The Path to Norman
Markel Ford was a Texas high school product in the 2026 OU recruiting class. The Sooners offered the safety back in September 2023. Ford originally committed to Texas A&M, then later switched to SMU. OU kept Ford a target and gained the flip in late 2025.
Highlights
This Season
Ford has enjoyed as promising a summer / fall camp as could be asked for, with his name constantly popping up in practice reports. Peyton Bowen and Michael Boganowski return to start at safety, with Omarion Robinson established as the third safety. Ford looks like the fourth guy at safety and should be among the highest snap counts for OU freshman this fall.
