Spitballin…Thoughts on Oklahoma Vs. Oklahoma St.

Well, college gameday is going to be there.  The Sooners seem to perform well when they are.  Oddsmakers have OSU as a 3 point favorite which means it’s a tossup.  By Vegas standards, homefield advantage counts for 3 points.  So in this case with the spread set at 3, Vegas is in essence saying it could go either way.

To that point it very well could.  I could honestly see Oklahoma come out with their hair on fire and beat this Oklahoma State team like a drum.  I can see the same thing happening the other way too.  I could see this being a back and forth affair coming down to the last possession.  Honestly i really don’t know what to expect.

In the 1st quarter last week, Texas Tech looked like the New England Patriots.  They went up and down the field at will on the first three possessions.  Then, the Sooners got their stuff together, tweaked alignment, added intensity and made them look like the Cleveland Browns.

Have the Sooners prepared with a sense of urgency this week?  Will they be ready to go at kickoff?  Will they be ready to go midway through the 3rd quarter if they’re up a couple of scores?  Will they be mature enough as a team to play a full 60 minutes like they did in Columbus?

It’s a lot of questions that will be answered here in about two days time.  I do think the Sooners are getting healthy at the right time though.  I think CeeDee Lamb & Abdul Adams being back and full speed will be a big deal in this game.  I still think if they are full go against Iowa State, Oklahoma is Still undefeated.

Have the Sooners learned from their mistakes?  Can they be the worldbeaters they looked like against Ohio State?  The buckeyes are a dang good football team, and with the lights on and the spotlight bright, the Sooners looked better than they had in ages.  They can play like that all the time.  Will they?

Can the Sooners make Oklahoma State one dimensional?  I think you’ll see a lot of 4 man front against the Cowboys.  OU will have to shut down their run game and force them to 3rd and long situations.  They’ll have to tackle in space and create negative plays.  Turnovers will be key as well.  Will we see a more aggressive Mike Stoops?

All four of the main Oklahoma backs, Anderson, Adams, Sermon & Sutton are all averaging right at or well over 6 yards a carry.  I don’t see Oklahoma State stopping the run game.  I’d love to See Riley grind the Cowboy defense to dust.

I’d love to see drives like the 11 minute keepaway drive at the end of the game that doesn’t allow the other team on the field.  Keeps your defense fresh, allows for adjustments & takes the other team out of rhythm.

I’m feeling 42-28 Sooners.  I just want Oklahoma to win.  I get the sense they’re focused and ready to go.  Hopefully I’m right.
