Sooners News Daily 5.1.14

Welcome to May, everyone

FOOTBALL

You probably didn’t hear yesterday, because nobody was talking about it, but Jameis Winston got in a little trouble. (Yahoo)

‘Aaron Colvin is one to watch come draft time’ (Sun Times)

Sometimes Okie State just makes it so easy it almost takes the fun out of it. So they’re giving out rings now in Stoolwater for a bowl game in which they lost? Classic. (Twitter)

CFB playoff news. (SI)

Something would have to go drastically wrong for OU to finish with the fifth best set of RBs in the Big 12, so consider these more than temporary rankings. (ESPN)

BASKETBALL

Sad news here on former Sooners star Mookie Blaylock. (KFOR)

OSU’s Le’Bryan Nash was arrested. (NewsOK)

RECRUITING

Sooners have offered 2015 6’3″ shooting guard out of Georgia, Malik Beasley. (Twitter)

OTHER

Softball got an easy win on the road. (Sooner Sports)

I guess it would make for a good ‘how did you two meet’ story at dinner parties.

Typically a good watch.

I think they give out bowl rings in Norman also win, lose or draw. Bowl participants get a ring, anyway they did when I played. Call it a participation ring.

You never want to see your RB fumble, but it’s going to happen. For a freshman to fumble twice and lose only one doesn’t justify saying Ford has a fumble problem. That sort of label could haunt him. I view it as a learning experience, an opportunity to improve.

Sure hate it that Mookie is in trouble. What a great Sooner.

Completely agree, same thing happened to Arian Foster. Granted, he got labeled with a fumble problem later in his college career but still got the label non the less. Look at him now!

        Good point.
Ford didn’t fumble when he took that big shot from Byrd in the spring. Not worried about Ford being the featured RB at all.

I also relate a ton of it to his running style. People need to remember that AD lost the ball too. When you run with that smashmouth style it will increase your odds of getting hit in a way that you can’t hold onto the ball ie. helmet on the ball. Ford has a ton of potential and a great attitude. I think he will be fine. I think people made it into a bigger thing last years but they have to realize we had 3 senior running backs in front of him most of the year. So coaches probably just wanted to go with what they knew would work. But they also wouldn’t have played him in the Sugar Bowl if they thought he had a real fumble problem.

I thought the shirtless dude was carrying a pot belly pig at first. Which would have made it that much better.

just voted on NewsOK about who the #1 college football team should be, heading into this Fall. I voted FSU and it revealed that roughly 40% of Oklahomans think that OU should be #1 over Bama, FSU, Oregon, and Auburn. Personally, I like to have humility when discussing those sort of things.
