– Jordan Elliott: Earlier this week 2016 DT Jordan Elliott (Houston, TX) tweeted out that he will visit Norman on the weekend of the TCU game.
https://twitter.com/JAE__95/status/643495813172338688
The trip comes as a bit of a surprise. Elliott told me he grew up a USC fan and has also bee rather high on Texas. In fact, he has already been to Austin multiple times over the summer and was also at last week’s game against Rice. In the many times I have chatted Elliott, he has never once mentioned Oklahoma. So after he tweeted out about the OU official visit, I reached out to him to get the latest.
Elliot mentioned having pretty pretty regular contact with OU defensive line coach, Diron Reynolds. But Elliott did admit that Nov. 20th trip was something of a “business decision.” He recognizes Oklahoma’s tradition, success & development players to go along with the new assistant coaches and says, “in any business you want to be put in the best place for you to succeed, so I’m looking for that job that gets me closer to being a boss.”
With his blend of size and athleticism, Elliot is definitely an NFL level prospect. His list of offers includes virtually all the major ‘name’ programs. In my opinion, OU’s potential chances with Elliot will be very much tied to their success on the field and, in particular, how the defensive front continues to play under Reynolds. – (Super K)
– Team Update | Austin Bennett: In case you missed it over the weekend, WR Austin Bennett has been removed from the official roster. Last we had heard (about a week ago) Bennett was suspended. However, based on his removal from the roster it would seem things are now a little more permanent.

TCU game is shaping up to be a big one for visitors!
We need to pound the horny toads into the dirt on that cold November evening.
BOOOOOOOOOMERRRRRRRRRRR
SOOOOOOOONERRRRRRRRRR
That’s a shame on Bennett. I thought he’d do pretty well in the slot. Here’s to him bouncing back the right way somewhere.
First…
How many DL do we take now this Roberts, Lampkin on board and Gallimore redshirting ?
First rule is to keep it short.
Didnt know he was suspended
Younquist apparently has reversed course and is trying to plan to tOSU ( per Scout )….
Urban obviously had God visit him in a dream, again. If it works once it’ll work again.
Not
Fear the magic posted a quote from him on rivals all in for OU my bad JB posted it
Well…if you aren’t just a ray of sunshine..

Don’t confuse Stephen with facts. They ruin his anti OU narrative.
That page didn’t look to me like a kid wavering on his commitment.
You haven’t had the type of Lasik surgery Stephen has though.
Hadn’t heard of Lasik for the brown eye
Stephen Dale has apparently maintained course and remains a tool (per everyone)………………………………………………………………………
Come on – I have a hammer, a power drill and saw and they are all useful tools. They don’t appreciate that kind of comparison.
Scout was also the recruiting site that titled a video OU Sooners favorite to make a move on a safety prospect last year. So of course I watched the video and literally the kid did not mention OU 1 time. He metioned texas about every other sentence and then also mentioned lsu, a&m, and I think oregon. needless to say I do not really by in to the service.
At the same time no one is a for sure until they sign. So you always have to be cautious.

Just in case you hadn’t read this already:
Bryce Youngquist, the four-star linebacker from Rancho Cucamonga (Calif.) Los Osos who verbally committed to Oklahoma last July, tweeted Monday he had received a scholarship from Ohio State. “It’s an honor but I’m already committed to Oklahoma,” Youngquist toldRivals.com. “Once I committed that’s my final decision.” my bad JB thought fear posted this
Regarding Bennett. There is Baxter’s scholarship.

Could seeing the ‘Horns in action last week turn him off to playing for Texsa?
He could start early and that would include QB.
I have a pretty solid chance of starting at QB for Texas, I just don’t want to take the beating behind that OL
I would but I’m over fifty, overweight and slow. Now that I think of it, that probably wouldn’t stop me. However, I’ve used up my eligibility so probably not.
I guess a degree from Texsa wouldn’t be a bad thing
Are you referring to the deodorant.
http://i.ytimg.com/vi/y4cgA5S60zk/maxresdefault.jpg
At this point in my career another degree wouldn’t do me any good. Besides I am not sure I could pass the courses in Arrogance. Maybe the first couple but getting thirty hours of credit in it might be too much.
I don’t have an adequate number of Spanish classes to apply
I know several dozen computer languages. Does that count?

Is that computer talk or the number of wins Texas will have in each of the next 32 years?
Binary code
Come on guys we dont need that kinda language on here

int main()

}
Of course, the same thing can be accomplished in my database environment too.
select ‘Texsa Sucks!’ from dual;
Fixed it for ya.
#include

int main()
{
while(true)
cout << "Texsa Sucks!" << std::endl;
return 0;
}
Heh, infinite sucking. Yep, that’s Texsa. LOL!
The fact that there are infinite types of infinity means your statement is a philosophical issue that will be studied for years.
Actually, there is a specific solution to Einstein’s General Relativity differential equations where Texsa sucks so hard that it creates its own gravitational singularity.
get a room
Isn’t that an infinite loop?

Yep. I R one.

apology accepted. 🙂
It looked like to me if Rice had brought their punt return team, they probabably would have won. Texsa set a school record on punt return yards.
UT is in trouble, KU is looking like the only sure win for them
Hopefully they just implode. I think they probably have too much talent for that, but missing a bowl game would be a good start. That University needs to suffer some.
It’s entirely possible. Lose to Cal and a 1-6 start is probable
Not so fast, my friend!
Some stickum would have helped. -5 in the TO category.
Thats amazing, I was looking at their stats, last year Rice had a total of 12 TO’s the entire year.
Wasn’t UT outgained on offense by about 200 yards? Crazy.
(total yards passing and rushing)
Rice – 562 Texsa – 277
Currently 126th in Total Offense out of 127. At least the D is better at 114th.
Edit: And they are dead last in Time of Possession.
Do you suppose MS is planning on hiring CS as a position coach at the end of the year?
It doesn’t work that way. We train them (Darryl Royal, Mack Brown, Jay Norvell) and then send them to UT. That way both schools improve.
If anyone is getting hired, it’s Viney.
I guess I should have added a /s at the end. I have been on my own little twitter campaign trying to drum up support for Viney (I personally think he is somewhat responsible for the upturn in the secondary), the CS was sarcasm.
Eh, Viney coached the secondary last year. I think Cooks gets any credit for improvement. That said, I like Viney and his recruiting, and hope we can find a way to keep him on the staff. Doing so might mean in the difference in landing Caleb Kelly and not.
Who is CS?
I was making a lame attempt at sarcasm and humor. CS is Charlie Strong. I was ultimately inferring his departure at the u of Texsa, at or before the end of the season.
Who is worse on offense?
Akron
Well that’s only b/c they faced a world class defense in week 1. I’d say UT’s offense is probably worse in that case. 🙂
Give them time to fall to 127 🙂
I am not a patient man.
at least wait til after they play OU too, so it’s at least fair
Well currently Akron’s opponents are 10th and 20th in total D. Pitt was a decent D last year and we were decent against the run which was the predominate part of their offense. Both are up in class from Akron so you are probably correct.
Texas only had the ball for around 15 minutes of the entire game.
Texas has TOP of 36.48 for the season. We had 32+ in both games.
Texas is 127 in 3rd down D…allowing 22/35; .629% conversion rate
Well they are tied for first in red zone percentage at 100%. Of course that could because they have had only two red zone attempts.
And that is where they will focus. Best in the redzone!
@disqus_GqOvpZtg3G:disqus I have another stat that really stands out. It’s an advanced computation that assumes a logistic distribution.
Given accumulated data from Texas’ first two games regarding their offense and defense (efficiency, explosiveness, long drives, 3 and outs,…) the result is as follows:
Texas = bad.
And there you have it.
There’s something wrong with your computer because everyone knows –
Texsa = suck (It’s a universal like Pi).
The logistic distribution has a different probability density function. Thus, bad (typically denoted by the Greek letter Theta) = so horrifically poor that pages in history books burn when someone tries to record it. @disqus_GqOvpZtg3G:disqus databases can’t even store it. It breaks the tables.
http://img.pandawhale.com/81785-WHAT-gif-Aaron-Paul-Breaking-B-DptC.gif
Actually, @sooneroracle737:disqus is the database guy. I am the programmer. Try to keep up.
Borderline obscene. Allowed I guess. 🙂
Math.
That’s crazy. Acceptable if they were some sort of hot spread team making all sorts of explosive plays, but they aren’t scoring that much on O, either.
Obviously not, since hes visiting them for the cal game this weekend.
I know that Tulsa’s offense will be a good test at least schematically for our D. Will their defense be a good gauge for our offense?
pretty sure they are ranked low on D(109)
Right, but they did go up against a couple of powerhouses in Fla Atl and New Mexico!
those two wouldve put up a thousand yards on Texsa
Doubtful. As mentioned by dave the are 109 in total D and 119 in Rushing D against two not very good teams. They are light on the D-line and our depth and the size difference will probably wear them out pretty quick. Given our problems getting started I would expect them to hang around for a quarter or two and then get worn down. After this game we probably won’t be asking why isn’t Perine getting his yards.
Yeah Bob, should be able to run at will over these guys and if they sell out on the run, Baker is going to rain balls all over the field on them. Just gotta limit the turnovers and give them short fields.
Not even looking at Tulsa’s defense in this game.
I view them as game prep for when the Sooners play the bears, as if they are the bears scout team. Our defense needs this test, IMHO, we have many pass happy teams coming up.
Yep. Obviously I hope we come out and lock down TU, but a part of me wants the secondary to have a few things the coaches can jump on them about, and keep them motivated and improving. Still not sure they (our secondary) have been tested in the passing game enough to be comfortable going up against TT, Baylor, and even TCU.
I don’t think they have been fully tested in the secondary either, which is why I view this as an important opportunity.
might add wv
Agreed. Tulsa being hyped as a trap game for OU because they’re 2-0, theyve put up some good offensive yardage, and now they have “awesome” coaches. Hmmm. Doesn’t it seem like every team we face suddenly becomes either a difficult test or trap for the Sooners. One game at a time. Win em all.
I think part of that hype is to ensure a sell out 🙂
We’re getting a TON of good press right now. I’m sure that has something to do with it too … for your ‘trap game’ thingie ….
Agreed. Think this can be great test of Mike’s revamped defensive scheme to show Him the vulnerabilities that Baylor’s scheme could expose down the line.
I’m worried. The Baylor O has been so rough on us lately.
Tulsa doesn’t have the same talent, but until I see the D stop a “Baylor” O, I’ll be worried.
I’m going to look at this game as a good “tune up” for Baylor. I think we can run on them all day so this will be good work for the defense.
They don’t and never will have the culture that’s at Baylor. Baylor is a dirty team from top to bottom, I think there’s many reasons but the main reason Texas didn’t go after briles has to do with the way he conducts his team. That’s completely speculative but there’s no way the Baylor rise is clean.
Tulsa won’t allow the same culture.
Anyone making it to the Tyler @ NEO game Saturday?
nm
I was really impressed with DJ Ward. He’s a big dude.
Nice to see him getting some quality PT in one of best players in the state a few years ago, but had to battle some unfortunate adversity since the end of his junior year in high school.
I think the dline is deeper and more disciplined this year. Nothing against JM but I think he played favorites at times and buried wade on the depth chart which made no sense to me. The kid looked good as a RSFR and is looking good so far this year.
It will be interesting to see how the defense as a whole plays vs spread no huddle teams. Our problem last year was that we couldn’t cover WR for even 2 seconds so no matter what kind of pass rush we had it was impossible to disrupt Baylor.
Wade seems to be performing better in this new attacking DL. I don’t think his heart was in a gap control NG role.
I think it takes a certain kind of guy to play that role. There aren’t many kelly Gregg type guys out there. Que appears to be one
I think Q, if asked, would prefer to be attacking and not rooster fighting with a Center all day. I played a lot of NG and it wasn’t a contain design like last year’s defense, but a stunting and attacking defense. Unless you are a mountain of a man like Phillips was, I think most guys on defense want to get after people not stand there and hold ground.
Interesting point. Makes sense.
Bennett. Good work Jay. One freakin WR remains.
I missed something. We only have one WR on our roster?
That norvell recruited
Quick, Todd, mead, Neal?
I just meant that’s what the dude was implying… Wasnt agreeing
Troll! 🙂
Troll indeed…. 🙂
JJ, welcome back. How was your trip?
It was great. Worn out after 2 straight fantastic weekend football trips… Tennessee was quite a bit of fun!
And victories are sweet.
indeeeeeeeedd
I don’t count Quick or Todd. They haven’t contributed have they? So that leaves Neal (dropsy) and Mead who hasn’t been on the field more than a few plays. So…
If you don’t like the numbers to make a point, make a point of using your own numbers?
What ever happened to Todd? Wasn’t he talked about over the summer as someone to watch?
No. I think that only leaves Dallis Todd from Jay Norvell recruits.
Smallwood was in the 2013 class and is still on the roster.
The worst thing about the whole deal is that he doesn’t have the proper support system. Even if you don’t start, go out and compete every day and earn a free education.
Yep. 150,000 dollars worth of an education. But you know everybody wants to get to the league.
I have a good feeling about our defense overall. Much improved over last year. Maybe they can provide the support necessary to carry our offense until it becomes a more cohesive unit for when the schedule toughens during the gales of November.
I’m sure reading a lot of post about how bad Texsa is. Just remember……we have a game coming up against them and then comes the excuse making when we barely escape with a victory. They beat us last year everywhere but the score board. Yeah, I know, score board is all that matters, but you can always expect their best shot, and we can expect that from every team we face every year just because there is Only One Oklahoma.
I remember 2013 when Herp Derp McCoy managed a win over us. I mean, even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while, but still… *shudder*
I agree Bill. If we come in thinking we can just show up and hang half a hundred again we are asking for trouble. Charlie Strong needs a win in the Cotton Bowl real bad. If he loses to Cal this week. Ratchet that up. Their new QB Herd may be finding his stride by then. One game at a time and we won’t be snake bit. If we are undefeated by then, good possibility, the hype will be raining down on these kids.
Question from an old time Sooner Fan. I remember a tradition about Slippery Rock University at OU home games in the sixties. If the announcers did not give Slippery Rock scores at least once per quarter, the crowd would start this chant: “Rock, Rock, Slippery Rock.” until the announces gave the score: “The Rock is up 24-17 over East Stroudsburg in the 2nd quarter.” It was kinda neat hearing crowd calling: “Rock, Rock, Slippery Rock.”
My question, is this still a tradition?
I was a student from 2006-09, and at every home game those years, and I never heard such a chant. Sounds cool though!
Just one of those things you sometimes remember from your younger days. They still end Boomer Sooner with 3.2?
“They still end Boomer Sooner with 3.2?”
I am not sure I am catching that reference. 3.2? 3.2 instead of
O-K-U at the end of the song?
Is that a reference to 3.2 beer?
Exactly. A reference to 3.2 beer sung instead of OKU.
Rah, Oklahoma.
Ray, Oklahoma.
3.2!
No more Slippery Rock.
Regarding 3.2, I’ve been attending since 1970 but never knew about 3.2.
It appears some of us old timers need to teach you new guys how to behave at OU football games. No Slippery Rock, no 3.2. What has OU football come to.
I do not remember the chant, but I do know the Slippery Rock score was always a regular highlight and would be demanded if not given. Also never heard them call it “the rock” always Slippery Rock when I was around.
Student in 97, didnt hear it at any home games i went to.
Student in the mid 80’s and don’t remember ever hearing that.
Not in ’91-’95 or any years through 2014
I don’t think I have heard a Slippery Rock score at the OU games in at least 15-20 years. I too remember the Slippery Rock score tradition and feel certain it continued through at least the 70’s maybe even the early 80’s.
OT!
Viewing alert, the new season of South Park at 9p.m.CST. This show will focus on a former Olympic decathlon gold medalist.
… and current?
Attention whore.
added an additional 15 minutes in the spotlight for the mindless
There is no person or subject off limits to SP and they always make a good point in the end. This is about the only format where I would be interested in this person.
Oh, I agree- I’m all about parody.
I can’t make myself watch cartoons or reality series type shows so I’m afraid I’m out. May fire up the Tenn. game (4th quarter) again. 🙂
It’s an acquired taste. Once I finally “got it” with SP I won’t miss it, they parody anyone and anything.
I have friends that eat it up and I enjoy the small clips I see here and there, just can’t sit through an entire episode…..for some reason it gets on my nerves after a few minutes.
Maybe you couldn’t figure out who killed Kenny?
I always thought it was Beevis and butthead but could never produce the evidence. 🙂
It was the bastidges what did it.
To each their own, mmmkay.
Indeed
Oh my God…you killed Kenny!!!
Zero interest in he/she or the Kardaschunds. Just 2 Mo Hoes doing what they do.
No interest in them either, but I am interested in the SP treatment. 🙂
Tulsa will be an interesting game. they are much better than last year and with BU’s offensive coordinator we’ll see some new wrinkles.
IMO, they don’t have the defense to stand up to our offense but their offense will be a great simulation for what our defense will face in conference play.
Agreed Ray.
I think the Montgomery guy just needs to get them to a couple bowl games and then head for Lubbock when they fire their coach.

Another viewing alert this for 7p.m. Thursday night. Chanse Sylvie’s team Calvary Baptist plays Shreveport Byrd high school. Byrd beat the #7 Texas 5A team last week, Longview high.
The game is on one of the channels I have and will be replayed Friday morning at 8a.m. on FSSW. Because FSSW always shows the Texas stRangers here in Dallas, the game may be available in your respective areas on Thursday night.
On DirecTV the channel is 676-4. It shows 6:30-9:30 time frame. I am guessing some type of pre-game or something.
It’s an interesting broadcast each week by the NOLA Saints network or something like that which Fox Sports picks up on Thursday nights.
