The Path to Norman

Davon Mitchell was a California high school football player. The tight end was originally a member of the class of 2025 and began receiving offers all the way back in the early months of 2022. His OU offer came that summer, with offers from Alabama, Ohio State, USC, and plenty of other big programs joining the list. Despite the long list of offers, the Sooners secured Mitchell’s commitment in the summer of 2023, when he also announced his reclassification to the class of 2024.

Highlights

This Season

The Sooners’ tight end group gets an overhaul in 2024. OU brought in Bauer Sharp and Jake Roberts as transfers, along with Mitchell from high school. Returning players Kaden Helms and Kade McIntyre round out a group that will look to become a factor once again this fall. Sharp and Roberts will likely receive the lion’s share of the snaps this year. Mitchell may or may not redshirt this year, but has plenty of promise to be a playmaker at tight end for the Sooners.
