Sooner Squad 17 (SS17) was a very hyped class for the Sooners. It featured some good talent and a lot of promise. What will be exciting is to see the development of these players during their time at OU. SS17 started out with 27 players. Although one is no longer on the team, the late additions of Dillon Faamatu and, for the purposes of this post, Jeff Badet made it 28. (Yes, I know Badet is not technically in the recruiting class).
This is our weekly look into how that class is performing and what their contributions were in the most recent game.
ss17 – game 4 played
– Jeff Badet
– Marquise Brown
– Tre Brown
– Grant Calcaterra
– Dillon Faamatau
– CeeDee Lamb
– Kenneth Murray
– Tre Norwood
– Trey Sermon
– Marcelias Sutton
10 players saw the field from SS17. That is a new season low for how many played. The contributions, however, were incredibly high. (Note: the team has several injuries keeping players out. Robert Barnes is an example of someone who would have probably played if not for injury.)
SS17 – Game 4 Stats
– Jeff Badet: 2 reception, 57 yards, 1 touchdown, 128 all purpose yards

– Marcelias Sutton: 5 carries, 3 yards
Those contributions accounted for:
– 43% of the carries
– 44% of the rushing yards
– 50% of the rushing touchdowns
– 62% of the receptions
– 54% of the receiving yards
– 33% of the receiving touchdowns
– 58% of the all purpose yards
– 15% of the total tackles
That’s a very impressive showing. Sermon preached himself one heck of a game, and was the second Sooner in a row to earn Big 12 Newcomer of the Week. It was good to see Badet score his first touchdown as a Sooner. These members of SS17 are really defining their roles on this team.
All in all, great week for SS17. As we continue into the meat of the Big 12 schedule, the roles these players have will become even more vital.
