The Path to Norman
Preston Tarpley was a member of OU’s 2025 high school class. Tarpley, a kicker out of Texas, had a prolific high school career. He was a three-time Texas Sports Writers Association All-State selection at kicker and one-time at punter. Gunter High School won three consecutive state championships during his time there; Tarpley played quarterback to go along with his kicking duties. He joined the Sooners as a walk-on in the summer of 2025.

Tarpley redshirted in 2025 and did not play.
This Season
The kicker spot is locked down by Tate Sandell, with Jacob Ulrich and Grayson Miller working at punter. However, all three are upperclassmen. Tarpley is one of several underclassmen kickers who will look to make a bigger impact next fall.
