An early Happy Thanksgiving! We hope it is a wonderful and happy time for you and your families!
DaMarkus Lodge: On Saturday our DFW guy, Alex King was able to catch up with 2015 Cedar Hill (TX) WR, Damarkus Lodge, who was originally committed to Texas A&M but has since de-committed. Lodge did confirm that OU has been back in contact with him and that it has been head coach, Bob Stoops & wide receivers coach, Jay Norvell that he has been keeping in contact with. Right now Lodge is focusing on his team’s playoff run and is waiting to take visits after the playoffs are over. However, once his team’s playoff run is over he said he is planning to make a return trip up to Norman. As you’d expect with a prospect as talented as he is, Lodge stated he is receiving interest from pretty much everywhere and named a few programs he is looking at other than OU, like Baylor, Ole Miss and USC. At this time, he said he would be waiting until NSD before making a final decision which could be a good thing for OU since it would give them more time to really plant their foot back in this race.
Kyler Murray: Another piece of news we came across over the past Saturday was more chatter on 2015 Allen (TX) QB and Texas A&M commit/legacy, Kyler Murray. Before Saturday there had already been talk that he really liked his visit he took to Norman a few weeks back. From what we heard, it sounds like OU could perhaps be a player here. Looking at A&M’s QB situation with Kyle Allen vs OU’s situation with Knight you could make the argument that OU has more question marks moving forward at the position. Mix that with Murray having quite a few former/current teammates& friends now being up in Norman and there are multiple factors that could be catching his eye for the Crimson & Cream. We have heard that there is a good possibility a return trip to Norman could happen. If so, things could really get interesting.
Jalen Guyton: The same source we spoke with also stated that it’s a possibility 2015 Allen (TX) WR and Notre Dame commit, Jalen Guyton, who is Murray’s #1 target could be looking to visit Oklahoma as well. Now this has not been confirmed through Guyton but it’s more sourced chatter that we picked up on this past Saturday. Guyton is having a huge season this year with 68 rec, 1542 yards and 18 Tds so far on the year. We will keep our ears to the ground on all this in case any of it comes to fruition moving forward.

Would we take any more WR since Westbrook committed? I guess if Lodge wanted to come here you wouldn’t say no.
For the right guy, yes. Position will see attrition but we already have good depth
They shouldn’t focus too much on Murray, although it would be a huge get or focus on a receiver. They need linebackers more than anything.
I agree about linebackers but think we should focus on any and every quality kid regardless of position.
Focusing on Murray doesn’t necessarily have to take away from the LB recruiting. Good staffs can do both.
Of course we need LB’s, but we desperately need a QB who can consistently deliver an accurate pass and correctly read opposing defenses. I personally think our QB issue is the only thing holding us back. Yes, we can have better safety play but that will come with experience. QB play? Not so much…
I would still like to have Newsome.. If we are looking at WR.
I think they have a feeling newsome was going to sec land. He seems really impressed with ole miss and Tennessee. Still would have been nice but we can’t load up too much on guys that play wr if were better off playing the wishbone.
Hopefully just need the right WR’s. I don’t think anyone really wants to run the wishbone. Lol
I’m hopeful that they hire a full time qb coach to let heupel focus more on creating offense. I think the weapons are there, they just aren’t being used right. Neal should not be an outside receiver. Mead should not have been playing. And they should have stuck with smallwood on the outside instead of playing him like a 3rd TE.
Couldn’t have said it better myself..
My 2 biggest position/player, X factors if you will were Jordan Smallwood and Ahmad Thomas..
I think it’d be foolish not to offer Guyton if he showes legit interest.
If that helps convince a guy like Murray yes. If Murray would be interested either way then I think you let guyton take his talents to ND.
I’m with you here. I think the 2 scenarios cause you to go after Guyton;
1) Getting Guyton ensures you get Murray as well or
2)After a year with the freshman WR’s, the coaches don’t like what they see.
Also I just think there may be more talented guys at wr if we are really looking at taking an outside guy. I would rather have dahu than guyton. Yes guytons numbers look great but he does have a top 5 qb prospect throwing to him.
Helping bring Murray over was what I was meaning. I’ve been very impressed with what I’ve seen from him, seems like he has the right type of character. And my resent dislike for A&M just really wants to steal from them lol
No doubt. I think most were surprised guyton committed to notre dame. I thought he was going to choose ou
I live in Allen, Tx and Guyton’s mother taught my son in 2nd grade. I speak with her regularly. They are solid on ND. Now things can change in a heart beat, but as of last Friday they are very much ND.
I have lots of reasons to be thankful, but I wanted you guys to know that I am thankful for all of you that make The Football Brainiacs possible. I’m a diehard fan that enjoys as much OU information as I can get. I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving

Ah.

Ditto.
From the department of redundancy department, I wholeheartedly agree.
very good website.
Think a lot of really good tejas kids are beginning to think about the reality of signing and maybe are 1) seeing that a lot of teams have some warts now and 2) they might not be as excited about their current ‘love’ or the distance in some cases. Think the staff is going to bring a quality QB in, too.
A happy and safe Thanksgiving to all the Brainiacs out there. Boomer!!!
Been an OU fan since 1972. Thanks for your particular expertise. Can we get a title in 2015? Please? Boomer!
Happy Thanksgiving TFB family.
In my opinion: anytime we can land someone solid, I’m good with that. Kyle Murray is a blazer. That’s always good. And, I don’t see how we could go wrong with Chason Virgil. The guy has an axe to grind after being snubbed. I’d hitch my wagon to either of them.
Virgil looked better than I expected on film so I’m with you. I’d take either one.
I would never presume to know about any single recruit. If the coaches think he is worth it, fine. That said, OU has a boat-load of receivers that are apparently not as good as the ones that have trouble getting open or catching passes now. More than two-deep with five receiver sets (leaving Perine, FB and TE on the bench). But OU doesn’t have enough LBs to field a two-deep without playing nickel.
Hey guys, as always thanks for the tremendous work you put in for Sooner fans and on behalf of the kids who are being recruited. Especially appreciative of the way you have been on top of the MissState/Virgil situation and getting the word out to potential MSU recruits from Texas.
My question/comment is based on the two more potential WR targets that are on the OU board in some manner (Lodge and Guyton). Do you see this as an indication of a high amount of current WR’s transferring out? Neal, Young, Mead, Smallwood? I personally don’t see Quick going anywhere especially with Mixon coming back. Dede Westbrook was commenting that Dorial and Shep are insinuating that they will return so I’m guessing there must be some serious rumblings of a mass of WR transfers. your thoughts?
I would say it has more to do with just not ever having “too many” wideouts. This is why i believed from the start they wanted/would take 3 receivers. That was also without thinking other wr would transfer.
Those who could go pro are DGB and shep. All indications are they would stay.
Neal young and woods have gotten a chance to produce so I don’t think they would leave but I wouldn’t be shocked if one or 2 of them left
Mead Todd smallwood and quick would stay no matter who’s being recruited I think.
That leaves Bennett Andrews a couple walk ons and bothun. I could see Bennett and Andrews leaving.
Andrews is switching to TE. He’s a lock as of now.
Last I heard Andrews was back running with the wideouts. I would hope the staff isn’t making him go back and forth
Any updates on John Houston? I believe Rivals has him down as visiting for Bedlam…
247 sports still has him down as a visitor. He is a huge lean to USC but California has been good to OU lately. Getting these athletes on campus is a start. 6 of the 8 visitors I have written down are from California, with the other 2 from Yazoo City, Ms. and Hyatsville, Md.
His HS is basically a pipeline to USC so it would be a longshot to get him…but definitely one worth taking.
If it’s junipero Serra like I think it is then it’s going to be hard to get him. I was hopeful last year with Dwight Williams. He ended up at ucla
Things I’m thankful for outside of family:
The Football Brainiacs and the wisdom of the posters here. Some really great people on here.
Amen………..can I get a witness?
BOOMER!!
True ALL dat. SOONER!!!
Happy Thanksgiving to TFB and all the great posters. I am thankful for my family, friends and the great work by the TFB crew. Thanks again for all the great info and Happy Holidays to eeveryoneon here .
Why do people keep mentioning Neal as a transfer possibility? He starts at WR for OU. I can’t remember the last time we had a guy start all season, and then transfer, for no apparent reason (ie, not grade or attitude related).
Also, I expect another WR to leave OU this offseason, on top of Cavil. Not sure who it will be, but the writing appears to be on the wall.
Happy Thanksgiving to all. Im pulling for some chaos this weekend. Auburn, Ole Miss, GT, UF, Arky, Michigan(no way is there? like the RRSO last season)
Are we looking at more receivers than we thought due to Cavil leaving and Mark Andrews moving to TE and maybe some other guys moving on that we do not know about yet? Seems like a month or so ago we were pretty sure that it would only be 1 maybe 2 if it were the right 2 WR’s this year but we already have two and they seem to be talking to others?!?!
DGB is as good as gone. Unless he had some kind of understanding with Stoops that he’d play a season in return for the 2nd chance
I don’t thing that Bob is any more mercenary than the average person, but why on earth would he put a kid on schollie and expend limited coaching resources on him without having some degree of confidence that he’d see the field. It makes no sense.
I would think so but at the same time, its not like they could stop him from leaving either
True that. But as I recall, DGB’s father was highly involved in getting him to OU. I got the feeling (and it was just that, I have no ‘in’ on this situation) that a part of what he was trying to do had as much to do with character building/restoring as with football. If so, you’d have to think that living up to a promise, even a verbal, unenforceable one, would be on the ‘to do’ list.
Yep, if that is indeed on the agenda for DGB. I don’t know him so I can’t say one way or another.
I agree I hope they can get him to stay besides all his problems. We have had great WR here for awhile but he is a WR that has a real shot to be a big time player on Sundays and it would be nice to associate that with a OU WR because with all our great players they have not had much success at the next level (Clayton, Broyles, Saunders, etc)
I’d like to see him stay as well but if he gets a 1st round grade from the draft advisory panel then Im sure he will go. He could very well be the difference in 11-1 next year and 9-3
I understand that based on talent alone DGB could play at the next level, but I think the argument that his character needs rebuilt has merit, and he would receive that information from the next level as well. Barring injury, should DGB choose to play at OU next year and showcases his talent, the year of behaving could only bolster his NFL prospects. Plus, degree.
This^ plus every indication is that he’s supposed to be here next year. They gave Dede that impression.
This recruiting is an amazing business . I remember Cortez Johnson ( 6-2/ 206-cornerback) and especially Quincy Russell ( 6-4/310-defensive tackle). Are they still on the team? I was sure they would be all-americans by now, shows what I know.
I have class with both of them lol they seem happy as ever. Quincy is glad to be done playing football because of his back problems and Cortez is still on the team. Just hasn’t suited up in awhile
Lodge is an interesting prospect…. I do wonder where things stand with Newsome as well….
Probably not going to happen since we offered/got Westbrook.
Lodge would be an outstanding get, if he’s looking to compete right away he should give OU a lot of attention. Any chance with all those talented reciecers we see 5-wide set?
I don’t think the odds of that happening are very good. They’ve got talented guys now and we don’t even run 4 wide sets much if at all. Also the epic meltdown from fans if samaje carries less than 5 times again in a loss would be enough to keep the coaches from even thinking of an air raid offense.
I don’t see Lodge at OU, although I can’t help but hope. Regardless of the formation, it’s obvious that OU needs to find some balance. Perine is a special player, but we can’t expect him to be the offense every game.
Stephen, I’m with you. Getting back in on Lodge, even for a visit, would be big.
That is not part of JHs vocabulary
I’m thankful for the three Fs: faith, family, and football. Without the third of these, The Football Brainiacs would be The Futbol Brainiacs. And that ain’t ‘Merican. Ha-rumph.
Congrats to the OU BBall team…
OU 75 UCLA 65
BOOMER!!!
SOONER!!!
They’re getting a lot better at just winning games, looked damn good down the stretch vs the Bruins.
Sooner!!
Yes… They tend to get a little carried away with shooting the 3 ball. IMO
Good win today. Butler next, so no rest for the weary.
Buddy said it best, coach K got on them to start attacking the rim and they won by ten. And Thomas’ reverse dunk from the baseline… Lawd have mercy!!
Buddy certainly got the message. He really changed the game in about a 5 minute span.
The play by Thomas was exceptional, great pass by Spangler made it possible.
Agreed on all accounts. Spangler and Thomas will be an outstanding combo in the paint when it’s all said and done
I hope if Murray switched his commitment very soon that he could be an early enrollee for the good guys and maybe compete for the starting spot, that’s the uber optimist in me talking though hahaha
As stated by many (most) on here, we followers ARE thankful that you guys started and maintain TFB. I hope you TFB gang have a great holiday. I will with my family, some friends, and some less-than-OU-standard football.
My sincerest Happy Thanksgiving to everyone here.
I am blessed and wish the same for all of you.
Might be a long night for texsa.

Kenneth mann’s senior highlights. He looks like he’s up to 260 and looks like a good future replacement when tapper leaves. I think if stoops can convince DGB to stick around there’s a good chance everyone sticks around on defense besides the 3 seniors.
That boy has a long stride to cover ground getting to the ball.
I think he and tyrell Jacobs are gonna be nightmares in this scheme.

Every kid trying to get offers needs to get this video guy. One of the better produced ones especially with the dub step music.
Dede Westbrook said he talked to DGB while in Norman and his plan was to stay, fwiw.
Yeah I know but I want to see what happens when the bowl game is over and he has a chance to declare for the draft. If he shows up to class next semester I’ll believe it.
True true. Have you seen anything on Overton? He’s a big question mark for me. Only 6’1″, over 300 lbs and runs in the mid 5’s. Doesn’t seem like the kind of athlete OU generally recruits and I haven’t seen any film from his senior season.
Well they list him at 6’1 but when he was at the Tennessee game he looked smaller than all the other guys in the picture. Most were only listed at 6’2 or so. I would guess he’s more like 5’11 but he must be good he’s rated high.
I really like that we are finally getting some Louisiana D-linemen. That state turns out some of the best. Mann looks like a great get.
Mann is from texas but Jacobs is from the boot. So far we’ve got 2 committed from Louisiana and 2 more are a very good possibility. Mcguinnis and Reid(who I don’t think has been offered by lsu yet)
Definitely need to keep recruiting their state and try to get into Georgia. Those are 2 states with limited in state options but turn out prospects like crazy.
You’re right. I think making inroads into Louisiana can only boost our talent level. Hopefully the success continues. Watching the TCU-Texas game, it looks like TCU has several D-linemen from the Pelican State.

I’m not sure if Jordan’s posted this before on the daily news but this is pretty good.
