The Path to Norman
Robert Spears-Jennings came to OU as a highly-ranked defensive back out of Broken Arrow, OK. The Sooners had Spears-Jennings to camp in the early summer of 2021, where he received his offer on an unofficial visit. Not long after that, the in-state product committed to Oklahoma. In his senior season following the commitment, Spears-Jennings had a breakout season, showing off his measurables and speed.

Career so Far
RSJ was a player in year one for the Sooners. He appeared in nine games, logging 15 tackles. It was a fairly quiet season, but a good one for experience.
In 2023, RSJ was on the field almost every game. Although he didn’t see as many snaps as some of the other defensive backs (ninth-most snaps of OU DBs during the regular season), he still made his presence felt in his time.
2024 was a big season for RSJ. He started in 11 games and played in all 13. A starter at safety, RSJ finished the season second on the team in tackles and eighth in the nation in forced fumbles. He was a consistent presence in a talented safety room. After the season, he decided to return for one more year at OU.

This Season
RSJ enters his senior season with high expectations. He has been sidelined for part of fall camp; this week’s depth chart, which has him listed as an “or” to start, implies he may not see a lot of reps in game one. However, he’ll be a leader of this defense and one of the veteran presences on this team.
