a significant differential. The B1G has 40% more members and generated 58.5% more combined draftees. A moderate differential that can, in part, be minimized by the limitation of using only two years of data.

However one can logically conclude that the SEC is producing the most talent and the B12 the least talent of the Power 5 conferences. Also with regard to the SEC the differential was even greater with the SEC having 63, ACC 30, Pac12 28, B12 22, Big East 21 and B1G 20.

          • SoonerMGB56 says:

You can go ahead with all you SEC love all you want. If your opinion is that the SEC is the greatest football conference known to man, this year, then you’re entitled to that opinion.

But that doesn’t change my opinion that what Stephen Dale said is patently false.

Here is what he said “SEC can get away with sorry OOC’s due to the strength of the conference teams….SEC teams are simply more talented and highly respected than Little 12-2 teams——from top to bottom……”

Tech beat Arky at Arky. That is really the only apples to apples comparison between the conferences, THIS YEAR. Past years are meaningless in terms of comparisons THIS YEAR.

Past draftees mean nothing to me when assessing the product THIS YEAR. (BTW, no response from you re OU comparing favorably to SEC in that regard). Stephen said “top to bottom” and that’s a crock.

There is no evidence that the SEC contenders are appreciably better than the Big 12, coming from play, on the field, THIS YEAR.

At the end of the day, that is what I’m disputing.

I’m also of the opinion, that past years should not matter to the CFP committee, when formulating their rankings. Though clearly they are considering that.

ESPN’s own FPI ranks the Big 12 narrowly behind the SEC. So do other computer models.

But it seems that you, and Stephen know better.

If you want to take sides with a troll like Stephen, who hangs around this board solely to take potshots at OU, that’s your prerogative.

          • Bob Bender says:

Records are inflated by feeding off the bottom of the conference and the weak non-conference opponents.

  • hemisooner says:

Hear anything on the freshmen that are redshirting?

    • Stephen Dale says:

not much. Hopefully the OL–Ford, Hearne, & Evans will develop thru the Spring. They are going to be needed.

    • Boom says:

The one I’m excited about the DE Roberts who reported last due to JUCO transcripts. Tons of talent so hope he is coming along.

      • hemisooner says:

Yeah, he got great reviews in fall practice. He plays Tapper’s position I believe. Very excited to see what an offseason will do for him.

      • Sooner4life says:

I believe he played at the end of the game last week. He looked good from what I could tell.

        • Boom says:

He did? I hope he’s red shirted.

          • EasTex says:

He has gotten mop up time in the last three games.

          • Boom says:

Okie dokie. I guess they are getting him ready for next year. I wasn’t to focused on the end of the game so guess I missed it. thanks bud.

          • EasTex says:

            Welcome.
I had to pull up the roster for all the different numbers showing up late in those games, that’s how I knew he was playing.
Being a huge Gallimore fan I didn’t expect him to red shirt this year, but with Que playing so well it doesn’t bother me one bit that Neville will be developing for next year.

          • Boom says:

After I watch a show on Gerald McCoy, I was pretty sure Gallimore would be a RS. McCoy talked about all the OL blocking schemes and how he wasn’t prepared and would’ve gotten killed. He was upset but said it was the best thing for him.

          • EasTex says:

I can’t wait until OU’s opponents get a look at Gallimore. Skill and strength development for such a gifted physical specimen will be awesome to watch.

          • Boom says:

No doubt. He and Q, how do you do. It will be fun cause both ILB’s will be back plus the DBs. Lot’s to be excited about for the near future.

          • EasTex says:

The 2015 recruiting class could prove to be exceptional.

          • hemisooner says:

Him and Q will be handful in a year or so. Thanks to coach Montgomery we have some young talent on the D line.

          • sooner44 says:

            Man I miss Monty

          • Clint Lenard says:

Funny, I felt that Gallimore was the closest thing to McCoy coming out of high school.

          • Fear The Magic says:

I hate blowing a talented kids redshirt unnecessarily however since Tap will be leaving and most of our other DEs are very young and have little if any game experience, Im alright with him getting some playing time in. It could pay big dividends next year.

          • EasTex says:

He has clearly earned the right to playing time in practice. He has seemed a little tentative in live action, which shouldn’t be a big surprise. Barring a disaster, he will see limited time this year, so I agree that burning his shirt seems a waste, but any time he gets this year will make him even more valuable next year.

          • Boom says:

If he has a breakout year in 16, most likely he wouldn’t stay for the following year. Makes sense.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

I would rather them play as a freshman, than leave as a RS Jr.

          • EasTex says:

Not an option with Roberts, he was a 2 for 2 juco.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

Yes, that is true. I was just generally speaking. But the JUCO boys are a different subject. Sometimes they are stop-gap depth, and sometimes they are talent that plays a lot. Ok, time for some more medicine. LOL

      • Stephen Dale says:

Roberts , if I remember correctly, played briefly against Kansas.

    • KJ1123 says:

Not 100% but I think Gabriel may move down to DT. He’s not as fluid or powerful of the edge and doesn’t have solid technique…yet. But he’s a big boy and pretty strong. Get him to play lower and I think he’s be a decent 3 tech guy.

  • hOUligan says:

Watching Briston Guidry run down on special teams and just chest guys…and he literally just throws people out of the way navigating through ‘the trash’. Came across this from our TFB Sept. 2014: seems Monty was on him back then –

“Guidry is a defensive lineman that is currently committed to Miss. State. However, in talking to him, we definitely get a sense that if OU were to get seriously involved he’d be very interested.”

He’s decommitted once, has had contact and an interest in OU for a while.

  • Zack says:

I’m curious how people feel about chattman…seems like lsu is willing to let him look around. The only tweener guys I like are guys who can play wr or corner, and corner or safety.
Safety/LB shouldn’t be a thing IMO. We’ve come a long way recruiting on the defense side of things.

    • Jofield says:

Striker was a Safety/LB tweener out of high school.

      • Zack says:

So were Alexander and Evans and all 3 have been productive but they came in while our recruiting was on the down turn. I agree with having athletic guys, I just feel like with this chattman guy, that lsu is slow playing him

    • Jofield says:

In an age where LB are asked to drop in to coverage more and more I see nothing wrong with a Safety/LB tweener as long as they are properly utilized.

    • Boom says:

I look at him as a 6’5 athlete who may grow into a position of need. A lot of HS kids play out of position to help their team but that’s not what they will play in college. As long as he’s a playmaker/gamer, that’s all I care about.

    • Scott says:

I hope we are still recruiting Lamar Jackson , that dude is a stud

    • Daryl says:

I have to agree with Jofield’s comments below, but to your point I do agree when it comes to ILB. If we are going to recruit a guy to play inside then lets look for a very athletic OLB and move them inside. At OLB I am good with recruiting Safety/LB type guys, especially in the Big 12.

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

Do we have a list of visitors for this weekend yet?

  • KJ1123 says:

Looks like Alvarez is out for Sat. Nila may play at LG and Dalton may go at RG. They’re still testing out some combinations though afaik.

    • Dustin says:

Trying to find a way not to play Farniok?

      • Boom says:

That’s what I’m reading into it.

      • Jerry Reid says:

Farniok sucks, he seems to always be on the ground

Velus has a serious top gear.

    • Katyboomer says:

Is film speed up? It looks like all the players are pretty fast. I was just wondering, if not speed up, he is one fast dude.

      • brainpimp says:

Even if it is, he is faster than all the others.

      • Clint Lenard says:

I watched through almost 2 minutes and don’t see the film being sped up anywhere. Dude just looks really fast on the field, but other players are running normal.

        • Katyboomer says:

Then he is one fast guy. I hope we get him, need that kind of speed on the other end of our QB’s passes.

          • Stephen Dale says:

that extra gear is why the SEC schools will not let him escape again…Alabama, Auburn, or Florida will be tough to beat .

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Those three teams have far less QB talent than we do. Bahahaha.

          • Boomer4life says:

            Why are you here?

          • james babcock says:

Why do you even ask such a question look who you are talking to.

          • EasTex says:

            Derp.

          • Kevin Brown says:

This Stephen Dale guy sounds like a moron. OU is in the top 10 in current NFL players some of which are the highest or some of the highest paid at their positions. This list includes but not limited to pro bowl LT and RTs. LT top 3 highest paid. Top 3 paid DT. Pro bowler. MVP running and another RB who was offensive player of the year. Etc. A list in which OU is ahead of several SEC teams. Fail.

          • L'Carpetron Dookmarriot says:

Stephen has a genetic condition wherein he was born without a prefrontal cortex. He also has a personality disorder wherein he likes to destroy the things he loves (i.e., he allegedly loves OU and the Steelers).

Actually he is one of the sharpest, most knowledgeable OU fans on this site. You’ll have to sit back and concentrate on what he is saying before you will be able to fully appreciate his understanding of all things OU and this conference…..50 + yrs of experience around the university can only be appreciated if you’ve lived through the eras of Bud , Gomer, Jim, Chuck, Barry, Gary, John, Smelly, and Bob…..

          • EasTex says:

You aren’t the only one to have experienced OU football over that course of time.
Your gloomy disposition and your lack of self-awareness give your perspective an ugly, off-putting tint.

          • EasTex says:

Possibly, but I have never known what it is like to have such a feature.
I generally ignore him and don’t reply or engage, but this self-adoring post after all the crap he has posted in the past was just too much.

  • james babcock says:

My question I don’t know if it has been addressed is all sudden why are we offering so many receivers after we where told they where just about done recruiting receivers.Does this mean we are going to lose some receivers that are currently on the roster that the coaches didn’t expect to lose.

    • SoonerinLondon says:

I’m thinking there may be some defections on the current team.

I have no inside information. I’m just speculating.

Regardless, it seems pretty clear that we haven’t seen the “next” Shep, Broyles or Stills yet. Shep was starting to make plays before Broyles left. It would be great to have someone already stepping up.

          • james babcock says:

I really like Duhon Green upside also think next year De De Westbrook could have breakout years also A.D Miller is a kid you can’t overlook.

People who feel slighted or not getting the playing time they think they deserve? Candidates? Smallwood, Green, Miller, Mead? I wish they would be patient whoever it is. Sheps/Neal’s positions will be available.

        • Zack says:

Green and miller should be red shirting I would not have them on this list. They should be thankful they are playing this year.

        • james babcock says:
