TFB Short | 2018 Incoming Speed

One of the things many of you probably noticed in the Ohio State game is that after Badet and maybe Lamb there seemed to be a big drop off in open field speed. Last year OU had Westbrook and Mixon. Before that the Sooners had Shepard. But in general when you looked at Ohio State, they had multiple guys on offense who made you hold your breath every time they touched the ball.

I was on the phone last night with a friend here in Texas who, years ago, played WR in the SEC. He’s a good evaluator of talent and knows most of the TX talent pretty well. He’s seen the TX OU WR commits live.

I’ve been asked on the site if OU has any WRs that can come in and make an instant impact. I know number of you notice that outside of a few guys, OU seems to be missing those real weapons. In fact Riley himself commented on this recently saying, essentially, that he wishes they could’ve surrounded Baker with more weapons.

While I still don’t have an answer to the question of who might be an instant guy (though I’m beginning to think it’ll be a guy no one is talking about like Kundarrius Taylor), as I spoke to my friend about it he made a comment that I thought was worth sharing.

“I don’t know how many of those (2018) guys will be ready right away but OU may have the best track team in the country on the football team next year. They’ve got a bunch of 10.5 guys coming in. Jaylon can run, Treveon can run and Crawford can fly”.

My friend did also remind me that Rambo will be ready next year. After a year of a physical development and getting accustomed to the physicality of the game, everyone believes he’s going to be a problem.

In general I think this incoming OU WR class is going to have a level of speed across the board that they haven’t had in a while.
