The Path to Norman

Febechi Nwaiwu was a transfer portal addition to the OU roster. He played high school football in Texas, then went to UNT for college. After three seasons at North Texas, Nwaiwu entered the transfer portal. Coach Bedenbaugh got his man just before Christmas 2023.

Career so Far

Nwaiwu took a redshirt season in 2021 while playing in two games. In 2022, Nwaiwu was an impact player as a redshirt freshman. He played in 14 games, 12 of which he started, and was named to several second-team and third-team Freshman All-American teams. The 2022 UNT line helped pave the way for a single-game rushing record against Louisiana Tech.

2023 was another year of lots of starting for Nwaiwu. He played in 10 games, starting in seven, then missed a few games due to injury.

In 2024, Nwaiwu’s first season with the Sooners, he started all 13 games at right guard. The offensive line struggled at the start of the season, but eventually settled in, with Nwaiwu earning SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week after the Alabama win.

This Season

Nwaiwu looks set to start once again at right guard. Freshman Ryan Fodje will be in the rotation, with others potentially working at right guard depending on the rest of the lineup, but Nwaiwu will be the main factor once again in 2025.
