UPDATE BREAKING (6:09 pm on Sunday) – TE Isaac Ijalana has committed!
UPDATE BREAKING (4:26 pm on Sunday) – Dwayne Orso has committed!
Homewood Alabama defensive end, Dwayne Orso, is visiting Norman this weekend. We will bring you updates that we receive regarding his visit:
– As we tweeted earlier this morning Orso wasn’t able to make it to the game due to weather issues. The whether was bad in Atlanta so he was rerouted to Knoxville and by the time he made it to ATL he had missed his flight to OKC. Despite all that he was still excited about his trip to Norman! 🙂
– He finally got to OKC around 3:30 pm and he was taken over to the campus.
– Here’s all 6’5 of Dwayne next to the crystal ball. When OU gets him in the S&C program this fella is going to be huge. You ever wonder why SEC linemen are so big? They’ve got huge frames. Dwayne is currently touring the facility.
Again, we will continue updating this as we receive them.

Hey BMRSNR – if you reading this; sorry your comment got deleted. It was totally inadvertent. Please feel free to repost your comment.
lol, no problem, how solid would his commitment be if some bigger SEC schools come calling, especially Bama?
Nothing is for sure but I do know that he’s receiving advice from people around him to be loyal to the commitment no matter what. And he is a GOOD kid. Very good kid. Not to say that someone who flips isn’t. But I just mean he seems like the kind of young man that would stick if for no other reason than his relationship with Coach Montgomery. Coach Montgomery went out to Alabama to visit him and his coaches before the offer was made. And he made a good impression on all of them.
Great weekend for OU. What can you guys tell us about the TE commit? I have not heard of him. Really excited about Orso based on what you guys hve said. Thanks for the update.
I haven’t talked to anyone other than Broyles about Ijalana. I think our general impression is that he’s a quality player. He might not have the upside of someone like Carson Meier but he’s a quality player at a position of need. And he has enough in both the area of physicality and athleticism to allow him to contribute and maybe even turn into a formidable weapon if he comes in and goes to work. Perhaps we’ll do a more thorough evaluation if time permits but those were the general impressions I had. And while I won’t speak for Broyles I will say that what I’ve said seemed to be his general thoughts as well.
Did Isaac redshirt at Pierce? Seems like they had a te a few years ago that needed a serious look when he grad’d when we were recruiting Everett and Boland
Couldn’t tell you JD. They had Sandland last year.
Man if Orso turns out anywhere close to Tapper I’ll be glad he’s a sooner
His coach and I talk a lot. He played DLine in college and has seen some of the best DL in the state of Bama (guys who are studs in the league) and straight up told me that Orso is better at this point. He says the same thing we saw – ridiculous upside. And the best part – he’s not from the state of Texas. And that isn’t meant to be a knock on Texas (I’ve lived a lot of my life in Texas) but these days taking DL from the state of Texas outside of maybe the deepest eastern parts isn’t worth the risk. Charles Walker and Trey Carter are from Louisiana originally.
this is the second or third time this morning I’ve seen reference to why you shouldn’t take DLineman out of Texas. Can you explain the reasoning here? I totally get that SEC boys are large and in charge for the most part, but why NOT Texas vs. NOT Iowa, NOT Kansas, etc… two random states. It’s obvious you have a theory on Texas Dlineman formed and would love to hear it because everything on this site seems to be spot on, so my curiosity is piqued, thanks
I’ve been thinking about writing a post about that very subject. Just trying to figure out how to be tactful about it. But for now I will say this isn’t an assertion I would have made a few years ago. Its a recent happening and it’s something coaches will tell you. Texas is a huge state with a lot of talent but ask yourself how many Texas HS DL have been drafted in the first 3 rounds in the past few years.
My guess is, for the most part, West Texas H.S. teams (same goes for Oklahoma and Kansas) run spread offenses. The offensive linemen are smaller, and quicker and are being coached to play a different kind of football. Therefore, the defensive linemen are also smaller, as they are required to be more athletic and faster. Look at Venables’ defenses where our defensive line and backers could be considered tweeners, as none of them really stood out as 6’5, 340 lb. monsters on the line, and the linebackers had to be fast enough to cover slot receivers.
High schools like to mimic their favorite college teams, and for the most part, those schools run pro-style, power running attacks. As the spread “spreads” across SEC country, perhaps some of that will change, but for now, schools in the Southeast are taking advantage of the abundance of man-child linemen that can maul you at the line of scrimmage and push people around. No need to fix what ain’t broken.
Good post Billy. I will say that in SEC territory, as a friend told me you’ll see it all from empty to wing t. You’ll get 2 power back to read option. But in general if you talk to SEC territory coaches and kids they are just different than they are in Texas. I’ll go into that more if I decide to write the post.
Thanks. My first post on here. I caught wind of your site last week and really enjoy it. Appreciate being able to participate, and you’ll often notice I’m wrong on just about everything I type. 🙂
Oh, and living in Nashville, I’d say you are right. No two high schools around here run similar offenses as far as I’ve seen.
So glad to have you bud. And that was a DANG good first post. Please continue to offer your insight.
Looks like we got Linebacker Devante Bond. Just pulled the trigger and picked OU!
Yes indeed! HUGE NEWS!
