BREAKING: PJ Mbanasor Commits To Oklahoma

Image via Max Olson (ESPN/Twitter)

Spoke to PJ Mbanasor just now and he has officially committed to the University of Oklahoma! He says he “is done with recruitment.” He also said “I’ve analyzed every factor, prayed about it, considered in my heart, and I am done with recruitment. I am 100,000% sure!”

When I asked him why Oklahoma he said, “they fit everything I’m looking for…from a football perspective…an academic perspective…my parents were very happy with the visit…it’s just right.”

    Yes yes!

  • Dr. Doobie says:

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOM goes the dynamite!!!!!! Man this makes my day, week, month!!! Huge pick up!!!

    • Super K says:

Derrick Baity! Though I’ve got a new one from Texas y’all have to see. And he’s teammates with a heck of a pass rusher too.

      • Dr. Doobie says:

You and your crew here possess great eyes for talent that is either already touted or should be touted. So if we have another stud closer to home, let’s get it.

        • JY says:

Doobie, thanks for the kind words. We are believers in a few in state kids. Hopefully we’ll get hot on em soon.

          • Dr. Doobie says:

I have 2 YOUNG boys(3yr and 18 months), but I hope that when they are of recruiting age, there will be a group of guys out there like you gentlemen, or maybe even you guys still going strong, that will be getting talented young men exposure. I can only hope that my boys will be studs, but I’m also realistic. You gentlemen are doing a wonderful thing!

          • Baron Boomer says:

Nice post (& all the best to the boys being Sooners!)

Great news and great coverage (again!) by tab!!!

            Boomer!

          • Dr. Doobie says:

            Thank you sir!
            Sooner!

          • JY says:

Just keep reading our stuff. We’re all in our 30’s, so hopefully we’ll be around for your sons. We believe that if we make it about the kids and do things right, then Higher Powers will honor that and bless our work.

          • Gary Robbins says:

A special thanks for all the TFB crew does in regards to Oklahoma kids in getting these athletes exposure. I was thinking about some of the Oklahoma kids this year like: Barnett, Sunderland, Wariboko, Overton, Green, Whitfield, Patterson, Cantrell, Daniel ,plus the others who are not on everybody’s list at the moment. It seems like Oklahoma has a lot of top notch kids this year.

      • Jason Vos says:

        whats his name?

  • soonerborn says:

BOOM! I think landing him will help with recruiting other defensive players.

  • shawn says:

That’s great news. Now hopefully we can get a few more with his help.

  • BigJoeBrown says:

BOOOOOOOMMMMMMM!!!! This just made the day. Well done Sooners, Well done. And PJ, welcome to the Sooner Nation!

  • soonerinks says:

Heck Yes, welcome to OU football PJ! Big time commit!

  • connie usa says:

My stinky day just got a boost. Thank you TFB for posting!!!

  • Brian says:

I remember when y’all first uncovered PJ last year…You swore he would be a big-time recruit and you sure were! Glad to have him on board…Now let’s all say it together, “em-BAHN-uh-sor”

  • Zack says:

I guess this can calm the “sky is falling posters” for a day or two. But great job with all the posts on this kid.

    • Doobie74OU says:

Zack have you had prolonged discussions with anyone like that lately! Anyone that stubbornly sticks to their guns that OU recruiting is doomed and sees no “Light at the End of the Tunnel” Also I think you are a little optimistic about it holding them off a full day or two we will see a post asking “WHO IS NEXT?” before the end of the day! LOL!

      • Zack says:

Lol good point yeah we will hear that by tonight. But I think this might help with guys like newsome and proche.

      • CoachStauder says:

Not sure if you were referring to myself, but if you go back and read my posts there is never a tone that OU is “doomed”, just that changes need to be made and I had facts to back it up. Never said the sky was falling and in fact I said the program will be good as long as Stoops is at the helm. I was making the points about what OU needs to do in order to get back to where they were from 2000 to 2008.

However, this is a great get and kudos to the coaches on closing the deal.

        • SoonerfanTU says:

We aren’t that far off. Better QB play some years. Better defense some years. Defense has been addressed in a major way.

        • Zack says:

And hopefully with the changes they made with the coaches and the pending changes to facilities they can get back to that level. I do think they have the talent on campus right now to reach that level they need to stay healthy and the coaches need to get the best out of the players.

        • Doobie74OU says:

NO! NO! Not talking about anybody specifically! Over the last couple months Zack has been real optimistic about OU and were OU is at while others have pressed harder for changes! We all know improvements can and need to be made every year even everyday! I really like all the diverse positions on this sight and I love talking to people that don’t totally agree with me. If they all agreed wouldn’t be any fun to talk! You keep posting your observations and I will keep posting mine and hopefully we will celebrate a National Championship together, SOONER rather than later!

          • Zack says:

Always gotta have hope I’m the same way with the thunder. But yes it’s interesting when we have different views because we all look at certain events and have a different perception and maybe sometimes a little insight from someone on the other side of the spectrum can make us more aware.

  • Sooner Ray says:

Let’s all go out for ice cream! BOOOOOMER!!

  • Jordan Esco says:

Tweeting ‘Let’s goooo! I’m done’ is “announcing your commitment” or just
a way for others to piggyback w/o citing who first reported it?

Sorry, maybe that’s petty on my part but it’s really pissing me off K & TFB aren’t getting the credit they deserve for breaking this news.

    • lovethemsooners says:

Patience. It’ll come. You guys are a real new website, but word has already been traveling. There are several of us that are “paying” members of other websites(before we found this one), that will more than likely be ending our subscriptions with those other sites. Not because they cost, but because the information here is superior. Just keep doing what you are doing because this website is blowing up, and word is getting around about you.

      • Jordan Esco says:

        Appreciate the kind words

      • JB says:

Exactly. I don’t even waste my time on the other sites anymore. TFB is where I come to get OU football news & updates. I haven’t posted on the others (scoop or scout, & never wasted time on 24/7) since I found this site. But I stumbled across this site by a lucky accident when it was referenced on scout in a forum posting about hale claiming theft of info by TFB with a link to TFB.

    • Super Keith says:

Credit comes from the public, and the public KNOWS who broke the story. This is the FIST and BEST source of Sooner recruiting info.

      • Jordan Esco says:

        Much appreciated

        • Gary Robbins says:

Jordan, I posted this info on the previous post over 2 hours ago before I had even read your post. To be honest TFB is always first to report and who does it first is of no concern of mine.

    • JB says:

We know who broke it first. That’s what counts, right?

      • Jordan Esco says:

Yes. It’d just be nice if people held themselves to the same standard they constantly expect others to adhere to when the shoe is on the other foot.

Believe me, it’s entirely about getting the recognition the work the guys here are doing to those who, for whatever reasons, may not be aware of it yet. It’s in no way about bringing attention to anything else, including myself.

  • Doobie74OU says:

Did you hear that collective “SSSIIIGGGGHHHH!” from OU fans who have been waiting for a big commitment! Great News on a GREAT RECRUIT!

  • Will Narramore says:

Read the article about recruiting issues.. took a nap.. woke up from the nap and Mbanasor has committed.. I should nap more often

  • Jordan Esco says:

Not to hijack the thread but just an fyi.
    https://twitter.com/ChristianDavon2/status/473894587014971393

    • Jim says:

      dude is filthy
reminds me a bit of Adoree Jackson last year or a bigger Jalen Saunders

  • CoachStauder says:

Kudos to our coaches for closing the deal with him on campus! I know I have my opinions in the other thread, but I’m not one to lay off the praise when something great happens. The kid was interested in some big schools too! Great get!

    • Super K says:

Classy post coach. And one commitment certainly doesn’t absolve the staff of the fair criticism some make but as you indicated…they did a great job with pj and this is a happy day 🙂

  • EasTex says:

    Fantastic news!
I like this young man. I believe he will be a valuable player and leader for the Sooners.

  • rphdenton says:

…..besides the commit, the most important thing is he’s said he’s done with recruiting……hope he can stick with it

  • j l says:

thank goodness! hopefully this is the spark we needed, let the floodgates open!

  • Zack says:

WE MADE IT TO THE TOP….40.

  • Jim says:

    1. I told you guys a few weeks ago that I had a dream we landed Mbanasor. BOOM!
    2. His nickname shall be: Mbanasoraus Rex
    3. When I first saw his hudl film in February, my first thought was – he’s a bigger Jason Verrett. And that’s a damn good thing.

  • lovethemsooners says:

He can’t be done with recruiting as he indicates. He must now get involved with recruiting from the other side. Start lining them up PJ.

  • Super Keith says:

Anyone else shocked by the timing? I really expected Mbanasor to wait until closer to NSD. This is a great pick up, and I feel very confident that this one sticks (not always the case).

    • SoonerfanTU says:

Nope. I’ve always felt like OU was in good shape for him, in some ways, even after he committed to TCU. A little shocked it came today, but he took the visit with his folks, confirmed it was where he wanted to be, no reason to wait around.

      • Super Keith says:

I wasn’t worried that he wouldn’t commit to OU, I am just shocked that he decided now.

    • Super K says:

We weren’t but I had to play it close to the vest because he wanted it to be a surprise 🙂

      • BigJoeBrown says:

You’re good…oh your good Super K. Here we are all sweating bullets and you knew!!!

      • Doobie74OU says:

Come on Super K! WHAT ELSE AREN”T YOU TELLING US!?!? LOL!

      • Super Keith says:

I just respect this place more and more every day! Good job K, it’s nice to see folks not trying to steal the thunder of 17 and 18 year olds!

    • Doobie74OU says:

I know people have said they aren’t close friends but it couldn’t have hurt how Perine talked in that article today how much better his Senior season was knowing he didn’t have to worry about recruiting! Maybe the Coach at Hendrickson encourages them to commit when they are sure and there is no reason to wait! Glad to have him on board!

  • Travis Coyle says:

Hell ya!! Today has no turned in to a great day. I love the way he plays!!

  • BoomerNation says:

I didn’t know yall had a YouTube channel! I typed in PJ Mbanasor on YT and yall were the first result! You guys are the full package!

  • Sooner786 says:

Someone should call James Hale’s radio show and ask him who broke the
news of Mbanasor’s commitment…If someone does please record it and
    post it!

    • Super K says:

      Lol

      • Gary Robbins says:

It has been discussed how Stoops seems to slow play and is not a commit today or else type person. But it seems all the coaches had breakfast with P.J. and they were on the point so to speak. How you kept it a secret till now is a reason the recruits and mentors confide in you. Keep up the good work and I was so excited I’ve missed part of happy hour. Thanks for the TFB crew.

  • James D-Space says:

    BOOM!!!!

  • Mr. Jones says:

Any recruits Mbanasor is close enough with for this to have an impact on?

    • Zack says:

I’ve heard newsome is close with him. And I think tfb has reported proche and newsome are close. Hopefully there are more including lane.

      • Gary Robbins says:

I know who Newsome is but who is Proche?

        • Zack says:

Another slot receiver. I think we offered him about a month ago

        • Zack says:

Actually have not offered but we should.

          • Super K says:

Agree. Proche is so nice. I have a friend who is tight with the TN staff and he asked why they aren’t recruiting Proche and he said because there is a coach on the staff where Proche goes to school that they don’t want to deal with. It’s too bad because Proche is such a good kid and a heck of a player. Would certainly fill a need for OU. I’d bet money that if OU offered he’d commit. And with him and Newsome being tight and Newsome already having OU in his top schools…it would help big time with Proche.

          • Zack says:

We need to call jay up and let him know. Although I know he knows about the kid and he’s probably higher on stanley Norman and newsome and his numbers are limited but I wish he would just offer proche who looks like he could be a broyles type of player.

          • Gary Robbins says:

I’m beginning to wonder if there is anybody that you and the TFB crew don’t know!!! Don’t get me wrong it’s not always what you know but who you know. I think everybody loves this site because you can discuss and disagree without being called idiot, dumb, stupid, etc. Just my humble take during “Happy Hour”

          • Sooner Ray says:

Let me get caught up with ya Gary and I’ll start calling you names, HAHA.

          • Gary Robbins says:

            Cool, ok. Love this site.

          • Gary Robbins says:

Quick question off the wall. Was looking at the 2015 OU commits, is it common for the number one kicker in the country to be rated only a 2-star?

          • Sooner Ray says:

I would think so, many times they don’t even get offered a full ride. You’ve seen how bad those star people miss on kids, I wouldn’t expect them to show any love at all to a kicker. I don’t care if they call him a 1 star, kid can kick.

          • Zack says:

Thanks for posting that. At the 42 second mark the block he puts on down field and knocks 2 guys down that’s worthy of an offer.

          • Gary Robbins says:

Thanks for the link. Does he have an OU offer. Did not see it on 247 Sports under commits.

          • Zack says:

I don’t think he’s been offered yet but I think tfb has posted that one of the coaches has visited him not sure if it was specifically norvell. For some reason I’m thinking Monty was the last coach of ours to visit which sounds weird but because he does so much of the footwork I believe he’s not only visiting dline prospects.

          • Zack says:

            Boulware.

          • Sooner Ray says:

Thanks Toats, Like Zack said, that down field blocking is exactly what OU coaches love and when he’s in the open field, it’s like he’s in a dance contest with a bunch of one-legged men.

          • ToatsMcGoats says:

            Absolutely welcome!

    • Doobie74OU says:

I think PJ and Perine are both from Pflugerville, TX Hendrickson HS so it just continues strengthening that relationship. Tyrus Thompson is from there also!

  • kt-raida says:

    Thank you!!!!!!

  • The D says:

    BOOMER

  • Eddie and Amber says:

Great news!!! Huge talent stolen right in the horns backyard. Recruiting Issues #3 blog was spot on as HS Coach played a role in support to his decision. Great momentum heading into the summer months.

  • Indy_sooner says:

YESSIR!!! Love me some DBs every year. Welcome PJ! Like I said yesterday, Bob’s got this, #Aintworriedaboutnothing

  • William Ryan says:

Was praying he committed today as I logged on!!!

  • ohiosoonerdevildog says:

Haha finally a bit of good news. Things have seemed gloomy the past month or so. Now hopefully the talk of us being preseason #1 doesnt go to the players heads.

  • Tulsa Terry says:

Big win for OU and TFB!

  • Sooner Ray says:

Someone did wake up Hale and let him know….right?

    • EasTex says:

    • JJ says:

Spoken like the smart ass I know!

      • Sooner Ray says:

I didn’t want to let you down babe, I did let you know about PJ, gotta give me that one.

        • JJ says:

Babe, it’s all good! I loved the hale comment! Not get me another beer! Lol… Seriously it’s been that kinda day. Your comment made me smile!

  • Sooner Ray says:

Anybody heard about McKenzie being down to Tenn. and Az.?

    • Zack says:

I hadn’t but I did just see where he’s going to announce July 10th.

    • Zack says:

      Welp

      • Sooner Ray says:

Didn’t really shock me, was just hoping we had a good chance.

        • Zack says:

Yeah me either but I was hoping he would draw the process out until after New Years which I thought would give us a good chance plus the fehoko factor with them being cool.
I guess there’s still a chance he opens the recruiting back up to take some officials.

          • BigJoeBrown says:

I am going to be honest…this just makes me want to give Tennessee a massive beat-down come September.

          • EasTex says:

They are known as UT and their color is orange.
Schools like that deserve a half a hundred beat down on principle alone.

          • JJ says:

Exactly! Can’t wait to beat that ass.

      • L'carpetron Dookmarriot says:

Of all the teams recruiting him, to pick those two. Weird.

  • leatherneck1061 says:

Bloody awesome! Didn’t have a chance to check in with you guys yesterday, but sure glad I did today. What a HUGE pickup! Keep up the great work guys 😉
