The Path to Norman
Robert Spears-Jennings came to OU as a highly-ranked defensive back out of Broken Arrow, OK. The Sooners had Spears-Jennings to camp in the early summer of 2021, where he received his offer on an unofficial visit. Not long after that, the in-state product committed to Oklahoma. In his senior season following the commitment, Spears-Jennings had a breakout season, showing off his measurables and speed.

Career so Far
RSJ was a player in year one for the Sooners. He appeared in nine games, logging 15 tackles. It was a fairly quiet season, but a good one for experience.
In 2023, RSJ was on the field almost every game. Although he didn’t see as many snaps as some of the other defensive backs (ninth-most snaps of OU DBs during the regular season), he still made his presence felt in his time.

This Season
After two seasons of gaining experience, 2024 will be a big next step for the junior. The OU safety room – led by Billy Bowman, Peyton Bowen, and RSJ – looks as solid as it has in years. RSJ was listed as an “or” alongside Bowen at FS on this week’s depth chart. However the actual starting label works out, all three of those safeties will be key factors in this year’s defense.
