He has a great ability to keep his eyes downfield and throw on the run, or tuck it. So far has made good decisions imo

Here we go.
Stoops starts by calling Baker Mayfield exceptional against Tulsa
“The only down side of the day was probably the two fumbles.”

Pretty much a “participation trophy” with that performance!
“Special teams were all solid, coverages were good.”
Team will practice Mon-Thur this week, specific focus on correcting mistakes from the last couple weeks. – Stoops

Good news!
It is, but this kid is really starting to show a pattern. And those don’t turn out well at OU.

Seemed pretty annoyed about it and understandably so. No way in hell that s/b allowed.
Was there a falling out with Finely and the OU staff?
That seems devious
Wow…That’s jacked up, really, really jacked up. My lack of respect for Baylor just continues to run deep.
Did Finley use his former player status to get on the sideline or can Tulsa allow whomever they want on their sideline? Either way, low by Finley.
It was a different coach, but also a former OU guy. It was my bad naming Finley. He was just the first one who came to mind b/c I knew he was there (meaning at Baylor) now.
I had heard this yesterday, but didn’t say anything because I didn’t know if it was true.
I also heard that he was dressed in TU coaching gear.
Next time do tell. Someone (see above) knows the NCAA rules.
seems that would be a rules violation of some sort and if so, turn them in
Saw this on ESPiN a few minutes ago and had to jump on TFB for some insight. I think Baylor’s whole coaching tree is underhanded. Montgomery comes from BU and next thing you know a coaching buddy shows up on TU’s sideline. The advantage may be minimal but it reinforces the total lack of morality Art Briles disciples display. His son was suspended for violations and this guy is his son-in-law from my understanding. Disguising himself as a TU assistant should settle whether or not this was intentional cheating IMO.

Stoops says they have to start doing a better job blocking for Alex Ross on KO returns
Dean trying to venture down the DBs playing too far off road, but you can hear the fear in his voice about doing so.
fwiw, Bob says playing up on the LOS “is not always the answer.”
Neither is giving up 2 touchdowns in 16 seconds…or whatever ridiculous amount of time it was.
and you think that was because they played off the LOS?
Could be. It’s a mental judo game…especially when they don’t have true “lockdown” corners. I fully believe that some of these guys get that big cushion and think that there is no way they’ll be beat deep because of said cushion. This limits their abilities to read and react. It’s a complacency thing. You can give some cushion, but overall I would lean toward getting guys up close so they feel a challenge. It reminds me of the philosophy of the prevent defense…which really only prevents you from defending.
Regardless, whatever they did, did not work. Most of it falls on the shoulders of the front 4 or 5 for not getting pressure consistently.
Pretty sure jamming for a hail Mary pass is not as important as defending it – If you want to bitch on that one, do it to the coaches for not putting all the super tall WRs in the end zone as DBs for that ONE play.
Seems that Tulsa had more guys in that spot than did OU. So yeah, defending sort of in the defense’s job description…and that of, say, the DC. Also, I never said “jamming” was the cure. I don’t mind some cushion, but 6, 7, 8 yards is too much. Back to the Hail Mary, they should have known it was coming. Might as well play three safeties on the goal line and then man up on the WRs…rush three or four.

More context to it, Stoops wasn’t quite ready to go there just yet.

Stoops says he and the admin DO have a problem w/ a bunch of 11am kickoffs
Says the have, and will again, mention it to the Big 12.
A few years ago the gripe was too many night games… I don’t think he should talk about it publicly. Just looks like whining.
He’s just answering a question he was asked, but I hear ya.
For sure. I get it.
I agree, just play the game.
Yeah I’d rather he have the mentality of “I don’t much care when the game is. They can have it at midnight. We have to be ready to play” which is what I’d expect him to say.
No, I agree with Stoops. 11 am kickoffs are bull%$^.

Stoops said Darlington & Kasitati expected to be back at practice this week.
Man if he is actually going to be in game shape by then, I think he can really help us. Probably gets those reps Mead is getting now.
Only good as a blocker IMO.
Based on his physique, he’d be the best blocker of the bunch. Dude is ripped
He was a good blocker and why he got early playing time…you gotta like how the other guys are blocking though. Baxter and DeDe blocking like they’re pushing 200 instead of pushing a buck 65
Where has he been?
Getting over a knee or leg injury suffered in spring ball.

This is a well timed bye. Rest and prep for WVU. The ‘Billys are going to be in it to win it.
Thats how I feel. I love the early bye week, and the fact we get just one. Once a Stoops team is rolling (any team really), you don’t want to stop it.

Stoops kind of hinting at Farniok staying at OG
He’s not bad there. He’s much more of a mauler than a spread LT imo.
was it just me of did Alvarez look like he was wearing shoulder pads that were borrowed from one of the kickers?
Thought he did well at OG and Alvarez at center. Certainly gives Coach B one more guy with game experience to work with if it gets him on the field.
I thought Alvarez’s snaps came out clean and with velocity. Looked like a veteran on his shotgun snaps. Very clean.
Unfortunately his body followed the snaps on quite a few occasions, lol.
Well……..that’s a difficult position to play when you don’t have any expereince. lol
Stoops asked about Kenyon Frison and really doesn’t offer much other than not to expect him on the field anytime soon.
I thought I saw him on the sideline but not dressed out.
That’s a wrap.
Esco-You da man. Thanks for bearing the pain of ridiculous questions to put this together. I actually like these pressers

So the Baylor coach on the sideline might be the biggest news from today. What’s up with that? Never heard of that being done before.
Pardon my ignorance, but what’s the big advantage of being on the opposing sideline? There’s a reason that coaches sit up in the booth: you can see better from there.
It’s not even about an advantage really. They get the film regardless. The only thing I can think is that they were trying to catch/watch signals. Usually can’t see that unless you’re at the field level.
Yup. That was the whole to-do with the Patriots.
Yeah, I can see that. I remember some angst last year when Baker was watching TT.
Matter of principle as well. Baylor coach dressed up as a Hurricane, just lost a whole lot of respect for that organization.
I didn’t think I could respect Art Briles any less, but guess what?
I cannot stand that arrogant, flatulent hole of a male …. I honestly do not know what it is, but every time I see him I wanna b-slap him.
Only thing I can think of is maybe he recognizes the signals we’re sending in from the sidelines?
We need to change all of our signals the week before the Baylor game. Mess them up completely.
It’s a freakin violation. F Baylor.
If there was an assistant coach from another Big 12 school on Tulsa’s sidelines, it would violate NCAA bylaw 11.6.1
I was kinda hoping that Bob would ask Art if it would be OK if Mike came down to stand on the sidelines for one if their games.:)
actually, Art has suggested that in his apology. it will never happen of course
Really disappointed about Kenyon Frison. I was hoping he’d be a key component on our OLine this year.
I don’t know if it has been mentioned, but I thought the TU players were playing dirty. To me it looked like every time they tackled Mayfield, they would ankle tackle him and then continue to hold his ankle and roll while in the pile. Not to mention all the late hits and face mask violations that didn’t seem to ever get called.
I saw the ankle and leg wrenching a few times too.
Didn’t the Baylor coach play for OU, and was also a GA for OU? If so, it’s really kind of low for him to blatantly commit a violation. Common sense would tell you it’s a violation. You don’t need someone to tell you a fire is hot to know it is hot!

Alex Dalton also had a really good game. When I replayed the game for like the third or fourth time I specifically watched him. He did have a holding penalty in his first series. But he routinely kept his man out of the play. He isn’t quite a mauler on run plays but seems to understand his role and put to work what he is being taught.
