Quick Game Thoughts

Could it have been any worse in the 1st quarter defensively? Not sure how they score 20 in the first 10 minutes and then only score 7 from there on out.
Sooners came out in a 3 man front with a nose along with Obo & Ward at the ends. Tech marched right down the field running the ball to go up 7-0.
You could tell the players were frustrated when Will Johnson got the 15 yard penalty early in the 2nd quarter. These guys know they’re talented and have to be tired of scheming so timid.
To Mike’s credit he did switch to a 4-2-5, and had a lot of success. They only hit a couple of run plays after that and the Sooners got nice pressure off of it.
It would be scary to see what Obo, Ward and Mann could do if they were turned loose all game long. I’d love to see Lampkin turned loose.
How bout the hit on the screen play by Overton? To me that’s just football. I used to live for kill shots like that. Hate the targeting rule altogether.
Even with the kneel downs the Sooners averaged 7.1 yards per carry. 47 runs vs 34 passes. Every time the Sooners run more than they pass they win.
If Baker hits Anderson on the swing pass before half it’s a TD. Won’t have a receiver more wide open all year.
Speaking of Anderson…How about 24 carries for 181 yards. That’s a days work. He’s really starting to settle in nicely. Big, Fast & Physical.
Abdul Adams seems to be rounding back into form. 10 carries for 95 yards for him too. Not sure if Sermon has been a bit nicked up, but we didn’t see him until the 4th quarter.
Love the job the O line did. I wish Riley would let them grind people more. The ball that Baker forced down the seam to Andrews and ended up picked seemed like a perfect time to run and take control of the game up two scores. This team could literally run for 400 yards a game with the o line and backs they have.
A funny note in the 3rd quarter, the Sooners are driving and a tech shoe comes off. As the o line is getting up to the ball, Orlando Brown kicked the shoe and it went flying. Love the attitude.
Baker Mayfield by the way quietly throws for 4 td’s and rushes for another. Just another ho hum day. What was weird is that he had an off night. Guy could have had 6 td’s if he’s his normal self.
This defense is gonna be the death of me. I get excited and feel good right now…start thinking of playoff scenarios etc. At the end of the day this defense will be the reason the Sooners do or don’t get into the playoffs.
