The Path to Norman

Taylor Tatum was a big addition to the 2024 OU recruiting class. The number one running back in the class hailed from the state of Texas and was a two-sport star, also playing baseball. Basically every top program in the country had offer Tatum, with USC being a major factor in his recruitment. OU offered Tatum early in the recruiting cycle, then got him to campus for ChampU BBQ in the summer of 2023. After that, the Sooners jumped in the lead and landed a commitment within a month.

Career so Far

Tatum was called upon in year one on campus. He played in 11 games, seeing three starts over the season, and played the third-most snaps of the backs on the roster. Tatum showed plenty of promise, but fumble issues hampered his season.

This Season

Tatum was limited through part of fall camp while nursing a hamstring injury. Although he’s expected to be fully healthy by at least the Michigan game, newcomer Jaydn Ott is expected to lead the running back room, with Jovantae Barnes and Xavier Robinson right behind him. Tatum will have to battle for his snaps in 2025.
