ICYMI, re: the report from this weekend about OU possibly having a black alternate uniform this season.

2015 OU Fall Camp Preview (TW)

I’m not sure this could be more wrong.

Nothing in here you shouldn’t already be aware of, but on the off-chance it comes to your attention today and you think otherwise.

Whoops.

I can’t wait for the season to start. The wait is really starting to get to me! Lots to be excited about for this year’s team

  • Jeremy Phillips says:

Offensive line is a question mark.. However, like the article points out.. We have 2 starters returning & 2 others who’ve played a lot.. That’s not nearly the question mark that QB is…

    • cdzendolet says:

Also, Bedenbaugh has proven to be a heck of an OL coach, and I have trust that he will keep the OL humming along at a high pace.

    • Stephen Dale says:

its not the number of returning starters ; it the QUALITY of those starters, their leadership, focus, and desire throughout the season. Can they –or the OU team- handle adversity and overcome it ? that leadership didn’t appear in 2014 and the team faltered badly ; a new season and , hopefully, a better one in 2015……

      • Jeremy Phillips says:

Offensive line wasn’t the problem last year.. QB & secondary play..

        • Soonerfandave84 says:

with 2 new starters at OT, it could be this year. They have talented guys in the waiting in the wings but they have to go out and actually do it on the field. I think they will but an extra sack or two a game esp on a critical third down might be the difference in a W or L

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

It always is the difference. I think being young and inexperienced is something that cannot be used as an excuse. Either you can play and get the job done, or you can’t and then, next man up. After what Ohio State did with 2nd and 3rd string QBS last year, no other FBS team ought to have excuses.

          • Soonerfandave84 says:

learning how to block in live action is a process for most, not a lot of Tony Boselli and Orlando Pace’s around

          • Eric Hoffpauir says:

Yes, and block as a unit. One guy doesn’t understand his assignment, it can blow the whole play.

          • Soonerfandave84 says:

Yep especially if they don’t react to the blitz

          • Stephen Dale says:

that’s the problem with having to face a good team like Tennessee in game #2 …it generally takes a rebuilt OL a few games to gel…. OU doesn’t have that luxury this year……

          • Stephen Dale says:

            agreed.

  • MrBigsby says:

It’s a Hoover article, what did you expect? I don’t think you should even link his articles and give him clicks.

  • MoJoOkie says:

Just so you all know I’ll stand up and take my whippin’; Correia didn’t put up as much of a fight as I anticipated. I didn’t say she would beat Rousey, only that she would put up a fight. I stand corrected.

  • MrBigsby says:

Why does Chip Brown think OU and OSU could bolt for the SEC? Does he not realize that the SEC does NOT want OSU?

    • SoonerfanTU says:

How do you know what the SEC wants?

If OU suddenly decided to join, who else would the SEC get to stay “even”?

      • brainpimp says:

Because the SEC has traditionally only wanted 1 team per state in any expansion.

      • MrBigsby says:

It’s been widely reported that OU has a standing offer to join the SEC, but without OSU. The SEC realizes that OSU brings nothing to the table. They won’t expand and bring “little brothers” along. They can get the OK market with just OU, bringing OSU would just dilute it. They would rather have KU to get the KC market and improve their Basketball. There’s also been reports that the SEC would take OU and OU only and there’s no reason they have to stay “even”.

      • j l says:

The SEC has already turned down OSU once before.

If we went, 2nd team would be va tech or UNC.

  • Jason Vos says:

Ronda would lose to Cyborg though. Only woman that would beat Rousey

    • lovethemsooners says:

No chance. Rowdy would make quick work of her too.

    • Jeremy Phillips says:

I thought that as well until Saturday.. Rhonda showed me some power i didn’t think she had.. I think she would take Cyborg.. Especially if it goes into a 2nd or 3rd round…

    • Shelby is a Patriot says:

Depends on what weight each of them are fighting at. Cyborg at 135 (if that’s even possible for her) would definitely lose, though.

  • 47 Straight OU Know says:

As always, It’s a great day to be a SOONER!!!!!!!!!

  • Brad Warren says:

Had no idea DeBerry had shoulder surgery in spring. Also that McGinnis had a back injury from lifting and is pretty bad out of shape. Probably neither is sky is falling but just didn’t know until seeing it in Oklahoman this morning.

    • Jeremy Phillips says:

Don’t think it is bad out of shape.. Think he gained too much weight, lifting.. His frame may not be holding it well..

      • Brad Warren says:

That’s not what article said. He has gained weight, not good weight because h3 hasn5 been able to work out as a result of lifting injury.

  • turn2 says:

Don’t fully agree with Hoover but OLine could play a role in the success of our QB. I know TFB is breaking down positions. Wonder if JY could break down the OLine for us:

Line will be smaller, but will it be more athletic?
If more athletic, will this suit air raid better?
Is Bedenbaugh as good a coach as he is recruiter?

  • BoomerDave says:

I can’t stand Hoover, but this time he is spot on. You can’t deny the facts. Our OL is completely unproven and while I have faith in Coach B, it will be tested early against Akron and Tennessee. It will not have much time to season and gel. The rest of the offensive pieces are in place. (Yes, I believe that one or more of our QB’s will be serviceable in LR’s system). But none of that matters if our OLine play is sub-par.

    • John Garner says:

I don’t know about Akron being a test, but Tennessee for sure.

      • BoomerDave says:

Akron’s D-Line is rated very highly. Has several tOSU transfers starting. Several projected draft picks.

        • Boom says:

Good to know as I wasn’t aware. Thanks

        • John Garner says:

Really? Then I stand corrected. Akron will be a test. And that could be a good thing. Could get our kids up to speed for Tennessee.

  • Chris White says:

That picture of the A&M score reminds me of going to that game when I was younger and seeing how crazy cool the Zone read looked (that’s basically all we ran with Paul Thompson in the second half and they still couldn’t stop us)

  • Walter Sobcek says:

Naturally when replacing three good starters in the OL there is reason for concern. However, the guys stepping up have had solid experience and will be ready to go. Don’t think the line will be as dominant as last year, but should still be pretty good.

  • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

I hate August. That is all.

  • Sooner_Ace says:

  • Daryl says:

TFB crew I just want to continue to tell you guys thank you. You all have lives and families and somehow find time to supply our hourly dose of inside info on The Sooners. Also from what I can tell, you guys are not going to retire early from this FREE site.

The past week or two have been especially fast and furious and you guys have done an amazing job of keeping up with all of it. Thanks a ton guys!

    Looking forward to 2oolander.

My daughter is 13 and loves acting. She just finished her 15th stage production, mostly here in Florida, and was recently cast for her first “straight” show role in “I Never Saw Another Butterfly” which is a show about kids in a German concentration camp during WWII.

Anyway, every summer she goes to French Woods, which is an acting camp in the Catskills. This year at camp she was cast as Grace Farrell in Annie, opposite Ben Stiller’s daughter Ella, who played Annie.

Ben was there for opening night, sitting a couple rows in front of us with his wife, his son and his mother in law. He seemed like a really nice guy, but I didn’t meet him.

His wife, Christine Taylor, her mother and I spent a lot of time together because Ella and my daughter became pretty close friends. (They are still texting and planning to get together.)

I have to say that I was unbelievable impressed with Christine Taylor. She was so humble and so well-grounded…just a really good, “regular” person (as was her mother). I’m big fans of the Stillers now, as they seem to be great people.

    Looking forward to 2oolander.

  • KJ1123 says:

As predicted Ronda smashed that girl. Everyone is talking up Cyborg, she got nothing on Ronda, it’ll be another win for Ronda and another payday for the loser.

    • j l says:

Have you seen cyborg fight? That chick is a destroyer. Shes throttled some very talented fighters at 145.

Im a rousey fan, but make no doubt about it, thats a seriously interesting matchup if cyborg can cut to ’35 and still has her power. .

      • KJ1123 says:

Yeah I’ve seen her fight, alot. Cyborg would probably cut to 135 but she doesn’t carry that weight naturally, come fight time she’ll be back up to 145 or more and be sluggish for the fight. Cyborg can destroy women who stand there and want to exchange, Ronda isn’t going to do that. Her power doesn’t mean anything if there’s nothing there to hit. She’ll have to try to pin Ronda on the cage and do some work there. Cyborg now isn’t the Cyborg a few years back, shes slower and getting older. Ronda is still peaking.

        • j l says:

Cyborg walks around at 170-175, ronda around 150-155. If cyborg’s cut is done right, she will be 160+ come fight night. Thats a pretty big weight disparity.
Rousey’s best bet in that fight might be to try and move a lot(as you alluded to), tire her out and go for a later finish. Cyborg would probably have some stamina issues cutting that much, make her go to the championship rounds.
Correia was a 17-1 underdog, im thinking cyborg would be less than 2-1, if not close to even money.

If nothing else, at least there would be some intrigue in that one.

          • KJ1123 says:

Yeah exactly, I think the stamina is a big issue for Cyborg just because of the weight issue. Just going off of some of Cyborgs recent fights, she looks so much slower than when she was at Strikeforce and not as crisp. It would be good to finally get them together and settle it (because there is just nobody else out there) but I think Ronda ultimately ends up submitting her.

          • j l says:

Ive only seen her fight once in invicta, and she still looked pretty good to me, but then again, none of those women are really on her level.

My biggest worry is ronda has been charging full steam ahead to start her last few fights, and i think that could lead to her getting clipped early on, which is the only way i see cyborg winning.

I dont think she takes cyborg to the ground unless cyborg is completely gassed, shes a black belt too(though rousey’s technique is much better), because she would probably be the only fighter shes faced thats stronger than her.

Im thinking 4th round TKO on the fence after cyborg is exhausted, similar to how barao just got finished.

          • KJ1123 says:

I dont think it will get that deep into the fight. They both aren’t defensive fighters so it should be a crazy 1 or 2 rounds if it goes that far. I think Rondas been trying to show how well rounded she’s become, but Cat charged her (bad idea) and ended up in that armbar. I think Ronda will be able to throw Cyborg, Jiu Jitsu players don’t have the stand up Judo palyers do, but they have awesome ground game. But the real question is when is it going to happen, I’m thinking Dana will push for it to happen around Super Bowl.

          • j l says:

Ronda is smart though. I think she spends the 1st 3 rounds on her bike, picking cyborg apart, clinches occasionally to tire her out. She COULD come out and just slug it out to prove a point, like she did with correia, but i dont know that she should, or will.

Cyborg has literally never been on her back, so she has at least some decent defensive wrestling. Dunno if its good enough to stop rousey though.

Its gonna be a big one for sure. It could headline a big PPV easy, or it might be a double header with aldo/conor for a HUGE fight card.

Im excited to see how it plays out.

            Tate-rousey 3 = zzzz lol.

          • KJ1123 says:

No kidding… WHY MIESHA WHY….enough already woman.

          • j l says:

Shes tough as nails, but ya, just no realistic chance there.

          • Stephen Dale says:

we may it is a dull lull between football and spring football when the main subject of discussion is women’s fighting ….goodness ! and, yes, Rhonda is very attractive…women’s MMA action ?

          • j l says:

Even during football season some of us will be talking about it. Not limited to just 1 sport you can watch lol.
