The Path to Norman

Daniel Akinkunmi, a member of the 2024 OU recruiting class, came to Norman from quite a distance. The lineman, out of England, attended the NFL academy and was viewed as a high ceiling, very athletic big man. Plenty of schools offered Akinkunmi; his top five included Clemson, Miami, Ole Miss, and Baylor. However, the Sooners won his commitment in the fall of 2023.

After arriving in Norman, Akinkunmi was one of the most vocal and visible of the new Sooners, becoming very engaged with the fan base.

Career so Far

Akinkunmi played in just one game in 2024 while taking a redshirt season.

In 2025, Akinkunmi played in six games, largely on special teams, and was named to the SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll.

Highlights

This Season

Akinkunmi has been battling injuries on and off throughout his time in Norman; this spring, he was on a scooter with a lower leg injury. Although he has been cleared for summer workouts, it’s uncertain how that will translate into availability this fall. He’s stayed at OU this spring and appears to be a great teammate fit, but is fighting an uphill battle to begin making his mark on the offense.
