Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend!

Nate Dalton: Nate Dalton is an under-the-radar 2015 CB from Houston standing 6’3″ and the Sooners have recently got involved with. There were some reports that Dalton had received an offer, however, as we mentioned, Nate told us on multiple occasions no offer has been made. We caught up with him yesterday and he said he still wasn’t sure where he stood with respect to an offer. So we decided to check with a source with ties to the program, and we were able to confirm that Dalton does indeed have an offer. We aren’t sure what has caused the mix up, but it hasn’t changed Dalton’s interest in the Sooners.

Dalton confirmed to TFB yesterday that he will be in Norman for an official visit this coming weekend. We asked if a commitment is possible, and he said that he hasn’t made a decision about that just yet. Dalton has been garnering a lot of attention in the Houston area lately. He is originally from Louisiana, but moved to Houston and was playing quarterback for Cy Falls. However, he has since moved to cornerback this season and really impressed a lot of people in his first year at the position.

Gabriel Campbell: Campbell is another name to add to this weekend’s Bedlam visitor list. He first wanted to make the trip to Norman for the Tennessee game, but wasn’t able to. He’s since taken his ACT/SAT and true to his word, he will be visiting Norman this weekend.

In speaking to him recently, he continues to be adamant that he is not tied to any particular school and is still very much looking for the right fit with the right coach. He’s looking for a coach that he respects. Gabriel is one of the most morally upright and noble young people I’ve (K) come across. I really don’t know how else to say it. He just strikes you as a genuinely good young man with really high ethical values and an old soul. He said that he takes note when other coaches speak poorly about other programs. He said it turns him off and it’s clear that he’s looking for someone he can look up to as a teacher and as a man.

In talking to people around Mississippi, we’ve been told that Campbell is the defensive line jewel of the state and a guy that we’ve been told remains number one on Miss. State’s board. Considering how good Miss. State’s defensive linemen usually are…that’s not small thing.

Ykili Ross: Ykili Ross confirmed with us last night that he will also be in Norman this coming weekend. The chances of the Sooners landing him seems really slim, but getting a visit is always a good (and necessary) first step.

Dwaine Thomas: Got word that Tim Kish was down in Louisiana last Friday to visit 2015 LB, Dwaine Thomas. An offer still has not been extended yet, but Kish did let Dwaine know that he will be in touch soon. So hopefully that means an offer is on the way. Personally, TFB feel this offer should have already been made.

Kahlil Haughton: Yesterday, Bob Stoops did his in-home visit with star 2015 safety, Kahlil Haughton. The Midway product let us know he has a few more in-home visits from other coaches and while he still doesn’t have an exact date yet set for his commitment, he feels he’ll be ready to make the decision after all the visits are complete. Here’s a GREAT pic from yesterday’s visit:

photo

Arthur McGinnis: Stud 2015 LB Arthur McGinnis (New Orleans, LA) will also be in Norman this weekend. Spoke to a source yesterday who told us ‘don’t be surprised if McGinnis ends up at OU.’

We’ve got some other names of prospects that will be coming in this weekend, and we’ll put a comprehensive list together on The Original Posters later in the week. Also, per some requests, we will try to do a recruiting summary in order to get some of the relevant names in one place.

on this date my birthday a little known guy was hired as the coach for Oklahoma football…
a lifetime later I pray this little known guy …who is now the face of Oklahoma football…
can somehow resurrect his legacy…for he is a true Sooner fan..a true sooner legend …but more so a great human being God bless Bob Stoops….boomer sooner

      Happy birthday!!

        S K –
        off topic question here, preface:
Conference re-alignment talk will probably crank up again with the season ending.
Very early this season, one of TFB posited a hypothesis that Tulane could be a good addition to the Big XII, and the writer was going to expound on the hypothesis.
Questions – was that you? Another writer? Was said expounding ever posted?
I kept an eye out for it but missed it if it was posted.
I can see how Tulane could be a good addition – good sized market, a well respected college, NOLA is a great away game setting for the rest of the conference, we could step up recruiting in the rich LA talent pool, raid some of the talent away from the sec. It could work.

        • Iheartoufootball says:

I always wondered why Tulane was never discussed much. They may be ‘small’ but I think they would be a great addition.

    • hOUligan says:

Cool way to mark the occasion. Happy Bday. Be safe over there.

  • JSam says:

Love the info on Campbell. Sounds like a great kid to have in and around the program. Stoops is nothing if not genuine.

With the “old soul” maturity, if they don’t have Perine host him they’re crazy.

    • JJSoona says:

      Completely agree.

    • Brent says:

should we reserve a table by the duck pond for them to play chess and feed the birds?

      • paganpink says:

Hey, that’s my comment of the week!

      • roygbell says:

That would be welcome news as far as I am concerned. I am sick and tired of the primadonna college athletes. I want kids who are genuine, smart, had good parents who disciplined their kids and instilled some good ole down home ethics in their kids. Perine, so far is the model student athlete I want at OU. The more of them we have the better I will like it.

Let FSU and all the others have the Jamis Winstons of the college football world. I don’t want those types at OU.

  • JJSoona says:

I’ll take TFB’s opinion over most anyone. That said, why hasn’t an offer been made to Thomas?? Is this recruiter of sound mind?? Smh……change has to be in the wind.

  • Brian says:

Love the info! Is it just me or does it seem pretty foreboding that Haughton seems ready to make a decision after Stoops in-home?

  • Ed Cotter says:

Ykili’s team plays for a CIF Section Championship on Friday, so it will be interesting to see if he can pull off a visit to Norman for the Bedlam game.

  • Zack says:

If mcguinnis commits this weekend that would be great. I think ou leads for McKee still. That leaves deberry, jefferson and wheeler…and I think we have a real shot at 2 of the 3. If we end up with just one then I would expect a couple offers to go out at the beginning of January.

  • L'Carpetron Dookmarriot says:

Nary a problem taking Thomas and McGinnis. And Jefferson. And McKee.

  • hOUligan says:

My thoughts, after Jefferson, the LB I have wanted most is McGinnis. The guy has some great film but reading some of his twitter pages, seems to be another outstanding, driven young man….like Campbell. Could see Campbell and McGinnis hitting it off. And think Coach Montgomery is the perfect coach and mentor for these two. Expect Dwaine Thomas’ offer is contingent upon what happens the weekend of the 19-21 when Jefferson, McKee and DeBerry are set to announce. I think OU has a great shot at getting 2 of the 3 and MAYBE Jefferson, too.

  • Rashad See says:

    Any word on Iman Marshall?

    • Jordan Esco says:

It ain’t happening. My intention isn’t to be dismissive of your question, it’s just not realistic and really never was, IMO.

      • Gary Robbins says:

Just listened to interview with him after last high school football game. Said was going to sit down with his dad and discuss his official visits ( interview was on 11-29). If OU gets an official visit that would be great but he is a 100 % lock to USC (that’s what everybody has predicted.)

      • Rashad See says:

I take no offense at all…just had seen his name thrown around and thought it wouldn’t hurt to ask…..any word on Newsome?

    • Brent says:

he didn’t look that impressive this past weekend going against Josh Rosen

  • Jeremy Phillips says:

Good news on McGinnis & Thomas…

  • Paul Warfield says:

An offer to Thomas make some sense, the young man has the size and frame to play inside linebacker. But the offer to McKee never even made sense as a linebacker. Chris Hart from St. Thomas Aquinas in Florida is a linebacker Oklahoma needs to have gotten involved with. Can play inside and outside, but of course that would make too much sense.

    • Zack says:

Is hart the one who just decommitted from somewhere? There’s a kid from aquinnis that just opened his recruiting.

      • Paul Warfield says:

No, I believe that would be another player. Here are Hart’s highlights….and honestly I believe he is a better prospect than Anthony Wheeler. http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2595830/highlights/111421388

        • Zack says:

I’ll have to watch when I’m not at work but I do believe you. The only reason I want us to get wheeler is because his rating is good by most scouts but his junior tape was not impressive IMO. I’ve seen some far more impressive guys especially Amante Caban who is committed to Louisville and if anyone thought Louisville would fall off after strong left…they must have forgot how good petrino was at Louisville.

          • Gary Robbins says:

And to think the Big 12 had a shot to allow Louisville in the conference. They are pretty good in other sports too. Oh well hindsight is 20-20.

          • SoonerfanTU says:

Yep, they would have been huge. Louisville and either Cincy or a Florida school (SF or UCF) and we’d have been set. UL and Cincy would also have provided more convenient games for WVU, as far as travel is concerned.

          • Zack says:

            Gary you started it.
The big 12 made a huge mistake. They could have been the first conference to go to 16.
Louisville, uconn, Pitt, cincy, Syracuse, Rutgers, and Maryland were all up for grabs. If the big 12 would have made a move to get 4 of those teams then that would have almost guaranteed that the acc would fall which would have left fsu, Miami, Clemson, and others up for grabs.
Also would have given natural rivals to wvu.

          • Gary Robbins says:

            Oops. How about linebackers.
            A. Darrin Kirkland-1st in-home visit from Tom Allen of ole Miss. Two officials left Texas on 12-5, USC on 12-12. No clear cut favorite but Texas in lead. Was set to announce at Army Bowl on Jan. 3rd.
            B. Malik Jefferson-Texas a slight lead over A&M, has OU in top 7. Read somewhere that his mom really enjoyed the OU visit. Decide on 12-19. Will A&M firing of DC have any effect?
            C. Anthony Wheeler- OU in lead over Texas. Wanted to take all officials and announce on national signing date.
            D. Ricky DeBerry- Shows OU and Ohio State in lead. OU was one of his 5 official visits. Last official was Alabama on 11-29. Is suppose to decide on 12-19.
            E. Arthur McGinnis-A&M leader. Firing of DC have any effect? OU official this weekend has a good feeling to it.
            F. Anthony McKee- between OU and Mich. State. Set to announce on 12-21.
            g. Wildcard maybe! Dwaine Thomas, Boutte, La. 6-2/200. Need to make an offer and get him on official visit.
Always look forward to Super K’s take on these athletes because I get most of my info from him plus the other TFB crew. The posters oh here who are Twitter savvy are one of the best sources also.
On another note look forward to the posting of official visitors from the Brainiac crew on the Bedlam game. My very unofficial happy hour list is up to 10 so far. Six from the California invasion, 1 from Mississippi, 1 from Maryland, 1 from Louisiana, and 1 from Texas. I should add an unofficial from Sunderland ( I still think he has his mail forwarded to Headington Hall.
That’s 4 OU offers to decide by 12-22.

          • Zack says:

I will say there is one back up plan maybe with whitfield. Tulsa fired Blankenship so I’m sure if a big school came and offered late that he would consider it definitely something to keep an eye on.

          • Zack says:

And right on cue…whitfield has announced he reopened his recruiting.

          • Stephen Dale says:

Greg: maybe other conference coaches were afraid of the competition and didn’t want to legitimize Lousiville any further by allowing them in the Little 12-2..

  • F1at1ined says:

Does Dalton himself now know he has a valid OU offer? haha. I figure he needs to be very aware that he has one. Check his envelope piles again heh.

  • Boom says:

hmm, going to be interesting to see what some of these current commits and prospects do from these schools.
ATM – Fired DC & record
Auburn – Fired DC & record
    Nebraska – Fired HC
    Florida – Fired HC
    Clemson – OC to SMU
Miss St – Coach possibly leaving
Ole Miss – Coach possibly leaving

    • Gary Robbins says:

With about 60 days left till signing date things will get hectic.

    • EasTex says:

Considering the Virgil issue with regards to Miss St I have wondered if that could cause some commits to change their minds. That one issue could haunt Mullen whether he stays or not.

  • EasTex says:

Thanks for the updates. Not only the next few weeks, but the next two months are going to be very interesting.
SK, you mentioned a few weeks ago that Neville Gallimore was going to be in Dallas and his team would be playing Prime Prep. Any further word on that and is he a possible Bedlam visitor?
I visited PP’s web page and no mention of a game.

  • Rashad See says:

Any word from within the program if the lack of OU recruiting LBs has to do with Kish and the possibility of bring aboard a more established Co-coordinator to help Mike and coach LBs?

  • rphokc says:

.tfb……….I hate the pukes so I don’t watch them play………what I’ve heard is that their d is decent to pretty good, with the dline being the strength……….they just took the rs off their ace qb recruit and he did a great job at bu…………so, what is the tfb impression of the game …….don’t know which ou is showing up from week-to-week and the passing game is non-existent, so far, with ct and I don’t say that to dog him, just next to no experience…….tfb thoughts?…….fwiw, I’m thinking a really close game………..

  • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Living in Los Angeles, I don’t know the problem everyone has with Kish. Please enlighten those of us who are not privy.

    • He can’t recruit or coach for crap. That’s a good place to start the conversation.

      • D Hunter Sanchez says:

That’s the thinking of TFB, right? But what is wrong with the LB’s? I really don’t know the reasoning. Just curious.

        • Exiled In Ohio says:

No, that is not the thinking of TFB! Just a very small, vocal minority. The vast majority of the readers (and contributors) on this site simply say, “Compare OU to ANY program during the past 16 years … ’nuff said!”

      • SoonerfanTU says:

Can’t coach? I’d say our LB’s have played pretty well this year.

        • John McCroskey says:

Sure, a Kish LB might have 20 tackles in a game. But none of them will be a TFL.

          • Zack says:

Not sure what you mean by a “kish” linebacker unless you’re implying that striker, Grissom, bond and Obo don’t count as “kish’s” because they’re primarily pass rushers. If that’s the case and his guys (Alexander, Evans and a walkon) would be in coverage anyways.

If you really don’t like the guy that’s fine but i don’t agree with your knock on a guy making 20 tackles. 2 tfl is an impressive game stat but I would take 20 tackles as opposed to 5 w/ 2 for a loss.

            Striker 13.5, Phillips 7, Grissom 6.5, tapp 6, Alexander 5.5 Evans 5

          • boomersooner says:

Just more people that wanna bitch just to bitch

          • Paul Warfield says:

The linebackers work with Montgomery as far as pass rushing goes.

          • Zack says:

That makes absolutely no sense. So any time a linebacker blitz’ he is no longer being coached by kish? If we were in a 4-3 and sent a LB blitz, you wouldn’t say “montgomery is responsible for that sack”
Besides hasn’t the complaint been that striker is playing too much coverage??

          • Paul Warfield says:

I’m just telling you the truth. The guys work pass rushing with Montgomery. As for anyone saying the linebacker play has been good, point us in the direction of that film please. Because it has been bad in pretty much every area, from their pass coverage to taking on blocks and filling their gaps. If that is good play than the what Oklahoma calls good has drastically fallen to what I would expect to see at a second tier school, not the top program in modern college football.

          • Zack says:

My point is to say they are not Kish’s guys because they pass rush sometimes is like saying Cody Thomas and knight are not heupels guys when they keep the read, they would now be Cale’s guys.
I’m sure kish knows more about pass rushing than anyone is willing to give him credit for.

          • Paul Warfield says:

Not a good analogy, because Gundy doesn’t spend half the practice working with the quarterbacks on carrying the ball. What I am saying is it’s hard to ignore the simple facts that the areas Kish coaches took a massive drop off from the day Venables left. Even Grissom was a massive disappointment since moving to Kish from Montgomery. Striker has been a good speed rusher, but that has been it.

          • Zack says:

Grissom had been a massive disappointment? Lol the kish haters never cease to amaze. His numbers are almost identical except he’s actually played 3 less games this season. His TFL is down but his solo tackles were going to probably double and again in 3 less games.

            http://www.soonersports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=31000&ATCLID=208409636

Also the linebackers were garbage the last several years under venables.

          • Paul Warfield says:

Do you even realize that you are comparing the stats of an outside linebacker to that of a 3-4 defensive end? Because that is where Geneo played last year. So for his numbers to be spot on, and better in tackles for loss, is actually making my point. But thank you, I appreciate you doing that for me. That would be like Justin Smith’s numbers being the same as Aldon Smith or Ahmad Brooks’.

As for the linebacker play under Venables. Again I think you are off some. Wort and Nelson were sophomores in his final season, while Travis Lewis was a senior and second team All Big 12. You can try to hate on Venables in hindsight all you want but his work speaks for itself. The number one defense in the country and has had more decorated players at his position than almost any other linebacker coach. I dare you to compare his resume to Tim Kish.

And maybe the linebacker play was not as good as it had been, but that was the difference between All American and national award winners to All Conference and mid round draft picks. Kish hasn’t in his entire career been able to produce what Venables did in his worst seasons.

          • Zack says:

This is gonna be my last response to you because this is going nowhere since you and I see things completely different.
Lewis didn’t win any awards as a junior or senior. But did as a freshman and sophomore which says to me he digressed. Wort was not any good at all and proved it by never making an nfl roster to my knowledge.
            http://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/travis-lewis-2.html

          • Jake says:

The only thing that bothers is me is they never make anyone go backwards. When they tackle, the guy get another two yards. Hardly ever see them pop someone and that by go right down or fall back.

    • soonermusic says:

Complaints from the online crowd about Kish began with attacks on Stoops for hiring him, before he ever set foot on campus. The assumption is that Stoops just doesn’t know enough to tell a good coach/recruiter from a bad one, or doesn’t care, and simply decides upon “friendship,” or “ol’ boy,” or “comfort.” Imho, there’s zero chance that Stoops makes decisions upon which his personal future and the future of the team will rest, based upon those criteria. In my view, his success disallows that analysis. The main criticism of Kish revolved around his age, that he was “too old,” and couldn’t to relate to 18 to 24 yr old kids.

Imho, Kish has fielded arguably the most consistent and many times the strongest unit on the defensive side of the ball the past couple of years, even with his top player injured or unable to play. He has done as good a job as anyone of having the “next guy up,” more than ready to go. I don’t believe he would be able to do that, if he couldn’t relate well to kids that age.

According to the Kish haters, he has not recruited to their satisfaction and should be fired immediately. Without any indication of a fall off in the level of product Kish has consistently put on the field, I think Stoops would be foolish and premature to fire him. The Kish haters say, fire him because of the product they think he will put on the field in the future, based upon their judgement of his recruiting so far.

      • Exiled In Ohio says:

        Excellent analysis!

      • rphokc says:

…….curious, with your first paragraph in mind, why did he hire kittle

        • hOUligan says:

Good point. No secret Bob is loyal to a fault which is a strength but can be his Achilles as well. Kittle is a prime ex. Bob trusts Mike ergo he trusted Mike’s decision to bring Kish and Cortez. Kish appears to be a good coach and the LBs are prepared and playing OK but no Butkus awards are likely to be won. Kish just has not gotten the big names signed and that has been the problem. Also Mike’s scheme, where we have gone from zero LBs to having LBs on the field but they are usually in coverage. They are the leading tacklers on the team but have 1 sack and 10 TFLs between the 2 in 11 games. IMHO Kish is alright but OU could and should be better defensively but it’s not all on Kish.

          • soonermusic says:

Kittle was well respected by his peers as having great potential should he decide to go into coaching. Stoops pointed out at the time that he wasn’t in the position he was in by hiring “knuckleheads,” and agreed with others that Kittle had both the knowledge and the ability necessary.

        • soonermusic says:

I suspect he hired Kittle because he liked what he saw during the several years that the two of them were coaching together as grad/vol assts. on Hayden Fry’s staff at Iowa, and reinforced that view during the time Kittle was involved with the OU program as recruiting coordinator.

Fry’s staff at that time was a “who’s who” of future coaches, who apparently had a high opinion of Kittle’s future as a coach. Here’s what Ferenz said about Kittle, “he did an extraordinary job coaching for us (from 1982 to 1985). He connected well with the players, which isn’t easy when those are some of the guys you played with.” Also, ” I always felt he’d be an excellent coach if that’s what he chose to do.” Stoops clearly agreed with that evaluation.

          • rphokc says:

            …….thxs………why did he fire him

          • soonermusic says:

You’re not really asking me to speculate randomly about the inner workings of the program are you? 🙂 I think you’d need to be at the meetings to know…

Ok, I’ll bite: After the A & M game, Stoops felt he needed to make changes and that was one of the changes. Whether it was a specific move to get rid of Kittle because he had not met expectations, or whether he just wanted new faces in certain spots to go in a different direction, or whether he needed that position open in order to restructure the staff, configure the roles differently, I don’t know, could have been any or all of the above.

          • rphokc says:

just curious after your initial post……..thxs for responding

      • Paul Warfield says:

The eye in the sky doesn’t lie, and neither does the bottom line on recruiting battles won.

Reality is the worst linebacker play that Oklahoma has fielded, possibly in decades, has been under Tim Kish. Just watch the tape, it says enough.

Recruiting speaks for itself. You win with talent, and no coach is good enough to consistently be smarter than every other in the country. Meaning you can’t continue to beat second tier programs for kids but expect to be a top tier defense with that talent.

I hear crap about, well look at Kansas State and what they do. Do you want Oklahoma to be Kansas State? Is that the level of expectation now? To do just OK, but never win anything of significance other than a conference title every 10 years.

        • soonermusic says:

Not gonna go around and around with you on this as you did with Zack, since we obviously disagree, but I think we agree that recruiting is crucial and probably disagree on who should have the final say in evaluating that 🙂

“Worst linebacker play…possibly in decades.” Have to agree to disagree on that. Based on the comments of the coaches they don’t agree with your version of that either, but you are certainly entitled to your opinion.

“Recruiting speaks for itself. you win with talent” I agree. Recruiting is key and you have to get and develop the best talent.

“Look at Kansas State..” I guess you just made that up to have something to attack. I never said anything about “look at Kansas St.,” in the post you replied to, or anywhere else for that matter.

    • Mr. Jones says:

I think the two things you can realistically criticize Kish for is not always having enough horses in the stable and not landing the “big name” guy.

  • Jeremy Phillips says:

247 reporting that QB Chason Virgil is visiting for Bedlam…

    • hOUligan says:

Like OU taking a look and that he is looking at OU but .. watched a little bit of film and 247 gives him good pocket presence and footwork but not good accuracy. Anyone like EasTex seen him play in a game?

      • EasTex says:

Not only have I not seen him I had never heard of him until he got dumped on by Miss St.
His video looks good. For me, he would need to put on about 30 lbs before I would put him into the meat grinder. 6’2″ 170 is just too slight for D-1 football.

Tu needs Garrick McGee as next coach, or the next OC at OU.

nice…and well deserved. The Big 12 is just playing good football right now.

      • hOUligan says:

Like any conference, top half is good with a couple of teams that could compete with anyone. The bottom half…not so much. Love that the acc put the whoopin’ on some sec teams. sec…sec…cough…cough…

  • Does Quentin Cheney have any eligibility left? Maybe he can come back in and play his Middle linebacker spot….Oh yeah, and smoke Patterson will def be here in the spring. I have my sources. 😉

    • Zack says:

Of everyone that may have left early (which Cheney didn’t from what I remember) you ask if Cheney has eligibility.
Reggie smith would be at the top of the list for me.

  • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Is Stoops holding anything back on Knight? If so, what reason (s) are there?

    • paganpink says:

I think he really doesn’t know. It’s an odd thing different then most “stingers” if he really lost feeling in all four limbs. And scary for everyone involved, including the trainers, and him of course.

    • soonermusic says:

He’s not holding back. It sounds like they just don’t know at this point and Stoops doesn’t want to feed the “will Knight ever play again” rumor mill. It would be hard enough to try to heal up, feel better, and make an intelligent decision about your future, without the press breathing down your neck every second wanting to know the latest.

  • BigJoeBrown says:

After reading all the information about the Trevor Knight injury. My opinoin about it., like I have said after just reading and seeing his condition. Reminds me of a condition I have. It’s not an injury but as much as a condition with the spine.

(Yeah it was high school) But when I played my Junior year, I would get these deep stingers during the game. It was often I couldn’t move my arms for a couple of plays and rest them on my hip pads. I played defense so no one would really notice only my dad. Well anyway…after while, my dad was like let’s talk to the team doctor, who ended up recommending I get an MRI. My MRI showed that I had like a narrow spine or spinal cord or something…I can’t remember. Anyway my doctor recommended that I quite playing and said there is a chance if I played paralysis could occur if I took or did the wrong hit. Well this was high school a few years back, so I kept playing. I told my dad, I’d be okay…anyway everything was fine, and I ended up playing my Senior year without any problems. But that being said, unlike high school, I could see that college is pretty close to being professional so that if the team doctor didn’t recommend a guy play because of a physical condition…then the guy doesn’t play.

Anyway I really don’t know a lot about TK’s condition, but it just sounded familiar as something I went through.

  • SoonerinLondon says:

My understanding is that, for this week, TK has NOT been cleared by doctors. For the long run, TK has been given all the data he needs to make a decision and the future will be up to him.

  • connie usa says:

Any chance that Josh “Boren” Heupel gets serious consideration for the Tulsa job?
I’d prefer that OU has an “innovator” as the OC.

    • Sooner Ray says:

I think he would be a good fit there but I’m not sure he would be interested. That’s a hard job for anyone with their academic standards and their athletic budget.

      • connie usa says:

I hear you. But, other guys have succeeded there, and they then parlayed that into a bigger job (John Cooper, Steve Kragthorpe and Todd Graham).
Tulsa (whether it’s football or basketball) seems to be a good “stepping stone” school.

        • Sooner Ray says:

I really think Bill could have done well there if they would let him work through a couple down years.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

I think the game has passed by Bill. Super human being with immense character and decency. But talent evaluation, recruiting, and offensive creativity was just absent. A school like TU needs a dynamic offense to support a so-so defense and he just couldn’t come up with one.

    • Sooner Ray says:

Why don’t they just have some of their players “cheap shot” the committee until they cry uncle?

    • SoonerOracle737 says:

Ultimately, having human beings decide who plays in Nat’l Champ playoff is a huge mistake. This is evidence that money and lawyers will continue to influence the decisions and completely ruin the game (i.e., cash cow). We should have continued use of computer algorithms to take human biases out of the equation and installed an 8 game playoff system.

    • Boomer4life says:

Umfreakinbelivable!!!!!! What a joke this playoffs is becoming.

    • Sooner Ray says:

That’s good news. Hope we can convince him to sign with the good guys. Will be interesting to see how his visits go.

      • Zack says:

If we don’t land a few good linebackers then it’s time to let kish go. If we had a top 5 linebacker coach in the nation they would close this class out nicely. These kids could be contributors early since we have no depth. Or they could RS a couple and eventually start 3 or 4 years for us.

        • Sooner Ray says:

It makes a guy worry. Everyone I talk to claim Kish is a super guy and a good coach once he has the players. Problem is, he has trouble landing them lately. Most think it’s just his age going up against younger, more energetic recruiters.

          • Zack says:

I think he’s a good coach and I know recruits like him but I just don’t know if they love him.

        • rphokc says:

deberry’s bama visit was for the iron bowl……..

          • Zack says:

But we can sell very early playing time. If striker stays then we will have 2 seniors at olb and 2 true juniors inside. If shannon came back that’s a senior. Obo I think is a RS soph right now. Now Evans and Bolton may be pretty good I know they’ve got potential but stoops said they weren’t as far along as Alexander and Evans when they were freshman.

    • Boom says:

      who are we targeting?

  • rphokc says:

sooner ray, thought you would enjoy this……..

Not sure if it’s time to worry about mbanasor. I won’t share the photo from twitter but he shared some of the Arkansas love on twitter. I would really hate for this kid to buy into the “not a good fit” hype. He and Julian Wilson shouldn’t be compared at all. Wilson was a nickel corner/safety for 3 years and made the switch out to corner. I think pj is more fluid and would have the ability to play well in our scheme.

    • rphokc says:

was he at the catfish restaurant at arky……………remember the remark he made during the bu massacre about being a press corner………….notice bs is making several personal pushes while having to prep for a game

    • bmrsnr says:

yeah, can we get a pj update?

      • blaster1371 says:

Got a feeling his commitment to OU is thinning. Mikey Stoops, did nothing the last several games that would make a lock down corner want to play in this defense. Of course Mikey did a similar castration job on the linebacker corps a few years back and OU still has not recovered from that debacle with that position group. Sometimes he really produces a major brain fart.
