FOOTBALL

‘Can OU and Texas get it back?’ (TW)

This is only like five seconds long but I’ve probably watched it 100 times since yesterday and lil’ man’s face gets me every single time. Perspective, man. It can be a powerful thing.

This is kind of like the whole Mack situation, meaning the longer Patterson is in Austin the better I feel it will be for OU (especially from a ‘OU potentially leaving the Big 12’ perspective).

BASKETBALL

OTHER

Vegas, baby.

“For three days every January, thousands of men and women pack hotel conference rooms for open calls, waiting up to eight hours in their swimsuits, hoping that during their short time with the panel, their look stands out. The few who make it aboard can easily be earning a six-figure income by the fall.” (NY Times)

Might be easier to list who’s NOT on a watch list at this point.

Looks like we started over in the comments section. Thanks for the early post though Jordan!!

Akolda Manyang and Big Julius Campbell (aka Wood Harris)… separated at Birth?

    LEFT SIDE!!!

    • SavageSoonerEsq says:

They do favor, although I’m sure one has about 2 feet on the other.

      • Sooner 4Ever says:

Actually, Wood Harris is 6’3″… so only about 9 inches difference in height.

        • SavageSoonerEsq says:

Yeah…I upvoted your post because it was kinda funny. The comment about height was in jest. I realize the guy isn’t 5 foot tall.

          • Sooner 4Ever says:

I got that you were joking, but given that Manyang is 7′ tall, I was surprised that Wood Harris is as close as he is in height. Still 9 inches shorter, but when you I think “7 footer,” my mind automatically would put an actor as a foot or more shorter. But my wife insists 8 or 9 inches can make a big difference.

    I’d buy Nila’s CD.

By the way, the FB position. Who fills Rip’s shoes? Saw Uhles (a walk-on from Pitt State), Palange, and Flowers. I imagine Flowers is being developed to fit the Millard role, no? Are the other two our Juggernauts?

    • Stephen Dale says:

does L.R.’s ‘run & shoot’ offense even require a FB ? seems like Leach used a 1 – back formation and filled the field with receivers…..wouldn’t surprise me if the FB is not eliminated except in obvious running formations…….

      • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

Whatever the case may be, when used, who’s the lead rhino?

        • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Flowers was the second teamer last year, so…

          • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

I understand. But when Rip and Millard were there, Millard was used as an H-Back and Rip as lead blocker. I’m wondering if we return to that sort of FB 1-2 punch. Flowers as Millard 2.0. Uhles/Palange as Rip 2.0(a)(b).

They were a NASTY duo when they were following each other to de-cleat would-be tacklers. Very fun to watch!

      • SoonerMGB56 says:

There are many, many versions of the spread. And from what I’ve read about Riley, this will be his own version of the spread, not Leach’s. Leach is/was stubborn about the run. Leach would throw 60 times a game, often. More sometimes.
Even at ECU, where Riley had less talent (far less) at OL and RB, he threw less than Leach at WSU and TTU.
Many on this board assume that because the term “Air Raid” has been applied to Riley’s offense, it will look like what Leach runs.
There are versions of the spread (tOSU and Auburn for example) that a run first, and version that are pass first.
I’m predict Riley’s OU version will be in between. At ECU Riley passed 46 apg and ran 35 rpg. (Slightly more runs in 2013, when he had his best RB and he was healthy all year). Leach never came close to running that much. And he probably had better OL/RB talent than ECU.
Riley will have far more physical OL and far better RB talent at OU, and I think you’ll see him tweak the schemes accordingly. I predict something like 38 passes and 44 runs per game. And some of the running game will be power versions, and a touch of QB run (Carden ran, and he’s not the athlete any of the OU QB’s are). I suspect Riley’s offense will be formationally diverse, and incredibly difficult to defend.
We’ll see the FB/HB with the TE’s and maybe two RB’s on occasion. And the play will be a run sometimes and a pass sometimes. Flowers is too good an athlete to not use. Not sure the other two FB’s will get a lot of PT, but who knows.

I’ve got Dom on my watch list too. 🙂

    • John Garner says:

Yeah, me too. Dom stepped up big time. So what do we do with Frank now? Has he lost his job?

      • Exiled In Ohio says:

It’s a long season (yeah, an even longer off-season); we will need all three inside guys. There’s plenty of work to keep all three busy. If Shannon is back in form, what an advantage to have that kind of depth! And that’s not to mention the young guys who are looking good.

      • SoonerMGB56 says:

My bet is Shannon will start over Alexander at Will and Evan will start at Mike. I know Alexander has a lot of stats, and that is probably why he’s up on all these award lists. But to my eye, Evans was the better player for much of last year, and once Shannon plays his way into form, he’ll pass Alexander. A lot of Dom’s tackles were past the LOS, and with runners dragging him for extra yards. Evans filled holes better last year, and has added a lot of good weight, to make him even more physical. Shannon, if in the form of his previous year, is a better run stuffer, and better middle zone pass defender. About the only thing Dom is better at than Shannon, may be sideline to sideline pursuit, as he’s a bit faster. But I think Evans can match him there.
Bottom line. I think Dom and Bolton and Tay Evans will all get PT, but in relief. And the depth will make the ILB’s one of our strongest units this year.

        • Sooner 76 says:

Other way around. Evans moved to Will in the spring and Frank played Mike before.

          Otherwise agree completely.

    Texas, seriously?

“But Patterson also quickly developed a reputation as someone solely focused on money. And for good reason. An audited report showed the athletic department lost $2.8 million during the 2013-14 fiscal year. The real number is closer to $8.1 million, Patterson said, when you factor in debt service payments and facility projects.”

Well, I don’t know all the details here, but anything that f**ks Texas, I’m for.

The Kasitati vid is heartwarming. We need to see more stories like this instead of players punching girls. Thanx Jordan.
