Open Post | Tuesday, Mar. 31st (UPDATE 1:05 pm)

Keith Ford: By now many of you have read the statement released by Keith Ford’s parents. If not, you can do so in its entirety here.

I had the chance to speak with someone close to Ford yesterday. Since the rumors began swirling and following Bob Stoops’ announcement of Ford’s suspension, there have been some folks speculating as to the possible reason/s for said suspension. Which is natural in these type of situations, but if you feel the need to do so we’d simply ask that it’s done so in a respectful manner.

And now that Ford’s parents have put out the statement they did — which, in my opinion, truly speaks to the heart of the matter — hopefully some of this irresponsible speculation can be put to rest. This was not a situation where a young man got in trouble for any illicit behavior. It was simply the case of a young man who was struggling with some setbacks. – (Super K)

Levi Draper: The OK Preps 2017 class is starting to look like it could be a really good one. One of the players you’ll be hearing about is Collinsville LB prospect Levi Draper, who is already hearing from TCU and was in Fort Worth this past weekend. Draper also tells us that Louisville is showing a lot of interest at the moment and appear close to offering. – (Brandon)

Austin Quillen and Jeremy Lewis: Two more OK Preps prospects that picked up some big offers yesterday were Jenks ATH Austin Quillen and Lone Grove RB Jeremy Lewis. Quillen picked up an offer from Iowa, while Lewis added one from Nebraska. It’s the simple reality of things that not every talented local kid is going to earn an OU offer, but that certainly does not mean the state is hurting for D-I talent.

Any number of factors can go into why OU (or Ok. State, or whoever) may not offer a kid. There will always be ups-and-downs to any state’s recruiting class, but it’s clear others have taken notice to the talent being produced in the state of Oklahoma. – (Brandon)

UPDATE (1:05 pm): Well, Louisville has in fact offered Levi Draper.

Great info. Thanks for all that you guys do!

  • Jason Vos says:

Just glad Keith Ford is not leaving, hope he gets better and comes back stronger than b4.

  • Jeremy Phillips says:

Big YES on Draper… Really like his size & physicality…

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

Me too, His ability to find the creases in the redzone were missed last year

      • Soonerfandave84 says:

hmm its not allowing me to edit this to say wrong spot…anyway meant to be with the Keith Ford comment below

  • Dustin says:

    Whaley commit yet?

  • Sooner Ray says:

Draper is an animal, I’ve watched all his games and have always been a big fan.

    • hOUligan says:

Certainly has the size…listed at 6’2 210 – 6’3 230…split the diff. Check. Seems to have some speed at listed 4.6. Check. Aggressive. Check. And ‘Ray Approved’. Check. ; )

  • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

Watching Draper’s film is like watching Shark Week.

  • hOUligan says:

Wish all the state kids that have P5 talent would get OU offers but the truth is, some kids just don’t fit what the team is doing offensively or defensively. Or there might be more kids at a single position than OU can use. Wish them all the best and hope they show out and represent Oklahoma no matter where they end up.

  • Chris White says:

What di Keith Ford do? I don’t want to throw judgment and I have no clue what the situation is besides a suspension…
Also Luther Harris got his first D1 offer yesterday from Tulsa! Another OkPreps player

    • Jeremy Phillips says:

Academics is one issue.. Another seems to be attitude related, im just reading between the lines on that 2nd one though…

      • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Per speculation on my part but it is easy to see that a guy who gets injured and then loses his spot can be frustrated. He didn’t fumble before the injury and perhaps the injury and recovery affected ball security. It would really be frustrating to lose a job due to injury and for the coaches to not recognize that the fumbling was injury related. Then he not only loses a starting spot, but then Mixon returns. Ford needs to realize that he can be a valuable guy. Although getting in Stoops doghouse for fumbling can be an eternal sentence.

  • Cole says:

I wanna ask if anyone could enlighten me on the article on 247 about Austin Kendall. I don’t subscribe and would like to know what it said about a commitment date and blah blah blah….. Unless the lovely people at The Football Brainiacs: The Oklahoma Edition could get a nice little interview from him.

    • Jordan Esco says:

He said he plans to commit sometime in the next month or so and that an announcement could come at any time during that period. Or at least that was the gist of things, IMO.

  • Cincysooner says:

Is it just me, or does Draper have a little bit of “Boz” capability? Love his video. Way a MLB should play.

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

Keith Ford Sr. sounds like a very good Dad.

    • BigJoeBrown says:

Great interview…really put’s things in perspective in regards to what is going on.

    • Sooner Ray says:

      Very good interview.

    • soonermusic says:

yeah, this is good, too. Lot’s of land mines to skirt around in conversations like that, and the dad seems to be both well spoken, and to truly have his kid’s best interests at heart no matter how it turns out. At this point, that’s the important thing.

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

Does anyone know if Levi Draper is talking with OU?

  • BigJoeBrown says:

Siting here thinking about recently OU has had NFL MVP Adrian Peterson, NLF Offensive Player of the year in DeMarco Murray…and now NCAA rushing yards in a game leader Samaje Perine. OU really is RBU. 3 guy’s with those credentials all from the same school.

    • John Garner says:

I wish Q could be squeezed into that group. 6 TDs vs.the Horns has to count for something.

      • nicjams says:

A lot of folks tend to forget that he ran for about 1900 yds his senior year. That dude was awesome.

        • D Hunter Sanchez says:

          Yeah, in the Air-Raid Offense…!

        • Nate Broadus says:

His very last act as a Sooner speaks volumes about the guy.

The coaches and players tried to convince him to go back in against WSU and break Billy Sims’ single season rushing record; Q said, “Nah, I’m good.”

That little dude was always a class act. Never saw him jaw like a fool once. Just flipped the ball right back to the ref and went back to the bench.

      • Jake says:

        Counted for 36 points I thought!!? 😉

      • lefty67 says:

Funny stat about that game is that he didn’t even break 100 yards rushing. The endzone kept getting in the way. 🙂

        • John Garner says:

LOL. Yeah like that game clinching TD he scored vs FSU. That wasn’t over 10 yards was it, yet it was the sweetest run of his great career.

      • Sooner 76 says:

Loved Q. He was a great RB and a very humble young man. Late in the Rose Bowl, he had a chance to get the all-time OU career rushing record and he said he didn’t want to go after it, so stayed on the sidelines at the end.

    • SoonerSouthoftheRed says:

I always liked Chris Brown too. Seems he gets forgotten but always ran hard. I wished Dom Whaley would have stayed healthy, he had a chance to really turn in some DeMarco type seasons.

      • D Hunter Sanchez says:

They were okay. Brown could read the hole well, not that strong or speedy or quick. He was like a Dante Jones. Whaley long strider, just okay. Brandon Williams had potential but a fumbler.

  • ccmosaic says:

Any news to report on the Scrimmage the other day?

  • Levi representing the Collinsville area!!! That’s awesome! I got a lot of family in c-ville! Great place! That’s home to me so it’s special. Awesome seeing the field on the highlight video! Looks like he’s got very good speed and size already.

    • J J says:

You, me Ray… Crazy about c-ville

      • Sooner Ray says:

        Go Cards!

        • J J says:

Yup… It’s kind if amusing that my coach friends in Arlington & Irving were asking about playoffs & such. I usually try to make a game, but this year went to see other friends kids play the Lawton schools. Jeez, they were loaded this year… Crazy athletic. Eisenhower & LHS.

          • Sooner Ray says:

All of the C’ville games are streamed live on line so you can watch them all wherever you are.

          • J J says:

Yessir…. Watched the Pryor game that way… I think. Halloween?!? Not a good trick or treat mom.. I’ll be honest

    • Ryan Little says:

Former Collinsville player myself. Good to see the Cards getting some attention!

      • My cousin also played fb for Collinsville a number of years back. My aunt and uncle are teachers at the middle school there. I love the town! It’s so wonderful to go back and visit. Everyone there is so nice.

  • Mike Reed says:

Broken Arrow’s Rowdy Frederick. 6’6″ 325 OL Was given the OL MVP award in Dallas at the Rivals Camp. He is hoping/waiting for an OU offer. He’d probably commit the same day an offer came. He’s a born/bred Sooner.

  • Reuben63 says:

dang that kid is huge and fast!! i Hope Ou doesn’t let him slip like those two guards this last off recruiting season.

  • J J says:

    Go Levi

  • Dustin says:

Choplick staring at another short start.

  • Jonathan Taylor says:

Has anyone seen the interview from Riley yet that was posted on soonersports? I got to say the more I hear from him and see the more impressed and excited I get for this up coming season. Anyone else got that feeling yet?

    • John Garner says:

      Yes.

    • OUknowitscomin says:

Agreed, has an astronomically better presence in interviews too. Those reporters are certainly thrilled & seems they give him a lot of respect.

    • OUknowitscomin says:

I should say his presence commands more respect.

    • Bob Edwards says:

I agree. He seems to be purposeful and to know what he wants and how to get it. Heupel always seemed like “Ooh, look I found this cool play in a book and I thought I would add it to the playbook.” No real sense of how to put it all together.

Riley does need to work on his interview skills though. Needs to look at the camera rather than turning to talk to whoever is behind him.

    • JD says:

Impressive…he’ll be a head coach in 2…3 years tops (I hope…means we did good things)

    • Sooner Ray says:

If the players produce on the field as well as he speaks to the camera, I’ll attempt back flips.

  • Sooner born, Sooner bred says:

I would like to personally challenge all of The Sooner Nation to show up in force April 11th for the spring game in Norman. Let’s show any future Sooners in attendance or nationwide watching on Fox Sports how we support our Sooner team, coaches and University and all they stand for. After all I have been hearing and seeing this spring, I have a feeling this year could be special. Let’s put the last year in the rearview mirror and go forward by showing the world how we support our Sooners. If crimson tide faithful can do it, so can The Sooner Nation. After all, there is only ONE! Boomer Sooner!

  • Chris White says:

I know you guys are talking a lot about how the QB’s like the new system and the freedom it provides but does that freedom include audibles? I’m sure I am not the only one who had frustrations with when our QB’s would check down and a play and look to the sideline waiting for a new play call and end up calling a timeout. Clearly it’s early but does his system allow the Quarterback to change the play themselves?

    • Defend Colfax says:

Heard they’ve checked to a few runs in scrimmage. So I’m assumin your answer would be yes.

    • L'Carpetron Dookmarriot says:

Packaged plays would be a good thing. Looking to the sideline defeats the purpose of 1) a quarterback who can “run” an offense and 2) going fast.

      • Chris White says:

I agree, that’s why I’m curious on what Lincoln Riley coaches. I guess when you run an offense as fast as he does there’s never a set defense to read lol

  • EasTex says:

    OT for the OP.
A new Cannonball Run record…New York to Redondo Beach Cali in 26 hours-28 minutes.
    GREAT GOOGLY-MOOGLY!
    What a story.

    • soonermusic says:

not sure if I could hang for the whole story, but I got to hand it to the writer, really good opening set up. He definitely appears to know how to write that stuff.

  • jonnyBgood says:

I am digging this Draper kid and hope Kish is too. This kid has good size already and seems to have the ever-important skill of staying on his feet and not getting grounded by the garbage. We have had some pretty good luck in the past with local LB’s and sure hope this kid gets a long look.
