Coach Jay Norvell
– Talked about how Durron had some tough days in camp and took a step back but he’s worked hard and has a great attitude and his continued preparation and practice is starting to show up on the field. He said Durron’s plays were big time for the team this past Saturday.
– Talked about how talented the Texas secondary is. “They’re talented, they can run, they’ve got speed, they can cover. They’re playing a lot of man coverage so there’s gonna be a lot of opportunity for big plays.” He talked about how the receivers have to separate; something the receivers didn’t do as well as they would have liked against TCU.
– Talked about the need for more consistency and the ability to put a complete offensive game together; pass and run.
Durron Neal
– Talked about how things didn’t go well in the early part of camp but he stuck with it. When he was asked about the turning point for him Durron said “I always envision myself making big plays.” It sounds like seeing the other guys contribute (Sterling, Lacoltan, etc.) helped inspire him.
Coach Heupel
– On Texas defense “Similar to what they’ve always been. Big and athletic up front. The backers doing a good job of running in space. Secondary is long and athletic as well.”
– On changes to the defense under new Texas DC, Greg Robinson, “They’re making you earn things more in the run game.” Also said they haven’t blitzed as much and they’re more gap sound. He said they will be paying attention to Coach Robinsons history in order to really prepare for everything they might see but with Texas having a couple of extra days they still expect some new wrinkles.
– On Trey Millard, “A lot people don’t understand how productive he is as a player when the ball is not in his hands. He is a huge part of what we are doing offensively. Does a great job of blocking on the edges. He’s good up the middle as well. He catches the ball extremely well out of the backfield too so he’s a real threat there as well.”
– Coach Heupel was asked about whether Blake holding on to the ball in the TCU game was on him or on the receivers. Coach Heupel said its everyone. He said Blake missed some shots down the field that he’s got to hit in order to back a competitive secondary up. But he also talked about how the WRs need to win more 1 on 1s. And he said that sometimes it was just the protection breaking down.

Good to see Durron coming back! Hopefully he has another solid game against texas…
Yeah, he was a guy and still is someone I was very excited about coming out of St. Louis when we signed him. He’s very explosive with the ball in his hands. Once he settles down and lets the game come to him, he’ll be someone making highlight reels with regularity.
I agree! I was very impressed with the fact that he was on the field as a true freshman last year. That’s why I was a bit surprised that he didn’t have a bigger role this year. Seems like he has gotten his priorities straight and hopefully he keeps working hard and plays up to his potential. Him and Shepard are going to be an awesome duo once Saunders leaves…
