Nice article on Orlando Brown. I hope he keeps improving and becomes a monster at LT.

  • Sooner Ray says:

Sounds like the light came on for Thomas…hope it translates on the field.

  • thebigdroot says:

I didn’t see anything about this last year, does anybody know anything else about it? I’ve never heard of BS doing this before to a HS coach.

    • SoonerOracle737 says:

      Sure doesn’t sound like Stoops.

    • ND52 says:

Very interesting article to say the least……….

      • SamSooner says:

I don’t get it. Help me understand.

      • Soonerfandave84 says:

an AA-S writer trying to pick on Bob Stoops…color me surprised

      • soonerthunder says:

Just like OU fans here and everywhere over exaggerate things about Mack Brown, etc., these coaches probably did the same thing. He might have touched him somehow, but not like they want to joke about it. Stoops likes to leave athletes on good terms, b/c sometimes these athletes turn around and want to go to OU (DGBIII, Lampkin, etc.).

      • ToatsMcGoats says:

I take it that the article is referring to Cody Ford? Not sure why Stoops would be so upset as to push a guy out of the way…I would call b.s. (not Bob Stoops…although, if you have his number, I’d love to give him a ring).

    • John Garner says:

This is a bullshit story. Not unexpected from a shorthorn website, especially one from 247. Bob Stoops. for one, isn’t a jerk. And two, he’s too smart to alienate any HS coach.

    • paganpink says:

That’s a short confusing story that leaves more questions then it answers. I’m sure Stoop’s memory of what happened is radically different. I don’t see why he was trying to give his information to Stoops if he WASN’T considering OU so why would he mention other schools and not Oklahoma when asked?

    • Walter Sobcek says:

THat would be very out of character behavior for Stoops. I would call BS on that one as well.

      • Brad Warren says:

Right. It’s fact that Strong has alienated several Texas HS coaches. Thus, IMO, this is just a deflectory piece of fiction.

    • Brad Warren says:

Saw that this morning. I agree ?with John Garner.

    • L'Carpetron Dookmarriot says:

I know for an absolute fact that I don’t know if this story is true.

I also know for an absolute fact that I don’t care if it’s true.

    • Jordan Esco says:

Saw that yesterday as well. Sounds like a major crock of you know what, IMO.

      • thebigdroot says:

That’s what I thought. If this had happened this way, why are we just now hearing about it? Wouldn’t it be used as a negative in recruiting against OU.

        • Oscar says:

Exactly. Something like this is so fabricated because it is an obviously contradictory behavior pattern to the year-after-year consistent behavior of a class act, Coach Bob Stoops.

    • Bob Edwards says:

Let’s see a Texas site relaying a story about a Texas player from Texas and they said something bad about Oklahoma. No bias there. I think after sixteen years here we would have heard more of this kind of stuff about Stoops if that were his way of operating. Given the source I think I will pass until I hear something from another source.

      • thebigdroot says:

What’s weird is I found it linked on the Tulsa World site.

      • Ed Cotter says:

Apparently he wasn’t even considering OU, so why was did this coach even go up to Stoops? And if he did push this guy in front of other college coaches, we would have heard something about it, as it could have negatively affected OU recruiting. Longhorn site, nuff said.

        • OUWade says:

yeah exactly. “push” could be a relative word in this story. I do believe Stoops is arrogant sometimes, but unless he was walking somewhere and this guy came up to him and kind of blocked him in so that he could share info about a player that wasn’t even considering OU, then I doubt it was anything more than a pat on the chest as Stoops walked away. But, it is good to know that the only reason we beat Texas was because we were recruiting players who Texas overlooked. To think that I thought it was because we were just better. Shows what I know.

          • Malicong says:

If Texas was overlooking players like AD, Tommie Harris, Brandon Everage, Derrick Strait, etc then Mack stayed around 10 years to long.

          • OUWade says:

I think Texas actually did overlook Derrick Strait. He was from Austin and I don’t think they even offered. But yeah, I get your point. This was just their way of saying that “OU didn’t beat us. We beat ourselves,” to make them feel better about a couple bad beatdowns.

          • Brad Warren says:

You are 100% correct. They didn’t even offer Strait.

    • metzker says:

      stoopsed that funny

    • Daryl says:

Hey coach Stoops I k ow your at a conference and you evaluate talent year around but I have a kid you should really look at. He was committed to Louisville where coach Strong coach strong leaves goes to Texas and he is now considering Oregon, and Texas where Charlie Strong took a job. So can I have 10 minutes of your time. The coach dosen’t even say this is a kid who is I tereted if you would contact him. This coach who wanted his 5min of fame and to tell all his buddies hey Stoops was asking about one of “my guys” and got pissed because it didn’t workout in my opinion.

  • John Garner says:

Nice piece about the uncanny connection between Tinker and Baker. Thanx!

  • Walter Sobcek says:

Got a kick out of the CBS panel of “experts.” Especially Dennis Dodd. Anyone who cites last season as the sole criteria for this season’s prognostication is no expert.

    • John Garner says:

If they haven’t balled, they’re no expert.

    • OUhound says:

Dodd has proven time and time again that he is no OU fan.

      • Walter Sobcek says:

Wouldn’t care if he dogged OU based on a real analysis. But just citing last year’s record and a misrepresentative defensive stat is lazy and unprofessional. Hack.

        • Daryl says:

Is that why all the experts love Auburn who I believe won 7 games last year and now is a top 10 team? Totally agree with you. You have to look at last year but you have to at it closely.

  • OUhound says:

Curious if TFB has anything new on Lampkin. That coach of “the team that shall not be named” is going to let him loose from the LOI or not? And why all the drama from him?

    • John Garner says:

Apparently OU is proceeding as if Lampkin has cleared his LOI issues. Or so it seems from the practice reports I’ve read.

      • OUhound says:

Yeah, I read that on DOK, as well as that bone head down south has not yet made a final decision. That’s just cold…no class.

        • Daryl says:

Ya but according to all the texas boards and my whole family who are horn fans they are all screaming tampering. They all believe that OU did something and Lampkin failed on purpose to get out of LOI and come to OU. If they really believe that then I understand them fighting it but seems like they have drug their feet rather than fight it.

          • OUhound says:

So just say no and get it over with. This dragging it out is just wrong.

          • Gladdman says:

James Hale was at our OU Club of Tulsa meeting last and explained the deal. Texsa high schools have an “exit test that consists of 4 parts, language being one part, in order to attend a texsa university. The language section is a 2 parter. He took the test twice, passing the fist 3 parts both times and failed the 2nd part of the language section on his second try. Doesn’t sound like he tried to tank it.

          • Oscar says:

            Si’

      • Jordan Esco says:

The thing w/ that is there’s no restrictions on him practicing, regardless of his eligibility issue. So I don’t know that I’d read too much into him practicing just yet.

        • dallassooner says:

I expect this to get tied up with the NCAA. Not terrible for this to be a redshirt/lost year the way all this went down anyway I guess. My horn fans are angry. But they are always angry.

          • GreginDestin says:

Although sketchy, it appears Lampkin’s performance has been so good Stoops now believes he is an immediately contributor so he practices on the premise such an ability to play will exist at some point either a week from Saturday or very soon thereafter.. The one piece of film at practice was, well…impressive.

          • EasTex says:

It was revealed late in yesterday’s thread that his video was a fraud and that he punked Danley. Apparently the OL responded to him quite vigorously the following day.

          • John Garner says:

“Vigorous” is probably too kind a description..

        • SamSooner says:

We need this rivalry to become heated again. It’s been too cordial lately, in my opinon.

        • John Garner says:

          Oh! Bummer.

    • Eric Hoffpauir says:

      Strong doesn’t have a choice.

    • Jake says:

      “RELEASE THE KRAKEN”!…. *LAMPKIN

    • Jordan Esco says:

Texas is definitely still fighting it. That’s really all we’re at liberty to say at the moment.

      • 47 Straight OU Know says:

        My thoughts…..

      • OUhound says:

Jordon, I am trying to think of one time that Stoops refused to let a player transfer and play, if the NCAA said ok. In truth, Texas probably has that right. But its just not the classy thing to do, and certainly dragging it out is just plain wrong.

      • j l says:

Thats not what a longhorn friend of mine, who is friends with the admins on one of their boards is saying.
He said they are giving up the fight, theres nothing to be gained from it.

They are considering tampering charges, but probably wont follow through, as the case would be tough to win.

        • Jordan Esco says:

Maybe that’s how things eventually play out, but I know where our info is coming from and as of yesterday this was not the case.

          • j l says:

I dont want to put my friend on blast by publicly posting the admins response, but ill email it to you guys, and you can tell me what you think, if you care to.

          • j l says:

Sent it via the contact section of the site.

      • Daddy R says:

I read somewhere last week ( I cannot find the link again!) where C. Strong said they would protest it to the NCAA as if the kid had done all of this intentionally. Strong was very adamant in the article that they are not giving in easily, and will appeal until the kid has to sit the year, or something to that effect..

    • OohRah Mama says:

Texas IMO is NOT even close to warrant being called the “team that shall not be named”. Fear of a name only increases fear of the thing itself. We do not fear Texas, and no matter how much they hope to, Texas shall never engender fear in the hearts of the Sooner Nation.

  • kt-raida says:

Glad Greg Bryant decommitted from us.

  • Sam Philbeck says:

Sicario looks fantastic. Really good. Imagine the backfield we may have if Greg Bryant hadn’t decommitted from us. Oh well best of luck to him.

  • SoonerfanTU says:

I’d say we avoided a nightmare when Bryant decommitted.

  • KJ1123 says:

I wish someone could put in my backyard lawn that fast.

Serious question, no trolling. Has ther ever been a kid from. Western Heights? Ever?

      • Boomer4life says:

That is a good a legitimate question. I honestly don’t know. I know him personally, he is a haus at 6ft/ 218lbs and 16 years old.
