Good morning and Boomer! Check out this pic I found of Piper Perabo sporting the Sooner shirt.

This is going to be my first season as an avid reader of TFB. I am almost as excited to see what kind of content you guys have for the season, as I am the actual season!

    Dang Ross got some guns

  • Zack says:

I think Neal will be great in this offense. I don’t like the way he was used in heupels offense.

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

I do too, he is a catch and run guy. Riley will utilize him in the screen game where he is most effective.

      • D Hunter Sanchez says:

The question is, has he learned to catch first, then run? I prefer Mead or Andrews to get more reps which will allow OU to present not only speed/quickness (Shep&Dede) match up problems, but also size match up problems.

There also happens to be a post about it on TFB from last night.

      • ouwooferman says:

Sorry if this post offended you. Not everyone goes back in time to look at last night. But then again, I dont even look at the computer, phone etc as soon as i get home. Much better things to do. Thanks For Playing and Have a great day.

        • Brad Warren says:

How dare you post a depth chart! Lol.

        • Eric Hoffpauir says:

It didn’t offend me at all. I was just pointing it out in case people wanted to catch up on all the discussion under that post, including Jordan’s comments. It’s not hard to find – it’s the one underneath this post on the front page.

          • cpearc00 says:

Apparently he just blindly clicks on the top-most post without having the ability to move his eyes an inch (or less) down the screen. Pretty terrible field of vision if you ask me.

          • ouwooferman says:

Blindly, moves eyes, terrible field of vision. Actually, not bad for an law grad. But facts be known, Woke up read the DOK and saw the Depth chart and posted same. Sorry if repeat postings offend. Did not realize trying to share might receive so much attention for the effort. Peace.

        • BigJoeBrown says:

Geezzz relax and may want to cut back the coffee. I am sure all Eric was insinuating was TFB has a post about it and there was some great discussion.

  • Soonerbred says:

    Found this interesting:

ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reports that Saints are trading WR/return specialist Jalen Saunders to the Patriots for a conditional draft pick, via a league source. Patriots got an extended look at Saunders in August’s joint practices.

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

Good for Jalen. if the Pats think he is worth a trade then they may have some plans for him already

      • Walter Sobcek says:

I don’t like the Pats, but they don’t seem to make mistakes on personnel issues. Good omen for JS.

    • CS says:

Thinking this could be a golden chance for Jalen. With Edelman nursing an injury, Saunders with couple of big ones can get the job for good. But, still very hard to support the deflategaters!!

    • Indy_sooner says:

      Yessir …we’ll take him

    • Nate Broadus says:

I can’t smile any wider. I have no love for the Patriots, but I have love for the Sooners and Jalen will always be a Sooner to me.

  • Defend Colfax says:

I like Alvarez and his attitude. Probably the most unheralded recruit from his class(2*), comes in not to just compete but to be the best. Kid played tackle in HS comes to OU to play guard and decides he gonna take the time to learn at center. That’s how you get on the field. You gotta love that.

    • EasTex says:

He was recruited as a center, thought that was his position in high school, as well.
He was also academic all-state his senior year.

  • EasTex says:

The situation with Lampkin is bizarre. Since the Texsa admissions department has not produced a document accepting or denying his admission, which the ncaa claims it must have, the question as to why not becomes important.
Does the admission department violate its own rules for the athletic department? If so, then they could have admitted Lampkin without the language requirement.
The dates for registration/late registration have long passed, with the last day for adds/drops approaching. Should Texsa continue to deny Lampkin documentation as to his admission status, I would encourage the Lampkin family to seek legal action.

    • Rick says:

ET I don’t know if you remember, but about a week or two ago I read a story quoting Ms. Lampkin stating something to the effect of, that with her interaction with the NCAA regarding the NLI rules that Ut had until start of classes to deny, then they were in violation of NCAA rules. What’s up with that, why hasn’t someone forced their hand? Is it just a part of the process?

      • EasTex says:

From what had been posted from copy/paste of ncaa rules the LOI was to be considered null and void if he was denied admission. The ncaa says they must have documentation, which Texswa admissions is withholding for reasons known only to them. It is very revealing, I think, that the Texsa departments would be in collusion to deny this young man the documentation he needs to move forward.
Texsa should be forced to show cause for violating its own rules of admission.

    • MoJoOkie says:

I agree. The school is harming Lampkin from an opportunity standpoint. So there is reasonable cause for civil action.

      • Jed says:

I am not an attorney, but was trained as one. I’m thinking that they can play this out until the absolute last day by which, even theoretically, a person could be squeezed in. At that time, they will owe him an answer. Probably best to get an attorney to draft a letter, to be sent certified, return receipt, to the admissions office, demanding a response after that date.
This is the kind of scenario I envisioned when I said, earlier, that Charlie could likely cost Lampkin the early fall, one way or the other.
It’s not pretty, nor is it in any way in the best interest of their athletes, but UT is fully within their rights to play the game this way.

        • Rick says:

My understanding is that the last day is….the first day of classes. Am I wrong?

          • EasTex says:

No, there is late registration, but it was the following Thursday from the first day of class. The last day for adds/drops is next week, IIRC.

          • Jed says:

And, I’m thinking that, for these purposes, you could make an argument that someone could still be inserted then…so the decision to deny him is not ‘final’ until that time as well.
My grandfather once sat me down and gave me some good advice. I was upset over some perceived injustice suffered at the hands of some evil doer. He explained to me that the bad person was, indeed, a bad person; but that I could have foreseen such action on their part and could have kept myself safe from their action with a little extra work. Basically, don’t blame an asshole for being an asshole. You knew what they were going into the thing and if you did nothing to protect yourself, shame on you.
If Lampkin ends up having to red shirt this fall, well, it’s a small price to pay for being out of UT.

          • EasTex says:

He was probably going to be a RS anyway and I’m certain this will be resolved.
The positives are the revelation of how the Texsa admissions department is subordinate to TexsaSports and what a total anal sphincter Strong is when things don’t go his way.

          • Jed says:

You seem more plugged into Texas HS ball than most. Do this and Briles’ shenanigans really have no impact on the HS coaches in Texas?

          • EasTex says:

I think Briles’ issues are too recent to determine any effect on the THSCA, but I’m certain it will raise concerns with recruit’s parents.
Strong got off to a bad start with the THSCA. His hiring of legendary and well respected high school coach Jeff Traylor is, I believe, an attempt to give him some credibility with the THSCA.

          • Fear The Magic says:

Texas needs a good dose of negative publicity over this. Once that starts we’d see just how fast their admissions department could suddenly move their burnt orange asses.

          • Rick says:

You should trademark that phrase BOA, like some hiphop dude. (BurntOrangeAsses)

          • Jed says:

I can see that being a great name for an ironic punk band: The Burnt Orange Asses.
Very ’80’s Alt/New Wave-y sort of thing. Inside reference to The Ass Festival and Neil Young.

          • Eric Hoffpauir says:

He probably would have redshirted anyway.

          • Bob Edwards says:

            per http://www.nationalletter.org/nliProvisions/nullAndVoid.html

This NLI shall be declared null and void if any of the following occur:

” by the opening day of classes in fall 2015, has failed to provide me with written notice of admission”

          • EasTex says:

And yet, their Coach says he won’t release him and the admissions department dutifully complies by not producing documentation.
Were it me I would be lawyering up and tapping the PUF* they are so proud of.
            /*permanent university fund

          • Sooner 4Ever says:

Based on this language, Lampkin does not need a denial letter. If he has not received a written notice of admission, which clearly they have not sent him since he failed to meet their standards, then he is already free of his NLOI.

        • MoJoOkie says:

Yeah, from limited study (see Bob’s posts) I assumed the notification date has passed.

      • RocketCitySooner says:

It’s been apparent for some time that UT has major ethical issues. There have been reports of favoritism in admissions. Attempts by the good old boy network to impeach members of the board of regents who were investigating. Then there was Mack Brown who ran his own good old boy network. Why is this surprising? Texas thinks they’re so above the limits on lesser institutions. It makes me wonder why some are so adamant about staying in the same conference with them.

    • Walter Sobcek says:

I made the same comment about a week ago. Since then, I rang up a buddy of mine (a UT grad – weird, i know) and he says the admissions department is not immediately required to send a denial of admission letter, and they can theoretically “hold” a spot indefinitely until he satisfies his language requirements. That’s his take – not sure if it’s certain. As to your point of possible collusion between athletic and admissions departments, that would seem a rather serious breach of ethics if they discussed ways to prevent Lampkin from being eligible at OU.

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

Yeah, I don’t understand it but Texas is trying to prove a point here and I think they fight this to the bitter end.

    • Brad Warren says:

As if we needed another reason to hate texsa.

    • SamSooner says:

What responsible adult would play with a young man’s future this way?

    • Jed says:

buying it and having a ‘tailgate’ in the post op rehab where my dad’s presently an inmate.

      • J J says:

Solid answer! Coming from A physical therapy wardens in post op rehab! Did the same (no ppv though) with my dad for Ou/wvu in ’12. The nurses swore they’d never seen so many docs on a Saturday in cardiac rehab.

        • Jed says:

My dad just got his right leg amputated, so we’re waiting for the wound to close and to get his PT/OT to where he can go home. So it’s a fairly jolly group of people; they all just happen to have massive healing wounds.

          • J J says:

definitely though a blessing to have something to take their minds of the wounds/IV antibiotics & all the fun stuff that goes with it. Its definitely something others don’t really comprehend until you are in that boat.

          • Jed says:

If you haven’t worked with one, yet, check out wound vacs. Miraculous tool.

          • J J says:

Oh I have 2 patients right now on wound vacs. They are wonderful. Heal wounds so much faster & saves skin integrity around the area…

The OU Club of Tulsa will be showing the PPV game at the FOX & The Hound located on the NE corner of 71st & Garnett. I don’t know if anybody can just show up and watch it though. I saw it mentioned on here last week. I just joined the OU Club of Tulsa today online ($25 family membership for 1 year). I will be going to the Fox & The Hound to watch the game. The $25 is cheaper than buying the game, the money supports the university and you get to be involved in other activities the Club host throughout the year. Win/Win…..

      • KJ1123 says:

Haha not a whole lot since it’s game week. Heard a little bit about Akron as the team started preparation Sunday. Hearing they have decent size up front on defense and they run some unconventional defensive formations. Also heard that before the team looked at Akron, they watched a little bit on Tenn. I think it’ll be a good week of preparation, Sat should be fun.

    Fascinating!
A movie with no advertising and only appearing in 1,000 theaters this past weekend finished second in box office sales at $11,000,000 and it only cost $3,000,000 to make.
    http://www.aleteia.org/en/arts-entertainment/article/hollywood-insiders-express-shock-as-christian-film-opens-second-at-the-box-office-5831387881930752

    • Rick says:

As a Christian, I am happy to see a quality film that truly uplifts people. Being good intentioned, but “preachy” at times, we at times put some folks off. My opinion for my faith is some what like my opinion on great college football, keep it simple, stick to the basics, stick to what you personally know for sure, and stick to what makes you successful.

      • EasTex says:

I’m very comfortable with being a Christian and I know personally the power of prayer. It isn’t that I “believe” it is that I “know.”
Always gratifying to see a movie come along that Christians can enjoy.

      • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

Thanks for this, Rick. I’m not much of a moviegoer, but if you’d like some quality reads with a more robust, yet subtle, theological nucleus than what you’d typically find on the shelves at LifeWay or Mardel, I’m your guy. I’m talking fiction, not commentaries. Though I have a library of those, too.

        • Rick says:

I will probably need to get with you somehow soon then. I’m out of town most of the time, but when I get back, I’ll get you my contact info. Thanks

    • jimintexas says:

Wife and I went with some friends and saw it this weekend.

    • Rick says:

I was amazed looking at the rotten tomatoes rating on it, the critics were all over the place with a 25%, the viewers were at a 91% rating with 5299 reviews. Kinda telling.

    • Jed says:

Not being a church goer, I wouldn’t know; but was it really unadvertised or just not in mass media?
In any event, pretty strong circumstantial evidence to support the census data that this is an overwhelmingly Christian nation.

      • Rick says:

What commonly happens is during the service, the person in charge of making announcement will say something like, “and by the way we will be taking the youth to a film at (fill in the blank), anyone wishing may join us”. That is usually the extent of the major advertising for the films. A movie about Moses was released earlier, I think Christian Bale was the star. I went to the film and, because of my faith, was personally disappointed with the movie, because of the literary license that the film makers took with the biblical story. Yes, it was about Moses, but sadly no, it was not a representation of the biblical account. It was entertaining, had a little romance and action, but not biblically factual.

        • Jed says:

Kind of what I thought. Thanks.
(and thanks for the concept of Christian Bale in a Christian movie. That’s high comedy, right there!)

    • paganpink says:

Not the coaches evidently. At least not the way he’s playing now.

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

Pretty sure the coaches just told him to start putting in some real effort or focus on his classwork

      • Jason Vos says:

yup because it was obvious he was the best receiver on the team after Shep last year. Whatever is causing him to fall in depth is not on the field related imo

        • Bob Edwards says:

That may be the issues. He was #2 but the change in OC plus Westbrook and others coming in has pushed him back some. You often see players get discouraged in situations like that and drop further. Sometimes they need a slap in the face to get it going again.

The good new is the coaches don’t usually send messages to players they don’t think are capable.

        • Soonerfandave84 says:

Yep it certainly gives the appearance that he thought his role was cemented and he wasn’t working for it.

        • Daryl says:

Though I was told he had at least two camp sessions where he dropped SEVERAL passes. I also heard that it took teammates to get him to stay and work late after practice on catching. Now that may a strong way of stating it, but if teammates have to come to you and say hey stay late and lets catch a some footballs you may not have a great work ethic.

    • Fear The Magic says:

Quick has a ton of talent but I have to say that the way he runs while holding the ball like a loaf of bread away from his body scares the hell out of me. He might get away with that in high school but at this level hes a fumble waiting to happen.

    • Boom says:

Quick ability on the field is jaw dropping. However, he’s not disciplined in his running and getting up the field. I say this not as a knock on his ability but more about what Gundy preached at the RB position. Gundy wanted them going north/south. Wasn’t into all the fancy dances. Other than TFB, I don’t have any other practice info so this is only a guess on my part. Quick is a great athlete, just needs to find his position and go after it both mentally & physically.

      • Walter Sobcek says:

Also, In LR’s system, he likes the pass to be thrown to a location, expecting the receiver to make a well-timed break on the ball. Undisciplined routes might not work so well in that scenario.

  • Bob Edwards says:

So no Open Post? It’s like being a junkie and not being able to find your dealer.

  • Matt says:

    I read an
interview today where Bobby Stoops talked about why he won’t leave Oklahoma for
greener pastures elsewhere and his reasoning was basically comfort for him and
his family (which is totally understandable.) He mentioned having been with 1 university
president for 17 years and how his family was invested in Norman and that he
didn’t want to move them. It sounds to me that it really could just be some
complacency having crept in and Bob becoming more lax on where his program was
going because he thought he had the right assistants in place and a
stranglehold on the conference. Maybe last season was exactly what he needed to
get him fully back in the game. I’m
hoping he still has ‘it’ and was just too lazy the past few years. Hopefully he
can turn it all around starting this year!

    • MoJoOkie says:

Sometimes familiarity breeds contempt, and sometimes it nurtures commitment. Generally depends on individual character, and it is my opinion that Bob has lots of that. JMHO

    • Bob Edwards says:

I think Bob’s biggest problem was that he let his loyalty overrode his obligations to his employer. He tried to help friends out by giving them jobs. That is great, but you aren’t really helping them much giving them a job they can’t do. He also held on to some like Shipp after they weren’t getting the job done. He seems to have learned his lesson, though Mike may be the exception to that.

      • metzker says:

Lets see how Mike does this year thennnnnn—————

        • Bob Edwards says:

Nah, I am willing to give Mike a shot. On paper he is not a bad hire. He was a really good DC at one time. But the clock is running since he is now in year three. Had some time to get his guys here. Need to see some results soon.

      • Matt says:

Agreed. For the most part. The whole Kittle hire? Total friend hire…thats something I see in the Oil & Gas industry all the time..don’t really see how that could work at a major college football program though. But I think the last coach that was kept too long was Bobby Jack Wright..never really thought he did a job with any of the positions he coached. I do want to see what Mike can do this year before I give up on him though.

        • MoJoOkie says:

Could be right about BJW. As I recall, everyone was of the opinion that Bob picked him up to recruit and his relationship with the high school coaches down in Texas. In that respect, I think he was adequate. Didn’t he find Q? At any rate, that was purported to have been his forte, not coaching.

    • Jed says:

I’m thinking that the slow racheting of physical pain prior to his hip surgery had something to do with it, as well. Combination of pain and the medication for it can really take the pep out of your step.

      • EasTex says:

I concur. He seems much more energetic and focused since the surgery. Even when he was still on crutches and going through rehab he seemed more like his old self.
Looking at some of the replays from last season it was obvious the way he was walking that he was in pain.

        • Boom says:

I agree but I also think the house project took his time too. This hasn’t been mentioned but I’ve been a part of working with a builder for custom home. This takes a lot of time to make sure you get it right and by no mean was it anything like Bob’s. I realize his wife was a big part but there are areas I’m sure he had his hands all over. Lot’s of time and meeting with the builder. My $.02.

          • Jed says:

I’m sure it did. And his business interests. And just life in general. Sometimes things just tail off and, if you’re lucky, it takes a jolt to get you out of your rut.
I had a friend in Japan who was a professional potter. Sold his stuff to collectors for tea ceremony use. Made waaaaaaaay more money than me. He had a neat ritual of switching out the really silky clay he normally used for very rough stuff with lots of sand in it. He did this every couple of months because it sanded the callouses off of his fingers. He said it let him feel the clay again.
Maybe last year for Bob was kind of like having his callouses sanded off. I kind of hope so.

I see where the last three 247 predictions for Eboh are to Texas. Any chance OU thinks they are getting Parker and told Eboh they are full?

There were a few of you that saw a post a few days ago about a New England flair “Soonahs” shirt. So I thought I would post the link to those shirts, and just so you know the proceeds go to an OU scholarship fund for students in the NE area that want to go to OU. I ordered my shirt yesterday!

    • BleedCrimson says:

Thanks Daryl, was hoping to hear more on it. Love the fact that I can help support another kid getting to OU.

    • Walter Sobcek says:

Boomah Soonah would also work in New Jersey. Except you would need to add a profanity at the end. (You can guess which one.) I also like “Boomer Sooner, dude” for us CA based fans, and “Boomer Sooner, oh yeah, eh?” for our friends in Minnesota and Wisconsn.

    • Shelby is a Patriot says:

That’s awesome. I’m getting some for sure.

  • Brandon Hargraves says:

So does anyone know of a place in the DFW area that will be showing the OU game this weekend? Stupid PPV

    • BleedCrimson says:

There was a post further down in collin county. I believe he said that is north of Dallas.

  • BoomerDave says:

Super K and Andrew are saying on the Texas TFB that they now think that Eboh is Texas-bound.

    • SamSooner says:

This whole thing about getting with a kid early does not always hold water. Everyone was clamoring for OU to offer Draper. OU was still evaluating him. We are in on Eboh early. He was about to commit and texsa offers and it, apparently, changes everything. It doesn’t always matter. As our friend, EasTex, always says, when it comes to “cruitin'” it’s hard to figure out.
