FOOTBALL

If you missed it yesterday, Steven Parker’s father & Jim Traber went at it pretty good on the radio. (TFB)

Uh-oh.

More details on what that tweet alludes to, which probably won’t amount to much of anything. So I’m officially retracting my “uh-oh.” (NewsOK)

As I was saying.

RECRUITING

Stop me if you’ve heard this before…OU misses out on a 2015 LB offer. (Twitter)

I haven’t dogged kish yet but im starting to get worried like for real. I know everyone is really high on wheeler and he could be a fine player but im not all that impressed with his film so even if we do get him its not that big of a victory in my eyes. Don’t bash its my honest opinion

    • hemisooner says:

Very worried about LB recruiting. Maybe evans and bolton have impressed at ILB but you still need 4 LBs in this class. We got nothing so far.

    • soonermusic says:

those who want to bash Kish are going to make a deal out of every “miss” even if it’s someone you wouldn’t really want.

  • Sooner Ray says:

Gundy has said LosuR doesn’t use all of their practice days so they probably don’t use all their scholarships either. No real penalty.

  • blaster1371 says:

3-4 defense…… Linebackers are a huge deal ( as I reckon every position is). Might need to juice that particular coaching position like the did when they hired Monty. I can’t really see where the linebackers have hurt OU so his coaching doesn’t seem suspect. Kish just seems to have a tough time connecting and selling the program and that is WITH the assistance of Stoops and Month.

  • Jeremy Phillips says:

Damn! How old was that man???

    • Sooner Ray says:

Old enough to feel good about wearing a sweater with sweat pants.

    • paganpink says:

I DUNNO. BUT HE WASN’T PLAYING!

    • pitbull17 says:

He for sure had some boxing experience. Old man was probably as bad as they come during his hey day. Wonder how embarrassed the young guy was?

    • Jake says:

That was a bad spot for the young guy though and I think that old dude knew it. Young guy looks like an ass if he comes out swinging and by the time he figured out the old man was serious, his bell was already rung.
But as it says, always respect your elders. Some of them old men do not mess around.

    • Jeremy Phillips says:

9 times outta 10, i think that old guy kicks the younger guys ass..

  • Malicong says:

Losing Thomas isn’t that big of a deal. He was a late offer and no one really ever expected OU to land him anyway. If Wheeler, DeBerry, or McKee commit elsewhere, then I would be really worried.

  • SCSooner87 says:

That Traber call was horrendous. What a blowhard. How can people actually stand listening to him? I wanted to stick around and listen to the full call, but Traber screaming and yelling made it impossible.

    • Clint Lenard says:

Honest to god, I heard a grown man that was about to start crying. So defensive. First time listener, never again. Terrible.

    • RBear says:

Shaping the minds… of no one. What a blow hard loser.

Feel really sorry for those who live under the same roof as this “guy”.

  • pitbull17 says:

I’ve been saying for a couple of years now that Kish isn’t going to be able to get the LB’s in here we need. I think he’s a good coach but he just isn’t the type of recruiter we need.

  • Kuzi says:

I’m a pretty positive person but I am finding it more and more difficult to stay positive lately.

    1. We are not the recruiting force we used to be. Sure, we land some talented players, but the talent gap between us and our competitors is much smaller than it was 10 years ago.

    2. We haven’t been competitive (for a national title) late into the season in a number of years. We drop games, usually 2, and end up hoping someone drops some games so that we can claw back into the Big XII race. That is not what OU football does.

    3. It shouldn’t do it, but every year it seems that the National Championship losses weigh heavier and heavier… now it is almost like we as a collective group want it too much. It doesn’t help that two of my other sports teams (the Thunder and the Rangers) also have championship losses in that time span and the Dallas Cowboys have been irrelevant for 18 years. I know that is a bit of a digression, but I think it compounds my personal frustration with sports.

    4. This was supposed to be “the year.” It is looking like just another year.

    5. I watch the games and cannot fathom some of the decisions. I am a huge Bob Stoops guy and I don’t necessarily want anyone fired. I just want them to adapt, identify these obvious problems, and come up with solutions. I don’t think that that is a strength of the staff at this time. For instance, a no-huddle team should never have to burn so many time outs. That is just one example. I feel like someone should send them something on quality control and root cause analysis… anything to make them identify and fix some of these issues.

Sorry, but I had to vent. I’m stepping back from football and sports in general for a bit. Probably just watch the game and that’s it (no more message boards or talk radio, etc). I feel like they can become all consuming and a huge time sink. Like I said, I think I just want to see a championship too much. Let’s be honest, this stuff is not actually THAT important.

    Later.
