Following a visit to Norman this past weekend, massive 2016 JUCO offensive lineman Ashton Julious announced his commitment to the University of Oklahoma via his Twitter account.

Julious fills a big need in this 2016 class for the Sooners who, quite frankly, had run rather thin in terms of realistic remaining OL targets. But Bill Bedenbaugh and the OU staff obviously made the necessary impression this past weekend and now bring Julious into the fold.

Boomer
SOONER!
BOOM ?
That is one massive dude.
Yeah, after the hit at the 38 second mark, I was thinking they need to check this dudes birth certificate or something.
that would be an understatement
Guard or Tackle?
I second the question! Would love to see him be at an impact player next year
Hoping he has the versatility to play G considering he’s a JUCO guy and we have two freshman starting at T
Don’t forget that Samia can play guard also. So if Coach B is trying to get the best five then all three of them can be in there at once if needed.
With his size, both at once, which allows us to get to our 6 WR package.
I had to read that a few times to see which one of us was drunk…
Sounds like the answer might be both.
Haha just having a little fun
Now that is forward thinking!
Yessir – and our 3-2-7 D-scheme to combat those 6 WR packages.
I hope guard. I think “smaller” OT’s do better in this offense.
And what do you base this on? Phil Loadholt, Lane Johnson, Donald Stephenson, Trent Williams, Daryl Williams…these were all Big tackles and they were great in this offense.
Like Orlando Brown?
He is a right tackle at Lackawanna
That’s a “first off the bus” kinda dude! Can’t wait to see him after some time in the OU Strength program.
And BOOM! it is.
BOOM! NICE JOB COACH B!
If we keep recruiting kids this size, we may need to recruit power forwards for QB
My brother went to the TU-Memphis game and talked about how big their QB was (6’7″ I believe), and couldn’t believe how mobile he was. When he first saw him he thought the QB was probably a TE, then he went behind the center.
Ryan Spangler, come on down!
Noice!
I bet that 400 yard rushing effort vs. Tech helped to convince Ashton that OU was “OL University”.
I’m probably missing it somewhere, but does he have 3 years to play two or 2 for 2? The Lackawanna site has him listed as a sophomore, but Yahoo says he graduated high school this past year. So, I can’t figure it out… cuz, I is dumb. 4 years to play 3?
Bob from scout just said on twitter he is 2 for 2, and is a mid year enrollment, so he will be here for spring
cool, thanks!!
He will have to work hard to beat out Bobby Evans
That’s what we want. Everyone working hard.
I’m hoping Bobby comes back strong and quick cause I see him ad a LT and ashton as a RT or guard
This doesn’t make sense to me. You’ve got 2 freshmen starting at tackle right now. Frison coming back from suspension, and other freshmen behind them. Why go JUCO when it seems the position is locked down for the foreseeable?
Depth and competition. Also, he could play guard which is an open competition next year.
247 has him listed as a guard.
Is Frison coming back 100%?
I don’t know the answer, but this makes me think he might not make it, and I still don’t know why he was suspended
No one has said for sure but based on the way it has played out it has to be academics or some other form of an eligibility issue. He was ‘back’ early enough that he could have played most of this year, and given St. John’s struggles, he would have if he were available.
That’s the way I understood it, but I could be wrong
I hope u r right and that we recruited ashton, for tackle and Samia becomes a swing man, he has size, athletic abilities to play right tackle and power and flexibility to play guard
Because our line one of the worst in the Big 12
Not any more. By the end of the year we’ll be top 4.
Depth and I would think he is at least a little more of a know commodity when compared to a lineman straight out of high school. Never have too much depth and never have too much competition. If the freshman should relax and just assume since they started as freshman, their work is done, this would serve to challenge them.
I just read they’re looking at him as a Guard also on SoonerScoop
I just read they’re looking at him as a Guard also on SoonerScoop
BOOM!! Welcome to Sooner Nation, big guy!!
He’s pretty raw though. His arms seem short for a guy of his size. Maybe a better guard in the long run….but whatever….WELCOME TO THE SOONER NATION!!! THE PALACE ON THE PRAIRIE…BOOMER!!
jucos, a swing and a miss……or hit………good luck to him
Lost count of how many people he drove completely off the video screen and out of view and those cut blocks………whoa!
The last one on the video was great. D-lineman goes down. Linebacker coming through follows in short order. That will definitely help thin out the numbers advantage at the line.
LT Orlando Brown 6’8 360, LG Joseph Paul 6’4 345, C Jonathan Alvarez 6’2 300, RG Kenyon Frison 6’6 330,, RT Ashton Julious 6’8 330 lbs
dru samia?
right.
havent heard news on Paul since he committed
He was walking around near 4 bills when he got on campus. Can’t imagine him playing ever really. He was taken more so to show interest in Garnett IMO.
J. Paul is the real deal. Dudes a mauler. He’ll figure it out.

So you’re saying we need a 7′ QB…
Or some stilts.
Has OU not recuritied a true center?
Keep the beef cakes coming!
His recruiter is listed as Tiffany Byrd.
seems like he would be an NFL caliber guard
How many years of eligibilty will he have, 2 or 3? Let’s hope he is the next Load!
Hearing he’s a 2 yrs to play 2 guy but comes in mid-year so would be around for spring.
Nice pickup!! I hope the coaches slide him over to guard and let the young tackles keep holding down the outside positions.
Yep. Question the speed and stamina a bit for our style offense.
Welcome aboard, Ashton!!! We owe a lot of folks some beat downs. And you’re the perfect mallet to use. I think I’ll call you Mjolnir, the name of Thor’s hammer.
you’re*
What’s up, Dustin?
I’m a little disappointed Speights hasn’t committed yet. I thought you two knew what you were doing.
You like rolling the dice, don’t you? LOL!
You know you’re the man.
I wouldn’t worry about Speights. My imaginary friend tells me that he’s in the bag.
What did your friend say about Whaley 2 months back?
Imaginary? Friend? Are you talking about Sooner Ray?

Plug him in right next to Orlando.
And let dalton and Alvarez go at it for center
Edit: not sure if hearne played center at all but he seems like he would be a good fit. Experience is a big deal so I would bet on Alvarez.
Excited to see these young guys next season. I like Dalton; he played through the whistle a couple of times on Saturday and left Tech players on their backs. Need that mentality in our OL.
For everyone with questions about where he will play, rivals has a free story, it says they will start him out at guard and or could be moving some young guys inside, so looks like just about what u would think, they will get the 5 best on the field.

He understands he will have to work hard to get to the next level but also he is a team player and do what it takes to get on the field. He will get good coaching from Coach B. I can’t wait to see how the oline will be next year.
