Have fun and be safe tonight

FOOTBALL

This is pretty damn scary for Tony Jefferson. (Deadspin)

First it was Bob Stoops stupidly being mentioned for the expected soon to be available Michigan job by CFB “experts” who had no clue what they were talking about, and now it’s Joe Castiglione. (Football Scoop)

RECRUITING

OTHER

Looks like fun times at last night’s OU Baseball ALS Awareness scrimmage. (Sooner Sports)

Women’s b-ball held a scrimmage last night as well. (Sooner Sports)

why all the offers to committed CB’s Jordan? You think the coaches feel someone might decommit from OU or they’re going to miss out on a target they felt good about?

    • hOUligan says:

It’s more about missing. Looking at 247 I don’t find OU in the finals for a single CB they’ve been recruiting. It’s almost as disappointing as the ILB recruiting where OU has noone and both are areas of great need. At least we’ve got PJ at CB and Sunderland at safety.

      • Kelly Gurbcock says:

So what you’re saying is all this recruiting momentum we had is gone? Hope we can find a few diamonds in the rough (ala Charles Walker) and develop some 2-3 star guys…

        • vargo05 says:

Pretty much. With what you’ve seen us do on defense most of the year, if you were a kid, would you be overly anxious to come to OU? Kids want to play an attacking style, not a “sit back and let somebody run into you and hope they fall down style”. Our coaching and scheme right now is a great recruiting tool against us.

I wish we didn’t have to rely so heavily on “momentum” to land recruits and/or to lure them away from schools like texas tech, tcu, baylor etc.

    • Jordan Esco says:

I don’t think anyone is decommitting, grated they only have one CB commit. And, yes, I do think these offers are a reflection of how they must feel re: their previous offers. Also could have something to do w/ the current roster, but I tend to stay away from that type of speculation this time of the year/season.

    • Chris White says:

I feel like they are trying to bring in guys they can move to LB. Jordan Evans played Safety before LB so maybe they are trying that.

  • ComancheJoe says:

Do you think Tony forgot that he really wanted to play football at USC too?

  • blaster1371 says:

Recruiting on the defensive side of the ball seems somewhat frantic right now.

  • Sooner Ray says:

This recruiting is looking tough, we may need to hand out better candy.

  • @DallasSooner says:

These recruiting woes don’t make any sense. I mean we did build a nice student dorm. Problem fixed?

  • CS says:

Michigan LB coming on a visit, tells me Jerry is getting in on LB recruiting. Already feeling a bit better.

    • Jordan Esco says:

I know this is an exaggeration on my part, but sometimes I feel like every kid you hear is “high on OU” Monty is their lead recruiter.

      • CS says:

Might not be an exaggeration, he is a beast of a recruiter. The others in this staff not named Gundy need to step up to match him, really!

      • Chris White says:

They truly may need to bring in a recruiting coordinator that is solely focused on LB’s. I don’t see them firing Kish so something will need to change with his recruiting.

  • SoonerGray says:

Ummmm, which of our current CB commits is wavering….

  • Chris White says:

As a Cowboys fan I hope he doesn’t play, but as a human being I would never wish for an Injury on someone. Even a Texass player. Hope the team Doctors are taking this very seriously

  • Jason Rudd says:

Wow. Both Kirkland and Briscoe are impressive. Kirkland reminds me of a prototypical Alabama LB. And Briscoe is Sammy Watkins Jr. I just don’t see Briscoe succeeding playing as a cb 9 yards off LOS though.

Finally saw the Boz 30 for 30. Unlike the Marcus Dupree film, which I still think is maybe the best 30 for 30 they’ve done–compelling even for non-OU fans, and definitely “must see” for any fan, I thought this one was just ok. I was a huge Boz fan back in the day, crazy about his playing on the field, and entertained by his antics off it, still have my copy of the book, and I absolutely loved seeing all the footage of him in the day.

All shows of this type have a certain amount of self-serving rewriting of history, but this one had maybe a little bit too much, on all sides.

Fascinating to see the “hit” and realize that due to all the hype surrounding it at the time, my memory was of a much bigger truck by Bo. Seeing it now, it’s hard to imagine how completely and utterly devastating that moment was to Boz’s entire image, and any parts of his career related to it.

I’m glad he’s re-accepted by most as part of the OU family and the great OU player that he was. The concept of building the show around showing the memorabilia to his son was a good one, and all in all it was a nice retelling of his story, but I didn’t feel there was anything compelling or particularly enlightening about the presentation. ymmv…:-)
