OU vs. KU | Game Thread

Will be interesting to see how much, if at all, this delay comes into play. And what type of a role the crowd can play in the game.
As of the time of posting, the game is still expected to start shortly after 12:30 pm CST and air on Fox Sports 1. But another weather delay, which we’ve heard is possible, could change things with respect to television.
But enough of that, let’s just go take care of business.

Some pretty significant news w/ Blake Bell not being available today. Could potentially mean if C.Thomas were to get hurt or dinged up and have to miss a play/series/whatever, they may have to burn the shirt of Justice Hansen.
Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.

Then again, that might not be a bad idea with Cody in there given his running ability.
Cody Thomas is 20/49 (40%) for 222 yards, 1 TD and 4 INTs. It doesn’t get much scarier than that. OU QBs have thrown 15 TDs and 13 INTs (or 16 & 14 if you count Durron Neal’s throws). I don’t think Hansen would be any worse.
It’s not about whether or not Hansen would be worse, it’s burning his RS this late into the season.
Hmmm… I guess we’re already prepping guys for next year so it’s ok from that standpoint. Speedy healing to Bell and all the other walking wounded.

I know he has struggled throwing the ball in this weather, but CT looks so much more comfortable running the offense than TK9 did. His reads on read option plays are solid, and his play fakes are fantastic. Really like this kid!

Hunter, it IS raining….hard. The Cummings kid who has been flinging it really well is also struggling, and he’s playing against one of the worst Pass D’s in the conference. Just sayin’.

Oh, I think he will be. Right now, he’s brand spanking new and isn’t really getting any help from his receivers. Our backfield will be DEEP next year. Wish I could say the same for our O line!
With Mayfield in the fold next year and if Justin Hansen can keep his redshirt, we may not see OU take a QB in this 2015 class and make a big push for a stud in the 2016 class.

I don’t know that he needs to – just because Perine is doing well doesn’t mean that there won’t be other touches. Heck, we could always just go back to the wishbone and run on every single one of our plays given the talent we have at RB (and the uncertainty we have at QB)
Maybe. But it seems to me Mixon is looking to be the #1 guy where he goes. I think the RB-by-committee approach only works with guys like Ford and Perine. Workhorse kids who don’t mind sharing the wealth. Hope Mixon shares that attitude. But hey, I’m also an idiot – so I could be way wrong.

Perine is the only back who runs with authority, Ford is too tentative at this stage in his career and that could be due to his injury a la Murray- he’ll get it back on track soon- as far as Ross, he’s starting to see the holes and make the cuts to get there, he’ll improve as well. At this point, Perine is the only one with all of those skills.
I’ll say it now so hopefully I don’t jinx us later. I WANT A SHUTOUT!

Pretty amazing game for Perine so far. He’s got the half time record cause Marcus had a carry or two in the third quarter of the Fiesta before pulling a hamstring for his third serious injury of that game, and had to stop, but he averaged 14 yards a carry. Also, that was vs. a much better defense. Other than that game tho’ hard to think of one that compares. Huge Kudos to the O’line. How bout the gaps to run through untouched. Wow!
One more thing. Perine and the Oline tend to be stronger in the second half. This might be fun.

Great piece. Perine offered to sit and Stoops wanted him to have some records. Very humble kid and props for Stoops for letting him get into the history books.
And for calling a timeout to let the team celebrate with him, Literally pushed him back on the field for an encore he didn’t feel he needed.

I’ll tell you, brother, that rain sucked. I considered leaving early in 2nd qtr. Having your ass cheeks and nutsack drenched and having little luck with the poncho keeping water out will do that to you. When I got home, I stripped EVERYTHING off because I couldn’t have gotten any wetter had I jumped in the shower fully clothed…coat, shirt, t-shirt, jeans, socks, boots, undies…heck, even my leather belt & wallet were drenched.
But I’m glad I stayed to watch Perine. I texted my sister at halftime when I saw his stats that he was on pace to break that Wisconsin rb’s record. I figured they’d pull him out before that happened to avoid injury but they let him get it. And it was as much fun watching Ripkowski blast people out of his way as it was to see Samaje run. The Perine-Ripkowski combo simply wasn’t fair to use against KU. They knew it was coming and still couldn’t stop it.

I guess the guy is solid muscle. The announcers last week were saying that he doesn’t have elite speed yet I haven’t seen any defensive backs or other speed players catch him from behind yet. And some of them have the angle on him! In those photo’s you can see one of them at the end with him walking away with our “Home of the 47 game winning streak” sign in front of him. His calf muscles are so large it looks like he has balloons in his pant legs!

Every O Line recruit in the nation should want to come block for OU. Keith ford & Alex Ross look like roll players and they could start on just about any other team in Amercia. I say we try and close the OLine recruiting this week with Barnett & Wariboko and keep running this ball down peoples throats for the next few years!!!

Nah, nothing special according to Wisky fans. 427 yards against a terrible Kansas, who nearly beat TCU last week, who (TCU) destroyed Minnesota, who beat Nebraska today, a team that nearly lost to McNeese State at home, and a team that is nearly identical to Kansas when it comes to rush defense. Of course, all of this was done in the pouring rain by a true freshman.
But yeah, nothing special. It was just Kansas. Can’t compare to those Big 10 powerhouse offensive juggernauts.

It’s going to be a long 2 weeks till Bedlam. Our QB competition next year should be great next year, if everyone is healed up. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear Cody Thomas has a sprained back. He had to do a lot of twisting and turning to hand off to Mr. hitch up and go. How many players does OU have banged up now, I have lost track.
My concern for next year is the loss at OL. Both OTs and starting OGs (Shead and Savage) are all seniors. If we’re expecting more 200-400+ rushing days, some young hogs are *really* gonna have to step up.
I think Mayfield runs away with it, but I also think we shouldn’t count out TK in the QB competition. Kid has the drive to get better.
I’m not that concerned about the line. I’m sure they will make some mistakes but the line was supposed to be our strongest group of players and they let us down in the losses. They got dominated by tcu Baylor and kstate. If the receivers and qb are good next year and on the same page then I believe the line will look good.
I can dig it. Danley is a nice add and Farniok is a solid back-up right now with game experience. That and we got two freshman OTs that are 340+.
Don’t forget 6’4″ 375lb Joseph Paul at guard. He helped make Fournette famous in high school

I’m kind of mad they burned Alvarez RS early in the season. Darlington does need to get up to 300 at least if not the need a different center. 285 vs 310 for average DT isn’t going to cut it if this team wants to win a title.
I didn’t realize they burned Alvarez’s redshirt. I wondered about Mike Gundy burning their QB’s redshirt for 2 games. Maybe he had no other choice or Boone Pickens told him to do it.
Well they just weren’t going to RS Alvarez I guess because he played in the first 2 games and that was it I think so unless they say he was injured I don’t think there’s any way to get that RS back. Also mead didn’t get a RS either. Very questionable if you ask me.

I thought there was a maximum number of plays or percentage of games involved when determining a RS. Mead and Alvarez weren’t involved in very many plays, Alvarez probably fewer than Mead.
That’s what I thought too but I think that’s if you try to claim a medical hardship. If not then I would think osu could still RS Rudolph
I’m not sure either but this year will account for a RS for Alvarez & Mead.
I believe it is 3% or less of all plays for a season. So if he’s under that, he should have that year back.
They want Darlington to weigh 285 cause he moves better than when he was 300. He’s better at 285.
Well I guess that’s a good point that way he can get to the second level but on 3rd and one 285 won’t push the pile
leverage will. Hope your not calling out one guy for the lack of push. They push a pile on quick hitting plays for 1st downs. It’s the zone reads that take 3 to 4 seconds that cause the issue.
I like Darlington. I haven’t seen him get beat as often as I have Shead and Savage, plus he is much quicker than they are.

My only thing is if we have true freshmen play on the oline then they have to be special. If not then that means our depth is horrible. To me linemen need to RS unless they are freakishly special.
Josh from ss put out a teaser saying “the visitors are on their way home and a few could be contemplating a commitment.” Obviously I’m not gullible enough to pay for that info because these are kids…may end up going home sleeping on it going back to school Monday and have a completely different opinion when they get back around their friends.
That’s a double edged sword. But I do get tired of OU not getting recruits to commit sooner. It has it’s pros and cons. Like KLS committing to UCLA yesterday, it keeps your team in the news. Sort of like what Perine did for OU yesterday. What is it a little over 70 days to NLOI signing day. I’m telling you we need a linebacker commit in the worst way.

Also, wanted to say this about Perine. The most impressive thing about him isn’t his power, his speed, or even his determination. It’s his ability to see the holes. The kid rarely misses where he “should” be going with the football. And on a similar note, and I believe Bob or one of the other coaches said something similar after the game, his ability to know WHEN to hit the hole (ie, his pace) is outstanding as well. Kid just has a great “feel” for the game.

As historic as the day was for Perine and the OL, a nice tip of the hat to the defense.
From the DL to the DBs, they played extremely well. The Ahmad Thomas INT was a thing of beauty and the coverage by all the DBs was as good as I have seen this year. I realize the weather conditions effected the passing game for both sides, but the defense seemed inspired and it could have been the offense helped give them a spark.
Wish Ford hadn’t cost them the shutout.
Phenomenal.
Other than the last run, my favorite play was his 5th TD. One of the DBs swatted at the ball, but had absolutely NO interest in trying to tackle him.
Reminds me of 5-yr-old soccer. There’s always some kid just standing in the middle of the field, and anytime the ball comes by he feebly swings a leg at it. That DB showed about as much interest.
