– 2016 Recruiting: With the 2015 class in the books, we can now turn our focus to 2016. The OU coaches have already been hitting the trail hard, offering numerous prospects across the county. Two of those offers were made recently right here in the DFW metroplex where I (Alex) am at.

Fort Worth All Saints DT Mike Williams is a well-known name on the recruiting scene having already pulled in almost 20 offers to this point from programs like Baylor, Michigan, Ohio State, Stanford & Texas just to name a few. This past Tuesday, Jerry Montgomery extended an OU offer that Williams stated on Twitter he had been wanting.

When we caught up with him and talked the offer as well as what he thought about Montgomery, he seemed to really like the Sooners new Co-DC. ‘That’s the man right there,’ Williams said. He went on to say OU is recruiting him as a DE in their 3-4 scheme, which is a position he is familiar with having played there before. Williams also stated he plans on getting up to Norman for OU’s March Junior Day.

However, the Sooners will have their work cut out for them in this race. Williams seems to have more and more suitors joining the picture on a near daily basis. Another potential issue, despite his familiarity with the position, could be Montgomery having to sell him on playing the 4-tech instead of inside.

The other offer we referred to above went to another DE prospect in the DFW metroplex in Christian Daniels out of Trinity. Daniels told us he is currently 6’4″ 300 pounds and is currently in track season, where he throws the shot and discus. But, get this, he also runs the 400 meters! He even said he has put up a time as fast as 52 seconds recently. For a guy of his size, that’s not something you hear about every day. Daniels is right under the 10 offer mark from schools such as Baylor, Ole Miss, Oklahoma State, TCU & USC. His OU offer was extended about two weeks ago, again, by Montgomery.

What’s interesting about this is that Daniels actually lived in Michigan for a short time his freshman year. During that time he picked up his very first offer from Western Michigan, but that was also when he met Montgomery and the two first started to develop their relationship. In talking to him, you can tell Daniels thinks highly of Montgomery. But Daniels also mentioned that Bob Stoops has been in touch recently on Twitter, which he seemed to really like as well. The Sooners are in a good position at this point with Daniels thanks in part not only to their tradition, which he is a big fan of, but also because of the relationships he is forming with the OU coaches.

Another class in the books and Montgomery just keeps on plugging away. Not hard to see why he is such a successful recruiter.

– OU Junior Days: As we continue to shift the focus to 2016, a big part of that involves Junior Days. OU currently has two scheduled, the first in a little over a week on Feb. 15 and the second set for March 7. We will continue to try and hunt down word of invites and provide updates as names become available. Right now we’re hoping to have a full list up for the Feb. 15 event to you by the middle of next week.

2016 DB Eric Cuffee (Waco, TX) is a recent OU offer, and we had a chance to catch up with him yesterday. He said he plans to head up for the February Junior Day, and to say he is excited about it would be an understatement. “OU is a great school, and I grew up a huge fan of them,” Cuffee said. He continues to develop a good relationship with OU’s Chip Viney, who has quickly become one of the coaching staff’s go-to recruiters.

As many of you know, Oklahoma’s lone 2016 commit is North Mesquite offensive lineman Jean Delance (Mesquite, TX). He had plans on attending several junior days in the coming weeks, but has recently decided against it. Delance did, however, attended Texas A&M’s Junior Day a week or so back and enjoyed the experience. For now, though, unless things change, his next Junior Day will be with the school he is committed to, Oklahoma (March 7).

– Dwayne Haskins Jr.: Jordan mentioned this in today’s links post, but we wanted to be sure to include here as well. Oklahoma made a big offer yesterday to Dwayne Haskins Jr., who is a 2016 quarterback out of Potomac, Maryland. And while it hasn’t traditionally been a part of the country the Sooners typically recruit all that frequently, Haskins has said previously that OU is one of his favorite schools and an offer he would really like to have.

Speaking of offers, the list of schools Haskins already holds one from is pretty ridiculous. Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Texas, Texas A&M & UCLA just to name some of the heavyweights.

Needless to say based on his offer list alone, Haskins will be able to go wherever he wants. We’re hoping to try and catch up with him at some point to try and gauge just how much this OU offer could affect things for him. As it’s one thing for a kid to say OU is one of his favorite schools, but when you’re holding an offer list like he is one could have any number of ‘favorites.’

Regardless, on film Haskins looks to be a near perfect fit for what everyone is expecting Lincoln Riley to try and do with this OU offense. So if Haskins doesn’t immediately jump to the top of OU’s board at the QB spot, we’d be pretty surprised. And unlike a lot of schools, they have the sales pitch of not having brought in a QB in this past class thus potentially making it easier for Haskins to see the field early in his career.

– Quick Team Update: We also have a little team info to pass along. With the new offense obviously still in the very, very early stages of being installed, the players haven’t actually start doing any 7-on-7 work quite yet. They have, however, been working some 1-on-1 one stuff. And while we’d always caution you from taking any of this and running wild with it before the offense is even in and/or the players are in pads, we have heard about some of the players who have stood out.

If you’ve seen any of the highlights from his previous h.s. camp performance, it should come as very little surprise that RB Joe Mixon is one those who has stood out early on. We have continued to hear overwhelmingly positive reviews with regards to Mixon’s work ethic, with one source going so far as to say “he (Mixon) will always be good with Schmitty because that guy brings it every day.”

Another guy who has performed very well is one of OU’s early enrollees, Dede Westbrook. We know there has been some talk from other OU sites about Westbrook already, so this may not come as news to some. But the information our source had was a little different than what has been put out there, so we figured it was still worth sharing. “He (Westbrook) may not be the strongest guy in the weight room, but football isn’t played in the weight room. It’s on the field, and that guy can play. Probably the fastest guy on the field.” It’s still very early, as we’ve said, but it sure sounds like Westbrook is on track to live up to the expectation of being a great fit for Riley’s offense and immediately helping this OU wide receiving unit.

Sticking with wide receivers, redshirt freshman Dallis Todd was another name we were told has looked good so far. As you’d expect, sitting out last year allowed him to develop both his game and body.

On the defensive side of the ball, two names that won’t surprise you but Steven Parker and Jordan Thomas have also looked good in 1-on-1’s we’re told.

– UPDATE (Fri., 1:55 pm): Brandon has learned that 2016 DB & recent OU offer Eric Cuffee will in fact be attending OU’s March 7th Junior Day.

– UPDATE (Fri., 1:57 pm): Former Sooners Blake Bell, Adam Shead, Tyrus Thompson, Daryl Williams, Jordan Phillips, Geneo Grissom & Julian Wilson have all received NFL Combine invites. You can see the full list of invitees here.

I hope dallis Todd makes it on the field this year. I was impressed by his film, not by his athletic ability because I don’t remember him having any spectacular plays but just his body control and everything was smooth. With riley I’m excited to see us take advantage of the big targets we have outside. Mead Andrews Todd and Smallwood all need to bring it every day and this could be an explosive offense.

    • soonerthunder says:

I always respect what you write on here and sometimes just look at the Open Post and what you write, like today.

It does appear OU has WRs, at least according to rank. Todd, Andrews, Mead, Quick are HIGHLY rated 4* WRs. Add Shepherd and Neal to the 4* rated, and Westbrook, too. That’s seven 4* WRs. Now personally, I don’t think there’s a lot of difference, or any, usually between a 3* (Sanchez, Jordan Thomas, Dalton Wood?, Sam Bradford, etc, etc.) and 4*, but, just looking at the ratings, as we all like to do, there should be someone to work with.

(I think if a person didn’t know a single guy’s name on a team, and had to guess after looking at an unknown team’s practices a few days which ones were the 5* and which were the 3* athletes, they’d be about 50/50 on getting their stars guessed right. For example, if someone didn’t know a single name on OU’s team, a person might, after watching a few practices guess the 5* athletes were Jordan Thomas and Sanchez and Bradford, and guess some 5* athlete was a 3*.)

I hear Jn Humphrey is the fastest HS player in America, but the above post says Westbrook is the fastest player on the team; I think Humphrey ought to look pretty good in open space. Everybody thinks highly of Green & Miller. What I like about this system is using the whole field, lots of different looks, shifts, every play possible (the fans can criticize the bubble pass all they want; I don’t), screens, draws, confuse the defensive backfield, which will happen when you are constantly moving players around and going into motion, and then use our plethora of RBs, all home run threats. Plus, the system is easier on a QB to make the right decisions. Personally, I’m excited to see what Riley can do.

      • Zack says:

I think Humphrey is in the perfect place. From the post it says Westbrook isn’t the strongest guy out there and that you don’t win in the gym..to me that’s a perfect guy for Humphrey to learn from. They have similar body types and similar skill sets. I bet the reason why Westbrook looks like the fastest even though Humphrey has been timed at 4.25 is because westbrook has learned how to translate his speed to the field with pads and everything on.

  • BR says:

put our names next to what we typed up. It’s long. I put it all on one so you could read the info and mash it the best you see fit. I know K definitely wanted that team info part in the update. I held onto it for this open post. We did so because Carey posted that they were doing 7 on 7’s when players told me they haven’t due to new offensive system. Just kind of to call his BS, if you will. We figured you like that. lol

What is this refering to/mean please?

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

Dede Westbrook might be Jalen Saunders 2.0…or thats what Im hoping, anyway

  • dahldennsull says:

    Good edit, that said:

I don’t think anything was made up by other sites, just a misunderstanding on these sources. I mean the guys are going to get out onto the practice fields and run routes. I assume it’s not really the new playbook cause they are just getting into it, but with some of the awesome weather we’ve had lately, there is no way you can keep them off the fields and sling the rock a bit. Just maybe a difference of actual 7 on 7, or 1 v 1’s etc.

good to hear both sources saying Westbrook has looked good though. Could really thrive opposite Sterling

    • Jordan Esco says:

Tried to convey in what we said that it’s somewhat easy to look good in that type of a setting.

Well, that and after the last couple years I’m just not buying into anything I hear about Player X until I actually see it on the field. I feel like I’ve been burned so many times buying into offseason hype that I’m just not going to allow myself to fall for it again.

Which is not to say we won’t be passing along what we hear, b/c even if I don’t want to buy it I/we aren’t going to deprive others of the info. I’m just saying I’ll remain skeptical until the actual games are being played.

      • Bob Edwards says:

Well having listened to the coaches on NSD, I can’t see how we can possibly lose a game until these new players graduate. The problem I see with pumping up the players so much either during off season or NSD is that the fans now have expectations of that translating onto the field. When it does not, they get upset. I think most coaches would be better off being cautiously optimistic than being over the top with their praise. Makes it easier to exceed expectations which usually makes people happier.

      • Perry Dickey says:

hey, I thought Jejuan Rankins was going to be the greatest. So yeah, understand completely.

      • LXXIV says:

I follow what you are saying, but you are dampening the opportunity of experiencing the optimism that is so enjoyable prior to the season. But,everyone is different, which isn’t a bad thing.

        • Jordan Esco says:

I’m not at all, which is why I said we’re not going to hold the info just b/c I (or the other guys) may not believe it. Just b/c I may not buy it shouldn’t preclude everyone else here from at least knowing it and then determining on their own whether they choose to believe it.

That’s all I was saying (or trying to say anyways)

  • SCKSChief says:

Haskins…I may have peed a little watching that video. He appears to have a great grasp of feet, progressions and windows. Immediate upgrade.

    • Jordan Esco says:

I mean it’s a highlight tape so obviously it’s going to be all your best plays, but I’m not sure how anyone watches that and comes away thinking anything other than that kid will likely play as a true freshman. He looks that good to me, and that’s as a h.s. junior!

      • SCKSChief says:

Completely agree. I’m really impressed that he seems to know, right away, what he needs to do and where he needs to throw. May not have the strongest arm (it is no slouch), but he gets it into a window. I love how he sets his feet for his throws and how he understands that there are multiple slant/crossing route windows; doesn’t force it in right away. Not a scrambler, but I love how he moves in the pocket or within the call to keep it alive, all while keeping his eyes downfield. Impressive.

      • oumike23 says:

To see a HS QB roll left and get shoulders squared…hard to find even a college QB do that well.

      • Perry Dickey says:

yeah buddy. I always consider their highlights, but, you gotta have highlights to consider!

      • LXXIV says:

        You are right on, there!

  • three5s says:

This site is the best. Thanks to the guys for all the hard work and great info. thanks to the OPs who add great info and for keeping it friendly and constructive. I hate reading the infighting and disrespectful stuff on other sites. I do have one request- can you take down the 2014 FB schedule and put up 2015? The 2014 version is a downer.

  • RocketCitySooner says:

I’m so glad I found this website. For so many years I’ve had to struggle to find good information on OU. This website is a blessing and you guys that live in Oklahoma don’t know how good you have it. I went to my first OU home game last year since 1969. Too bad we lost but it was a great experience. Wife even said she wants to go back once a year now.

    • EasTex says:

      Dang!
You married way up, we should all be so lucky.

      • RocketCitySooner says:

You don’t know the half of it. Been married 22 years. Wife was simply not interested in football. She would watch a little bit but wasn’t all that excited. Then she watched the 2013 KSU and OSU games and then the Sugar Bowl on TV. She made a football media room out of the sun room She repainted the walls in creme and put up crimson drapes. We went to the KSU game and when she heard the crowd calling Boomer and Sooner back and forth across the field she was hooked.

        • EasTex says:

          She remodeled and decorated?
Yeah, no turning back for your bride now, she is a loyal Sooner.
I did the same thing with my dear, sweet Mom. She loved football anyway, but when she came to live me for the last ten years of her life she became a devout OU fan. She adored Jason White as only a Mom/Grand Mom/Great Grand Mom can.

Went to my first game on Owen Field in 1963, Bud’s last year.

      • RocketCitySooner says:

Went to my first game on Owen Field in 1964. Gomer Jones first year. You know how that turned out. Graduated in 70 and they installed the wishbone the next year. You know how that turned out.

        • LXXIV says:

We are nearly in the same boat. I started going to the games in 62, got married to an avid Sooner girl, and we have had season tickets ever since. A lot of games and a lot of great moments!

    • Jordan Esco says:

Glad you found us and thank you for reading!

    • Perry Dickey says:

Most sites had evolved into being more about individual gripes than info. This site has stated all along they want no part of that kind of mindset. It doesn’t hurt the information is delivered in such a neat way, every day!

  • Shane Rivas says:

Can’t find anything on that Christian Daniels kid would like to see him run the 400m. Someone has to tape that.

  • Sooner 76 says:

The fact that Mike Williams has been told by Monty that he would not be in the middle, and the players OU just signed to play DE should tell you all you need to know about whether OU will stay with the 3-4.

OU seems to be recruiting bigger players at all defensive positions. Bigger DEs, bigger LBers, and bigger corner backs.

OU will have the players to much better play the system they are running. I think that’s been a problem. For example, you can’t play bump and run successfully with the corners we’ve had, but you can with PJ and Stephens. Another example that I mentioned in daily notes is that Dom and Evans are too small to play in the middle. That’s why they tackle poorly, because they don’t have the size.

    • MoJoOkie says:

I will add that I hope no one expected to take 4-3, or whatever, personnel and insert them into a 3-4 and plug and play. It takes time and recruiting to fill those slots optimally. In fact I remember several people saying our down linemen were a little light for a 3-4 (I will concede that Phillips filled a great deal of that hole). Gotta have some heavier guys on the outside and heavier ILBs.

Edit: Shannon should help the middle this year, but we could miss Phillips a little (maybe a lot).

  • Randy White says:

FWIW After reading the Scout article about McGinnis and Coach Kish, I for one am putting to bed all the previous negative BS regarding his recruiting/coaching.

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

what will we have to gripe about all offseason then?

    • ToatsMcGoats says:

Is it a free article? If so, can you post a link?

    • RocketCitySooner says:

Great article. We should remember that we really don’t know all the things that go on behind the scenes. I wish I knew half as much about coaching as some others seem to think they know.

    • EasTex says:

Thanks for sharing the link, Randy.
      Much appreciated.

    • ToatsMcGoats says:

I’m as guilty as anyone with the Kish bashing. There’s been an absence of articles like this about Kish. I think these pay sites should make it a focus to profile all of the coaches and let everyone know what kind of a person/coach they are. It would definitely put an end to my smart a$$ comments if I knew more about the guy.

Still, though, I wish we would have gotten more LB’s in this class…

      • Bob Edwards says:

I think Kish’s big problem is he is not COOL!

        • ToatsMcGoats says:

Maybe. Hulk seemed to think he was cool enough, I guess. I think if there was more of an effort to get him to the fans (via media and what not) there wouldn’t be such a disconnect between the fans and Kish. It’s tough to be a fan of someone you know nearly nothing about.

          • Doobie74OU says:

They need to just assign somebody to take over his twitter account and social media stuff. He could have traveled and put in more recruiting time than anybody besides Monty and we wouldn’t know about it! Just having somebody sending out daily updates and such would help the perception that he isn’t doing enough!

      • EasTex says:

If you look back over past seasons, there is always one area of need that is greater than all others. One year it was TEs, another DL and now it is LBs. With the opportunities LBs and QBs will have after this season I can see those needs being addressed in a big way in 2016, but then there will another area that some will worry about.
        Some things never change.

        • ToatsMcGoats says:

Very true, Eas Tex. I just can’t understand why, with a guy like Striker blowing up like he did, that we would have such a problem recruiting LB’s.

          • SCKSChief says:

That’s the outside position. If you’re an inside guy and you watch film, you have two thoughts; 1) this scheme sucks out loud and I don’t want to go get killed, OR 2) man, these guys are garbage, I could play right now. Seems the former is the one that has been most thought of as of late. Glad Hulk thought the latter.

          • ToatsMcGoats says:

Inside, outside, it didn’t seem to matter…we didn’t get many of those either this round! I understand what you’re saying though.

          • soonermusic says:

When I see aggressively hostile articles condemning a Stoops’ hire for a laundry list of reasons, before the guy ever sets foot on campus, I begin to assume that anything that happens after he sets foot on campus is going to be viewed through the same pre-judging filter, and it will be hard to get an accurate picture of him or his performance. Everything that could possibly be viewed in a negative light will be, and the possibility of an alternate explanation will likely be ignored. Once that starts, it gets into the echo chamber and pretty soon you start reading “it’s obvious to everyone” and “we all know..” etc.

I think it’s just part of the nature of the internet beast, especially now that we’re at the stage where we can all micromanage even the individual words in a coach’s conversation with a recruit. 🙂 But it will be nice, and a good thing for OU football, imho, if we can manage eventually to get some clarity. It could happen…:-)

          • ToatsMcGoats says:

I remember the negativity surrounding Kish when he was hired. I remember the “Stoops crony hire” complaints. I didn’t know a lot about the guy aside from a post game interview when he was interim HC at Zona. He seemed confident, and it seemed as though he loved coaching. The reporter was talking about how the players loved Kish and how they actually wanted him to be the next HC. It seemed pretty promising for him.

When he followed Mike here, I wasn’t too excited about it. I wanted Tyrone Nix. After that first season, when our defense looked horrific and our LB’s weren’t pleased with the way they were being used in the scheme (close to no blitzing, mainly gap plugging), it didn’t reflect positively on Kish, in my opinion. Tom Wort left because of it.

Then, that 2013 season, everything started to look up. Dom Alexander had filled in for Corey Nelson well enough to earn Freshman AA status, and Jordan Evans was looking promising, and let’s not forget Striker. Everything seemed to be coming together…then last season happened.

The point of this long post is to say that I didn’t just listen to the “echo chamber” and grab my opinion from there. I’m fully capable of observing and forming my own, which is what I did with Kish. I used the information that I had and made my decision on what I thought of him. He had one good season out of three, and each season we have discussed the lack of depth in the LB corps. We had to play a lot of inexperienced guys because of that lack of depth. I understand that it takes time, but Monty took a Dline that was supposed to be the weak point of the team (depth and talent wise) and turned it into one of the strengths. This has yet to happen with the LB’s. The former player chiming in and saying that our LB’s are a big reason for our secondary problems was pretty damning as well.

I’m not just bashing Kish to be bashing him. I’ve watched the games. I hope he’s getting it turned all around, but if there’s no significant improvement next season, I don’t know why I would be for him staying in Norman.

            Just my opinion…

          • EasTex says:

Not only Striker, but many experienced LBs returning. Young guys are looking for many different things, but playing time is always high on the list.

      • Bob Edwards says:

I suspect we are going to more of a 3-3-5 base. That’s the only way some of the things making sense. Mike talked about us recruiting more DBs because we would be using five all the time. Bob saying we were shooting to have 11 LB’s total. etc.

    • Doobie74OU says:

There is a link at the end of that story to Scout’s Top100 for 2016 players and we are in on 2, 5* linebackers, ranked numbers 9 & 10 respectively. If Kish closes that deal (with the help of Monty of course) nobody will be talking about LBs going into signing day next year!

  • Doobie74OU says:

Well it looks like we have decided not to complain about Kish, so who knows.

      • SCKSChief says:

We did?? Did I miss another vote? LOL

        • Bob Edwards says:

Read down the article down below where “Hulk” credits Kish with sealing the deal.

          • SCKSChief says:

I was just there. Still not ready to let him off my radar. The position doesn’t get to be so “meh” with a “good” coach.

          • Bob Edwards says:

Well I am still kind of on the fence with Kish. However, in his defense, the cupboard was pretty bare when Venables left. Venables always seemed to have one or two really good LB’s and then nothing behind them.

          • EasTex says:

I also remember Box and Travis Lewis starting as freshmen under Venables.

          • Bob Edwards says:

Message Board – Noun. People coming to the “truth” by talking to other people who don’t know anything.

          • boomersooner says:

haha. yep. and then it snowballs into the guy can’t even get erections or something. it is funny/sad/irresponsible/maddening to see people make stuff up and then the internet zombie patrol takes it and runs with it. how do these people know kish can’t coach? do they get into the closed practices? how do they know he can’t recruit? do they listen in on his phone calls and in home visits? every kid seems to like him or love him and i don’t think its just lip service. so i will take the word of the kids who play or have played for him over a bunch of yahoos with pitchforks who’ve never played a sport(more than likely)

          • ToatsMcGoats says:

For me it was the lack of exposure to Kish that lead me to believe that there just wasn’t much to the guy. I never realized it until now, but I don’t think I’ve really seen any articles about him.

You were referring to the Kish bashing…right??

          • L'Carpetron Dookmarriot says:

Yeah. I’ve stated that I was underwhelmed by Tim, but was not “convinced” that he couldn’t coach or recruit. The defense seemed to have problems all over the place, from time to time. It’s hard for me to understand how the defensive issues gets whittled down to a Kish whack-a-mole doll.

          • ToatsMcGoats says:

Yeah, to say he’s the only problem on our D is definitely unfair. To be fair, though, Jerry Montgomery knows how it’s done. When you have two guys like Kish and Montgomery on the same staff, the contrast isn’t favorable for the invisible one. Monty’s all over the place, literally and figuratively, but we rarely hear anything from Kish and our LB depth is seemingly never adequate. I think this may have helped shed an unfavorable light on Kish as well.

          • Sooner Ray says:

  • Jaymou13 says:

Jordan – I asked this question sometime during the season, but it got a litlle lost in the regular season rush. I was wanting to know what “good” defense looks like in the light of all of the spread offense.
What should we, as fans, expect from a good defense. I think it would be a great topic for you guys to tackle in the off-season. I am sure your panel of experts would have some interesting thoughts.

One other note, just wanted to tell you I passed this site along to a long-time, former Oklahoma High School coach, who has sons coaching at the college level now, and he said he spends about 90 minutes a day on this site now. Absolutely loves it. Said breaking down film and looking for mis-matches was something he really missed about coaching. Just wanted to pass on the compliment!

    • Daddy R says:

28 pts or less. I’d say thats pretty solid D these days…

    • Jordan Esco says:

very, very cool re: that last paragraph

As far as the defense, personally I get kind of tired of everyone using the offenses in the Big 12 as an excuse for what many feel to be poor defensive play. I don’t think anyone w/ a brain is expecting OU to post five shutouts every year. But I also don’t think it’s unrealistic to expect them to play much, much better defense than they’ve played in the last couple years.

In Big 12 play, TCU averaged 19 points allowed per game and, IMO, I don’t think that’s an unrealistic number at all for an OU defense. I was initially going to say around 20 points even before I went and looked up that TCU stat.

There is no reason I can fathom, other than a decline in the quality of coaching, that OU shouldn’t be just as good of a defensive team as TCU.

      • boomersooner says:

tcu gave up right under 25 ppg in conference. every single team in this conference scores points. hard to play defense in this league week in and week out. the offenses are just that good. some say excuse. i say reason. no other conference, except maybe the pac 12, has to play this week in and week out
        Oklahoma W 37-33
        Baylor L 61-58
        Oklahoma State W 42-9
        Texas Tech W 82-27
        West Virginia W 31-30
        Kansas State W 41-20
        Kansas W 34-30
        Texas W 48-10
        Iowa State W 55-3

      • MoJoOkie says:

No offense, but it was actually 24.78 (TCU average). That’s with the defensive genius of Gary Patterson. So I’d say 20 is about right.

      • SoonerfanTU says:

TCU was also lucky. They didn’t have to play their own offense (best or second best in the conference), and both OU and UT’s offenses were far below par. So who in the Big 12 did they really face outside of Baylor?

    • soonerjunky says:

I don’t think a defense in the Big 12 should be ranked strictly on yards per game or even points per game (It helps). Instead, on how many blown coverage’s were there, or did the D come up with a big play on 3rd and long or did they allow a first down or a TD. When it’s tied late in the game and the opposing team is driving down the field, a “good” Big 12 Defense should come up with a big play. In summary, a “good” Big 12 team makes plays when needed to and doesn’t have blown assignments.

    • Bob Edwards says:

Well one thing to look at is how did we do in the Big-12? We were:
      #1 in rushing defense (good)
      #5 in total defense (meh)
      #6 in scoring defense (bleck)
#8 in pass defense and only .4 yds/game ahead of #9 (bad)

So our pass defense was bad even relative to other Big-12 schools.

Given our history we should be top 3 in all three categories in the Big-12. Heck, Switzer’s last championship team was #1 in all four categories in the nation. Our defense can definitely get better. If we can’t have good stats nationally, we should at least have good stats within the conference.

Sorry, I was never a fan of Lou. Too much homer nonsense. Respect his coaching achievements alot but he was never intended to be a broadcaster.

This could have an impact on other jobs……like the guy who cleaned Lou’s spit off the set. 🙂

  • Zack says:

In regard to lampkin this is why these kids OU is recruiting should trust the one constant in this area which is stoops. Stoops as far as I know has always ran a program with high integrity. Feel bad for the kid but this is part of the game and he should have committed to the head coach he liked most.

    • John Garner says:

You’re right about Bob, but head coaches leave too. He should have committed to the school he likes most.

    • Super Keith says:

Okay, I missed something. Are you talking about DuVante Lampkin? Did something happen with his recruiting (other than his decommitment from OU and eventual signing with Texas)?

      • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Texas D Line coach left for another job. The kid is pissed. But signed his LOI…tough luck now.

    • Indy_sooner says:

Read somewhere that he’s requesting a LOI release. I think the NCAA should have an exception for something such as this… IMO,
I would advice my kids to make a commitment should be made to the education and college and good sports program. A position coach is a plus, but kids need to realize that he can move any time. It’s the nature of the business.

This is why I’m not to concerned about his replacement. I think we will do just fine replacing him

    • rphokc says:

…..hoping walker stays healthy and turns it loose in ’15

    • JB says:

Since he was the best DT we had, I’m a little nervous about replacing him. Good news is that everyone is replaceable and sometimes these things work out just fine.

      • Zack says:

I think he was the most impressive looking DT but I think wade romar and dimon will fill in just fine they’ve got plenty of experience. Plus orso might get some time and then depending on gallimores knee injury I think he may play later in the season

        • hOUligan says:

Agree. His athleticism was his card, not his strength. But I saw him push plenty of centers back during the season. He was almost always dt’d. and that what he’s supposed to do, occupy multiple blockers.

          • Zack says:

I think he could have done a better job eating up double teams. I thought he was more concerned with pass rushing. But regardless of whether the other team is running or passing the number one thing a defense can do to slow their plan down is to penetrate and get in the backfield.
I want to see more double A gap blitz’ and mike figure out some creative ways to bring the 4th and 5th pass rushers

    • Kody K. says:

Yea, I was disappointed in him this year. Especially with all the hype of him being healthy finally and ready to tear it up. He didn’t turn it on last season.

  • Daddy R says:

Seriously though, a “BOOM” bumper sticker sounds awesome! Imagine the publicity…

  • Indy_sooner says:

Super excited on Seibert. My favorite commit in this class and #1 punter in the country

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBPpou6_tck&feature=youtu.be

    • JB says:

That would be interesting to have a double duty punter and kicker again. The hang time on his first punt was 4.79 seconds and the second was 4.94 seconds, if I timed it right. That is fantastic.

      • Daddy R says:

are they planning to use him as both?

        • JB says:

With hang times like that, I hope so!

        • Sooner Ray says:

Stoops said he would like to but it depended on how he handled the load. Made it sound as if they kick so much in practice, it might be too much. I think the kid has what it takes to do it.

          • hOUligan says:

Got the impression they were going to let him try it. Think Stoops wants his FG kicker ready to hit that game winner and his punter ready to kick 2 in a row with some authority when needed. ; > ) He’s still smarting from the whole kicking thing this past season.

        • RBear says:

In his interview, he explained that his body type is different than most kickers and that he’s able to take the grind/wear/repetition required of doing both.

    • Jed says:

That first one he kicks kept getting smaller and smaller. I thought it was just going to disappear.

  • Steve Johns says:

Looks like ole Charlie will be doing some damage control with Lampkin. Sure would like to see him tell the horns to kiss off and come to OU – highly doubtful he’d want to sit out a year though.

    • Zack says:

Charlie is doing a lot to make the hs coaches in Texas raise their eye brows. Maybe stoops knew with strong and his desire to go after Florida kids, that he needed to get more focused on Texas and convince the best players to come to OU

      • JB says:

Charlie might be on to something recruiting out of Florida. Would like to see OU recruit Florida harder.

        • Steve Johns says:

He already had established relationships in FL, hope he focuses his efforts there. We need to get back to being the 1st or 2nd choice of TX recruits.

          • JB says:

I hope for the opposite…I don’t want ut loading up on Florida talent. They were doing just fine, losing to us regularly over the past 16 years, focusing almost exclusively on Texas talent. I don’t want to see ut get better and start beating us more often than not. They need to stick with Texas players.

          • Steve Johns says:

He’s not going to get top talent out of FL, I don’t believe any Big 12 team is.

          • JB says:

You mean like 4* WR John Burt, 4* DT Devonaire Clarington, 4* CB Davante Davis? Looks pretty good to me. Besides, I’d be more confident in a FL 3* over a Texas 5* any day.

          • Steve Johns says:

I should’ve said “consistently” and I totally disagree about a 3* FL being better than a 5* in TX. Just my opinion.

          • JB says:

I base that opinion on the number of NCs by Florida schools vs Texas schools and the higher number of Florida players in the NFL than Texas even though Texas has the most HS football players in the country at 161,000/yr, vs Florida which only has 38,000 HS players/yr. Of course, Cali (104,000/yr) still produces the most NFL talent of all. Teams with more NFL caliber talent win national championships (e.g. Bama, Ohio St, FSU, etc.). The ULLs and CMUs of the world do not.

          • Steve Johns says:

One of the things I like most about this site is we can have differing opinions and choose whether or not to debate. Movin’ on….

        • Zack says:

Texas shouldn’t recruit Florida too much imo but they’re welcome to that will leave a lot of them wanting to go to OU still to beat Texas

    • JB says:

      I haven’t heard…what happened?

      • Steve Johns says:

Read down… seems Lampkin is unhappy about being lied to.

        • JB says:

I see now…but I don’t see what the big deal is. How is this different from us with Simmons and Cooks? Would we be outraged if we fired Kish 2 days after signing day? Of course not! I think most of us are clamoring for it. Should we release McGinnis or DeBerry if that happened? No! We’d replace Kish, very likely with someone better, and I’d bet they’d be fine with the new coach. Do you think those LBs would be upset if we brought in someone like Randy Shannon? I sincerely doubt it.

          • Steve Johns says:

Read down further, Lampkin was supposedly told by the coach that he wasn’t leaving. That’s what he’s pissed about.

  • John Garner says:

Hey I saw previews to a new Christian movie at the theater yesterday and the Boz is in it. He looks good.

  • Stephen says:

Dallis Todd is going to thrive in this new system. Watched his film again and he has a lot more agility than I thought.

    • Steve Johns says:

Some fans seem to have counted him out because he didn’t play last year. I agree, he’s gonna be a playmaker.

      • Lane Gilstrap says:

He was my favorite receiver recruit last year. I’d really like to see him on the field.

  • Jordan Esco says:

    couple quick updates added

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

It’s funny how colleges don’t honor their contracts with coaches sometimes and coaches don’t honor their contracts with colleges sometimes but we expect the kids to honor their contracts no matter what.

  • Steve Johns says:

Can’t remember ever having 7 Sooners at the combine.

  • Jason Vos says:

Jeffery Mead is the guy with the highest ceiling as far as WR’s go, I bet you see him dominate this year

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

You know coaches contracts can be bought out. A player can’t buy theirs out. If a player transfers they lose a year of eligibility. Maybe to be fair if a college fires a coach before their contract is up they shouldn’t be able to hire another one for a year. Or if a coaches contract gets bought out they shouldn’t be able to coach at another school for a year. I know, I’m being rediculous but I feel for these kids that commit and can’t leave without penalties like coaches can.

    • Daddy R says:

Or maybe if a position coach leaves, a kid in that position can have eligibility hit lifted if he wants to transfer… Could put a cap on it too at 1 or 2.

    • Bob Edwards says:

I agree with your sentiment. I think the better solution is probably to allow the kid to put three names on his NLI. If any of those people leave before he gets on campus, he has a certain period of time to sign a letter with a different school. Probably, need to restrict it to schools other than where the coach is going to prevent him from taking all his recruits with him.

      • Lane Gilstrap says:

Or maybe only let him go to where that coach is going.

        • Bob Edwards says:

Problem with that is someone coming along and hiring someone like Monty and getting him to bring all his recruits with him. The way I suggest let’s the kid have a chance to reset things without letting the coach and the new school profit from the change.

          • Lane Gilstrap says:

I see what your saying. Never thought of it like that.

          • Bob Edwards says:

Yeah, its tricky. Any change you make you have to think how anyone in the situation can profit from it. Need to be fair to the kid, the coach and the school. In the end though I would tend to favor the kid because he profits the least from the changes.

          • Lane Gilstrap says:

            100% agree

      • Daddy R says:

        Interesting..

        • Daddy R says:

I like your thought Bob. So pick 3, put a star by the one you plan to attend, and then if something falls through with coaching, then the other two are alternates if they still have room..

          • Bob Edwards says:

That would work except for scholarship limits. The other two may not have schollys at that point. I think it better to let him just open it up again.

          • BleedCrimson says:

            I would agree with that

          • Daddy R says:

Well then my only counter point to listing 3 on the NLI would be then, recruiting the kid would never end until he enrolls somewhere. Not sure coaches have that much time available to make that happen. Recruiting has to end at some point for a class right?

It could work with just listing 1 on NLI and then use your reasoning for rest of it..

          • Daddy R says:

I think I read your post wrong..

          • Daddy R says:

You mean 3 names as in coaches? not schools. Okay. I got ya now!

          • Bob Edwards says:

            Yep/

          • Bob Edwards says:

Well I suggested it opens for a time say 30 days from when the coaching change is announced. If he signed a second one then it would only trigger a reopen if one of those coaches left. Since most coaching changes occur between end of season and start of spring practice, it would be rate that a kid did more than one.

          • MoJoOkie says:

I think early signing may help your argument. Coaches would likely be let go/leave sooner and then the renegotiations could start.

          • Bob Edwards says:

            Agreed

      • SamSooner says:

This is the most logic I’ve seen applied to this topic. Great post.

        • Bob Edwards says:

That’s why it will never happen with the NCAA. They stopped caring about the players a long time ago.

          • Daddy R says:

Well at some point the P5 conferences are going to be making ALL the decisions for themselves anyway. So maybe logic and welfare can creep back in?

          • Bob Edwards says:

We can only hope. A full ride is a pretty good deal, but given the amount of work these kids put in and amount of money the schools are making off their labors, they don’t get a very big percentage of it. Then the NCAA restricts their ability to shop their services in the market place so they can’t really get a better deal.

      • JB says:

So we shouldn’t have taken McKinney or Green?

        • Lane Gilstrap says:

They had not signed NLI’s yet so their commit was only verbal.

        • BoomerDave says:

What does any of that have to do with McKinney or Green?

        • Bob Edwards says:

They never signed NLI anywhere but OU so it really doesn’t apply to the discussion. With regard to their switching because their coach was coming here, I don’t know enough of what went on to be able to say. Only the players and the coaches no what was said and when about their leaving or staying.

      • hOUligan says:

Interesting idea. I think a kid should be committing to a ‘school’ but the relationship with their recruiter or position coach is sometimes so strong that it is really the main pull. Could see something like that added, 1 coaches name maybe 2, and maybe add the alternate school so it isn’t dragged out.

  • BoomerDave says:

I’m really curious as to which coach Lampkin claims lied to his face. Rumph or Strong?

  • Chris White says:

Haha Nick Marshall has no chill

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

Scout.com named Jerry Montgomery Big 12 recruiter of the year.

  • Glocal Sooner says:

So which seniors with any playing time didn’t get an invite to the NFL combine? Savage, Evans, Hayes, and Honeycutt? Am I leaving anyone out?

    • Jordan Esco says:

Chuka, and Hunnicutt if you want to throw him in

      • Sooner Ray says:

Do kickers ever do the combine or do they usually go the pro day route? Never really noticed.

        • JD says:

most kickers don’t even get drafted (there are a few)..they get picked up FA…my guess is they mainly look at stats because kickers only match up is with a ball and will actually fit any system…just put it thru the uprights lol…guess they might clock hang times since I’m not sure that’s a stat that’s recorded

          • Daddy R says:

Is it next year NFL is thinking of shrinking goal post gap?

          • JD says:

I think they shrunk it for the pro bowl and could be using that as a testing ground for future changes…they moved the extra point back during preseason and have a significant more missed xps…inside the the 40 kicks are almost guarantees so they might try to make accuracy more important than distance…we’ll see…so far I think it was just a pro bowl experiment

      • Dustin says:

I can definitely see Hunni getting a tryout in about Week 9 after some team’s kicker gets a case of the shanks.

    • Zack says:

      Ndulue and rip

    • JD says:

      Barnett

  • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

Great news about Mixon. Kid took responsibility for a bad decision and is working his tail off to get back into the good graces of the community. Hope his story turns out to be one of Sooner redemption.

    • Lane Gilstrap says:

Totally agree. Seems like a genuinely good kid that had a terrible lapse of judgement. Hope he lives up to the hype and compliments Optimus Perine.

      • JJSoona says:

Wow, the RB cupboard is sooooo impressive. I am stoked to see what Coach Riley can do with what we have and who’s coming…….

        • Sam Sherwood says:

Run the wishbone triple option. Our stable of RB’s are much better playmakers than all our receivers. Get them all on the field.

          …. ok…. I’m only half-serious…

          • JJSoona says:

I think the jury is still out on them. The staff changes will be evident soon enough. I have no issues with any of Coach Stoops choices. My only wish not true is Jim Leavitt but he deserved a DC position.

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Love everyone and Kish closed strong or so its seems. But any reason why Kish was the only coach not on the recruiting show?

    • OkieRandolph says:

Yep, hopefully he continues to do what he has done since the day he got in trouble. A lot of folks have forgotten that back in the early days of the Stoops regime, that Dusty Dvorecek actually had a much worse incident when he and his BEST friend got drunk and Dusty broke a beer bottle over his head and the cut was so bad, his friend was close to bleeding to death. Well, for all you Mixon haters, Stoops kicked Dusty off the team for a year, and he had to do all the things Mixon did plus do alcohol and anger treatment sessions. He was given a 2nd chance and he eventually played well enough to make a short career in the NFL and now is a host on a local radio show. Yes, Mixon did wrong and made a BAD mistake, but so far is deserving of a 2nd chance.

      • JJSoona says:

Absolutely agree. I love how far Dusty has come. He manned up and got his act together. Huge Success. Joe Mixon is following in his damage control footsteps and has done wonderfully. He’s earned my respect. He’s becoming a man right in front of us.

  • Randy says:

I bet Grissom makes some money during the combine. He will be impressive.

    • Zack says:

Hope he’s healthy. I agree though if he’s still banged up then he should wait til his pro day

    • BoomerDave says:

I hope so. But I heard an NFL scout on Teddy Lehman’s radio show on KREF who was reporting from the Senior Bowl, or which ever post-season bowl that Grissom and Phillips were at, and he said that Phillips and Grissom were 2 of the worst performers that week and most scouts were very disappointed in their play. He said Phillips was flat-out lazy and that both of those guys techniques were horrible. He mentioned specifically their high pad levels and their inability to use their hands properly. He said they had not been coached well. Don’t shoot me, I’m just the messenger.

      • OceanDescender says:

I don’t think Jordan Phillips was invited to a showcase bowl game, was he?

      • bmrsnr says:

Phillips wasn’t a senior. Williams and Grissom were at the senior bowl.

      • Herman Bubbert says:

That was the rap against Monty at Michigan – better recruiter than a field coach.

        • bmrsnr says:

Except Phillips wasn’t at a post season bowl, let alone the senior.

        • Steve Johns says:

Never once heard that. Highly doubt that Bob would’ve hired him if he couldn’t coach his position and certainly wouldn’t have promoted him.

      • rphokc says:

….I heard the former puke olineman, sam mayes, with similar observations about the ou dlinemen in general this past yr…….I don’t recall if tfb has commented on mont’s coaching……….if he hasn’t to date, perhaps jy could write about this at some point

      • Randy says:

Maybe, I still think Grissom will be drafted higher than people think.

  • lebval15 says:

No surprise that Bama and FSU have the most players at the combine but a little suprised to see Louisville (4 losses), Florida (5 losses), Miami (7 losses), and us as the next 4..

    https://twitter.com/OU_Football/status/563810115896082432

    • Zack says:

Florida and Miami are always going to have quality athletes with nfl speed regardless of their records. OU and stoops have a ton of prestige and even players who aren’t considered elite somehow make it in the nfl. Look at jefferson and Stephenson who feel they should have gone higher in the draft. I think both start now

    • JJSoona says:

No wonder the new UT coach was successful there.

  • SamSooner says:

Okay, so watch the Haskins’ hudl film again. Accept, don’t watch Haskins. Take a look at number 55, the right tackle. Who is that kid? Good motor, seems nasty, quick, good hips, and he adjusts to the different pass rushes.

    Who is that kid?

    Jordan, do you know?

    • Sooner 76 says:

HS football is very different in Maryland. Very small crowds. There is so much to do in the area that only the familes of the players and few others attend the games. It is not like Oklahoma and Texas. They often have as many people, if not more, at the soccer games, which I refereed.

  • BoomerDave says:

Anyone else hear Robert Allen this morning on the Franchise? He said that OSU has a scholarship numbers problem and will most likely ask the one WR in this class (McCleskey, or something similar to that) to gray-shirt. That’s not too cool.

    • Zack says:

Well did they end up having some sanctions from that whole SI thing? I don’t have a problem with them being one guy over in a signing class. There could be a guy not qualify or another guy screw up this offseason that gets suspended and has his scholly yanked or a transfer. It’s the sec who over sign like 3 guys each year and ask them to gray shirt.
For me if you’re going to ask a player to gray shirt make it an in state kid. His tuition and everything will be less but to ask an out of state guy to gray shirt sucks

      • BoomerDave says:

It’s not related to any scholarship sanctions. Just took one too many. I agree for the most part that one ship could well open up by fall practice. But will it open up in time for summer school for summer workouts? I haven’t heard whether the kid is OK with this or not.

  • Matt says:

good news guys… i was just able to access the site for the first time today. once i read through this open post, i’ll finally be able to start work.

    • hOUligan says:

You too? Could not get on this AM either but didn’t see anyone else so figured it was my ‘puter.

      • Matt says:

yeah, it’s been a horrible day. refreshing for the last 7.5 hours. at least i’ll be able to get a half hour of work in today.

  • hOUligan says:

Question as a few of you guys are hs coaches and many of you watch a lot of high caliber hs football. Are a lot of hs teams running some version of the spread now? Easier to recruit to with QBs WRs playing in it and olinemen used to the blocking schemes?

  • rphokc says:

……..I don’t know a lot about the new riley o, but I think this guy will fit in………

    ……..https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJPyB7gqmKA

    • Sooner Ray says:

Get someone on the phone! We need to get this kid. 🙂

    • Sooner Ray says:

Mixon has so much lateral quickness, vision, and balance, if he doesn’t have ball security issues, I think we could see him returning punts.

      • rphokc says:

……well, I hope we have somebody actually returning punts

        • Sooner Ray says:

Exactly. We are deep enough at RB, If he can do it I would love to see him get back there.

          • Zack says:

Let brooks do it. But if I see shep or Sanchez back there I’m going to be disappointed.

          • Sooner Ray says:

            You and me both.

          • Boomer4life says:

Is he as fast as Ford?

          • Sooner Ray says:

Maybe not as fast, but I don’t see Bob putting Ford back there with his ball security problem.

          • soonermusic says:

I know Ford had a previous history with ball security, but prior to his injury, this season he was 100% ball secure. I think the distraction of coming back from injury was a big contributor to his renewed issue with ball security and wouldn’t be surprised to see him have it under control again by next season.

      • JD says:

I think it will be Westbrook

        • Sooner Ray says:

We have options. will be fun to see who ends up with the job.

        • RBear says:

          or his ‘lil bro

          • Sooner Ray says:

I hope he ends up being our secret weapon.

          • RBear says:

he very well may be… i’d hate to game plan against us next year, almost feel sorry for the first few teams we face (not really).

          • Daddy R says:

Anyone ever put 5 RB’s on field at once? lol

          • Defend Colfax says:

His name was Switzer and it was on defense.

          • JD says:

I really like Sims and what he will bring..that said I think they will redshirt him for a few reasons..1 to add some bulk and 2 because they usually wait until year 3 to give schollys to walk-ons because I think if you do it sooner they will count against the recruiting class they came in with and that would hinder our ability to bring in some EEs next for our small class…if he’s comes in and lights up the PR duties then there will be pressure to give him a scholly…he can sit a year and come in year two and earn the scholly for year three…jmo

      • SoonerFan16 says:

Maybe even see Tito Windham back there. Small and shifty.

      • Daddy R says:

Love how quickly he turns upfield at the slightest opportunity..
He’s good at making you think he’s going sideways, then, ZIP, he gone; right up the field past you.

      • Fear The Magic says:

        we return punts?

    • RBear says:

eff-ort-less, flu-id… holy smokes I love Cale Gundy!!!

I could prob keep adding to this post all night- his instincts are off the chart…

He and Perine are going to be delivering a lot of punishment- opponents will get worn the &*%$ out.

Could we possibly get an exemption from the NCAA next year to put two balls in play per offensive snap?

    • Easton says:

uh yeah. This could be a take you by storm like a couple of other offenses in the Big12 were last season, offense.

    • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

This is why I’m glad recruiting was not like it is now when I played, with all this video recording and film and highlight tapes. Because I would most certainly be one of the stumpy little goofs floundering at Mixon’s feet. In fact, I bet I would’ve made several highlight tapes in my day.

    • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Yep. Dangerous. Remember how USC used Bush out of the back field? swing passes, wheel routes? Love Jones, Ross, but Perine and Mixon….Westbrook and Shepard….Big 12 title… and more…

    • Kevin says:

He seems to do the run backwards as he reverses direction thing like Demarco Murray used to do. I think he’ll fit right in.

  • j l says:

Does anyone know the exact date for the spring game? Friends and I hadnt planned on going, we thought construction was supposed to be going on. With that not starting at the end of last season, assuming the spring game is on.

    • Jordan Esco says:

It hasn’t officially been set yet. Speculation is it will be April 11, but that’s just people guessing based on years past.

  • Atlantasooner says:

Chris Daniels of Euless Trinity HUDL Film.

    http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2065514/highlights/225103377

    I like. A lot.

  • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

    Dallis Stills and Dede Saunders?

  • Sooner Ray says:

I wish they would burn the blue jerseys this spring and tell the QB’s, you want this job?, get out there and show us you can do it.

    • SoonerPhins says:

Seems a little asinine. What if you found the right QB and then the next play he gets demolished and is out for the season? What if all the QB drop like flies?

      • Sooner Ray says:

What if all the RB’s, LB’s, WR’s, TE’s, etc,. go down in practice? None of them wear jerseys. It’s FOOTBALL. I’m not saying do it all season, just until you find the best guy that runs the O under pressure, real speed. Sometimes these 7 on 7 drills don’t tell the whole story.

      • boomersooner says:

Yeah I’d tend to agree. You usually have your starter and someone you have confidence in as a backup. You wouldn’t want your starter out for the yr trying to prove a point

      • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

I wouldn’t say it’s “asinine”. I mean, we are talking football. And the QB is wearing a helmet. And shoulder pads. And presumably has a pair of thunder oysters. So…

        • boomersooner says:

How I look at it is, how would you explain losing your starter in April to this crew of yahoos on here who complain they had to hear about coaching moves from the new coaches instead of from a live breaking news press conference

          • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

Yeah, that’s true. I would explain it like this:

“Hey, y’all. Our starting QB is out. Because football.” 🙂

          • boomersooner says:

Haha. Ok. I change my vote. Haha

          • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

Lol! It’s a boring Friday night for me. Just saw the word “asinine” and had to bite, I guess.

    • Lane Gilstrap says:

It’s just never going to happen. It just wouldn’t be smart. I just wish they don’t drag this qb competition all the way til a week before the season.

    • Boomer4life says:

      Lol! You workin’em up Ray.

      • Sooner Ray says:

It’s the slow season…..need a little fire under the pot. 🙂

        • Boomer4life says:

I’ll need a couple of hobbies to get through this off-season.

          • BleedCrimson says:

Mine will be reloading and target shooting. Any suggestions for target pics?

          • boomersooner says:

several people on here would be a good start

          • BleedCrimson says:

Point and click… Point and click…

          • boomersooner says:

there you go. duck hunt style. not real life 🙂

          • BleedCrimson says:

Actually, Got a new 260 that I am working some loads up on. Looks like this weekend am gonna be able to hit the range.

          • boomersooner says:

is that a rifle? over my head with the guns. always wanted to learn. never had the time. sports was my life. now the kiddos are my life

          • Sooner Ray says:

It’s not the most common, but a rifle round yes.

          • EasTex says:

Only been around as a factory load for 18 years.
If I ever add anything else to my collection, it will have to be a round I already have not a new one.

          • Sooner Ray says:

That’s me, stick to the loads that can be picked up at the local store or that I alread have.

          • EasTex says:

If I were to go with a new load, not saying I am, I do have some interest in the WSSMs. Love my .300WinMag, but the long action vs the short action of the WSSMs does appeal to me.

          • Sooner Ray says:

I have some interest in building a .300 blackout sometime.

          • EasTex says:

            Nice and add a suppressor.

          • Sooner Ray says:

I’ve shot one suppressed, that’s what hooked me. They aren’t bad straight out the barrel either if you go sub sonic.

          • EasTex says:

No they aren’t, but a suppressed subsonic round is awesome, you don’t need to wear ear plugs.

          • Sooner Ray says:

Yeah, shot that setup standing next to a metal building……sounded like a pellet gun. In fact the action was the loudest part of the shot.

          • EasTex says:

            Exactly.
Modern suppressors are amazing, they even make them for shotguns now.

          • BleedCrimson says:

            Yes, Distance target shooting…

          • BleedCrimson says:

Plus, my son is now off in college, so I picked up a new hobby… Love it so far.

          • boomersooner says:

cool. how far back you good? chris kyle good yet?

          • EasTex says:

Before there was Chris Kyle as America’s greatest sniper, there was GySgt Carlos “White Feather” Hathcock.
            http://www.modernamericanheroes.com/2010/07/13/the-story-of-legendary-sniper-carlos-hathcock/

          • Sooner Ray says:

Seen a story on him once, quite a soldier.

          • EasTex says:

            He was a great Marine.
The one action he took that made him great was saving a bunch of Marines from a burning personnel carrier. He kept going back inside to rescue them and got burned very badly in the process.
His sniper shot of 2500 yards was the world record for 30 years and he made it with a Browning M2 that he mounted a scope on.

          • boomersooner says:

phenomenal article. thank you for sharing that. very good read. i’m gonna get that marine sniper book too

          • EasTex says:

            He was an amazing man.
Springfield Armory made a special version of their M1A1 in honor of Carlos, it was the M25 Whitefeather.
            http://www.tactical-life.com/firearms/gun-test-springfield-armory-m25-whitefeather-308/

          • boomersooner says:

wow. that looks awesome. thanks for all the info. have been writing some of these previous guns people have mentioned to do research on and now these you’ve said to maybe get a start on. lot to do. night to you too

          • EasTex says:

It’s all new, but like anything else can be learned.
            /night

          • Sooner Ray says:

Go to a gun club, range, dealer, etc., shoot some different guns, get some instruction. The few bucks it costs will be money well spent and not only will you buy something you like, you will feel more comfortable with it.

          • EasTex says:

            Y’all be excellent.
I have to hit the bunk.

          • EasTex says:

Started shooting when I was six. Got my first .410 shotgun when I was seven and never looked back.
Shot Service Match in the USAF and have helped arm and train dozens of people over the years that had never fired a weapon.
As happy as shooting and hunting have made me over the years, the most giggles and smiles I ever got was firing the M2 .50 BMG. For me total happiness is a belt fed weapon.

          • boomersooner says:

            50 cal?

          • EasTex says:

            Yes, the .50BMG(Browning Machine Gun).
You are in Utah, right? You should pay a visit to the home of the greatest gun designer genius in history, John Moses Browning. It’s in Ogden.
            http://theunionstation.org/museums-2/john-m-browning-firearms-museum/

          • boomersooner says:

that’s sounds awesome. have to check it out. what would suggest a person start out shooting?

          • EasTex says:

A .22 rifle. Guns and ammo are cheap, don’t kick at all and you can really develop your marksmanship with them. It’s 1-2-3 -4easy= posture/breathing/sight alignment and trigger control.
I’m still more prone to take my .22 out for some fun time than just about anything else.

          • boomersooner says:

and shoot at beer cans or pigeons or knee caps 🙂 or targets and how far away

          • EasTex says:

            Targets, beer guns or bottles.
I would keep the target between 50 and 100 yards.
If you have some place to go shoot in the country that is good, or a private/public range.

          • boomersooner says:

what pistol would you recommend to a starter outer?

          • EasTex says:

A revolver chambered for .357, because you can also shoot .38Special in it which is not as loud and is much cheaper. They never malfunction, no buttons or switches and you can load them and leave them alone for years.
Don’t get a semi-auto unless you are going to train and train and train, because just when you think you have it down, that’s when you need to train some more. Also, you should never load a magazine full and leave it laying there for an extended period of time, as the mag spring loses its strength from being compressed.
A note about ammo, if you are looking for a weapon for home/personal protection, I always go with subsonic rounds(muzzle velocity under 1000feet per second) like a .45ACP or .38Sp. You torch off a supersonic round inside an enclosed area like a room or car and you can seriously damage your hearing.

          • boomersooner says:

so the 357 can also shoot 38’s? are these both 6 shooters? do they have a safety catch? i’m thinking about one of those fingerprint type gun safes next to the bed but don’t know yet. i’m retired so figure it could be something to pass some time when i need a second away from spongebob and frickin elmo

          • EasTex says:

Yes, the .357 and the .38Sp are the exact same projectile, the magnum just has a longer case with more propellant.
I don’t call them six shooters anymore, I call them revolvers or wheel guns, as you can find modern .357s that will hold eight rounds. Taurus has a great line up of them and they come with a life time warranty.
The safety on a revolver is the trigger. Once it’s loaded, it only goes bang when you pull the trigger. All guns now come with a silly little lock built in that you can use if you want, they provide a tiny allen wrench device for it which I always throw away.

          • WilliamJack says:

There’s a fair amount of “pre-lock” guns out there which i much prefer.
I like a decocker instead of a safety on my pistols as well.

          • boomersooner says:

can you explain this please? or have a link that explains it?

          • EasTex says:

If he knew enough buying a used gun would be great, being a novice picking up a modern new one might be the safest route to go.
I don’t have anything with a decocker and have been leery of them since the early days of the Beretta 92 when there were many NDs from people using them.
I prefer no safeties and as few buttons/switches as possible. Love the new S&W M&P models, you can get them with or w/o safeties.

            Please don’t say “clip”.
            /i beg you

          • Sooner Ray says:

Sorry, I sometimes interchange the “clip” for Mag. Find it in your heart to forgive me.

Knew a guy once who was installing a CB radio in his pickup and needed a hole from inside the truck to the roof mounted antenna. (You know where this going, right?) Used his 357 to make the hole. Inside the truck with the windows rolled up. I’ve had some really dumb in-laws.

          • EasTex says:

            I, uh…I don’t know about some folks, I just don’t.

          • WilliamJack says:

Smith & Wesson K frame with a 4 inch barrel, “pre-lock” Combat Magnum is my favorite shooter. Have several pistols and revolvers
45, 22, 38, 357. Ditto what you say about the wheel guns for novices. Put a set of Crimson Trace laser grips on it and you’re set to go.

          • EasTex says:

Love the old K frames. Had a Model 15 Combat Masterpiece, the same gun as the Model 16 Magnum only in .38. Perfectly balanced and accurate.

          • Sooner Ray says:

Try to find a hunter safety/ shooting class, take your kids for some fun. I remember doing some when I was a kid. They provide the guns and ammo and teach you how to handle them. I was taught at a very young age so my instructors were amazed and maybe a little pissed when I out shot them on the range.

Actual Sooner fans came to the rescue and informed him they were trolls and fans of another Big 12 program and he couldn’t believe people actually do that.

Can any of the Brainiacs discuss what position our current DC will coach. Mike seems like a man without a spot to coach. Would it be fair to say he could no longer be a part of the staff in a week or two? Maybe even probable?

    • Sooner Ray says:

It appears he is getting a butt load of money to watch our LB, secondary, and DL coaches do their jobs. Pretty good gig if you ask me.

    • JD says:

It would appear that he doesn’t have a position title besides co Dcord…not all coordinators have to be position coaches also…might be good for him to take a step back and look at the group as a whole rather than trying to coach the safeties as well…it’s fair to say he might not be here but I doubt it would be true…I think we all have a good idea who our new additions are and I doubt we see further changes

      • OUzaudioman says:

        Thanks for the response JD…

Here are my thoughts…If this is the case it would seem as though Mike and Bob would have basically the same job when it came to working with the D. I know Bob has been basically the “overseer” of the D while Mike and BJW have worked on techniques and positioning (DB’s) in the past. Obviously Bob has a lot more on his plate but it just seems with Bob’s background as a DCoor. that that job would be a little redundant. It would also appear to me that Mike would trump Monty as the DC without have any position to coach. Which I’m really not of fan of that perception. Personally I’d rather have an expert at a certain position…but I’m sure Bob has his reasons.

        • JD says:

At the end of the day Bob and Mike will be brainstorming to get the defensive game plan for the weeks game…with the other coaches of corse and coordinating with the other coaches to get them all on the same page…Monty will have an extended role at doing this too but make no mistake that he was likely given a bump to keep him on board since he is an obvious recruiting power…perhaps he’ll get even more bump in the next year or two when suitors call…that’s just my take on it anyways

    • JR says:

Personally, I think it is a win-win. Bob needs to focus on the ENTIRE team not just defense. If Mike is not over 1 position group he is able to oversee the entire defense throughout practice. I would love if that was also the case on offense but I know the coaching staff doesn’t work out that way this year.

    • Jordan Esco says:

At this point nobody outside the Switzerland Center really knows.

    • Bob Edwards says:

I hear the new DB coaching has come up with this new technique for DB’s. It’s called tackling. Once he has taught that to MIke, Mike is going back to coaching safeties.

    • Shawn Cummings says:

I know i might be alone on this, but IMO Mike was never the problem. I think it got to the point where he felt he had to do more because of inept assistant/positional coaches. Since they are bringing in better coaches, Mike will do just fine. Then again, this is a cut throat business…

      • soonerthunder says:

i thought we’d be better this year b/c I believed the hype that MS had too much to attend to, coaching all 5 DBs by himself and calling the plays in ’13. they moved BJW back to coach corners to allow MS just to coach safeties and call D plays. Didn’t seem to me like it worked any better at all. It was bjw and monty both coaching 3 down DL the yr before.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

There are lots of coaches that are only OC’s or DC’s. I have no idea what will happen, but it wouldn’t be completely unheard of if he just coordinated the defense.

  • Brien Brown says:

I read and heard that they said every champion since 1998 had 2 top 10 classes prior too them winning a championship. I do believe and this isn’t a knock on OU had pretty ok classes before the 2000 championship. I can’t remember them getting big names or being ranked very high in recruiting services. Memory serves me correct the first Stoops class was like 25-27 range. I get their making a point that recruiting is key and it is but, I don’t think their statement is correct as far as all teams since 98. I could be wrong won’t be last time.

So to liven up the place, who do you all think will be the starting 4 Wr’s? I’m going to say Todd, Quick, Andrews (yes, I know he’s a TE/H, which makes it more exciting) and going to go out on a limb here and say Shepard.

    • Daddy R says:

      I’ll bite:
      Shep
      Westbrook
      Green
      Todd/Mead/Andrews

    • ToatsMcGoats says:

      Shep, Quick, Westbrook, Andrews/Smallwood

    • JD says:

I can’t decide…I know Shep will be out there…and gonna guess Quick and DeDe in the mix for two spots…Andrews, Todd, Mead….heck I really like Green…and Miller too…outside wr is hard to determine…haven’t really seen anything other than hs highlights…going off of them I like Andrews, Green, and Mead prob the best

    • EasTex says:

Was the 2008 team’s offense more physically talented than the players we have now?
I don’t think so, but it sure had a great QB.
Was the style of offense what made the players look so good?
Looking back it certainly resembles what we might expect in 2015.
I think the team was talented on both sides of the ball.
More than anything with a championship caliber team it is that they believe in themselves, what they are doing and being confident.

      • Easton says:

Wow. Amazing team. Stoops and the Sooners are one awesome combination, for the ages.

      • soonermusic says:

The wr corp in 2008 included Manuel Johnson, Juaquin Iglesias, and Ryan Broyles. And, oh by the way, Jemaine Gresham. Couple other guys were stud route runners and receivers as well (Chaney, Tennell). And DeMarco was superior as a route runner and receiver also. Route running and target wise, our current qb’s were severely handicapped by comparison. I’m tempted to say not even close. Makes a huge difference. JMHO of course. So many guys that just didn’t seem to be ready this past year. Let’s hope you are correct about the 2015 potential. It looks possible from this vantage point. I think that one difference could be the game changer all the way around.

    • Zack says:

Shep is obvious then westbrook will be the next sure bet. I think quick and Smallwood will be next. Riley will see Smallwood and have to give him a shot. Then Neal, near, andrews and Todd. I think people should be excited about the receivers

    • SoonerfanTU says:

Wow, not a lot of love for Neal. Given his talent, and the fact that he is a senior next year with more experience than any OU WR except Shepard, I say he is one of the four. I’d say Shepard, Westbrook, Quick, and Neal, with Todd/Humphrey next in line.

      • Stephen says:

I just think he’s the odd man out. If you look at the past Lincoln Riley offenses, they’ve had multiple big WR’s that can go over the middle. There’s no way, at least in my opinion we play 4 small guys. If we did, Westbrook would be the biggest guy on the field. Not to knock Neal, but I just think he’s going to have to settle being a rotation guy.

  • ToatsMcGoats says:

To play off of Stephen’s comment, who do you all think the secondary will consist of next season? Also, do you think Byrd or Thomas will see time at LB next season?

    • Daddy R says:

I have no idea on that one. I’m confused about our defense, generally. Wish I knew which direction it was going.

    • Sooner Ray says:

Parker, Sanchez,……….let me get back to you on that. 🙂

    • ToatsMcGoats says:

At CB I would say Sanchez and Thomas. Beyond that, I’m stuck. I do think that Parker will start at safety, but not sure about everything else. I do think one of the two (Byrd,Thomas) will play some at LB next season.

      • Daddy R says:

I could easily see some incoming freshman battling for a starting spot at both Safety and Corner, but esp safety.

    • OceanDescender says:

I think Will Johnson takes the “Kass Everett”position in the defensive backfield. Mbanasor will fight for and probably win the spot opposite of Sanchez IMO (or Jordan Thomas, I think they’re a toss up come fall) and I’m almost hoping someone comes out of nowhere to take Hayes’ safety spot rather having to stick with Thomas or Byrd there. Love those guys but that experiment didn’t go so well.

    • boomersooner says:

      sunderland, parker, pj, sanchez, jt

    • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

I could see either Byrd or Thomas eat themselves into LB play. Both seemed so stiff in their hips last season.

    • Hotrod33 says:

As long as they play them a lot. The coaching staff last year played some freshmen for a few games then you didn’t see them at all. Mead comes to mind. Quick was another for the early part of the season. Then he started playing quite a bit. They should of played and/or started Parker and Quick at the beginning. Those two are playmakers that can make a difference. I am hoping this coaching staff will utilize the talent they have.

      • ToatsMcGoats says:

It was still a departure from seasons past when NONE of the back ups got playing time…even in mop up duty. Hopefully this is a trend that we will see more of.

      • boomersooner says:

yeah but some guys may not fully show that they are “getting it” in practice. that’s where i think it scares coaches a bit. i think i remembered hearing quick had the dropsies early on, for example

        • ToatsMcGoats says:

I’m very interested in seeing what type of impact this coaching change has on our WR’s. Hopefully the route trees are better and the blocking stays the same, or improves.

          • boomersooner says:

yeah i’m not sure where to go and who was not doing what in games. i’d have to refer to the knowledge of k or someone who sees that stuff easily on film. i can see some stuff but not a ton. so yes yo tambien on the interest of the impact. hopefully we have clean get offs(that’s what she said), clean routes, awesome diversification of said routes, gnarly mixtures of routes, and a complete befuddlement and discombobulation of every single defense we face and then unleash optimus

          • ToatsMcGoats says:

Clean get offs are so dirty sometimes.

          • Sooner Ray says:

I prefer the clean get away.

          • Daddy R says:

I think against Akron, just to mess with everybody, Hot Rod Lincoln should script 20 running plays to begin the game. Imagine the confusion.

        • Hotrod33 says:

That is the case sometimes, but that is the learning process for some of the talented freshmen. Sometimes you have to take the good with the bad and hopefully push through the first few games and breakout. We won’t find out a whole lot during the spring either. We will have to wait til the season starts to know how some of these players will do.

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

I’ve been curious why a lot of other schools recruiting takes off faster than OU’s. There are some schools that get a lot of early commits. Why don’t we ever get that?

    • Fear The Magic says:

The OU coaches dont start recruting till November. Thats when golf season ends.

    • EasTex says:

      Who can say?
Many of the recruits we are after are highly desirable and are being recruited by many schools.
I have to remind myself that verbals are only that, it is those who will sign that matter.

      • ccmosaic says:

2016 class may be real slow. We do not have that many spots open and I am sure the coaches are going OT be very selective in who they bring in. I believe we will take 2 JUCO LBs and 2 HS LBs. Other than that we shall see.

      • Lane Gilstrap says:

You are right. I realize we always end up with a good class. Maybe our coaches want to make sure of who they want. It is definately exciting around NSD, but I was just curious why some schools always get recruits early.

    • Bob Edwards says:

One thing is that I have heard that Stoops usually won’t consider a recruit committed if he is still taking visits. This tends to cause recruits to not commit early unless they are certain they are going OU. It slows down recruitment early, but it tends to reduce flips later.

      • blaster1371 says:

I think he has backed off that policy somewhat.

      • MoJoOkie says:

OU goes after top flight recruits (in general). Many of the better athletes want to weigh their options; unless they grew up wanting to go to a certain school. That means most of the big time pickups are in the last few weeks of recruting.

    • J.r. Kamm says:

Didn’t do us all that well last year as we had Barnett, Lampkin, and Wariboko on the hook.

  • blaster1371 says:

The Newsok reported stoops said 11 was thier target number for the number of linebackers. Seems a little thin for that position group especially since we are really talking two positions- inside and outside backers. I don’t know how much the offensive coordinators change the system they learned under Leach. I know the TCU offensive coaches hired last season were Leach dicicles as was Riley. I watched the TCU – OU game again today and I never saw TCU with a TE on the line of scrimmage. My thoughts are the TE and the H back become one and the same personel and perhaps three or four are all that the offensive really needs. I figure Ijlana (Juco TE- sp?), Meier, Flowers and Andrews man that position. TCU had two RBs in the back field almost all the time. They would stay in to pick up blitzes or work out to the flat on a wheel route.

That all being said, I think the new guy Woods will be evaluated as a linebacker or redshirted to be Millard 3.0 with Flowers being Millard 2.0. Not sure if Riley requires a pure Te in the future.

    • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

When you said “Ijlana”, were you referring to Isaac…

    • EasTex says:

If you look at some of the formations ECU ran, there were times when he used two TEs, one TE and/or multiple backs.

    • Sooner 76 says:

This is my list, not Stoops’, but we have Taylor as a walkon and he is really a scholarship-type player as he offered several years ago but chose baseball. Plus they have players who can switch between positions, so 11 seems reasonable to me.

Texas signee Du’Vonta Lampkin upset after position coach leaves

    February, 6, 2015
    By Jake Trotter | ESPN.com

It’s not uncommon for position coaches to switch jobs after national signing day. Two days after signing day, Texas defensive line coach Chris Rumph officially bolted to take the same position at Florida.

One of the players he recruited and signed, defensive tackle Du’Vonta Lampkin, was not pleased that Rumph waited until after signing day to make the move. And Lampkin took to Twitter to make his feelings known.

    Call Me Deebs‼️ @DeeChilllin
Really? 2 days after signing day?
12:18 PM – 6 Feb 2015 Houston, TX, United States

    Call Me Deebs‼️ @DeeChilllin
Guess i was lied to in my face

    Call Me Deebs‼️ @DeeChilllin

He’s not going to, but if he did he would have to sit out a season and Texsa could determine what schools he couldn’t go to.

          • ToatsMcGoats says:

Yeah, I didn’t think he would. Just wondering about the situation.

          • SoonerfanTU says:

Is this accurate? I thought schools had two options. They could turn the kid loose which would let him play immediately, and that was often when schools would block transfers to other schools, or they could “not release him”, and he’d have to sit out a year, but UT couldn’t control where he went.

          • EasTex says:

I suppose they could turn him loose, but I doubt Texsa would ever consider that.

        • RocketCitySooner says:

If I were that sold on a particular coach, I would ask for, in writing, that if that coach left within 30 days of signing that I would be released from my NLI with no restrictions or limitations. If the school would not provide, then I would take that as an indication that I could not trust that school and would look elsewhere.

        • soonermusic says:

in order for the transfer rules to apply he has to have practiced with the team, or enrolled and been at school on the first day of classes, or practiced or competed even if not enrolled full time. Once he’s met the requirements to be a student at school a, then I’m pretty sure the transfer requirements to move to school b would apply. But if all he did was sign, I don’t think so.

          • blaster1371 says:

I thought that rule got thrown out when that DL named Vanderhooven or something signed with Notre Dame and then went to UCLA. He didn’t sit out a year. He even attended summer workouts at ND but had not attended any classes. Another player did the same thing the next season. I remember the whole incident raised a ton of hooplah as it set a very powerful precedent that many thought would it would render the NLI moot. Then again, maybe that rule you quoted was made afterward to firm up the binding of the NLI.

Not familiar with the stories you reference, so I don’t know what the details were. Here are the two links that I looked at, the first has no date, the second is 2015. They both seem current. Take a look, see what you think…

I think you are right. The player I was referring to was Eddie Vanderdoes in 2013. He had to go through an appeals process to get out of his NLI and not sit out a year. He cited family issues as his reason.

posted correction to my previous reply.

One benefit from going to the Modified Air Raid offense will be that our D has to go against it every day and should improve their ability to cover it. Plus, the defensive coaches will evolve in their mixing their coverages and finding points of attack. I think the D will benefit just by seeing it day in and day out. But, maybe I’m an optimist since I haven’t screamed “fire Kish!”?

    • Boomer4life says:

I’m more curious how we cover up our offensive looks when playing other airraid defensive.

**ATTN** – Just wanted to follow up and ask if anyone was still continuing to have issues w/ the site either not loading and/or loading very slowly?

    TIA

RIP coach Smith, you will be missed

  • OUfan2015 says:

Sorry if already asked, but has anyone else heard rumors of a possible LB transferring in to OU? I know EJ Levenberry left Florida State and he was very high on OU during his recruitment. Not saying I know any specific names…just throwing that one out there.

    Love this site!

    • Jordan Esco says:

We followed up on this a while back when the news he was transferring first broke, and for whatever reasons OU does not appear to be interested. Or at least weren’t at the time and we haven’t heard anything about that changing.

  • Soonerboyz says:

Some people on this board has issues besides on the site.
I have no issues on the site.

    No updates??

  • John Garner says:

Probably the wrong board to post this but OU’s softballers — specifically freshman Paige Parker — recorded a perfect game in the title game of a tournament at the U. of Hawaii. Sounds like Patty Gasso has found herself a stud pitcher.

  • ToatsMcGoats says:

With all this talk about Lampkin I’ve started wondering about the development of Courtney Garnett. Anyone heard anything?

    • james babcock says:

I heard he isn’t progressing along as far as they would like that’s why we recruited so many defensive lineman this year.

      • JD says:

wasn’t he a dt…we only took one dt and he’s iffy to qualify …although Gallimore looks the part to move inside if needed but he’s been told he’s a de…when you only use one then you can take your chances when your two deep is still underclassmen

      • ToatsMcGoats says:

Hate to hear that. I was really thinking he would be a great find.

        • james babcock says:

The truth is i am just messing with you guys its just been a slow weekend on this site just having a little fun let’s hope he goes on and has a great career to Oklahoma blame the football brainiacs are not producing a new post all weekend long just having a little fun.

I’ve got a question for clarification. What the heck happened to Jalin Barnett? I heard OU passed on him which is why he went to NU. I guess he had a less than stellar senior year. His Jr. film looked good, like a mauler. Did OU really pass on him? Or, do you think OU would have taken him if they knew for sure Wardaddy was going to UCLA?
