– Devwah Whaley: The big news over the weekend was that star 2016 running back Devwah Whaley (Beaumont, TX) made a return visit to Oklahoma. I had a chance to speak yesterday with Whaley about his trip to Norman.
First, Whaley reiterated his Top 5 which includes: Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas A&M, Texas & Georgia. In the past couple weeks Whaley has visited Georgia, Arkansas and, of course, Oklahoma. He has also visited both Texas and Texas A&M earlier this summer.
After speaking with the talented RB prospect, I get a sense the Sooners are one of the favorites, if not the favorite in Whaley’s recruitment. I say that because for a while I’ve felt this was a battle between OU and UT. And with the Horns having one of Whaley’s former teammates, PJ Locke, and, of course, being his in-state school there were two obvious advantages in Texas’ corner. Couple all that with the fact earlier in the summer Whaley’s visit to Austin seemed to slow the momentum many believed OU had built. The visit appeared to make enough of an impact, I actually though Texas had moved in front of Oklahoma. But after talking with Whaley, I don’t get that sense any longer.
Whaley made it very clear in saying that PJ Locke, or any friend/former teammate for that matter, would not effect his decision. I also asked where he felt his best opportunity was in terms playing time, traditionally an important factor for many a recruit. Whaley said he felt Arkansas gave him the best chance to play early, with Georgia and Oklahoma being just behind the Razorbacks in that respect. But he also noted that he understood competition is inevitable anywhere. However, I couldn’t help but note the schools among his Top 5 that he did not mention (i.e. Texas and Texas A&M).
I also asked Whaley which coaches he feels he has the best relationship with to which he said Jay Boulware (Oklahoma) and Thomas Brown (Georgia). Again, you can’t help but notice here who isn’t mentioned here.
Additionally, Whaley confirmed he will be taking official visits and said the schools that will definitely get official visits are Oklahoma and Georgia, with Arkansas possibility as well. Again, no mention of UT or TAMU. Now with those two schools obviously closer in proximity, he could attend a game at either without using an official visit. But again, I just noted that it kept with a pattern of our conversation.
Pretty clear the two schools that continually came up during our conversation were OU and Georgia. Therefore, it should obviously come as no surprise that his interest in the Bulldogs is very real. People don’t typically take a trip all the way out to Georgia, from Texas, on their own dime unless there is a sincere interest.
Finally, I asked Whaley about when he planned on making a commitment. He said the plan is to announce at the Under Armour All-America game in January. However, he did say in no uncertain terms, “I will make a silent commitment before I announce.” – (Super K)

Interesting stuff, Super K. I guess I never realized how sincere his interest in Georgia was. I suppose we will know whether he silently commits to us by the way Boulware pursues other RB’s between now and the UA game.
Can certainly understand the interest in GA. Pretty good history of RBs there, too.
No doubt, I just see a real financial hardship on families of Texas kids wanting to attend their child’s games when they go far away to school. If you want to play in the SEC, go to A&M where at least 6-8 regular season games will be close to home. I understand that this is not a over-riding issue with all recruits, but it is with some and hopefully could be a deciding factor with Whaley and his family.
What are the chances he already gave his silent commit? Given that he is really only mentioning two schools.
I would love to
see a post someday breaking down the Stoops brothers’ heyday of defenses. Like
what the scheme was and what made them such a dominant defense. Also, will the
scheme we run this year look like the scheme they ran from ’99 to ’03?
The problem was that thye were not facing spread offenses back then like they are today. I still believe that Mike, Cooks, and all will figure out how to slow it down. As we have heard our offense will run this year. That same offense is what has been giving our defense so much problems.
Is this guy as talented as any rb on the roster now? We are already loaded. He may be another Keith Ford
Im thinking they are selling him on the fact that Perine and Mixon will both likely declare for the draft early making him and Anderson the feature backs in 2017
He’s obviously a talented back, who may very well be as talented as any on our roster or the coaches wouldn’t be recruiting him as their sole recruit and also due to the fact that they won’t be trying to get another one this year if his recruitment falls through. He could be another Keith Ford but until/if he gets on campus and begins the process and actually sees the field we won’t know if he’s a Keith Ford or an actual contributor. The coaches interest, combined with recruiting rankings, combined with offers from practically every school in the country should be enough for us to feel comfortable with his recruitment and/or the possibility of him being our next big back. In other words, I don’t think anyone has any reason to think otherwise that he’s the real deal.
…and if was another Keith Ford? Ford was one of the top-rated backs out of hs and was set to do well at OU. Was the starting back until injured. Then losing his position and subsequently not attending to his grades got the better of him. A shame. Not that he would have held Perine off for long but don’t get the negative depiction of Ford.
I share your indignation – I think Ford was ranked as the 5th best running back in the country out of HS and was happy when we signed him. You know what they say about opinions though.
Keith Ford could play on Sundays if he quits fumbling
Great stuff K! Only at TFB!
I like hearing the silent commitment remark. Given OU’s “all in” approach to Whaley, we really need a silent commitment to wait till January. It helps that Whaley understands that.
Thank you sir! OP is the best article of the day
Sure would be nice to get a BOOM for my birthday today but the Whaley news is positive enough in its own right.
BOOMER!
Happy birthday!
Thanks!
Isn’t there still an open position on the OU coaching staff?
No.
I believe defensive QC is “open” .
coaching staff..no…if there was it would prob be filled by Viney
All three of this top 3 schools are excellent choices for him. However, JB landing him would be a coup for a first year RB coach taking over from a legend so I’ll following this one closely.
Anybody else
still have nightmares about the O-line in ’09 when we had to play a fullback
(Eldridge) at center? And later we had to put our AA LT (Williams) there? Oh
and we also had to start a tight end at right tackle….yeah hopefully we never
see depth issues like that again..It doesn’t sound like we’ll be seeing that
issue this year at least!
Yeah, those were dark times, but i’ve always had a soft spot for Eldridge because of what he was able to do. I think if he had been converted into an o-lineman he could have been a star.
Remember that bullet he caught from Sam for a td in 08 Bedlam? I was there and pretty close to that end zone. It was a really impressive catch. Bradford found him late open and threw a missile from about 4 yds away. Was always impressed he held on.
I hope depth wont be an issue. But the OL didnt get out of the summer unscathed. Dont know if it will ever come to light but there are some things going on that will shake up the OL before the fall.
such as?
tease
Seriously… Spill the beans
How about an update on the new uniforms we were hinted about like months ago?
I was able to see this kid at Texas Relays. Before his first race, he had a Texas hat on. Before the next race, he was warming up wearing OU headgear. I think he will be good at guarding his plans all season. I guess if we make a flurry of late RB offers, we know he’s not coming here.
What’s the story on Ath. Tyrell Alexander, OSU decommit from Lancaster..? Is OU involved at all?
Kish ain’t playin…
It’s that time of the year! #BoomerSooner http://t.co/3Dqk3Lg1BW
If I’m not mistaken, literally every OU assistant tweeted out this same video over the weekend.
They did. Was just pointing it out cuz that is probably Kish’s first tweet since NSD..
haha, very well could be
Super K, do you ever have any concern that the recruits you talk to are liable to express their responses to conform to what they think you’d like to hear? Not that it seems to have had a huge effect, because your intel has been great, but it seems like human nature would cause folks to want to please.
I think that’s a reasonable question, but I think one thing that stands out about TFB is that they don’t appear to be blatant homers about OU football. From my perspective, they seem to demonstrate to the player that while they may like OU and report on OU, their first priority is to “do the kid right”. They promote a lot of guys with the intent on helping them, even if they aren’t heading to OU. I think the recruits see that, but it’s definitely possible/likely that some would want to cater their answers to a guy that has been cool to them, so they want to make that guy happy.
sooner———I suspect most recruits learn quickly to say nice things to the local media when they travel to visit schools…..a lots of good things said about OU on the recruiting trail and guys not even including OU in their top 5 to 10 when it comes time to make a decision. So, YES, I do think recruits tell media what will please the supporters while actually thinking something else entirely………….
………………………………….I don’t think that recruits will routinely “think something else entirely.”……………….I was just asking Super K if he felt that the recruits, as might be expected, were inclined to conform the message to the person asking. Super K’s results would indicate that this is certainly not always the case, but I just wondered how he felt about it………………………….
(don’t know why, but my fingers were a bit heavy on the keyboard on this post, ———-keys kept repeatingggggg.)
Don’t you know there is a dot shortage? 🙂
What you did there………………….I see it
To those who’ve asked: Whaley told the UGA Rivals people that he’s already silently committed to a school, but won’t announce til January. Separate source pretty much confirmed it, and said it’s Oklahoma.
Same source said Caleb Kelly is already ours as well.
My understanding from him is that both are already silent commits.
Silent but Deadly
http://i.imgur.com/LNx1W9D.gif
Well per TFB is Chip leaves then Kelly leaves too
Viney will also be back. I’m not tech savvy enough to post it here, but I have a pic of his DM tweet to Caleb Kelly confirming it.
Best news of the season IMO. If you go to the tweet, left click and it should have an embedding link. Copy and paste that and it should propagate automatically
Someone (the source) sent me the pic, so I have no link. Just the pic.
First post in 6 months Jim? I hope this source is correct. If so more news needs to get out so we can get after other big time prospects.
yeah, massive login issues with the site. I thought my info was saved (which it was for a while). When it suddenly didn’t auto-log me in, I had no clue what my password was. I got lucky today on my password, so I’m good to go going forward.
To his credit, that source has been pretty damn accurate with his info, so I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt right now.
For what it’s worth Zack, I follow Jim’s comments on another board…..he doesn’t usually just spout BS.
I hope the guy is right about Kelly and Whaley. Although I’d rather land Kelly if we go 50-50
What’s Jims username on the other site?
all of which mean absolutely nothing unless the guy signs with OU next February. ‘silent’ or any other commitments are as good as the character of the guy making the declaration : in today’s world of HS athletes, one’s word is usually good till the next money man rounds the corner with a big wad of $100’s…….
OK, our SD Sky-is-falling post of the day, out of the way.
🙂
So there’s no reason to get upset about all these other guys that are committing elsewhere? Just want to confirm where I should direct my angst.
lol good one!
no…….getting upset isn’t going to change anything…
Meaning no chastising OU’s recruiters since these kids are fickle?
Absolutely right. Means jack squat until the ink is dry AND they’re on campus.
Pot meet kettle…….
Good lord I hope so!
Georgia may have the best stable of RB’s in college football. They’ll lose Marshall and maybe Chubb, but they’ll still have Michel and several other highly rated underclassmen. I’m skeptical that Whaley would receive early playing time there.
They also have the smallest OL in the SEC.
I’ll take OU’s RB’s over Georgia’s any day of the week
And you’d lose.
update added
From the article it sounds like he was an OSU lean all the way.
also hard to argue against a kid picking the defending national champs
Great read I must say as always had great notes. I as a die hard sooner fan don’t want to get my hopes up because of other commits such as xavier kelly and etc. We also believed he was heavily favored for the sooners but slipped from us unfortunately. If we get whaley it would probably be the best commitment since AD (thats just my opinion)
C.A. …………….I find it interesting a top flight RB would want to play in LR’s offensive scheme ( emphasis on passing the ball )……..maybe the guy is reminiscent of Quinton Griffin ??
They ran a lot in the Spring game…Lincoln said multiple times they need to run the ball. There’s no guarantee we’re going to throw the ball 80% of the time.
ok.
Wow Quinton Griffin is a great reference….but AD also played in a similar offense also and was very successful just as Quinton Griffin. I believe Demarco Murray played under the same offense also when we set the record for points that year. But it was a little more under center during Demarco Murray’s era. So I’m more than sure they used that as a major pitch towards Whaley.
Yup same style offense and we had two 1,000 yard rushers with Brown and Murray. Lincoln runs the ball, all you have to do is look at his stats. This isn’t a Mike Leach offense
good comparisons….
I can just hear your private mantra
“I hope he doesnt commit to OU”
I hope he doesnt commit to OU”
“I hope he doesnt commit to OU”
( I know you’ll deny Mr Dale but we all know its true )
the guy should attend whichever college makes him most comfortable. OU-great; somewhere else-ok, too.
No denial of mantra….noted.
that was your mantra, not mine…….the guy should go where he is happiest and where his post-football college degree will allow him to make a living…..
By everything you post you live and die to find negative things to say about OU. I think that can be confirmed by approximately 99.284% of this board.
Hence your mantra.
FTM…….we have differing viewpoints. what you consider negativity, I consider realism….its okay to disagree. all of us want OU to win every game and a NC every year.. maybe sometime soon.
We sure do have different viewpoints. Even though the last few years havent been what we would all like to see, OUs record over those years has still been top 10 in the country and almost every other school would love to be where we are right now other than a select few.
Please dont try to humor us with your “realism”. Your negative about every aspect of OU on a constant basis.
Personally I dont for a minute believe you’re an OU fan just a troll but if you are an OU fan then that would be even worse.
Id hate to live my life going around being a glass 1/8th full kind of guy.
anybody read the D.O. article about the ‘state of the conference” In yesterday’s paper ? It reinforced what many have said. DEMOGRAPHICS, LOCATion, & CONFERENCE PERCEPTION as three of the reasons for the downturn in quality of talent in the league….for the unbelievers, just wait till tOSU comes to Norman in 2016. Be forewarned that tOSU is likely to destroy OU by a larger margin than ND did in the 1996 visit to Norman ( 38-0)….that ND team featured Nick Eddy, Jack Snow, Terry hanratty, and a bunch of quality defenders… tOSU is similarly loaded and with a coach as good or better than Ara Parseghian……..
Ok, so I’ll take OU +38….. How much would you like the wager to be????
I don’t gamble since I don’t have the money to spend on gambling ventures…just saying the talent level difference is of the magnitude a beatdown of epic proportions is very possible if not likely…..
Put your money where your mouth is… I’ll bet OU does better than you think
one can only hope……..I’m thinking along the lines of ‘the Christians vs the Lions’ in the Coliseum type of mismatch………but we’ll see…..
Yes I agree. Gotta love a betting man, though. Especially the guy who won like $470,000 on a 50cent bet
yep, me too…..never been that lucky when wagering money…..nice payday……………………
tOSU played close games vs teams that dont have anywhere near OUR talent level, let alone theirs.
They are going to lose a lot of guys off the 2015 team, they will have a lot of talent, but not a ton of experience, coming into the 2016 game.
Whoa, so just go ahead and give up on 2016?
Let me write that down in my schedule planner.
you might want to circle that date when the Buckeyes stroll into Owen Stadium…
If OU is as bad as you say, they wouldve lost to KU and ISU
KU & ISU are pretty bad… I think OU will beat both—-must beat both—to have a winning record in 2015….otherwise, its going to be a LONG, LONG season……..
So I need to mark 2015 off too?
not at all !!!! something less than 11-1 and more than 6-6…….should be an interesting season for players and coaches……..
Lots of questions at QB, OL, and DB for sure. 10-2 isnt out of the question though 8-4 or 9-3 is more likely
So since your money isn’t right would you like to make a friendly 6 month ban from posting on here bet?
naw…..enjoy discussing OU football too much…..both of us will have to cheer / groan according to the fortunes of the team….we’ll want to discuss it , don’t you think ?
The problem is you don’t discuss OU football. You come on here and tell us how great other conferences are, how great other teams are and that the best we can look forward to is a 6-6 record. That’s crazy talk. Even in the 90’s a 6-6 record was stupid talk. Did they happen? sure but this team is no where near as bad as the 90’s your negativity and constant bashing make this board UN-enjoyable for the OU fans that are excited about this season. SO QUIT
did you read the extensive article on the conference in yesterday’s D.O. ? I’ve said nothing that wasn’t mentioned in a 10-yr survey of the major conferences…..and YES, 6-6 is as possible as 11-1 until a bunch of guys on scholarship prove themselves. a 2014 team that should have won 10-11 games lost 5——–so————YES, a more inexperienced team certainly has the capability to lose 5 or more…and Boomer 79, I ‘m not trying to be negative–just realistic…if they prove me wrong-GREAT !!! I’ll admit I sold them short…
How are we more inexperienced. We return basically everyone on D and other than the tackles on O. ..Confused
6-6 isn’t realistic, it would be catastrophic. Realistic is 8-10 wins. Optimistic is 11-13 wins. 6-6 a is worst case, injury riddled nightmare.
Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium
Owen Field
Owen Stadium?!?!?! And you call yourself an Sooner fan???
That’s not like earth shattering news. The top athletes don’t go to Norman Oklahoma for the nothing other than, play for championships and go to the pros (no offense to the folks out in Norman). And of course OSU is stacked, I dont know about it being a shut out though, how about we get through this year first.
Who wrote it?
Answer that and you’ll know whether or not I read it.
esco……when did the tfbou site first appear…..thxs
Not entirely sure. I wasn’t here when the site first launched.
Don’t recall exactly…better to ask SuperK. I followed him over from the Scout board when he 1st got involved with putting TFB together…maybe 2 years ago??
’66 ou/nd game…….with my father in the north endzone……roof caved in after liggins got hurt………..outstanding nd team, played the famous 10-10 tie with mich st later that yr……….worry about tosu next yr, things can change
as good as ND was that year, Mich st was as good and should have beat ND . MSU coach, Duffy Dougherty, took some flak for his game management , too…interestingly enough, MSU cratered as a program after then and ND continued to prosper…the turning of 2 programs hinged on a single game…
Dale, I do not understand your interest as a so called Sooner fan to always pump gloom? We as fans understand that OU is in trouble if things do not change. But you act like OU has no talent what so ever. OU finished in the top 10 in recruiting last year base don stars per player.
Yes OSU is loaded but they are also the only school in a rich recruiting State as well. Much like Texas but with the added value of no other shoo being there.
Dale, I am convinced you are either a troll or you are Mike Gundy.
shhh……..don’t want Cale to find out !!!!!
What a stupid post. OSU isn’t going to destroy OU “by a wide margin” whatsoever. Just last season, “the conference perception” was that the BIG 10 was the worst conference in the country and still falling, and the articles were citing “demographics cuz people were leaving the midwest in droves” and other assorted nonsense. You conference crybabies are silly. This conference has nothing to do with anything. OUs problems are culture related. Bobs silly Spurrier work/life culture is his achilles. Period.
In what way are the demographics and location of tOSU an advantage? A dying, rustbelt town in the midst of nowhere with 9 month winters? A conference that contains tOSU and Michigan State and….and…..and, well Spartie’s pretty stout, damnit!
But, I should have known when your first sentence contained the D.O. and your last Ara Parseghian and you were attempting subtle humor.
update added
yep, Isaiah Pryor to tOSU………….one of OU’s top DB recruits. again, going to a higher profile conference and to a team that gets it done on the field……
Up until the conference championship game, most commentators thought their conference was dragging tOSU down, because it wasn’t much better than the ACC.
tOSU proved a lot of people wrong and has the #1 recruiting class for 2016 ( to date ) ……Meyer may be anything but ethical but he can recruit talent….that program is loaded the next 4-5 yrs….
tOSU isn’t the whole conference.
That is true of Ohio St, but there are 14 teams in the conference. A couple of teams in th B1G have been recruiting decent the last few years, but nothing more than the Big XII has.
That being said, winning the title game and coaching changes have had a positive effect on the conference recruiting as a whole, but again (outside of Ohio St), they really aren’t not doing anything that far ahead of the Big XII.
Well, we get OSU next year at Norman. We’ll see how they fair on the road. They struggled in many games last year. Once you are in the playoff anything can happen just as in baseball. Not so sure they were the best or most consistent team.
You realize you could literally play this game three times a day. OU will get 18-23 kids and miss out on close to 400. So should we look forward to your drivel over every recruit over the next 8 months? What do you expect OU to finish in recruiting rankings?
OU is ranked # 71 or below in Rivals….given the smaller class size ( less than 20 ) and the quality committed so far, I think somewhere between 35-50 ………
Friendly 6 month ban wager that OU finishes inside the top 15. If i’m wrong I wont post till this time next year your wrong same goes for you?
Boomer79………I enjoy reading your comments too much to see you have to sit out 6 LONG months.. You can thank me later for not taking you up on your offer….
Wish I could say the same about you. When was the last OU game you went too?
OU-OSU last November…….
I can confirm that Stephen Dale was at the OU-OSU game. I actually recall seeing him being the one fan in an OU Sweatshirt who stood up and cheered as OSU was running back the game tying re-punt.
So you pay to see the bottom feeding, suck A** team? If you truly feel the way you do about the program, why spend money on watching them. If you say your a supporter then I call bull**** because I am a supporter I have been a season ticket holder since 94 and I have lowered expectations but I do not hate the program as much as you do. Also, I coach football (youth) and what we saw last year was a direct representation of the offensive coordinator. Slow, no sense of urgency, second guessing, over thinking and no accountability(blaming players) that trickled down through the team. I GUARANTEE that confidence will be back this year with TK9 and the offense will click. the defense was put in some terrible places last year.
Boomer79….absolutely agree with your assessment of the 2014 team.. Hopefully OU will win every game this fall by 2-3 td’s and put a smile on everybodies face…..While no longer a season-long ticket holder due to health issues, I did, in fact, purchase 2 tickets to the game ,and , YES, I’ve been attending somewhat regularly since being a student in the very early 1960’s……seen a lot of success as well as downtimes with Gomer, Gary, Howard, john…..maybe its OU turn to have more success……I’m ready for one more long run of success before I’m too old to climb the steps….
Who cares about rankings. And OU will take probably 20-22 kids regardless of what the numbers are now. Still possibility of transfers and players leaving early. I believe rankings only consider a teams top 20 commits
I believe that is right.
Rankings matter look at the past few champions and see where they ranked the years before you will notice a trend
I will say this, OU likes to find those diamond in the rough players and turn them into elite guys. But you have to land some top recruits each year to be able to sustain that type of philosophy.
KJ————yep. and more ‘blue chips’ than ‘diamonds in the rough’ types …..with the sophistication of coaches across America and the volumes of information gathered on guys from the 7th & 8th grades thru HS, the ‘diamonds in the rough’ types are getting fewer and fewer….it generally comes down to a program missing on several guys at a position of need before taking a ‘diamond in the rough’ to fill the spot——something OU is having to do more of than in times past…..
Agree.
Okay, I’ll bite. Considering that we typically finish somewhere between 10-20, I’ll figure right about in that range.
We have eight months to go and:
1. Kids can change their commitments.
2. A couple of highly ranked recruits can go your way and skew the ranking of the entire class.
3. Kids who are not as highly ranked now can have stellar senior seasons and then commit to us.
4. Sadly, current players can drop out due to injury, burn out or unexpectedly declaring for the Neffel, increasing class size and changing the calculus of potential recruits.
Are the coaches ‘working it’? It seems so. Are we doing stuff to improve the overall experience of the players (facilities, coaching, on-field performance)? It seems so.
The chips are going to fall where they will. Can’t waste too much time worrying. Plan the work/work the plan.
It’s early dummy. Maybe there should be a moratorium on you talking about subjects you know little about. Like recruiting habits of OU under BStoops. When has OU every got recruits early? Know your Sooner stuff before embarrassing yourself, sir.
They just won the national title and they’ll get the buzz that comes with it. Conference has nothing to do with it. The BIG XII will be a better conference than the BIG 10 by far this year. You’re a fool.
DC/AZ ……wish you had a chance to read the Daily Oklahoman’s extended article covering the past 10 yrs of this conference….might provide you with another perspective……
I read the entire article and the person who wrote it is one of the biggest clowns in sports journalism. The BIG XII is a better conference than either the BIG 10 OR the ACC BY FAR, and you’re whining. FSU and tOSU recruit just fine. It’s work ethic related, not conference related.
DC/AZ…………..so you disagree with the article or just don’t like Tramel ?
Both. If you REALLY want to know the source of OUs problems, you need to think bigger than Tramel and his amateur silliness. It’s culture related. The culture at OU is the culture that Bob was groomed in. He was groomed by Steve Spurrier. Look at the similarities in career accomplishments and career trajectory. Spurrier has won ONE NT but otherwise fielded very competitive teams. He’s famous for his “there’s more to life than football” culture which is where Stoops was groomed, and that’s the culture we have here. From taking vacations mid-season, to his laid-back coaching style, to his nepotism, Bob Stoops is a Spurrier clone. Our staff gets outworked. Period.
If you REALLY want to read an article that I believe accidentally points out OUs problems, read this ESPN article on Spurrier and then compare Stoops and Spurrier. You’ll see a mirror image straight down the line, and that includes the current results.

Nailed it DC
I actually like Tramel, (as a person but he seems incredible out of the loop when it comes to the modern day game) but IMO conferences have very little to do with an individual teams success (as long as they are a P5 conference). If that was the case, FSU and Ohio ST would never have won the NC the last two years. I do think it makes it tougher to turn a program around though that hasn’t really hurt TCU or Baylor. OU has an OU problem first and foremost but even then the cupboard isn’t bare. They have more talent on the team from recent recruiting than at least 80-90% of all FBS teams (something people tend to overlook). That isn’t my opinion, that is based on the recruiting rankings. There is something missing from taking the program back to the elite level again, but they are hardly in the same breath as a middle pack team.
I agree with your post on the points and basics, only disagree with liking Tramel. He is (IMNSHO) irrelevant. I feel he tries to stir the pot simply to sell and he basically just annoys me to look at. I don’t necessarily need a local jounalist to be a complete homer, but always looking at the downside of every decision and event tends to really piss me off. Otherwise great post, please forgive my little rant.
Schools like Florida St, Auburn, and LSU also offered Pryor. By your definition I guess they dont get it done on the field either right?
Solid logic there.
FTM…………..you just made my point. appreciate it.
SD……I just unmade you’re point.
Reading comprehension is our friend.
Your negativity about OU is a really nasty cologne. Please feel free to not be so negative about…everything OU.

Please pray for my health in the immediate future…….I’m re-watching the Clemson game…..
you must really be ill to watch THAT game again !
lets put it this way, for all the news about how surprising ou will be this year.. i have to go back to how they ended the season before… Did the same thing the year before when we, gasp, beat alabama!
hear you………take something for nightmares ( Sominex, a pt of whiskey, something strong, and you should be okay in the morning….
Do yourself a favor.. DVR the Sooner Football 2000 episodes that FSOklahoma has been replaying recently..
BS and I are re-watching the Bama game. Not together, but at the same time.
Hey, we went 8-5 last year, but what a lot of people don’t realize is we beat Alabama in the Sugar Bowl 2 years ago. 🙂
“We’re only a season removed from beating….”
I’m worried about the health of your loved ones around you… I think that game coincided with a 1500% spike in domestic violence in the State of Oklahoma that night. LOL
definitely have to watch it alone… even put the dogs outside to save them!
I had to miss the game when it originally aired…haven’t had the guts to watch it yet.
Just don’t do it. Imagine everything you hated about the season packed into the first half of the game.
That’s what I feared…thanks for the warning.
It’s illegal to drink and drive. Please stop.
I hope Viney stays on as a full time staff, primarily for his recruiting. He’s pretty active on twitter and seems to have a good rapport with recruits. He’s a younger guy who can probably relate to the recruits well. I think he has the potential to be a good recruiter.
KJ……………..agree 100%…………….there’s several on the current OU staff that could be jettisoned to keep Viney……….
if he doesn’t stay, look for him to show up in the PAC 12. Would love to keep him.
So what do you all think we are getting in Austin Roberts and rumors that Dalton Wood enrolled at Oklahoma. It’s going to be hard for Oklahoma to pull kids from Ohio State when Urban Meyer will pay them.
We established last week, I think, there is nothing to the Dalton Wood “rumor.”
John Brannon looks like a good LB, but we need some for 2016 class too.
This Brannon kid doesn’t seem like the biggest or fastest athlete, but he’s got good instincts, fights through the traffic well and wraps up nicely. Can’t go wrong with a kid who isnt afraid to fill the gaps on run plays.
I wasn’t impressed but hey I’m not the LB coach. He ran around some blocks, didn’t seem to have much thump, and looked a little too stiff.
Yeah he doesnt have that “woah”….but he’s only in 10th grade, maybe he’ll develop well by the time he’s senior.
well built kid for his age. doesn’t look comfortable moving in space. change of direction isn’t good either (heavy footed)…hey like I said I’m not the LB coach. Reminds me of the young man from Edmond memorial years back that turned into a FB.
Does definitely looks more like a FB at this point.
152ndest
…and a participation ribbon. Everybody’s a winner at TFB! ; )
I get to quarterback next week, too, right? It wouldn’t be fair if everybody didn’t get a chance to play the best positions regardless of talent… I might grow up with low self-esteem if I didn’t have everything handed to me without having to earn it.
Wow…gotta wade through some big piles of SD to get to the good stuff today. Just no point to all of the angst. We all want OU rated in the top 10 in recruiting right now with a bunch a 4*s and a sprinkling of 5*s. I’m going to wait and see how football season plays out, not recruiting season. Don’t care a thing about winning the Mack Brown Trophy.
I feel bad for responding to him. No good comes of it. The only thoughts that he seems to express boil down to “Everyone else is the greatest and OU is just doomed to fail.” And no amount of arguing will ever change his mind.
Probably one of the guys that wanted Bob Stoops fired after the loss to OSU in ’01
I mean this: I’m seriously going to pray for him. He seems to be lacking mental stability.
Guys, he’s an OSU fan trolling. That’s why he knows so much OU football caused he’s had to endure it his whole life. Next time SD writes, look at what he says and think of that coming out of an OSU fan.
That would explain his claimed appearance at the OU/Osu game…rooting for aggie..’cause he sure isn’t an OU fan.
Same here, as soon as I responded I was asking my self why did I bother?
He-who-must-not-be-named has come back with too much rhetoric following a prolonged absence. I wish he would go away. He’s pathetic. That man has some serious issues.
I took a look at the thread when I had some time this afternoon and saw where he had hijacked the thread and just closed the window.
Not only is he a waste of bandwidth, it disappoints me that so many here will actually engage with him.
See my comment above. 🙂
I did.
Jordan lets his uncle sleep on the couch.
Give me :

with the 6 commits we already have, 23 in total? I have a hard time seeing how we have enough space. But perhaps I’m missing something.
Based off this chart http://www.scout.com/a.z?s=146&p=9&c=16&yr=2015 we only have 67 scholorship players with 13 graduating at the end of the season. Unless I am reading it wrong we could take up to 30.
The last I saw, we had 80 on scholarship, with 13 leaving after this year. That would leave 18 spots. I know there is attrition, and maybe 23 is possible, but…..
Your chart only shows the 6 who enrolled early from the incoming class. We signed 26 (including two late signees), less Dalton Wood, for 25. That would put our scholarship total up to 86, per your chart. I know that is high. So I’m more comfortable with the 80 or so number. Graduate 13. That leaves 18 spots. Add another 5 for attrition and we could get to your 23. Maybe even 25. But no way 30.
No look at the chart, left side has the 2015 class that is graduating. (13) top left corner has this years graduating class out to 2019 which was last years recruiting class that number is 67. If you go back over the last 5 years and look on those charts only about half the recruiting classes made it to campus or are still here. Not to mention we have lost what 6-7 players since the end of football that transferred to other schools. Ford, mcnamara, hanson, thomas,….Can’t think of the other ones. Anyway the last four seasons I’ve used this chart and the number that it had in that upper left corner was what we ended up signing. So 67 -13 equals 54 meaning 31 recruits. But who really knows the number of kids we can recruit??
No, look for the incoming class in all the appropriate columns. Only the early enrollees are there. No DeBerry. No McGinnis. No AD Miller. The chart is missing 18 names. Look at the last column. Only 3 names, Anderson, Evans, and Humphrey. Where are all the rest of the incoming freshmen? They are not there. The chart is missing 18 names. The chart is not up to date.
Your right. Didn’t account for them. I also see names on that list that are gone. I stand corrected
I believe they get an offer from 2015 as well, if Dalton Wood does not report for the fall. That scholarship should get added to next year I think.
Tyrie Cleveland agrees with this list.
Does Brannon have an offer? He looks good to me, especially for a Soph. See the chest on that kid? Definitely won’t be lacking upper body strength.
He does not
Good thing he’s not an OKPrep. This place would be unbearable. 😉
Good one.
I see what you did there.
Whaley, did you get a silent ring on your phone since it’s a silent commit?
;-).
On a real note when can we expect a boom? Been needing one for awhile
There was an earthquake today in the OKC metro.
reported 2, felt 1 pretty good one
You should move to the East side…..it’s quiet over here. 🙂
east side of okc?
LOL no, the side of the state where dirt is brown and the ground doesn’t shake very hard.
I see, perhaps the way things are shakin’ you’re time is coming……..it is a strange phenomenon……had a few when I lived in ntx and probably monthly, at least, back here in okc……..
Isn’t there a known fault line running from Kansas through central OK and into Tx? I’m no expert but I thought I had seen that on a map at one time.
I’ve heard the same thing……..googled for okla faultline maps and you get quite a bit but most pretty technical looking……..ch 9 in okc keeps daily track you might find interesting…..
I missed both…not sure how.
I felt it in sapulpa.
I’ve posted something like this before, but here’s the pitch to all LB recruits. I’ll spell it out in the Tweetbook-speak to make it easy on our coaches:
#OU has the most #ButkusAward winners at four. Come get number six (after #EricStriker gets number five). #Boomer #LBU #NumbersDontLie
I’m sold!! Put me in Coach!
LOL! I remember watching this movie for the first time and losing it on that scene. Comedy gold.
Exactly, and a Running Back like Whaley probably feels the same. When was the last great running back to come out of Texas? Most of them are better after they get to the NFL. (Preist Holmes, Jamall Charles) Really they haven’t had a running back consistently show great since Ricky Williams. Texas A&M? OU and Georgia have a long history of consistently producing great backs. And with Perine and Mixon the tradition continues.
9 DAYS TILL CAMP!!

I like Brannon’s film.. he makes his way through traffic with minimal effort & stops the ball carrier on contact..
His video was from his sophomore year. With natural growth, training and good coaching he could be amazing.
I completely agree but the only thing that concerned me a little is that there were only two highlights of him defending the pass and in this league you need to know how to play pass coverage. but I do love his ability to drop ball carriers as a sophomore and get through traffic.
Twitter pic of Kelly today. TIFWIW
OU visor and crimson shorts. He’s all OU
Grillin’ in OU gear. I like it. Hopefully he didn’t tweet out different versions for different schools. Really need a guy like him along with Kendall on social media working other recruits.
you know he is grilling longhorn!
I’ll have to keep an eye on his Twitter later in the season. Things can change quickly in recruiting so if he’s pro OU into December then I’ll feel good about landing him.
Edit: I would feel better. I already feel like we will land him.
Silent commit
Doesn’t necessarily mean anything with all the free swag they get but I can’t say I’m unhappy to see this!

Bryce is going to Oregon, just thought I’d say it so that the crying can start now. I dont want to get on here on friday and all I see is a bunch of babies crying because we lost Bryce to Oregon
We never had him.. He’s been pro Oregon since the beginning.. If we were to get him.. Oregon would’ve lost him…
Been working out in the heat all day, come in to catch up and lost 20 minutes of my life reading SD vs. the board comments. 🙂 Let’s get some good stuff rolling here! Oh, and has Whaley committed yet?
It appears he has a fear of commitment. 🙂
Cause he’s a man, even if under forty
😉
7-31 will be a dissapointing day
Not for me, hope a kids choice to attend college won’t disappoint too many. We should be happy for the kid no matter where he goes, it’s a wonderful opportunity. Hope everybody has a great week!
Cue S.Dale 7/31/15, told y’all kids just don’t want to come to OU.
I too will miss July
I know my damn birthday month is already over! So DISappointing.

Looks like we can strike Lampkin off the list too if this is accurate.
http://collegesportsblog.dallasnews.com/2015/07/report-texas-defensive-tackle-signee-duvonta-lampkin-loi-appeal-denied.html/
I hope commits are watching this situation and realizing how UT is treating this kid. Regardless of if he came to OU or not this is just not right to deny a kid a D1 opportunity because your pissed.
Shades of Kliff Dingleberry.
It seems odd he would even have to appeal, he isn’t eligible to enroll by Texsa’s own rules so his LOI should just be null and void.
I didn’t really care if he came to OU, just hate to see a kid get dumped on.
I think the issue is that UT has to officially deny admission before the LOI goes away. And they apparently intend to hold that decision until the last possible minute. You are free to speculate as to why they would act in such a manner. Frankly, neither ‘side’ in this comes out looking very good. At best, gross negligence all around. At worst, illicit promises that weren’t delivered upon.
The young man probably has as much potential as he ever did; but, he’s certainly not made his road any easier.
Well, maybe.
The timing becomes tricky, but once he is officially denied enrollment, it’s my understanding that his LOI legally never happened.
That might be too late to get into classes at OU and thus be eligible. But, could he enroll without connection to the athletic dept, pay a minimum up front and wait for the LOI to evaporate?
Would be a bit sweaty, but who knows?
It isn’t, accurate.
I hope you’re right Jordan. Could you elaborate on that?
The newest OU fan here in Pickerington Ohio. Her OU cheerleading outfit just got ordered. She was born Sunday night. .
Never too early!
Nope. She wasn’t 2 minutes old and I started browsing for OU clothes for her.
OUtstanding!
Congratulations to you and your young family. Be sure and tell Momma she done good.
Thank you very much. I will. Momma was a tOsu fan until I met her. Now she’s everything OU.
You married a wise woman.
Yes. She was headed down a dreaded path, but with a little push from me he wised up and righted her ship.
Congratulations!!! She have siblings??
She does. She has an 8 and 5 year old brothers.
Congrat’s and be sure to teach her the difference between crimson and red. 🙂
And the difference between creme and white.
It’s a fine line my friend.
I’ve known All Conference players at OU who didn’t know the difference.
Oh she’ll know. If not by me her brothers are well versed in everything OU.
You da good daddy!
I try.
And to hate the color orange. Especially orange with black.
The only orange she’ll know is the orange she regurgitates after a good burping. And the black will be her stool. So she’ll naturally hate it.
Congratulations
Thank you very much
You’re welcome man, your first?
No sir. Actually 3rd. My first girl though. I have 2 boys one is 8 the other is 5.
Daughter’s hold a special place in a Dads heart. I know mine does. Congrats again!
Yeah they do. I tried to play the big tough Marine before she came, now I’m as soft as a cupcake for her.
Congrats, Devil Dog!
Thank you.
Why does every “Stephen” on here have to give others a bad name? I’m going to have to change my name on here to remove any chances of association.
You’re on thin ice here mister…..better tread softly. 🙂
…..OU will never land another recruit ever.
Anything but “Ray”. Those guys are just silly.
You can call me Ray or you can call me Jay, just don’t call me Shirley. 😉
Oh, Hi Ray!!!
:-0
…

I thought everyone loved Ray?
I’m like your first beer…..acquired.
I can’t remember that one, too many since then, many more to come.
You’re name is good here.
You may have some…eclectic tastes in graphics, but your perceptions will never be confused with that a&&-clown.
Better?
Change it back dammit….I don’t know you anymore.
Yeah, I don’t have that picture anymore. That hard drive is dead and I don’t know how to use the Google.
Try duckduckgo.

Unfortunately, my university is very much a big time performing arts and dance school. I would never hear the end of it if I endorsed this. The halftime show is bigger than the game to them.
You can transfer…..but you might have to sit out a year. 🙂
I have shoulder fatigue…
Hey, I know that dance move!
I’ve heard of the “stank leg” dance move, must be a “stank shoulder” now.
LOL!!!
Can’t fool me, those fancy prancers would love it.
Who are you…who-who..who-who?
With new renovations, I really hope OU adds in a media room like TAMU and OSU have for recruits to get their pictures taken and what now. Seems like that is going to be a trend very soon.

Edit: This post includes a picture example for better understanding, refresh if you can’t see. Those in the pic include Anthony Hines, Eno Benjamin, and Jack Anderson
The back drop color is all wrong.
Are they majoring in “weather man”?
Just saw Arthur McGinnia ran a 4.47. That’s a big man that can move! And also saw deberry is up to 245 or something like that. Monsters that are going to be getting on the field.
Dang!
Whether hand timed or not, that is flat gittin’it.
https://twitter.com/amg_arthur/status/625825687316889600
Arthur is built like a tank. Saw him just the other week running errands.
Saw that quote, too. Got the impression that was his best time and maybe before he gained more weight. Still…say he’s consistently hitting around the 4.55 mark…I’ll take it. Hulk vs Optimus P…ooohhhh…
Yeah I took it as he’s been clocked at 447 before…like it was his best time…just didn’t say when that time was…could have been recent but not sure
Regardless. 4.5 is fast. Especially a big dude. I played baseball but we ran 60’s and I ran a 6.9 best which is equivalent to a 4.6 and that was considered fast. Given I was only 5’6″ and 140 pounds.
I’m guessing youngquist to Oregon, just like he said he would and then lots of gnashing of teeth over how we “lost” him. another day sos.
I wouldn’t think too much gnashing. Most have expected him to pick Oregon for quite some time. Well….the rational ones expect Oregon.
Heh, it’s that rational thing that you talk about; that’s the conundrum.
Coach Warren on 247 is a pretty rational guy and he picked OU within the last week. Not saying he is committing to OU, but there is a chance.
I would consider it a borderline major miracle if he flips to OU. Had Kelly to the mix, and Kish will have solidified his job for a couple years easy.
I meant “add Kelly”, not “had”
