‘Sooners making a strong in-state recruiting push’ (NewsOK)
How unhappy is Oklahoma’s David Boren? Unhappy enough to one day call Greg Sankey to discuss the possibility of joining the SEC? (AL.com)
Why can’t the Big 12 thrive with 10 schools? What would two schools add, especially two imperfect-fit schools, which are the only kind available at the moment? Again, dead-serious question. What would 12 provide that 10 doesn’t? (NewsOK)
BASKETBALL
Under-the-radar Big 12 freshman: Oklahoma's Rashard Odomes. 6-7 wing has terrific length and is really active. Will be in Sooners' rotation.

Let’s move baby! F the little 12!
Conor was fantastic on Conan..
SEC? SEC!!!
The only reason I want OU to leave the big 12 is to help recruiting. Look what happened to aTm when they left. I don’t care if it’s sec or pac 12. And I have also said if the big 12 expanded to 12 teams, byu, cfu, cincy, etc. aren’t good enough.
I want OU to leave because of Texas. Still want to keep the RRR, but would prefer to be out from under the self-entitled Horns. I also think that going to the SEC would revive the program. More than aTm, look what the move did for Missouri. Back-to-back Eastern Division champions. We can do that.
Well if they were in the the west division, I don’t see why they couldn’t win the west at the very least first in.
This. Texas A&M is getting top 10 classes having moved to the SEC. We ought to be able to do the same and with a playoff appearance get top 5 classes. We should move.
I thought OU would move when aTm did. But they figured the BIG 12 would still be the BIG 12. This isn’t 2008 anymore.
I think aTm’s improvement in recruiting had a lot more to do with Kevin Sumlin’s hiring. I don’t dispute that some athletes want to play against the “best” in the SEC, but I think that aTm would be having success under Sumlin in the Big 12. Sumlin was also doing great at Houston. However, I also am not too concerned about recruiting because I think that the biggest factor that will draw elite prospects is winning, which I think OU will do this Fall. Also, on a side note, it’s been two years without an SEC national champion, some dents are showing in that armor.
ATM switching to SEC & having Johnny Football win games while UT struggled was the best timing ATM could’ve asked for during this transition. However, JFooball is gone and ATM has come back to earth so we will see how long this perception lasts.
My problem with the PAC is waiting until late evening to view games from the central time zone. Also Oklahoma has a reputation for traveling well, I think that goes away with the West coast.
there are a ton of us Sooner alums and fans here in CA and the rest of the west coast
FWIW, Red River Rivalry among the 10 Best Traditions in CFB that shouldn’t be changed. What’s amazing is that it’s the lead article at ESPN’s CFB section:

For the BigXII to prosper we would have to raid another P5 conference for teams to add. So at this point, I’m all in favor of joining the SEC. Never thought I would say this, and I don’t take it lightly. But at this point, it is the best option.
There are no other conferences for the BigXII to raid. Name two or more schools that the BigXII has a realistic chance to move from another P5 to the BigXII. The P5 will become the P4 sooner or later. If the BigXII survives it will be as a mid-major with the schools remaining after OU, and KU go elsewhere. UT may stay for the ego trip of owning their own conference.
Tejas’ behavior and LHN will prevent any raids on P5 teams for BigXII. I was just stating that for BigXII to survive as a Power Conference that has to happen. But it ain’t. So, SEC is the best option at this point.
I live in Alabama and most people I talk to here would like to see OU in the SEC. You really have no idea the impression OU fans have made with Alabama fans.
Right now, the SEC is the premier football conference and it’s understandable to want to be a part of the best. If OU joined the SEC, I would be in comfortable driving distance to 2 or 3 games every year. That is hugely attractive. Twelve hour drives to Norman are not fun at my age. Still, I’m leaning towards the B1G. It seems much more logical from an academic perspective. I can see OU and KU to B1G.
I’m guessing that we will have to leave OSU and UT behind. OSU just doesn’t move anyone’s needle and UT has proven to be, well, Texas. Who would want them in their conference?
I would happily RV travel to SEC destinations before considering doing the same for B1G. Wisconsin in December versus Florida? Sheesh. Not even close.
Thirteen hour drive from Norman to Madison, Wisconsin. Almost eighteen to Gainesville, Florida.
As I said, OU in the SEC works well for me. From where I live, it’s less than a four hour drive to Vandy, Knoxville, Tuscaloosa, Auburn, the Mississippisi’s, Athens, etc. Still, my preference would be B1G.
I think expanding helps for a bunch of reasons that aren’t the obvious ones. We “probably” won’t be making any more money off the deal, but it could help with recruiting. Stability. Perceptions of the conference in general. Gives us a more natural football conference championship game, which I think is important. And on and on.
WORLD CHAMPS!!!
That game yesterday was awesome. Total domination.

Kansas and OU to the SEC makes all the sense in the world to me. Why are we in a conference that won’t/can’t improve?
Right on Boren, having 10 teams and calling your conference the Big XII qualifies as an
oxymoron. Adding two other rogue teams to make twelve just to hit
the number is not good enough, look at the other power conferences, at
least their team make-ups make sense geographically (West Virginia?,
come on) too. Joining the SEC, and having them broken down in this hypothetical West vs. East would be pretty spectacular;
The SEC West could look like this: Arkansas, Kansas, LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State,
Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas A&M
The SEC East could look like this: Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vanderbilt
What would 12 teams do that 10 cant? Have freaking divisions.
Do people not realize just how much the round robin schedule is hurting the big 12 perception?
Even if OU, UT, Baylor and TCU are all elite teams? Guess what, one of them is going to be 9-3, at best, and thats if the other 3 are 11-1, best case scenario.
Either parity kills us, and everyone is sitting on 2 losses, thus giving the perception that we have no elite teams, or 1 or 2 teams have 0-1 loss seasons, and everyone else has crappy records, thus giving off the perception that our top teams have faced weak competition.
Its pretty much lose-lose in either scenario.
Gone are the glory days of 2008 where we have 4 highly ranked teams at the end of the season. Its statistically impossible now.
Bring back divisions that evenly split the talent up, and watch big 12 perception get a boost.
While everyone wants to jump ship, Boren is planting negotiating strategy to UT. Multiple reason but the main one is to put pressure on UT to move the LHN to the Big 12 network. That would open the door for a more powerful strategy in gaining trust with other big time programs who may be in a similar situation with their conference.
Why should we want the Big 12 to succeed? Easy, playoffs. If the NCAA moves from 4 to 6 or 8 teams, having the big 5 would help college football.
Since we own the rights to Big 14, use it. Go to 14 and the long term plan/vision would be great for everyone involved.
