– JJ Givens: This past week Oklahoma offered 2016 safety JJ Givens (6’1″ 165 – Mechanicsville, VA), who holds a number of offers including from both high major in-state schools, Virginia and Virginia Tech. So you might wonder why OU would think they could go all the way to Mechanicsville and pull a talented defensive back out of his home state. Some of you may recognize the name of the city Givens hails from because he is a teammate of 2015 OU signee, Ricky DeBerry. In fact when I asked Givens if he was close to Deberry he said, “that’s my boy.”
Givens told me Kerry Cooks is the coach that made the offer and the Virginia product made no bones about his interest in the Sooners when we spoke. He said without any equivocation, “I’ll definitely be in (visiting OU) this summer.” It doesn’t sound like staying in-state is a necessity for Givens as he tells me that right now, he’s actually closest with the Wake Forest and Arizona State staffs. – (Super K)
– Kellen Diesch: Most of you know by now that 2016 OT & OU offer Kellen Diesch (6’7″ 272 – Trophy Club, TX) has been high on the Sooners for some time. Diesch holds offers from Arkansas, Baylor, Texas, Texas A&M and a number of others, but just so happens to be a native of Norman. In fact, a few weeks back Diesch told Rivals’ Jason Howell that he grew up an OU fan.
A source told us recently there is a lot of optimism inside the program the Sooners may be able to land Diesch’s commitment sometime in the near future. – (Super K)
– Tre Jackson: Last night one of my favorite 2016 CBs, Malik Antoine (5’11” 182 – Baton Rouge, LA), committed to Stanford. It just so happens that another very talented corner plays opposite Antoine and his name is Tre Jackson (5’10” 178 – Baton Rouge, LA). And while he may not be the longest, he is ultra athletic. Jackson posted some of the best SPARQ times at one of the recent regional Opening events, running a 4.49 40 laser time and jumping a nearly 41-inch vertical.
Jackson tells me Kerry Cooks has been in touch with him almost everyday. He also said that Cooks is planning on making it down to Baton Rouge to see him this spring. – (Super K)
– Hezekiah Jones: Oklahoma extended an offer yesterday to star 2017 WR Hezekiah Jones (5’11” 171 – Stafford, TX), who already holds a number of offers from schools like Baylor and Texas A&M. Jones tells me Dennis Simmons dropped to see him and make the offer in-person. Jones also said he will make the trip up to Norman for a visit later this summer. Jones is the type of prolific wide receiver OU will be looking for in this new offense to really stress defenses. – (Super K)
– Tramonda Moore: Alex recently sent me film on an interesting OK Preps 2016 OL/DL named Tramonda Moore (6’6″ 330 – Oklahoma City, OK) out of John Marshall High School. Moore is a mammoth of a human being standing and, like a lot of Oklahoma kids, is a bit raw but clearly has the type of size and athleticism you simply can’t teach. We spoke with Moore at length last night, who said he’s been quietly getting some attention from several D-I programs. Apparently, TCU has been communicating with him and recently came by for a visit. Moore also told me that some of the Houston staff will be by to see him today.
Next week I hope to write about why OK Preps players like Moore, and the recent influx of D-I programs mining the state of Oklahoma, are critical to establishing a deeper and more developed home grown talent base for in-state programs like OU. Moore, like LaRon Stokes, Luther Harris, AJ Parker, Rowdy Frederick, Kyle Mayberry and many others are examples of the serious physical talent that exists in Oklahoma that needs to start being developed in order to make the recruiting process easier all those involved. – (Super K)
– Levi Draper & Marcus Mays: Speaking of OK Preps talent, two 2017 athletes that are picking up a lot of buzz on the recruiting trail are LB Levi Draper and DB Marcus Mays. Alex caught up with Mays’ father after his recent visit to Ok State where they were told that Mays can expect an offer from OSU this spring. Texas Tech also came by to visit Mays this week, and we are told they’re expecting OU to visit him in-person this spring as well.
Draper added to SMU, Tulsa and Arkansas State to his Lousiville offer and is beginning to get serious interest from Clemson, Alabama, UCLA, Stanford and others. We caught up with Draper after he was visited by Clemson earlier this week, who told the Collinsville product he can expect an offer later this summer. Draper also has plans to attend an Alabama camp at the end of May and a Stanford Jr. Day on June 17th. – (Brandon & Super K)
– Tyler Brown: Just a reminder the 2016 Lexington (OK) offensive lineman will be in Norman again today for a second visit in as many weeks. An official offer from the Sooners could very well come as the attention surrounding Brown is quickly starting to pick up.
– Armunz Mathews: We have seen Kerry Cooks extending a number of offers this past week up-and-down the east coast. And while 2016 ATH Armunz Mathews (5’10” 196 – Tallahassee, FL) does not yet hold an offer from OU, that could very well be on the verge of changing. Mathews told TFB that Cooks has been in contact recently and plans to show his film to the OU staff when they get back on campus from their current eval trips. Cooks said if the rest of the staff like what they see, he’d be calling to officially make the offer.
But the Sooners certainly won’t be his first ‘big name’ offer. Mathews already holds offers from LSU, Alabama, Wisconsin & Utah just to name a few. However, Tallahassee product does not currently hold an offer from any of the in-state schools.
One item of note we found of interest in speaking with Mathews was the fact he fashions himself something of an OU fan. How, you ask? Well, he was in attendance the day OU beat Florida State back in 2011. And that game has stuck with him over the years. He mentioned the ESPN ’30 for 30′ films that have featured the OU program which have also furthered his interest in the Sooners. Mathews tells us he’s planning to visit OU this June with his father, which will be one of several schools they’re planning to see on this particular trip. Based on our conversation, I’d expect if OU does go ahead with the offer the Sooners will quickly become one of Mathews’ top schools. As to where things go from there we’ll simply have to wait and see. – (Brandon)
– UPDATE (Fri., 12:56 pm): Sooners make new 2016 OL offer to Michael Eletise (6’4″ 302 – Honolulu, HI).
– UPDATE (Fri., 9:05 pm): Sooners 2016 RB offer and one of their two supposed top targets, Abdul Adams, has committed to Michigan State.
– UPDATE (1:30 pm): I have been informed by someone close to 2016 CB Jared Mayden and his brother, 2018 QB Jalen Mayden, that both were in Norman today spending time with coach Stoops. With Mayden’s decision approaching (in July) and with most assuming that he would not make a return trip to Norman, this sounds like positive news. – (Alex)
– UPDATE (8:34 pm): Tyler JUCO WR, Ryan Parker tells Brandon that he has committed to the Sooners.

Gotta do it. First
You mean ‘second?’

Nice little piece on Austin Kendall
Is it just me of does Austin Kendall really resembles Matt Saracen from FNL?
Kid seems pretty polished and certainly isn’t lacking in confidence. I have a really good feeling about him and believe as long as he puts in the work he can be as good as he wants to be. Thanks for the post…
Buddy Hield announcement coming up in a little over 10 minutes
Staying for Senior Season! Great decision!
Fantastic!!
Tre Jackson, really, 41 vertical with that speed. Man, some kids are just blessed and that was fun film to watch. Tramonda Moore, can’t wait to see his development.
Wouldn’t bother me to see an OL with almost all Okie’s. It was good in 2000 so maybe we can pull it off with all of the instate talent. Great stuff as always and much appreciated.
its been a long time since John Marshall HS produced a D-1 football prospect ( Mike McDaniels was the last I remember )…the Bear program has been in hibernation for years…..one has to wonder about the level of coaching and desire of the players…..
Thier coaching has improved quit a bit. They hired Rashaun Woods (OSU) as head coach, and Tango McCauley (A&M) as an assistant. . IMO…the program took a hit when they moved locations, and now it seems they are on the way up. It’s alway nice to OKC schools to have a solid JM program.
Woods huh? So I figure if they ever start churning out talent we will never get any of those kids, as we never got any of those Millwood kids in years past. Not sure if this is the place to ask but anyone know what the deal was with that?
“the Bear program has been in hibernation for years.”
I see what you did there and I like it. Have a wonderful day Mr. Dale.

Smart decision.
yup
Awesome. Love watching him play and if he continues to improve like he did last year he could carry this team to some very special places.
Awesome
As for Armunz Mathews, it’s good to see that he has been keeping an eye on OU. But don’t tell ESPN the 30 for 30 is generating awareness for other conferences.
AJ Epenesa (OU offer) is blowing up recruiting wise as expected and he’s still only in 10th grade. Kids a stud and has ties to Coach B. I know two years is a long way away but I hope the coaches are continuing to work on him.

I have no idea what Jordan posted but this is hillarious and kinda depressing. I have done that.
It is the epitome of “not cool.” LOL!
I new something smelled in Stoolwater….then again something always smells in Stoolwater!
It’s a stalewater slough.
So wait, weren’t we just told that OSU is clean and that SI article was full of BS.
This is barely even a slap on the wrist, so whether they are clean or not they got away whatever they did or didn’t do virtually scott clean.
Yeah, gotta have a little fun though.
no kidding.
Is this for football or basketball? And didn’t they get to have their additional hours restored with their athletes?
Football
Wow!
Thanks, Jordan.
Excellent OP, TFB.
The thing that really impressed me with Jackson, aside from his SPARQ numbers, was his quick cuts and feints. To be that fast and elusive is amazing.
I agree Moore is raw, but to my eyes his game just screams DT/NG.
Tramonda Moore is a big child! He doesn’t look sloppy either. Definitely stick him on a center and plug up the middle.
Hope we can bag a few of these local athlete’s and put a stop to the Oklahoma cherry picking by other states.
Can’t think of too many in-state players that OU has offered going elsewhere. Wariboko comes to mind, but not too many others in recent years.
Yeah, Wariboko. Wonder what he’s thinking now that the OL coach at UCLA is suspended and we’re recruiting his brother.
Hopefully OU is not serious about JW’s brother…lots and lots of offers to Texas guys, La guys, and East Coast athletes….
Why his brother sucks or what? OU is a national program…if there is a kid in Oklahoma better than say Maryland, we’ll get em. It’s about talent.
I only saw that he was invited to a Junior Day. Haven’t seen anything since. Hopefully you’re right.
Boomer, OU has lost several to Texas and a couple to Tennessee as well as numerous guys to Puke St. Occasionally one will sign with a West Coast team or a SEC squad ( Clark to LSU 2yrs ago ) or Miami Fla……so it happens often.
Kids that were not proirities I suppose.
Jeff Leiding, Rodney Tate, Cobbs, Josh Turner to Texas, Clark to LSU, Robert Meacham to Tennessee, Gyasi Akem, Kevin Peterson to OSU—just some that were priorities thru the years……can’t remember the TE from NEO & Ada who became a star at Miami FLA—just a few examples.
Jeremy Shockey….I am from Ada, I have met the guy, he is a grade A douchebag and glad he never was a sooner. They brought him back to talk to us when I was in high school and he literally did nothing but talk about himself and when any of us tried to talk to him, he ignored us. Dan Cody, another “Ada” talent was quite the opposite and a truly amazing person to talk to.
How far back are going, SD? Jeff Leiding, Rodney Tate? Seriously? Those guys are grandpas by now. Let’s talk recent history since you said it happens often.
Rodney Anderson, PJ Mbanasor, Orlando Brown, Courtney Garnett, Joe Mixon. All these kids had texas offers. That’s just the last two classes while you had to go back to the 80’s for jeff leiding? Haha come on. If anything look at Arkie they get quite a few every year.
the subject was OKlahoma preps who left the state–not those from another state choosing between OU & Texas…OU should expect others to ‘cherry-pick’ Oklahoma HS talent since the Sooners have been doing it across state lines with success since the end of WW2…the 2nd pt is OU’s success with premium texas HS talent has diminished significantly over the past 5-6 yrs as aTm / Baylor/ SEC has begun to recruit more successfully in Texas….Last seasons implosion did not help for 2016, either….Baylor ,so far, is having a solid recruiting season and ranks between 10-14 in most polls while OU languishes 35-40 at this point…What should not be in question is OU doing a better job of evaluation of in-state guys as well as those in Fla / Cal/ Texas/ LA….OU is going to sign about 1 of 7 of all those offered so good evaluation is imperative and contacting / offering those deemed necessary should happen quickly—not after that person has committed elsewhere and OU has to try to ‘flip’ the guy…..While OU has some success signing guys from greater than 500 mi of campus, OU has far greater success closer to home..those offers to the East Coast / Hawaii / mostly in California are most likely ‘pipe dreams’ ……not going to happen.
You said OU has lost several to texas. I was just calling your bs. pfft Rodney Tate..
I know of 2 to Texas in the past 30 years. Cobb and Turner, both of whom we’re complete busts. Who besides Gerald Jones have we lost to Tennessee in the past decade? Clark to LSU and Wariboko to UCLA? Who else? You said it happens often, so there must be dozens more in the past couple of years that I’m forgetting. Please enlighten me, oh brilliant one!
Robert Meacham to Tennessee is one that jumps out
Yeah, that was 2002.
SR———–depends completely on the quality of the Oklahoma prospects …..Only a few make a splash at the D-1 level……….
Great recruiting report, Super K & Brandon!!!
Why no more DL offers going out, way too many DB offers are out
It seems proportionate to the big 12’s style of play although I’d really like to hear some sort of update on defensive line recruiting as well.
Sings like Ron Burgundy: “I love football. Football is awesome. Football. Football. Football. Into my eyes. Into my brain. Mm-mm-mm.”
update added
I like Tramonda Moore. He could be the next Jordan Phillips with that size.
certainly big enough but does he have any other talent to go with the size ?? Does he have the grades ? Does he have a work ethic ??
Phillips didn’t have the grades…almost didn’t make it in and missed fall camp pretty much guaranteeing a red shirt
Man I love the work bedenbaugh is putting in. That 6’7″ OT would literally be an enormous boost to the early portion of OU’s line class. Never have to wonder why we won’t be hurting for depth along the offensive line these days.
Yeah, Bedenbaugh has done a yeoman’s job at OU. This is one reason I knew, but Bob Stoops would never, ever say, that OU would never hire Mangino back. Stoops couldn’t hire him if he wanted, IMO, b/c the school wouldn’t allow it. He’s as good a coach as anyone in the world, literally, but he ran off OLmen. They literally hated him. I’ve had OLmen tell of the inhumane ways he would talk to them. We had little depth when he left. Bedenbaugh seems to be really liked by OLmen, coaches them well, recruits well. He seems to be the whole package. OU is fortunate to have him.
There was a notable quote from Bob during a practice his first year at OU, you can hear him say firmly directed to MM, “Talk to him another way, coach.”
MM?
Mark Mangino. I know a player who was under Mangino at a different school. He said Mangino was the meanest coach he ever had, bar none, and wasn’t surprised at all that Mangino got into trouble as a HC. He had tough coaches before, but there was an element of sadism in Mangino’s approach.
Thanks. I guess since it’s Friday my brain has already left for the day, just couldn’t put that together.
I’ve gotta agree completely. Back in 2012-2013, Mangino was one of those potential candidates that didn’t excite me at all. I’d say Bob went the right direction getting one of the top Oline coaches in the country.
I would like to get a list together (per position) of OU’s # 1 Target, Top In State Target and Top JC Prospect..
I’d like to see that, too, if one exists. I doubt the coaches let anyone, including TFB have much inside knowledge of who their tops targets are, which is the main list. Sometimes a coach might say the obvious, “This guy is at the top of our list,” but I doubt they let it out much. It probably would hurt in recruiting b/c they don’t always get the top guys, but they guys they get they want to think is their top guy.
I would take a TFB list good for me, at least a start.
I would think that list–or any list–is fluid according to whomever is willing to ‘ come on board’ … Lots of ‘ under the radar types’ in OU’s view right now but that won’t change till/ unless the team starts winning conference and NC’s again…….Baylor is killing it in recruiting right now and is the highest ranking conference team in Rivals listing with Texas 2nd—but its still early…..
I would like to see our offers per position and players per position we are talking too that don’t have an offer. This would give you a good glimpse.
sad day……..hear the orange pride was suspended for 4 yrs for their, uh, activities….nudge, nudge

Love it.
ESPN had their own take. After White said he could do what he wanted against SEC, reports says, I guess going 0-2 against Bama and losing to ATM doesn’t matter to White. That is NOT what White was saying but ESPN has to put their BS spin on it.
Yeah. But the shine is off the SEC even if ESPN refuses to accept it. The run is over, Saban has lost two bowl games in a row and he and Les realize they have to amp up the Offense ala the Big 12.
Which opens up new dynamics for them in defensive scheming and recruiting to combat big12-like offenses. I see mediocrity ahead for them in transition.
BOOM… Tell em’ He *did* do what he wanted.. kid was legit, and the B12 or league doesnt matter

So I guess now a days the game is not won in the trenches??
Scoreboard.
Grab a shovel and go dig a ditch, then.
We need a boom!!!!!
247 shows an offer for Matt Farniok. Is this accurate?
Hope they are correct.
Kid has a long offer sheet.

OUtstanding!
Can take Abdul Adams off the RB board.. Just committed to Sparty…
I liked this but not because im happy about it.
Lots and Lots of 1* & 2* guys on the horizon……………
Yeah, don’t think so.. We didn’t get Adams, but he wasn’t our top RB target either…
just 1 of the top 2 according to various websites and somebody LR had been recruiting for sometime at ECU……B1G is a much better conference and Mich St is a more stable program so Adams’ decision is not THAT difficult to understand…..

Happy SD day to all!
Thought SD Day was on 4/20?
The lady sooners lost tonight at Kansas this team has to find that number to pitcher or they won’t make it to Oklahoma City.now the problem is are strength of schedule the rest of the year is not good we may not national top 8 seed this year if that happens with this pitching staff it will be hard for them to go on the road and win a Super Regional reality is this pitching staff has been disappointment this year.
……cheer up, the ny rangers won and advanced………lgr!!!!!!!!!!!
Hell new york Rangers i live in miami the Florida Panthers didn’t even make the NHL playoffs that suck’s.
Big NY Ranger fan here so ^5s on that !
the parity in the playoffs is amazing………pens limped in at the end and gave them all they could handle………thank goodness for timely goals and hank…….lgr
Blackhawks advance tonight.
probably but predictions are tough this yr……..as a fan am hoping for a hawks/blues matchup but the blues aren’t looking good and the preds aren’t dead yet…..
They will be in about 10 hours 😉
so were the sens 2 games back
They didn’t have to go to The Madhouse.
yeah, you’re right, they only had to go to montreal……….in any event, good luck with your hawks
Go Hawks!!
JB……….pitching has been THE issue for the softball team all season. When Parker is rested , she is very good…just lack a 2nd consistent pitcher and nobody has come through to share the load with Parker… a great team at every position except on the mound….would agree about the disappointing staff , particularly Stevens………..
I hate to agree with you on anything since you are not a true Oklahoma fan but you are probably right this time.
Uh-oh! Stephen Dale is right about something. And the something is my second favorite team on campus. We have the bats and the gloves to win it all but not the pitching. Once you get past Paige, it’s a steep drop in talent. Bummer!
It’s frustrating because if not for this pitching or lack of it this team would be as good as the 2013 national championship team that most people agree was the best team ever it’s very frustrating we may not win the championship because of this pitching because we have everything else .
Exactly. We have it all except for a bullpen. I don’t think we can ride Paige to an NC but Gasso is a heckuva coach. She might conjure up some magic. I hope so.
Watching Stevens struggle against North Texas was ridiculous. I didn’t see Kansas game, but having 24 hrs rest is plenty for an elite arm, so I don’t buy the not rested issue. Pitching (and having played travel ball) those girls may play 6-7 games in 3 days. Seems like every update yesterday I saw was about leaving runners stranded… But I digress.
Anyway watching Stevens This week, it’s pretty clear she isn’t used her legs at all. There was not hardly any movement in her hips/pelvis. Idk what’s going on, but it obvious something is affecting her mechanics.
My two cents.
This. All of this.
Thank you…
Paige Parker can’t pitch every single game if Oklahoma is going to win the national championship by losing we may fall out of the top ten our rpi this year is not as strong as in year’s past we may not get one of the top 8 national seeds if that happens and we are forced to go on the road for the Super regionals we are in trouble because Parker can’t pitch every single game that is the problem this team has not leaving players on the base.
Don’t disagree with you. However yesterday’s issue was stranding runners… They left 3 on 3 rd just in last 3 innings… A no hitter going into the 5th & no run support at all was the problem last night.
Yes, Paige needs reliable help no doubt. But I am telling you it’s not uncommon at all for elite pitchers to throw 3 games in 3 days. Let alone 2 which is all it takes in regionals & super regionals. Cat Ostermann (trying to find a name you might know), the Alabama pitcher who beat OU a few years ago & last year, neither had any kind of back up whatsoever. This is common ….
Oklahoma has stranded 38 runners in their 7 losses this season. That doesn’t sound like a lot but it is in softball. The Sooners don’t steal bases and have been caught stealing 17 times this season. OU’s lineup is built to outhit teams. When those timely hits don’t come, it puts Paige or whomever is in the circle in a tough spot.
Thank you Dustin… It’s a huge problem as only 2 of those losses have not been close… (Lsu & Baylor)
This team doesn’t really even have any slappers. Don’t get me wrong they can slug with the best of them, but a pitcher that just throws junk to get ground outs & riseballs, they put OU in tight games. Even the Ntx & OSU games are examples. There pitchers reminded me of the Old Guy in Major League…
“You put snot on the ball?”
“Haven’t got an arm like yours. Got put anything on it I can find. Some day you will, too.”
LOL
Crisco, Bardol, vagisil
Lol
Great movie. Gotta love it.
Their*
Look at it th way, they MIGHT have stranded 8 runners between the LSU loss & the Baylor loss. Maybe… I didn’t see UGa game. 38-8= 30… So they left 6 runners per game in all the others losses, pretty sure scoring 3 of them would have resulted in 4 wins easily…
In the 10-2 loss to LSU, OU stranded 7.
In the 2-1 loss to LSU, OU stranded 3.
In the 8-0 loss to Baylor, OU had only 2 hits and stranded 1.
So, 27 LOB in the other 4 losses. Almost 7 per game, 1 per inning. Won’t get it done in close ball games.
Exactly
Those pitcher’s where power pitcher’s who could throw the ball over 70 miles an hour paige parker is not a power pitcher if she could throw the ball 70 miles a hour that would be great the problem is she only throws in the mid sixties.
So you are saying power pitchers don’t need as much rest…. Mm k
JJ I sure do like to watch these lady sooners play.
Yes sir. Softball was a huge part of my life for 20 years.. I love watching OU & seeing their success
Me too. Very entertaining.
Who remembers the OU pitchers other than Ricketts from two years ago?
Exactly. But not just Ricketts… I can probably name the last 5 OU pitchers that went to the WCWS. And let’s face it, we love OU but it takes balance too. Sometimes the most dominant pitchers don’t win it all. I think Jennie Finch only one 1. Ostermann won none…
Bama won it all with one pitcher and the Vols came close with only one pitcher.
As good as Parker is she is still very young. Pendley is a more than capable back up/reliever.
Exactly. Very few pitchers come in as true freshman, even with power behind them & win it all. Look at Ricketts even, she came close but not til her 3rd year. OU was honestly hurt by going from a senior in Eckermann to Gascoigne & Ricketts (who is similar to Parker) as a true freshmen. It made recruiting VERY hard. Pitchers wanna pitch. That’s why my coworkers Dgtr went to Arky instead of OU or Baylor, didn’t want to sit for 2 years behind Canion & Ricketts/Gascoigne. And in softball you can’t blame them, this is pretty much the pinnacle.
No ma’am, can’t blame the young lady one bit.
Having two shut down pitchers is a luxury most teams don’t have.
2 EXTREMELY young at that time…
Plus, Paige probably didn’t expect to be pitching this much this season. Everyone just assumed Kelsey would be the No. 1 pitcher and start 40+ games. Paige’s learning curve got sped up a bit, but I think it will benefit her greatly in the postseason. She’s battle tested. I completely trust her moving forward. And, as EasTex said, Shelby is a more than capable No. 2, if needed.
Yeah. And I still don’t think it’s in Kelsey’s head. There is something off in her mechanics…
It happens sometimes. Who was the Washington pitcher that won POY and won the WCWS? She had a horrible year the next season and UW didn’t even make it to OKC. Strange things happen.
Danielle Lawrie?
I think that’s it. If I remember correctly, her ERA ballooned to almost 4.00 or above that next season.
I was watching her this past week and it seems her lower body has atrophied. She doesn’t seem to push off very strong with her legs, which is where the power comes from.
Certainly hope she doesn’t have an illness.
Yeah there is something wrong either low back or maybe SI out or sciatic type thing she’s trying to battle. But there are issues…
The good thing is the pitching staff is young plus we have one of the top 5 high pitcher’s in the nation coming in next year they should be good next year the good thing the young pitcher coming from Kansas she is a power who throw the ball near 70 miles an hour.
Vols came close several times
Gascoigne. That was OU’s luxury, having, probably, the two best pitchers in the country. Michelle pitched a bunch in the postseason just because she could. If she wasn’t there, Keilani could have thrown every game, easily. JMO
If a team has at least one dominant pitcher they can win it all, that has been demonstrated by many teams.
Gascoigne could have been dominant if the need had been there.
Exactly
The only problem is paige Parker is not a power pitcher she mid sixties Kalani Ricketts through over 70 miles an hour if she was a power pitcher i would feel better but i will agree with eas tex i think Shelby Pendley could be a valuable number two pitcher also you guys left out Alabama they always seem to make it to Oklahoma City hope we don’t have to play them Super Regionals.
Keilani never threw 70+. Her best fastball could touch 68 on occasion. She had an array of offspeed and breaking pitches. That’s why we lost the “rain game” to Alabama. She had a slick ball and couldn’t grip it well enough to get the proper spin on her pitches. She would try but they would just flatten out and get hit hard.
Espn announcer said during the national championship game against Tennessee in 2013 that Kalani Ricketts throws the ball at over 70 miles an hour then they showed her throwing the ball 70 miles an hour with a radar gun.
Okie dokie
Yeah i went back and watch the game where the radar clearly showed her throwing the ball at over 70 miles an hour good see the ladies are getting their revenge against Kansas they’re killing them right now.
Nama looked like dog poo against an average Tenn team, who has the exact same pitching issues you describe at OU… I’ve on,y seen a handle of Bama games tho… My regional VPs daughter is a starter at Tenn, I usually try to watch them if they are televised, she’s a good kid & i actually enjoy this boss lol.
Tennessee is a very good team not an average team the sec it’s just that strong from top to bottom can make a very good team look average.
No they are very middle of the pack & their pitching is down
Being middle of the pack in the SEC is still very good from what I’ve seen they are very good team maybe not as good as 2013 but they are still a very good team.
Very middle of the pack …. But don’t trust someone who knows parents & players… Are they good sure, not great & not up to prev years
Back on topic, here is my WCWS field:
Florida
LSU
Oregon
Michigan
Oklahoma
UL-Lafayette
Florida St.
South Carolina
Kentucky could make real push too… It’ll be interesting with the seeding. SEC has definitely replaced the pac schools. But it stands to reason with weather friendly conditions…
When I was playing A&M was chipping into the southern power movement. Caught the bama/tenn game this week. Interesting.
It does seem odd not to see Arizona or UCLA in the mix.
Even Cal/Stanford made some runs.
I would not be surprised at all to see them make a run to OKC.
Thought about UK. The SEC is sooooo tough. And, SC took 2 of 3 from them last weekend.
I hadn’t seen SC at all. I have a coworker who’s daughter pitched at Arkie, they were really headed up, but have seemed to be a hot mess this year. It’ll be interesting.
On the other topics tho, some people really don’t understand the sheer volume of games these girls play at the u16-18 JD Olympic & travel levels. Hell I played about 130 one spring & summer and that was 20 years ago… Not counting fall high school ball. When you are in an SEC region or Cali/AZ that’s a done of time to develop.
Georgia is pretty stout
This is true. However, I project them to go on the road in the Supers to either Oregon or Michigan. I think either of those two teams would be too much for them.
good points….
Oklahoma leads the Big XII in ERA
Yeah but dustin we talked about this before Parker can’t pitch every single game if Oklahoma is going to win the championship we don’t have a number two pitcher .
She’s gotten plenty of rest during the regular season in order to pitch as much as is needed in the postseason. OU will host a regional and play a #4-seed. Paige could take that game off since OU will probably score 10 runs or so. Two games in the regional. Two games in the Supers. Not an extensive workload for an elite arm.
The problem is not the regionals it’s the Super Regionals our rpi is not that good this year right now it’s 17th if we are forced to go on the road with a true freshman in the Super Regionals that will be very difficult for this team we have to be realistic Dustin we may not make it to Oklahoma City this year.
Paige Parker is 8-2 with 1 save and a 1.22 ERA on the road this season. I’m not worried a bit.
Evans created too much drama in the top of the ninth, but he got it done in the end.
What was the final?
3 to 2
Carpenter hit the game winner in the 7th.
Evans loaded the bases with one out, then struck out their clean up hitter and got their top hitter to ground out.
/whew
A loss to Sam Houston State sure wouldn’t help the ol’ RPI.
Nossir, you are correct. SHSU has a scrappy ball club, I’ll give them that.

BOOOOOO!

Seems like OU is losing out on some of their top targets. I know it’s early in the process but maybe spending a few days just evaluating In-State and Regional talent would help us get back on track. Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, and New Mexico are the region I’m talking about. Let me be clear I don’t mean to just ignore the national guys we’ve already put time into. What I’m saying is maybe just focusing a little more inward would help since all the states I’ve mentioned have some quality guys who could be special.
………on to the second round……..lgr!……….let’s go rangers!!!!!!!
2017 @collinsville_fb LB Levi Draper(@Ldraper_10) is attending @KU_Football spring game tomorrow. Has 5 offers already. @TheFbBrainiacs
Also, Maryland is coming in two weeks to see Levi.
His list will continue to grow……while we wait.
Yep. OU isn’t recruiting him hard at all right now.
I’ve heard the 2016 class will be small, do you or your colleagues have total numbers and/or position numbers for the next class?
We can write that up sometime next week.
I remember a few years back we we’re in the same situation as this year we were only going to sign about 14 to 15 recruits we end up signing 28 when other players left the program if that happens we could be in trouble because we’re missing out on a lot of our top recruit’s early on we could be scrambling late put together a full class with less than the elite players that we are searching for right now let’s hope that does’t happen.
Exactly. You have to plan for attrition, b/c it’s going to happen. The question is how much.
I expect we’ll lose 2 when the players see where they are on the end-of-spring depth chart.
In the past year: Cortez Johnson, David Smith, Dannon Cavil, Quincy Russell, Derrick Woods, Taylor McNamara, Kyle Marrs, Kendall Thompson, and Jordan Phillips.
That’s 9. 10 if count DGB.
Agree i only hope it doesn’t happen but as you said you better have a plan b but are we planning accordingly to this possible outcome?
I don’t get it: how can Tennessee and the rest of the SEC sign 30 players every year?
Plus, I’ve heard that Spurrier takes players off scholarship. Almost 3 or 4 a year.
The problem is not how many scholarships we will or won’t have to offer the problem is we are losing out on a lot of our top targets we may be forced to sign less talented players that is the problem.
Got it. Thank you!
I would like to see OU get involved with local talent more than they have. When other schools are recruiting in your backyard, that should tell you something.
I’m still upset about Whitfield. But in fairness to the coaches, I think he burned a bridge.
Yeah especially when those schools are Alabama, and clemson those schools wouldn’t be recruiting Oklahoma if there wasn’t great talent here remember last year Alabama came in and took one of the top quarterbacks in the country out of Oklahoma this coaching staff needs to get on the ball with recruiting local talent again that is what made Oklahoma great on the bud wilkinson, and Barry Switzer they recruited Oklahoma hard and got great talent out of this state.
No, just no. Bud recruited all over the damn place.
JB———-yep……..the current roster shows the problem is not new…
JB————-absolutely correct….may be several 1* & 2* stars in the next class…………the elite are looking at the SEC /PAC 12 / B1G/ ACC………..
An idiot is defined as knowing that he/she is doing something the wrong way but continues to do it that way. Same can be said for those whose arguments are refuted but continues to use them.
Stephan Dale. That is probably the stupidest thing you’ve ever posted, and believe me, you’ve posted some stupid sh!t in he past!!
BD—you are welcome to your opinion as I am mine….just perusing several recruiting sites and OU is sitting close to #40 with one solid commit and two unknowns. Many off the Sooners ‘wish list’ have committed elsewhere–but– again, you are entitled to evaluate OU’s success to date as you choose . I am entitled to do likewise.
It’s freaking April you ()_&_(&_)_)(+(*)_&(*&()*&
https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=worlds+biggest+asshat+image&view=detailv2&&qpvt=worlds+biggest+asshat+image&id=618030A220986239A36A51F289C9AC4F518C7F74&selectedIndex=34&ccid=4qByTVWz&simid=608029368072998864&thid=JN.1Xdmio6hFsVzZ8TeQ9on1A&ajaxhist=0
Yeah, yeah, yeah the sky is always falling with you and Dale. C’mon man. Look, top 15 last year. Sure, you want a top ten…but as we all know the stars are mere opinions. For years, Texas had better classes according to the ranking organizations, but guess what? We kicked their ass. Time to get a broader perspective.
I give praise when it’s earned I rarely had a problem with Barry Switzer because he always won bob has done a lot of good for this program but the last few years this program has declined and that’s undeniable if he won I wouldn’t be criticizing him nobody wants to win another national championship as much as I do but its my right to criticize when the results are not there.
Thanks, Brandon.
I may not be the only one that gets swamped with all the offers and recruit’s names.
Also, in the event you weren’t already aware the ETSN combine is in Tyler on May 10.
Only have 11 seniors on scholly, 83 total for next fall, which would is very small (N=13), but there will be plenty of attrition between now and fall 2016. Attrition in the past year was 9 (see reply below for a list).
I expect a class of around 18-20.
EasTex, my wife and I went to a jazz club last night. It’s always nice to get live music. It’s a different experience. I saw this poster hanging on the wall. I thought you might like it.
Nice!
Now, where is the poster?
I see it. Had to refresh.
It’s there.
Amazing thing, that refresh button. LOL!
Yeah, loved Ol’Dizzy.
BTW, did I ever tell you my hometown is the birthplace of Boogie-Woogie?
True story.
http://www.marshallnewsmessenger.com/news/2010/may/18/marshall-is-proclaimed-birthplace-of-boogie-woogie/
https://youtu.be/_FjGjIXuKUA
Boogie Woogie? I’m assuming that’s in Texas.
I guess if there is a Mechanicsville, Va., there can be a Boogie Woogie, USA.
You didn’t click the link, did you?
Boogie Woogie began in East Texas and traveled the world. Little Richard and/or Jerry Lee Lewis are two examples of B-W.
It was also known as:
Barrelhouse
Boogie
Blues Piano
Country Blues
Honky Tonk
Ragtime
Walking Bass
Stride
Swing
Jazz
Rock and Roll Piano
Rockabilly
Hillbilly
8 to the bar
Sixteen
Fast Texas
Fast Western
Fast Blues
Galveston Blues
No, I didn’t. I was getting the evil-eye, if you know what I mean. Give me a few minutes. I need to redirect my attention.
That “stink-eye” is disturbing.
I like Omar.
somewhere in the 17-20 range is the numbers being discussed on several websites——possibly less if next season is disappointing.
That number will grow substantially by February. There will be attrition. There always is.
We need to get on that!
Ray——do you think OU will offer him ??
Yeah, but it’s not like he’s got any big time offers. Do we recruit the same kids Tulsa does?
He still has two more years of HS ball to play, Alabama and Stanford know who he is. Clemson has already made a trip to his school and last time I checked….Clemson kicked our ass.
Hell, OU knows who he is! But has Alabama, Stanford or Clemson made him an offer? No, but Arkansas St, SMU and Tulsa have, so we need to hurry up and offer this kid, right? I for one, am against offering very many SOPH’s because you need to see if they continue to develop. I’m sure that OU has told him that they will evaluate him this spring and then come watch him in the fall. That is the prudent thing to do. No need to panic about a SOPH just because lower tier schools have offered. If he turns out to be the real deal, the big schools will come with offers in hand and OU will be right there in the mix.
I don’t disagree with you at all. I know the lower tier schools usually come calling first and the upper p5’s usually wait and evaluate more thoroughly where soph’s are concerned. I just really want this kid to be a Sooner because I have watched him grow up playing ball and think he will have what it takes. When I watch him I think about guys like Lehman and Calmus.
The eye ball test is tough to argue.
It’s tough for most not in your position to get too excited about offering a soph in high school. Based on what you have said and the TFB reports and videos, the kid could be a ‘can’t miss’ prospect. Still, much can happen in the next two years.
Two years IS a long time, I just have a feeling just as you have when you’ve “eyeballed” kids down there in texsa.
Which is why I believe your ‘eye ball’ assessment.
One thing about Coach Stoops an offer is an offer. It has probably happened, but I can’t recall him ever rescinding an offer. Unlike a few years ago when Ricky Seals-Jones was committed to Texsa, blew out his knee in the first game of his senior season on national TV and not long after that Texsa pulled their offer.
I know many don’t care for the slower approach Coach prefers in evaluating and offering, but I do see the value in that approach.
When it comes to talented in-state kids I think they should lock them down fast.
I also understand the wait and see approach, it’s good business most of the time. I just hope there is very good behind the scenes communication with local kids. I don’t want the University to assume they have the inside track and not put in the work.
Yes, he’s that fast & instinctive…. And upright if you know what I mean
Yes, I actually had already figured that the bigger offers would want to see him play some his jr year… And see if he continues to grow.
Also, interesting to see… And you know I love his family… The play’s versus Eisenhower. I know LHS has some D1 signees, would think IKE had more…. That is the one game I didn’t at least catch some of through the feed…
nm
Link to the Nike Opening invitees. Several that OU is in on and a few others I wish they were working. Westfield, TX has some hosses. Tyree Cleveland and Ed Oliver, who has an OU offer.
http://www.studentsports.com/football/2015/03/03/theopening2015roster/
With all the offers seems like OU is worried about the DB
Watching Perine destroy Kansas, beer in my hand, and ribs marinating. It’s gonna be a good day
I watched that Perine’s record setting video by hambone this morning.
Ribs fell off the bone like Kansas players fell off Perine
Not bad Mr. Westbrook. I still like Jeff Mead, I think he will be a star but a good look at the WR from the spring practices
https://twitter.com/jucoffrenzy/status/592006274037846017
Nice find.
I like the ypc averages on both the outside and inside receivers.
Nice stats for Andrews as well…
Anybody else cringe when they saw the # of drops for Humphrey?
For me, not really, since he has only been on campus for less than four months.
He was processing a lot of information and not just football related.
I will cringe if that is a trend when the season starts, though.
I expect him to redshirt, so hopefully it won’t be an issue.
did he remind you of trey franks with all the drops ???
James Hanna and Trey Metoyer came to mind…
Hmm, Hanna is making a good living for the Cowboys. He must be catching something. He ran a 4.46 as a true “flex” TE and was 6’4 250. We are excited about Andrews and he may run a 4.65 but for some reason the OC felt it necessary to use anyone but a TE when Hanna was at OU. Another misuse of an NFL talent. I’m not a negative person but I always felt the TE was the missing ingredient during those years.
I think you make a good point, Boom.
YES…that was what stood out the most.
not a good sign
One positive on the number of drops is that the QB’s have kept coming back to him. Those reps will be good whether Hump finally gets it or just watches from the side.
No, true freshman that will be very good when he is a JR
More worried about the def than his drops
I can’t see the whole pic. Where can I find this?
Just click on the tweet.
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CDc6izVUUAAXqRR.jpg
Shep and Westbrook will be our bread and butter in the passing game…we should be able to bring out that “sugar bowl” passing attack as long as our qb play is there
The catches to drops ratio is nice to see…always thought Shep and Westbrook would be our biggest players in the passing attack and be go to guys to keep the chains moving
Wow, the ball is like a cold for DeDe Westbrook. He’s the only one catching it and the only one coming down with it. Sorry, had to do it, The Replacements was on re-run all weekend, and as old WR myself, I just love that line.
How many offers have gone out to the DL???
23 DB offers, 6 of which have committed. 17 left.
18 DL offers, 3 of which have committed. 15 left.
Considering the personnel the defense is planning to field I believe you can r-e-l-a-x on your concerns.
He isn’t concerned, and he will find something else to be negative about.
The Council of Despair never sleeps.
Here’s the link for the KU radio feed for the softball game. Be warned: The announcers are horrible.
http://kuathletics.leanplayer.com/
What were WE saying about run support & stranded on base????
Double Dang!
He is 6’8 360lbs and a sophomore.
http://www.hudl.com/athlete/775658/highlights/184243377/v2
That is one BIG kid.
Just a sophomore…That’s crazy.
So looking at the spring stats on recievers it looks like the starters are Westbrook and Mead on the outside and Shepard and Andrews on the inside. Second string could be Quick/Humphrey and Meier on the inside and Todd and possibly Neal on the outside. If Mayfield gets better with turnovers he’s the starter otherwise Knight. Then you have Samaje then Mixon followed up by Brooks and Anderson/Ross. Darlington at center Kasitati and Danley at guard and who knows about the Tackles. This is very exciting.
The potential for a great offense is there. I’m not sure I would rule out Thomas or Hansen at QB, at this point. As for the receivers it almost doesn’t matter who is named as a starter since so many of them will see quality playing time.
I’m curious if we don’t get Whaley then who would be the next targets at runningback or would they even take one?
Tramonda Moore video was eye opening. Very athletic for a kid that size plus a high intensity motor and in OKC @ John Marshall. If he doesn’t get an offer I’ll be amazed. Most Okla. kids should be offered if they have the talent to be a Sooner and there’s a slot. IMHO.
I liked his video, too. To me DT/NG just seems his natural position.
ALL Oklahoma kids who the coaches think have Sooner talent GET an offer!
I’ve been looking at some of the videos for the incoming 2015 class and it is loaded. I think it will be tough to keep many/most of them on the bench.
Dahu Green, AD Miller really stick out. Neville Gallimore is considered raw and could be a RS, but there is something about the young man’s attitude, along with his freakish athleticism for such a big man, that I could see him playing as a true freshman.
Gallimore – I’ve always been a fan of Gallimore & Campbell. Looking forward to both of those guys. Also, very interested in where and how they use him.
Don’t forget about the men’s tennis team going for the Big XII Championship today. Televised on Fox Sports 2 if you have it.
Yessir and have small ball at 1p.m.
We HAVE to win this series.
Gotsta’ have it.
Any nibbles on Whaley’s phone?
Not yet.
He’s slow playing you.
Teenagers…..
His commitment is so close I can almost taste it.
http://ak-hdl.buzzfed.com/static/2014-11/9/23/enhanced/webdr03/anigif_enhanced-20380-1415593477-18_preview.gif
tater tot Whaley it is.
Doubles kickin’ that booty.
Got the point. That’s huge.
Only have FS1 but I do have the softball game on that radio link you provided.
I can’t do it anymore. That kid announcing is absolutely horrid.
I just keep up with the live stat feed.
http://sidearmstats.com/kansas/softball/
The delay might be a while.
http://www.accuweather.com/en/us/dallas-tx/75202/weather-radar/351194
Shouldn’t last too long. Hope not, anyway.
Kansas has no interest in become a trivia answer. Chamberlain with 3 walks in as many plate appearances today.
Two asterisks in one season for NCAA individual records would not be appealing.
Outside of basketball, KU only exists for everyone to pad their stats.
Jaychickens.
Cuatro.
Ridiculous. Still winning 7-1.
…and still batting.
She gets one more at bat.
Hopefully. She’s up 4th in the 7th.
Didn’t realize the men’s baseball uniforms were throwbacks, I just thought they looked sharp.
Mayden Mayde. Mayde. Mayden. Come on and drink the Crimson koolaid.
Tennis back on.
Excellent
Another rain delay?
Lightening delay, this time.
Looks like it is about gone and should be clear the rest of the day.
Right on. We were looking good. Hope it doesn’t affect our rhythm.
Hope not.
Losing to a bunch of guys wearing pink shirts would be an additional insult to losing the conference championship.
Why on earth would they be wearing pink?
A question I can not answer nor dare ponder.
EDIT: reply is to Dustin’s question on pink shirts
We need revenge for last year it’s our time to win the big 12 championship this year in tennis.
Would like to watch the tennis match i have Fox Sports 1 & 2 the weather keeps interfering.
http://www.accuweather.com/en/us/dallas-tx/75202/weather-radar/351194
The ladies have blown the game wide open in Kansas can’t stand kansas for not pitching to Laura Chamberlain .
Lauren*
My bad what’s happening to the men’s team there self destructing against a bad Sam Houston State team.
Dunno. Outside viewing range and the live stat feed isn’t working for me.
They are down 4 to 0 in the 5 inning totally self destructing with errors if we lose this game we would have lost two out of three to a really bad team not good for our RPI.
Sooners down 4-0 in fifth.
Awesome
No dustin we are losing 4 to 0 that’s not awesome that sucks.
..
LOL!
They’re intentionally walking her?
That’s the way it looks if team’s keep walking her the coaching staff might have to move her in the batting order down to third or fourth so team’s don’t just intentionally walk her all the time.
Just offered top rated QB in 2017…
@SWiltfong247: #Oklahoma the latest to offer the No. 1 QB in 2017 Brownsburg (Ind.) High
@ArmyAllAmerican Hunter Johnson: http://oklahoma.247sports.com/Board/86/Contents/Sooners-offer-No-1-2017-QB-36973844
Baseball looks like they’re going to lose let’s hope the men’s tennis team wins big 12 championship today so its not a total wash out for Sunday.
I don’t mean to succumb to poor form, but your posts would be easier to read with some properly-placed punctuation. My apologies; I’m not trying to be rude whatsoever. I just often find myself missing your point when I have to focus on where the sentence should stop. Again – my apologies.
Really like this CB http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2128752/benjie-franklin
Dang.
Jayhawks have the tying run at the plate with no outs.
Men’s baseball has no fight in them.
Too close for comfort. Win is a win is a win, I guess.
I’ll allow it.
Women’s team need to wake up Kansas is making a furious rally in the seven.
It’s over, Sooners win.
Thank god getting worried a little bit with the men’s team getting murdered today couldn’t stand the thought of losing to Kansas in softball.
Men’s tennis team is again in another weather delay.
In hearing Jared Mayden and his dad James recently on a radio interview, I think this is coming down to a two-school race between OU and TCU, with perhaps Oregon and tOSU as dark horses. His dad made it crystal-clear that his mom and him would love to see him go to OU. Usually, what Mama wants, Mama gets.
Well, most of the time.
http://img.bleacherreport.net/img/images/photos/002/686/728/YouMadMom_crop_exact.jpg?w=1500&h=1500&q=85
So true! I was watching the bottom kid live when it happened. The mom’s reaction was priceless.
Same here. Hilarious!
And tennis is back on…again.
The match has certainly turned…..
Diesch was at Arkansas this weekend.
Way to go OU Men’s Tennis!!
Wasn’t a cake walk.
congratulations mens Oklahoma tennis team for winning both the regular season and the postseason big 12 championship now it’s time to win the national championship.
Who dis…?
@OU_CoachStoops: 817 Stand Up! #OUDNA #Sooners16
Mayden???? I have no clue btw. Just very wishful thinking.
Brandon says its OL Kellen Diesch..
Awesome! Thanks
@BrandonTFB: Breaking: Kellen Diesch has committed to #Sooners. @TheFbBrainiacs
Diesch!!!
Bob Przybylo @BPrzybylo 12s13 seconds ago
Asked OL Kellen Diesch (@_kell89) to confirm if he has committed to #Sooners. His answer just now? “No.”
No boom?
Nope
A BOOM when you’re not even looking. Sweet!
Guessing the kid wanted to announce it himself.. ?
Any other offers out to kids in the 817 that would make sense?
Did Brandon twitter get hacked?
Nope, he screwed up… He apologized..
@BPrzybylo: Tyler JC WR Ryan Parker has sent Facebook message to my account saying….has committed to #Sooners
https://youtu.be/riUMfrEdMbo
Guessing kid doesn’t have a twitter.
@HereComesRyan
Is this the same kid that was committed to TCU last season, out of Keller?
yes…..he was a 2* who had to attend JC…seems to have had a nice frosh season at JC……..
Ryan Parker has confirmed?
Yes
https://twitter.com/BPrzybylo/status/592500051923996672
What is happening…sorry studying for finals.
Got a commitment from the 817. Brandon jumped the gun and said it was Kellen Diesch. Diesch confirmed he had not commited. Brandon apologized. Bob Przybylo confirmed that Tyler Parker (WR) is the commit.
LOL offseason, what is Tyler/Ryan Parker? I haven’t come across or don’t remember this name.
Commitment tonight from JUCO WR Ryan Parker.
I wonder why we need to bring in another juco WR?
Kid caught 47 for 841 yds and 16 tds…nearly 18 ypc…sounds like he could be similar to DeDe Westbrook? Just watching his video, he’s got some wheels. He’s listed at 6’2 180. He was 6’1 150 as a HS Sr.
That’s who I thought he looked like after I watched the film. He must be for next year. In February it said he signed with TCU so I’m guessing he didn’t make the grades.
I believe he was the 14 class and should grad juco this year
He’s a lot slower than what I seen of Westbrook…I actually like Dahu better…glad we picked him up late…seen where Parker had signed w TCU out of hs
Not to be pessimistic, but anyone else feel like we’re log jamming the WR position just to have WR’s on the roster? This the one position I feel like we can wait on guys for outside RB. (just FYI, I haven’t seen the film)
Film: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2835961/highlights/75894375/v2
Maybe some of the current WRs are expected to leave and it hasn’t been announced yet.
Plausible, I guess what I’m trying to say that they’re in a good position to risk it all on a big-time player and if they don’t get him we won’t lose much depth this round. In my opinion, save those spots and see what happens in the end. I’m happy to the new coaches getting after recruits (and getting commits), I just hope they’re not intimidated and settling for guys easier to get, if that makes sense.
I had that same thought.
Kindof the same with RB. We have quite a bit of depth. Is rather us not take one than settle.
I agree I’m concerned about more positions on defense like linebackers.
Main concerns are defense, mostly the front 7.
we’ve already got one committed..I guess someone needs to win the Butkus award before some feel good about the position again. I actually think our young guys will do just fine…you do know we are going to go with 2 backers right…sometimes 3
I believe they will always have 3 on the field and sometimes 4.
Well I guess the reports of moving back to the even front with Striker as a “hybrid” DE and running the 425 as the base package is a smoke screen
Kind of wish they’d run a true 4-man front, the “hybrid” just didn’t work well last year.
It didn’t work because our line wasn’t attacking (pretty much one rusher) and the cbs where 10 yards off the ball…it started working in 13
Our line wasn’t as talented as it has been in the past, as well. I just think that a “true” DE should be rushing/containing not a LB. I will say I’m pretty excited about Mann/Campbell.
We had plenty of talent on the line last year…Phillips and Tapper both were expected to have big years
Yes, but I didn’t see the motor they showed in 2013.
Bingo …because they had a different job in the 34
Weren’t they running the same defense in 13′ as they did in 14′?
no…we tried the 34 last year…the year before we were 42…41…or something like that…Grissom switched from DE to OLB..remember
Ah, I remember now, thanks for clearing that up. International Econ is killing my brain right now.
So you are considering Striker a DE. Lol that’s funny.
No I’m considering him a “hybrid” DE that will mainly blitz…that’s his job..get to the qb
It doesn’t matter where he lines up he’s still a LB.
I don’t care what he’s called..he will not be a Will Mike or Sam…and the Nick experiment last year was not all roses
Well if it’s him and two backers on the field that = 3
https://thefootballbrainiacs.com/more-spring-practice-notes-march-8th
what ever floats your boat
My eyes are bad but it still says Linebacker to me and that’s what I’ll call him.
A 6’0 220, DE is nothing to laugh about (pure sarcasm, nobody get mad).
Just a guess on my part but I’m wandering if the staff is wanting to make a big splash with this new offense and the young guys are showing signs of needing more development, so they go with battle tested receivers to get started.
I’m not so sure you can say Juco is “battle tested”.
Older and more reps than a HS kid…you can put a different name on it I guess.
We need guys that don’t drop the ball…shouldn’t every team lol
HAHA, it tends to help move the ball down the field.
It’s hard to go wrong with a playmaker that’s proven himself at the college level…
Not in the least bit. It’s not Cale’s style to just take warm bodies. No offer would be made if Cale didn’t know for sure he was OU quality.
Coaches have a big board and we don’t get to see it.
True, just an outside observation.
I understand, I just wish we knew the numbers they are looking at and how many offers have been extended. Without that info I will just wait and see.
coaches are having to take what they can get ; on board’ with the new scheme and lack of recruiting ‘mojo’….hopefully that will change.
and taking a number of WR’s may indicate some current squadmen are considering a change of scenery…LR’s new scheme may not fit some of the taller receivers who have size but lack separation speed…
I’m glad we have 4 commits already. I’m concerned that we have only offensive players though. We need the most help on defense at every position.
We have a LB commit as well..
