Post Practice Notes and Quotes with the Defense

Geneo Grissom and Charles Tapper

– Tapper cut his hair!

– Geneo said that OSU can put a lot of points on the board if you’re not ready. Tapper added that  “they’re a very explosive offense…you see what they did in the Baylor game…they like to control the tempo of the game”

– Geneo on turnovers, “Its pretty much statistically proven that the team with the most turnovers most likely is going to win the game so turnovers are going to be huge for us. I feel like we’re due for some more turnovers…I’ve got a gut feeling it’s going to be a real great game” (note: in the context it seemed he meant he had a gut feeling that OU is going to play well)

– On the difficulty of pass rushing OSU Geneo said they are hard to get to because they don’t do too many five step drops. They get the ball out pretty quick.

– Complimented Chelf…said that he’s been able to run the ball and throw it even better.

– Said that having all the film on OSU really helps but also said that a lot of the guys up front (Chuka, Tapper, Geneo) played against them so they have a better idea of what to expect. Said the defense has rededicated themselves to film study for this game.

Aaron Colvin

– Said that the implications of beating OSU as far bowl game, etc. don’t really matter…the fact that it’s bedlam “is all the motivation we need”

– “It’s a rivalry and we always want to win our rivalry games”

– Said that winning the turnover battle is huge. Said that the coaches have been preaching it throughout the days of practice.

– Said that the fact that they’ve already played so many games at Stillwater really helps. They know what to expect and they know it’s going to be loud because OSU is playing for the conference championship.

– Said that he feels the team is more complete than it was going into the Baylor game.

– Was asked if he has people telling him not to play because of his lingering injury. He said that he has a lot of voices in his ear but said he ignores that (sounds like some people are definitely telling him not to play). “I know what’s best for me. I know what’s best for the team”

– Said he came back this season to help this team win games and said “I’m a competitor at the end of the day and I can just sit on the sidelines and just watch something. If I don’t give it my all I’m going to have regrets and that’s one of my biggest things…I don’t want to have any regrets when I leave this university. It’s the last game…it’s a tough situation that I’m in…but at the end of the day I’ve got to leave it in God’s hands and grind through it”

– “A win…would be huge for me”

– Said that they don’t want this game to turn into a shootout. Said that their job is to go out and get stops and said they’ve done that throughout the year and the need to go out there and do it again.

– Said their offense is “hot”. Said they are just making plays right now…”their stuff is gelling for them and we know we’ll get their best shot”

– Said that Chelf is dangerous because he can pass and run…he’s been very efficient…his confidence is a lot higher.

– Said that he feels like the fans and the media make a bigger issue of the weather than the players do. Said that he can’t really fault the fans for that because they’re just standing there but for the players…as they get warmed up they just block it out and play.

– Said that we have to control the line of scrimmage…”they’re trying to get a big 12 title”

– Said they do a good job of running the ball and lulling you to sleep and then taking their shots. Said its important for OU to stay on their keys. “Got to play your keys period”

– Said that seeing all the tape helps and said that there isn’t going to be much that changes on OSU’s end because they have their bread and butter…they have what works for them…”they’re not going to change too much…they might come with a few wrinkles”

– Commented on last years winning TD by Brennan Clay…Aaron said a lot of nice things about Brennan…said that he has worked so hard all four years and now things are starting to really come together for him

– Said that he does feel a little better in terms of his injury but said he’s still struggling but said he doesn’t want to complain about it because he has to fight through it…no use in complaining about it. He was asked if it hurts all the time…said that the pain…”takes me by surprise” and said the weather doesn’t help (sounds like the pain comes and goes)

NOTE: We didn’t many guys come in today and Coach Mike wasn’t available so we apologize about that. A couple things I wanted to say. The defense seemed confident. When Geneo said he had a good feeling it definitely didn’t come off as arrogant. He came off like someone who believes in their preparation. Also, have to comment on AC and how important it is that he has chosen to play through this injury. I think one of the biggest things it does is set an example for the younger guys and that will pay dividends later because it creates a legacy of selflessness and dedication. He passes it on to Sanchez and the other young guys and they will pass that along to the guys under them. I also suspect AC will get rave reviews from the coaches when it comes to NFL scouts and that can certainly help his stock. He deserves it.

Love Colvin’s team first comments. Have you heard anything on Peterson’s availability? Suspended last game I believe, was it just that game?

I agree Alex I loved it as well. Talked to Yost earlier and he didn’t say anything about Peterson. Coach Mike wasn’t there today apparently so they probably didn’t have a chance to ask but I’ll try to remember to ask Yost tomorrow.

Just watched Mike’s presser today, ole Deano asked him about personnel to be back, then specifically ended with ‘like Peterson’
Mike’s response ‘everyone who was available for KSU will also be available this week.
        So…..a perfect Bob non-response 🙂
