Open Post | Tuesday, Oct. 27th (UPDATE 8:47 pm)

* Ashton Julious: As you’re almost assuredly aware by now, the Sooners landed a big commitment yesterday in the form of massive 2016 offensive lineman Ashton Julious. I caught up with the JUCO prospect shortly after he made the announcement, at which point Julious said he feels like he fits what OU is doing and the campus atmosphere were the main reasons behind his commitment.

He went on to add, “the coaches were excited and Coach B just said he is excited to have me on campus and to be ready to work.” Julious also admitted he is glad to get his recruitment over with so he can concentrate on his season. This was an important commitment for the Sooners, when you consider Julious is 6’6” 341-pounds and moves well for a man that large. He knows how to use leverage for someone his size and has heavy hands with a nasty punch in pass blocking.

As you would expect for a two-for-two junior college player, the chance to compete for a starting spot next year was also a factor in this decision. And, in my opinion, Julious should have a legitimate chance to do so. Worst case scenario he adds depth and the ability to potentially play multiple positions along the line. All things considered, it’s a really good pick up for Coach Bedenbaugh and the Sooners. – (Brandon)

* Blake Berryhill: OU hosted an up-and-coming OK Preps prospect this past weekend in 2016 LB Blake Berryhill. The Tuttle (OK) product missed last season while focusing on wrestling, but made the decision to play football this his senior season. At 6’3″ 225-pounds you can see on film why there would be interest in Berryhill.

Berryhill says he posted his mid-season highlights (above) on Hudl and within a day or two, Sooners director of player personnel Drew Hill reached out and said he liked what he saw. So Hill extended an invite for Berryhill to attend an OU game or two.

Berryhill went onto say, “I was born a Sooner so this a great experience.” Berryhill added he is starting to hear from some schools, but he’s definitely planning to get back to Norman for another game this season.

The hard part here is both from a numbers standpoint in this 2016 class, as well as OU’s current standing with a number of other talented LB prospects. We’ll have to see how things eventually shake out, but I feel confident Berryhill has the skill set and ability to play at the next level. – (Brandon)

* UPDATE (8:47 pm): Sooners 2016 QB commit, now apparently signee, after presumably signing his financial aid agreement.

Any chance the OU-KU game will be televised by FS1?

  • Stephen Dale says:

has the frame to grow into a DE. Can’t really tell much about his quickness. Wrestlers have done playing football for OU ( McQuarters, OL from Colorado, Wahoo McDaniel, etc )

  • Boom says:

Thanks K and it just keeps getting better for OU. Blake looks like a load and when he learns how to use his hands and gets better on his steps, he could really be good. I’m wondering if the coaches like him as that stand up DE. He could easily be 245 in college so where do you see him fitting in. thanks again

    • Soonerfan24 says:

Both of these updates were actually Brandon. He’s been putting in a lot of time despite having those two little future Sooners running around his house!

    • hOUligan says:

And, another guy with a strong wrestling background. He knows how to hand fight, just some technique and developing his speed. Could be a hoss.

  • LLAdamJ7 says:

I like the film of Berryhill. Always meeting the ball carrier at the LOS and pushing him backwards!

  • Jeremy Phillips says:

    Any updates on Tren’Davian Dickson?

  • BoomerDave says:

I read where the Southmoore duo of Thompson and Walker were actually in Stillwater this past weekend, not Norman as previously reported here. And Thompson picked up a commitment while visiting. Can’t really see that happening unless OU never offers, in which case we could lose Walker as well.

    • EasTex says:

Thompson committed or he was offered?

    • Kelly Gurbcock says:

I don’t know why OU hasn’t offered him yet! Sooner legacy, stud QB…Can’t let this guy slip to little brother.

      • Jofield says:

Part of Bob’s integrity is not offering until he is SURE that he wants that player. He does not offer players just to get his foot in the door. Having said that we typically only take one scholarship QB per class and we don’t want to tie our hands too early. I think we will eventually offer him though.

    • cozyone says:

Thompson is still a Soph so wouldn’t get too worried yet.

    • Keithen says:

Walker was in Norman. I think he is ours no matter what. Thompson has still visited OU numerous times and I expect that to continue. He and Lincoln Riley are building a solid relationship. I do know that Oregon is his dream school. But who knows how much of that is just the “shine” of the program and facilities. Regardless, I expect an offer sooner than later. Getting Quindon Lewis wouldn’t hurt.

      • Travis Coyle says:

I saw Kendall Thompson and his little bro at the WV game. Mayfield showed love and so were the coaches. I think we are in as good a shape as can be.

  • Chris White says:

I think Berryhill will end up as another preferred Walk-On in this class, has talent, just needs to drop the 40 time a bit too

  • Oscar says:

From the Scranton paper: Lackawanna College offensive lineman Ashton Julious plans to continue his football career at the University of Oklahoma.

Julious announced his commitment Monday on his Twitter account @bigdreams_66: “After talking with my coaches & family I have decided to continue my academic & athletic career at OU!! #BoomerSooner”

From Florence, S.C., the 6-foot-8, 342-pound Julious is Lackawanna’s starting right tackle. He has helped the Falcons to a 7-1 overall record and a No. 9 ranking in the NJCAA Top 20 poll. The team is first in the Northeast Football Conference in scoring offense (50.5 points per game), rushing offense (240.1 yards per game) and total offense (449.1 ypg).

Last season, Julious was a second-team NFC all-star.

“We redshirted him when we got him, and he’s just gotten better and better as he’s gone along,” Lackawanna coach Mark Duda said. “This year he’s just had an outstanding year.

“They have a need at Oklahoma; I guess they’re losing two of their top five (offensive linemen). So he’ll get to go there and have an opportunity. We’re thrilled about it. He’s a good kid who’s done a great job for us all around.”

    • Oscar says:

From his Coach “He’s probably 6-foot-6 ½, 330 and has good movement skills, good strength levels and he’s gotten better and better. Got his weight under control which was a good thing and had two great years back to back.”

  • Rick says:

Looks like Samaje, “could” hit the 1000 yard mark this coming game. He and the line are hitting their stride, the passing game is up and running, and it’s Kansas. It would take quite an effort, but not unattainable, given what happened last year.

    • Jofield says:

I would be surprised it we didn’t run for at least 300 yards as a team and Samaje will be a large chunk of that. But Riley will take whatever they give us so we might just throw the ball all over the place instead.

      • Rick says:

Agreed. Kansas is 127th out of 127 in total Defense, 118th out of 127 in rushing defense and 124th out of 127 in passing yard allowed. Lincoln may ask his guys “what do you guys want to do this week?”

        • Jofield says:

Wow, I didn’t realize they were dead last. That’s… sad.

          • EasTex says:

            Giving up 563.1ypg.
            /ouch

          • Golfluvr13 says:

Wow, I may not have a choice about staying for the whole game this week then. Since I’m not driving I will be with three people who will be ready to leave by halftime. LOL

          • EasTex says:

In addition to that it will be cold and rainy.
Unless your friends are devoted Sooner fans you might not make it to halftime.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

Well my wife is a “married in to it” Sooner fan and the couple we are going with are die hard chickenhawk fans. LOL

          • EasTex says:

            Well, there you have it.
You can still leave with a hoarse voice, regardless of the play clock.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

Our youngest son is going to be there too. He has tickets two rows behind the Sooners bench. I might just go sit with him after the other three leave and get some autographs. 😎 I will have no voice after the game either way.

          • soonersd says:

Cold, rainy day with Perine lined up in the backfield… KU players are having nightmares for sure.

          • Ed Cotter says:

Kinda scary….They give up more yards than OU even averages per game. Sooners just need to stay focused and not turn it over.

          • Rick says:

Last year they were sorta middle of the pack, lots of angry people from Wisky last year, saying Nebraska was much better when Gordon had set the new record a week before, when statistically, NU and KU were only a few spots apart in the middle of the road.

          • Jofield says:

Goodness that whole ordeal was so annoying. They acted like we somehow offended them by breaking his record. Gordon is a great running back everybody knows that. Perine is a great running back everybody knows that (a few even admit it).

          • j l says:

Nebraska’s rush defense was top 15 until the wisconsin game last year, gordon faced the tougher defense. Only after that game was kansas’ rush defense statistically close to nebraskas’.

That being said, samaje broke the record in terrible conditions, in only about 40 minutes of play time.

            Amazing efforts by both backs.

        • metzker says:

Ya think he said that before texsa? i just want the win

    • Fear The Magic says:

As you said ” its Kansas”. He might hit the 2000 mark this game.

  • EasTex says:

I just had a vision of Brown at LT, Julious at LG, Wren at Center, Paul at RG and Samia at RT.
    I can dream, right?

  • Jofield says:

Question. Is it possible that TCU is going to hurt itself in the long run by not playing true linebackers. It really hurt us for two or three years, especially in recruiting. But think about it. TCU is essentially playing safeties at LB and they only have one true LB in their current recruiting class? Are LB recruits going to shy away from TCU now?

    • Golfluvr13 says:

They don’t really have a choice right now. All of their LB’s are either hurt for the year, or suspended due to off-field issues.

      • Jofield says:

I 100% agree with you but my question is, why aren’t recruits banging down the door to have an opportunity to start right away?

        • SoonerfanTU says:

If those hurt or suspended LB’s aren’t seniors, they’ll be back next year, no?

          • Jofield says:

Yes but even now there are seven other LBs on the roster who are NOT playing (or at least not starting).

      • Jofield says:

I just checked. TCU has nine total LBs on its roster but none of them are playing. Only two of those are really due to injuries/personal issues. And again, I am not questioning Patterson’s logic. I just wonder what the long term effect will be.

        • Golfluvr13 says:

I read about it earlier in the year, and how many of those are walk-ons compared to scholly players. That is the problem. TCU had to start 5 walk-ons against KSU and look what their D did that day.

    • EasTex says:

Ranked 68th in the country in total defense allowing 397.4ypg and they haven’t played the best teams on their schedule is an indication that their defense is in trouble.
Out of 15 commits 6 are espn top 300, only one of which is a 3star 197lb LB and no DTs.(?)

    • Clay Davis says:

It did for us, but it also made sense at the time.

      • Jofield says:

It makes more sense for them now than it did for us then. We gave up over 500 rushing yards to WV that year and never adjusted to it. For us it was a total disaster, TCU has still be at least solid.

        • Clay Davis says:

That’s true, although we were locking down the pass pretty tight that season, and we weren’t gashed that badly until the WV game. As I recall, Holgorsen noticed that we weren’t using LB’s much and moved Austin to RB for that game to exploit our weakness behind the line.

        • Sooner4life says:

Not sure I agree with them being solid this year. The last five games they have given up 37, 52, 7, 45, 21 and still haven’t played the big dogs on offense besides Tech. Defense has been their weakness this year for sure.

  • james babcock says:

I would prefer Caleb Kelly over the Oklahoma kid no disrespect to the Oklahoma kid but Kelly is a 5star stud those players don’t just grow on trees.

  • Gary Robbins says:

Was up at 5 this morning-couldn’t sleep. Threw this together for next years 3 deep offensive line.
    Brown 6-8/345, Julious 6-6/342, Alvarez 6-3/310, Danley 6-4/301, Samia 6-4/290
    Frison 6-6/290, Ford 6-4/322, Dalton 6-4/300, Paul 6-4/356, Evans 6-5/288
    Daimler 6-7/306, Hartsook 6-5/320, Wren 6-3/322, Hearne 6-3/288, Mittermeier 6-5/285
The height and weights may be off depends on where you look. But look at all the combinations.
    Qbs-excellent
    Rb’s-out of this world
    Te’s-very good group
Wr’s- also a very good group of 9 to pick from, who will be the next shepherd or can their be one.
I have the defense side but not sure where to place them all. Need to replace Tapper, Striker, Bond, Lindley, and Shannon. The defensive should be meaner than a junk yard dog though.

    • hemisooner says:

I don’t know about WRs being very good. We have guys that have potential but they have to CATCH the ball. Losing Shep hurts.

      • Exiled In Ohio says:

Never thought I would say it, but losing Neal will really hurt as well! Would sure like to see Quick developed.

        • hemisooner says:

          Good solid WR.

        • Rene Goupillaud says:

Never understood why folks were down on Durron. The one time we went deep to Neal last year, he made a tough catch. I just don’t believe Josh used him right at all. He may not have the YAC we are accustomed to, but he makes some tough catches like the one against West Virginia a couple of weeks ago.

          • EasTex says:

            Never understood it either.
Solid player and great team mate. Glad to see him finally get the opportunities he has now and the recognition.

          • Boom says:

With his build, I always wanted him to catch those bubble screens and take off with his moves. Heck, he’s like 5’11 205 so he’s like a RB which is how I would use him as a WR.

          • EasTex says:

He is one tough hombre, too.

          • Bill Holder says:

I think Josh didn’t have much confidence in anyone but Shep, then when he went down it really hurt not having a solid 2nd to step up. Neal will fight for the ball and has good control of his feet on the sideline.

      • Gary Robbins says:

Shep will be the hardest of all Seniors to replace on both sides of the ball.
I just wonder who will step up from Baxter, Humphrey, Westbrook, Miller, Mead, Quick, Smallwood, Green, and Todd.

        • hemisooner says:

I guess Dede. Baxter is ok possession guy and good blocker but not a got to go. Maybe Miller or Green.

        • Mason says:

I really liked what Humphrey showed in the spring game. I think he has great potential.

        • Scott Moore says:

And who will return punts? 🙂 Shep is one of the greatest clutch WR we’ve had recently. But we always seem to find that one. He’ll present himself soon.

    • Tex'ish says:

I look for Samia to add some lbs after Schmiddy has time w/him…

    • hemisooner says:

would love to see LT Brown LG Dalton C Alvarez RG Julious RT Samia. KJ113 probably knows who is standing out in interior OL better than anyone else except K.

      • hOUligan says:

Some great OT prospects: Brown, Samia, Evans and Frison. OG: looks good, too. Like Dalton at center. Going to be a real strength heading into ’16.

    • Stephen Dale says:

I think you can forget Frison, Hartsook, Wrenn…..2 are walkons and one is likely a different type of casualty……will agree about the receivers, though…the starters may not be on campus at this moment………

  • Golfluvr13 says:

    Just throwing this out there:

    • rainydaze114 says:

Mike is making me eat some serious crow over the last few games and I love it.

    • BigJoeBrown says:

      This is awesome….hella job Sooners!

    • Doobie74OU says:

These numbers should get better over the next couple weeks before they run the gauntlet of Nov. Limiting Kansas and Iowa State will be a great set up for the baylor oSu and tcu games. Mike can continue to try a couple things. Continue playing some of that Quarters coverage that Super K has been talking about and just giving the defense confidence in general!

    • Slim Sooner says:

WOW! Sure am glad to be a Sooner. Thanks.

    • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

      See this, Caleb Kelly? Eh?

    • Jeff says:

Need these stars for the last 3 games

    • Tipman says:

OUr Pass Def has to be #1 by 150 yards

    • Walter Sobcek says:

Love the interceptions. Really need a positive TO ratio down the stretch.

      • Nate Broadus says:

That is the most important aspect of the defense the past few games: they’ve forced turnovers.

The secondary is full of ball hawks this season. Even without Sanchez, other dbs have shown the ability to jump a route or go up and take a ball away from a receiver.

        • blaster1371 says:

And those turnovers have to have a compounding effect of causing the QB to not try certain throws or be hesitant enough to miss an open reciever out of fear of throwing another oskie.

    • Jed says:

Mind you…we haven’t played Baylor, TCU or OSU, yet. Still, I’ll take the rankings for now.

      • EasTex says:

        True, but none of those three have played each other or OU and they rank thusly after the same number of conference games;
        Scoring defense:
        OSU 2nd–24.2 per game
        Baylor 4th–26.8 per game
        TCU 5th–31.2 per game

        Total defense:
        OSU 2nd–326.2ypg
        Baylor 4th–430.5ypg
        TCU 5th–441.5ypg

I like the Sooners chances as long as they continue to improve and win.

        • Jed says:

Me, too. I am cautiously optimistic about the stretch run…but after the debacle in Dallas, my needle moved decidedly over in the direction of ‘cautiously’.

          • EasTex says:

That one remains inexplicable to me, a statistical anomaly, an aberration.
The offense has been clicking since then.

        • Cush Creekmont says:

OSwho may have a few higher numbers after they play TT like the Sooners just did.

      • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

But, that is after playing Tulsa, West Virginia, and Taco Tech. All are in the Top 20 for total offense, according to the following resource:

        http://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fbs/current/team/21

But yes, the Cotton Bowl fiasco, too, is my barrier to supreme-o, freakout optimism.

        • Jed says:

All true and valid points. I’ve just been bitten often enough to make me a bit gun shy. Baylor second half ’14 springs to mind. As does the RRR this year.
…and Baylor’s breaking in a new, young QB
…and TCU’s essentially suiting up anyone healthy enough to stay vertical
          …and Poke is Poke
But I reserve the right to remain nervous.

    • Nate Broadus says:

I’d shrug if this was just against bad teams — however, WVU and Tech have put up points and yards on everyone they’ve played, and OU held both to their lowest point total of the season so far (probably yardage total, too).

And we basically spotted Tech several touchdowns with turnovers.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

Our D stats for the year, nationally, aren’t bad either. Top 5 in D Efficiency on ESPN if I’m not mistaken. And a top 5 team in Team Efficiency as well. That is why the talking heads are all so high on OU right now, by looking at the metrics and efficiency numbers, we’re a pretty darn good team.

  • hushnpa says:

    • CWasha says:

Not sure that he’s a 4.4 (I’d guess 4.6 or 4.7) like they list but he plenty fast and can jump out of the gym. An easy 6’6″

  • Kelly Gurbcock says:

Anything new on which way Tramonda Moore seems to be leaning guys? It sure seems like he has been spending a lot of time in stillwater lately. Given his H.S. coach, I think he’s headed that way which is gross.

  • trusoonerA53 says:

Does anyone know how Anderson (Frrb) is doing?

    • KatyOUdad says:

I was at the game Saturday and saw Anderson coming out at halftime. He was still on crutches. Assume he is doing his rehabilitation and is on schedule.

      • EasTex says:

I can’t imagine the disappointment and frustration for the young man. After so many carries in so many games and to have played at such a high level at Katy to have that happen so early and on special teams.
Love the young man and have been a fan since I first saw him play as a freshman in the playoffs.

        • KatyOUdad says:

If I recall correctly, he tore his knee his sophomore year too. Obviously rebounded well from that. Also, not sure you heard, but Max Wright, the highly touted 2018 DE from Katy Taylor tore his knee earlier this year and is out for the season.

        • EasTex says:

I don’t remember Rodney being hurt.
Hate to hear that about Max.

        • Bill Holder says:

Right, I was impressed watching him play for Katy. Hope he doesn’t look too hard at the number of carries for next year, if you know what I mean. If he will stick through extra year SP will probably be gone.

Samaje won’t leave until he graduates, if he graduates early he will have his Momma’s blessing.

  • Brien Brown says:

Ok so watching the recruiting trail some and knowing we had a big weekend with some big names on Campus this is what I have came up with and with 12 commits and us looking at a 19 to 20 class I say we only need 7-8 more so this is where we stand according to the Crystal Ball and some of what I personally believe! Just some big names and guys we have seen and heard about.

LB Caleb Kelly- CB 95% I think we get Kelly which would make this a great LB class
WR Devin Duvernay- CB 5% I think it’s a stretch to land him but heres to the hope
DT Chris Daniels- CB 33% I think we made a good impression and think he has a good relationship with some of the guys already on board I say he goes to OU
OL Tramonda Moore- CB 67% Seems OSU is picking up some steam but, in the end I say he is a Sooner
LB Dontavious Jackson- CB 15% I think we are on the outside looking in say he goes Longhorn
DT Marcell Southall- CB 100% I think CB has it right he had a great visit and would be a huge fit with us moving forward
OL Kellen Diesch- CB 20% this would be the biggest get IMO and I think we can do the work, I am saying this will be one of those Signing Day surprises and he goes with OU
OL Johncarlo Valentine- 20% with Diesch this would be huge and helpful I think he pulls the trigger with OU as well
DE Amani Bledsoe- CB 78% it’s between us and KU and KU is not looking good which could help their cause in saying hey we need help now come play for us, but I think we win in the long run

Guys we are hopeful to swing and maybe get them to OU, Barton, Oliver, Cleveland, and Speights, I’ll take Speights as the only one we can get to come to OU, Though I really think we will make the cut with Cleveland and be a strong contender all the way through. So I say Kelly, Moore, Daniels, Southall, Diesch, Valentine, Bledsoe, and Speights will all be Sooners giving us 8 and 20 for the class. I am reaching some but think this could be likely and I would be more than OK with this considering those on board already!

    • EasTex says:

I’m watching Speights and his team from this past Friday right now. I will have to trust the coaches on this one, but he just doesn’t look like an OU RB to me. They understand development better, I’m sure, because he will really, really need it for the next level.

      • Brien Brown says:

I agree 100% but seems he really liked OU I hope Whaley changes his mind and OU can get him but I am not thinking that is likely! I believe OU may see something in him and let’s think about it he will have probably 2 years before he would even see the field possibly 3 so that’s the time needed to mold him!

        • EasTex says:

The young man has a severe case of noassatall. That is the power base for athletes.
There are still a number of excellent RBs around, in Texas alone for that matter, that aren’t drawing any attention.

          • Brien Brown says:

Well I think they have one in their back yard they aren’t looking at that I think has they mold and make of a great RB in Z’Quan Hogan! The Kid can play! Mean must be something real special they see in him IDK what it is with Speights.

          • EasTex says:

I like Hogan’s video, but his lack of offers is concerning.
As for Speights, I will just have to trust the coaches. I watched the game they attended and gave him his offer, I was more than a little surprised.

      • Zack says:

His senior highlights are much improved from his junior. The issue I have is that on film his competition looks very inferior. Looks like everyone on the defense for a few of the teams are less than 200 except the DTs.
I’m not sure that there is an elite back on our list but trayveon Williams would have been a nice get.

        • EasTex says:

This is the second game I have seen and the compo is not that good. Teams from that district seldom get past the first round of playoffs as they typically play San Antone schools.

          • Zack says:

If he can legitimately post a 4.4 then I like the offer. But I’ve seen anywhere from 4.38 to 4.61 which tells me he’s probably a 4.5 guy. The other question I have is does he play fast ie. Samaje who is probably 4.6 but plays much faster.
I also like the Jeremy Lewis kid from lone grove. He’s a one cut and go kind of guy who I think lacks the conditioning and training there but would likely excel in a college weight program.

          • EasTex says:

No way Speights is in the 4.4 range, unless he is sandbagging in the games I have seen or that is his time with shorts and track shoes.
There are a number of good RBs I know of, one is out of Greenville Tx High, another at Mt. Pleasant and the kid from my home town Chavis Mills. Mills is a replica of Daniel Brooks, just a .1 slower.
There was a kid from Longview that no one even knows about that is at baylor, apparently red shirting, his name is Hasty. Short, powerful and fast.
            http://sports.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-JaMycal-Hasty-151481
Still lots of good talent out there.

          • Zack says:

I thought a lot people wanted hasty. Osu was after him hard either before/after Ronald jones.

          • EasTex says:

He had some good offers, just not very many.
The kid Mills is the same size, a tick faster and finished 5th in the Texas State Powerlifting championship, yet no one is recruiting him. His coach doesn’t understand it, he thinks it must be his height.

          • EasTex says:

Actually, I am getting concerned about RB recruiting. We have had some great kids coming in year after year and in 2014 we got two great ones. In 2015 we got a good one in Anderson, but he was the only one. Now for 2016 we don’t have a good one committed and aren’t really in contention for the really good ones. Sure hope that changes for 2017 or the pipeline will down to a trickle.

          • Sooner Ray says:

I expect next year to pick up a little. I think some RB’s are scared off right now seeing we have two great RB’s on the field who still have some playing time ahead of them. I bet we get a stud or two when Perine and Mixon are a year away from leaving.

          • Bill Holder says:

Think you are right on Lewis from Lone Grove but don’t think we are trying very hard there.

          • Zack says:

Yeah I’ve thought all year that we will take an in state walkon at running back plus one scholarship guy.

    • Randy says:

Really need Cleveland.. He is the 1 player in the class that can/could come in next year and be a difference maker. With Shepard and Neal gone we need a Cleveland to try to make up the difference..

      • Zack says:

Agree and it’s not talked about enough that there’s big time shoes to fill after this year. Neal had been average up until this year where he’s been counted on more often and put in better position to succeed. Ryan Parker is a guy that a lot of teams around here want so hopefully next year he and Westbrook are big weapons. And I say bring in the top juco wr each year until we land those elite wr prospects out of hs.

        • Randy says:

          Yep.. Agreed.. !!!

        • Brien Brown says:

Idc who it is as long as they wanna be a Sooner, with that said yes we need a guy like Cleveland but lets look back last real high WR recruit that lived up to the hype before Shepard was Stills, so just because big name does not warrant def success. Andrews and the cast we have now look real good and could be even better with another year to grow!

        • Brien Brown says:

      • Brien Brown says:

I tend to agree that we need Cleveland and agree with your remarks about Shepard and Neal leaving. However Neal only thrived in this system, and I think Andrews, Westbrook, Mead, Quick, Green, Miller, Baxter, Meier, Humphrey and the guys committed in Parker and Hardy could be factors as well. I think the great thing with Cleveland is that he could potentially be a X Factor but, no one is saying he is the next Julio Jones or Ruben Randle which are guys we missed out on. Clearly the system can make guys better. I think a guy like Diesch is a must cause of the lack of great OL recruits in this class so far, mean we got a ton of young talent but, we need a guy like him IMO.

        • Randy says:

I am not convinced of the other WRs yet.. Westbrook is the only one as of today that I have any trust in. There are other recruits that we probably need more for down the road but for OU to have a chance to compete for a Big 12 title and playoff spot next year a WR like Cleveland is the difference (IMO). Next would be a JC OLB.

          • Brien Brown says:

Mean I think even Westbrook has been inconsistent really even so to speak, mean Andrews has made the most of his chances and yes Westbrook has had moments as well but so has Quick. To say OU needs a Cleveland to make the playoffs next year is saying he can come in and play as a FR and be a HUGE X factor, I am sure he can but rarely does a FR WR make that “BIG” of a difference that’s not IMO that is a fact. As far as a JUCO LB we need the kid from Florida to come can’t think of his name but, will be TOUGH to be the Gators or FSU for him.

Just a personal question but what does this do in regards to Casey
Thompson from Southmore because isn’t he a 16 kid as well

    • Austin says:

      2018 if I’m not mistaken

      • 47 Straight OU Know says:

You are correct!! Just a big Thompson family fan.

        • SoonerfanTU says:

Why? I didn’t care for how dad made public comments about Kendall’s handling at OU. I figured that entire deal would sour their family on sending another QB to OU. IF we’re recruiting the brother, I hope he is a MUCH better passer than Kendall was. We can’t be recruiting “athletes” at the QB position any longer. We need to be going after the best passers. Guys that can spin it.

          • Jeremy Phillips says:

They aren’t soured on OU at all.. Charles has even shown some recruits around campus recently… Everyone in the country is after Casey… He’s gonna have a tough decision to make when that time comes..

          • Keithen says:

He is a better runner and a better passer. He throws a tight spiral and has a strong arm. Southmoore runs an uptempo spread type offense. I’ve watched a few of their games and I don’t see any reason Casey would not excel in this offense.

          • 47 Straight OU Know says:

Why what, Why am I a big Thompson family fan. I guess because I have known them since I was a kid. And for your remark on how Charles handled his sons involvement at OU. I will just say one word. HUEPEL!!!

          • Keithen says:

This!!! Lincoln Riley has completely changed their view on OU. I still think Kendal deserved more of a shot here.

          • 47 Straight OU Know says:

Yes you are correct they cant throw a guy in there at the beginning of the second-half and the first play is a hail-Mary pass to a double covered receiver.

    • EasTex says:

We’ve known Kendall was all in for a while and it looks like the 2017 Robison is all in, also. I’ve heard Thompson is a real talent. He will have a decision to make next year.

    • Fear The Magic says:

      No hes only a sophomore.

  • Ed Cotter says:

Alright! Congrats to Austin Kendall. Boomer Sooner Austin!!

  • kt-raida says:

Austin committed and never wavered #respect

  • Sooner Ray says:

Austin will be a good Sooner and who doesn’t like a kid that goes all in.

    • Ed Cotter says:

I loved his interview a few days ago about being committed to OU and his relationship with Riley. And he gets to redshirt next year and learn the ropes. Hopefully this recent offensive outburst has gotten noticed by some of the top 2017 QBs as well.

      • EasTex says:

We already have Robison all in for 2017 and he might be even better than Kendall.

        • Fear The Magic says:

Yep didnt see this before I wrote my reply ( above ).
Really happy to have Kendall aboard but the 15 TDs to 9 INTs….ouch.

      • Sooner Ray says:

I’ll admit my glasses are a deep crimson tint, but who wouldn’t want to be a part of this offense we are watching develop right now?

      • Fear The Magic says:

I believe that we already have our 2017 QB commit and hes a good one.

    • hOUligan says:

Something about kids named Austin? All in with Austin!!

  • Mizuno44 says:

I’m starting to respect and understand the importance of recruits who just plainly and flat out want to be a Sooner.

        • OohRah Mama says:

I usually have a low tolerance for throwing words around loosely; I have volunteered to work with vets, and my oldest Marine worked at a Vet’s Center. One of my great uncles struggled with his mobility due to wounds received in WWII. And I most certainly grasp the reason for the above sentiments. But with Sanchez’ post, I’d lovingly likely say to some fans, a little levity and forgiveness is called for. This isn’t some punk jawing off again having shown previous disrespect for others’ pain. It’s just our Zach S. making light of having to hobble around temporarily when he’s used to doing things himself. Maybe the “k” in kripple was a joke to make it light. I may be wrong, but I just didn’t take it as a stupid or ridiculous statement.

          • Clint Lenard says:

No, it’s because he thinks he’s a blood like half of the kids on the team. I promise you that’s why he typed it that way. 110% positive.

          • Easton says:

Not a crip on the team. JR Smith, Lil’ Wayne, make being a blood appear to be lucrative as well. I hate it, but it isn’t the only thing in this world that deceives and inevitably causes suffering.

          • Clint Lenard says:

Yep. Everyone is a Blood these days. Tony Jefferson, K. Stills and Brennan Clay have made similar tweets.

          • Easton says:

I work in a field where I spend many hours one on one with young gang affiliated boys. I was thinking recently that the crimson makes young bloods keep OU on their list. If they’re serious, no blue schools. Thus, some of our guys chose OU, in part, to rep the gang.

          • Clint Lenard says:

I grew up involved in gangs in SoCal and I can say that part of that is right, but another part is who’s already there. The Cali trio brought part of that to the school and kids like Sanchez most likely did choose based on that. Having Cali kids always make it more ‘real’ to the kids who grew up wanting to be a part of what they see on TV. Unfortunately that culture is becoming an issue at some schools.

          • OohRah Mama says:

            Well, bless your heart dear.

    • RBear says:

Someone get him down to a veteran’s center so he can see what being crippled really means.

    • Clint Lenard says:

It’s because he thinks he’s a blood and they can’t spell anything with a C. So lame. Cid needs to grow up.

      • Brien Brown says:

Clearly you wanna make something out of nothing as he can clearly you C’s as he did on come, clean, and can’t if he was that big of a G he would of used a K on all of those words. SMH, let’s point out everyone’s little flaws shall we?
