Sourced Recruiting Notes Coming Out Of Future Freaks
– Charlie S – Posted on: March 9, 2026
The Sooners hosted a very, very successful recruiting event this past weekend, which resulted in five verbal commitments during the weekend.
***OU picked up commitments from QB Jamison Roberts, OL Tyson Ross, S Jaylen Scott, TE Seneca Driver, and ATH Greydon Howell. The community was well aware of four of those commitments as likely to come, and the Driver addition was a pleasant surprise.
***Sources continue to indicate that those five commitments will not be the only ones to come out of the weekend. As you know, and as we have been talking about, it is my understanding that IOL Gus Corsair is a heavy OU lean (have a draft written up for his announcement), and CB Gabriel Osborne is another guy who could pop at any time.
***I’m told OU has pushed to the top in the recruitment of S Bode Sparrow and DL Sione Felila. Felila is a guy who absolutely loves OU. The one thing I am continuing to check on is how hard OU will push there right now. As for Sparrow, OU wants him; he really likes OU, and I would not be shocked to see him as part of the class. Right now, expect Sparrow and Felila to OV to OU and the Sooners may be difficult to beat for both of them.
***CB Juju Johnson had been an OU lean for quite some time and was set to commit to OU earlier in the cycle but he decided to push things back. Then Jay Valai moved on and OU lost a little ground there, but it sounds like LaMar Morgan made a really nice impression this weekend and Johnson and OU are back in terrific standing. Source outside of OU tells me Johnson wants to take some other visits, though, so the Sooners are fine with that, and I am beginning to wonder if OU simply starts to investigate some other options as they already have a nice corners class (Michail McCreary and Mikyal Davis) and the addition of Osborne would make any other CB Additions a luxury.
***The Sooners made a strong impression on DE Myles Smith. It does not sound like anything is imminent there, but OU has positioned itself to be a factor in this recruitment, and I expect them to receive an official visit this spring.
Checking Out the New Guys
– Charlie S – Posted on: March 10, 2026
With all the hoopla and constant action from all the commitments over the weekend, I wanted to circle back and give a real quick take on the five guys who committed at the Future Freaks event.
***QB Jamison Roberts: Bottom line: Roberts is a high-upside dual-threat QB with big production and athletic playmaking ability. He’s more of a long-term developmental piece for OU rather than someone expected to play immediately, but the ceiling is significant if his passing mechanics and consistency continue to improve.
***IOL Tyson Ross: Bottom Line: Ross isn’t a flashy national blue-chip, but he’s the type of big-bodied developmental offensive lineman that Bill Bedenbaugh has historically turned into solid starters. He likely needs time, but the size, versatility, and frame give him real upside in OU’s system. A lot depends on how he physically matures over the next year.
***S Jaylen Scott: Bottom Line: Scott is a playmaking safety with strong instincts and ball skills. If his body fills out and his coverage technique continues to improve, he has the tools to become a difference-maker in OU’s secondary and a potential early contributor. We have seen this before and his skill set is one that could get him on the field early.
***TE Seneca Driver: Bottom Line: Driver is one of the highest-ceiling offensive players in OU’s 2027 class. With his size, athleticism, and pass-catching ability, he projects as a future difference-maker at tight end and a player who could see the field earlier than most at the position. I would expect him to be in the rotation as long as he remains healthy.
***ATH(WR) Greydon Howell: Bottom Line: Howell is one of the most dynamic athletes in the 2027 class for OU. If the position transition goes smoothly, he has the upside to become a dangerous slot weapon in the Sooners’ offense, though he may need a little development before becoming a full-time contributor. He will have a clear path to the field, will be all about how he takes to the Slot position.
Tight End Room Work in Progress | Sourced
– Super K – Posted on: March 10, 2026
As you know, this past weekend the Sooners landed a commitment from one of the most coveted tight end recruits in the country. This is an excellent start for Jason Witten in his attempt to overhaul the tight end room.
The Sooners are going to struggle to be elite on offense until that room is in much better shape.
A few weeks ago I talked about what I’ve been hearing on the tight end room. I painted a rosy picture. And I remain optimistic that the room will be much improved. But I just want to caution that it is a low bar. I don’t need to tell you all that the past few years have been abysmal at that position.
I did speak to a couple sources about the tight ends the Sooners brought in and while they had good things to say, I was basically told to pump the brakes a bit on my expectations. That there will indeed be improvement but those guys need development and it’s going to be about what Witten can get out of them.
The message I got was that the new guys have a ton of upside but, again, it’s going to need to be nurtured. Got that sense about all three guys, which is certainly positive because you only need to get one of them to hit. If you get two to break out, then you’re cooking.
Coaching Salaries | Morgan and McCullough
– Charlie S – Posted on: March 10, 2026
The Sooners Board of Regents Officially approved of the coaching contracts for CB Coach LaMar Morgan and RB coach Deland McCullough.
*** Morgan will make 400k this year and is signed through 2028
2026 season: $400,000
2027 season: $1.05 million
***McCullough is signed through 2029 and starts at 625 per.
2026 season: $625,000
2027 season: $825,000
2028 season: $950,000
DeMarco Murray was scheduled to make 850k this season and Jay Valai was set to bring in 785k this season.
Sourced Recruiting Notes | Cornerback
– Charlie S – Posted on: March 11, 2026
The Sooners already have two corners committed in the 2027 class in Mikhail McCreary and Mikyal Davis.
Juju Johnson, who at one point was considered an OU lock by some, was back on campus this weekend. Sources tell us Juju plans on taking his visits and making his pledge to the school of his choosing in or around June. Nebraska is a school that is pushing here.
Sources continue to make it clear that OU’s remaining priority at corner is Gabe Osborne, who was also on campus this past weekend. I have made it no secret that I believe Osborne will be part of the class, and he is too freakishly athletic for the Sooners to let him get out of state; they will pull out all the stops to ensure that one.
That’s where it gets a bit sticky…can OU (or any school, really) lock up four corners in the same class?
Juju missed his entire season last year with an injury. When he postponed his commitment in December, I noted that OU may have slowed the roll there. Now, sources tell us the Sooners are pitching the idea of using him on either/both sides of the ball.
Sounds to me that OU is making a clear path for Osborne to remain as the priority at corner, and he is the guy they are pushing for right now.
Is the Talent Better?
– Super K – Posted on: March 12, 2026
So last week I started asking the following three questions…
Is the coaching staff better than last year? My general answer was, likely yes.
Is the schedule harder than last season’s? As I said, I spoke to a number of sources around the country in various programs and the general sense I got is, yes the schedule is going to be tougher. How much tougher? Still trying to figure that out.
The final question, I wanted to ask is whether this year’s team will be more talented than last year’s team?
Recall that I wrote a post last April titled, “This is BV’s Best Team on Paper and Isn’t Close” (LINK).
I think most, if not all, of you agreed at the time.
So, keep in mind the bar is very high.
The Sooners will lose a lot on defense and I think there are some guys not being talked about that will be the bigger losses like Kendal Daniels.
***The Sooners lose some great players on the defensive line but I’m just not worried about that position. There is plenty of talent coming back that will improve. Bates is just too good and BV places so much emphasis on building the defense front to back that I expect the DL to continue to be a strength.
***The LB group could be better but again, I like what Daniels brought to the party. Still, not a group I’m worried about.
***Overall, I’m going to say the defense is as good. BV had pretty much the same defense at Clemson every year. It was always good and I think as long as BV is running things, we can expect a high degree of both quality and consistency.
***Where I think the Sooners could see a big improvement is the offense. Mateer, more mature.
***Arbuckle, more mature.
***Tight end room…existent.
***WR should be the same or better.
***Run game, I think will be better.
***Offensive line should be better.
Short of something really unexpected on defense, I think the offense should ensure that OU is a better or more talented team this upcoming season. Or perhaps a better way to frame it is, they’ll field a better product overall.
So to summarize, my position is…
Better staff
Better team
Tougher schedule
So, how they do, will depend on just how much more difficult we think that schedule will be. And, that is what I’m going to continue to try to ascertain.
Last season we reported that sources inside the building told us that they could win or lose every single game and that would win or lose a lot of close games. That is exactly what transpired. Can they be more dominant this year? Or does the schedule mean, it’s heartburn highway, once again?
Sourced Notes | Febechi Making Money & Other Notes
– Charlie S – Posted on: March 12, 2026
Spoke to someone not associated with OU after watching pro-day today and he was raving about Sooners OL Febechi Nwaiwu.
***Source said, “He has earned a (expletive)-ton of money since that LSU game. Every time he has been on the field or in a workout, he just earns more money”.
***Was told his mentality, durability, and versatility are all positives and his draft grade continues to rise. I asked this person’s opinion on where he will get drafted, and it was his opinion that Febechi is likely a lock for the 4th round and he has a good chance of going higher than that.
***Another guy who actually has been improving his stock is Marvin Jones Jr. NFL GMs love his length and size and his one season in Norman is viewed as a positive, particularly when it came to rounding out his game overall. Source said he may have moved himself into better draft consideration.
***Lastly, I asked about Kendall Daniels and his limited participation and less than stellar 40 and source said “Gonna be all about the right team in the right spot”. So, it looks like his stock is pretty neutral and he really diidn’t do much to help his case here in the draft.
