Thank you Jesus…News daily is back, welcome home mr Esco

  • Steve Cooke says:

    Hello

  • Sooner 76 says:

Hope you had a great vacation, Jordan. We’re at the beach now. Seeing lots of Clemson flags here in NC. They’re coming out of the woodwork.

  • Sooner Ray says:

    Love the RB video.

  • Jeremy Phillips says:

Sittler plugging Houston & Nebraska.. geeze, id love a husker return but we already made the mistake of adding TCU.. Another Texas school would ruin this conference for good…

    • Stephen Dale says:

There is no advantage for Nebraska to return to this conference. Nebraska is in a far more prestigious conference with proximity to new rivalries : Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota to name three….And Nebraska doesn’t have to kiss Texas a** , either……

      • Jeremy Phillips says:

I think he’s going off the premise that culturally they aren’t fitting in the B1G.. The money isn’t vastly different & the fan base hates it… I still don’t see it happening but their fans are very unhappy..

      • HoustonChiver says:

If you call Iowa, Illinois, and Minnesota “rivals” then you have a loooot of soul searching to do.

      • D Hunter Sanchez says:

It is not a more prestigious conference. OSU won the title last year. Before that, the former Big 10 was the brunt of national jokes.

      • boomersooner says:

Powerhouses. Are you referring to spelling bees or football?

        • Boom says:

Really, it’s sad if you look at Nebraska’s home schedule. You think their fans like to watch Minnesota, Iowa, & Illinois? Trust me, they would much rather see OU/UT/OSU/KSU etc.

      • blaster1371 says:

All if the Nebraska fans I have talked to hate being in the Big 10.

    • Malicong says:

I honestly don’t think Houston will be in the final decision. Adding another Texas school does nothing for the long term financial prospects of the conference. Unless they intend on leaving WVU on an island, expansion is going to have to come from the east. Grabbing the two Florida schools or one from Florida and one from the mid-west is the only thing that makes sense to me.

      • Jeremy Phillips says:

There is still a lot of smoke about how unhappy FSU is with the ACC always catering to North Carolina & Duke basketball.. If they were to bolt, Clemson would likely follow..

        • SoonerOracle737 says:

I would take those two schools in a heartbeat.

        • MrBigsby says:

But who would pay the $50 million exit fee?

          • Jeremy Phillips says:

Both would, if they thought it would benefit them in the long run.. Donors would pay it..

          • MrBigsby says:

Not sure you realize just how much $50 million is. Texas A&M and Missouri fought over the Big 12 exit fee and paid less than $13 million.

          • SoonerGoneEast says:

Exit fees, GOR, or whatever, are typically reduced considerably, if not eliminated altogether. If there had been a GOR in place during the last BIG XII exodus, it’s likely there would have been no penalty as the television contracts actually increased.

          • MrBigsby says:

Exit fees yes, GOR no. That’s the tie binding schools to conferences these days.

          • SoonerGoneEast says:

It is my understanding that exit fees and GOR’s both exist as a clause for liquidated damages. These are basically estimates in advance of damages that would be incurred in the event a school exits the conference. However, If there are no damages or if actual damages are significantly less, then they will likely not stand in a court of law without a reduction to bring them in line with actual damages. Basically, the league would be entitled to compensatory damages, but not punitive damages.

Surely there’s a litigator on this page who can clear all this up, lol!

          • MrBigsby says:

This will explain some it: http://businessofcollegesports.com/2012/12/03/grants-of-television-rights-not-increased-exit-fees-are-the-solution-to-realignment-frenzy/
Basically, the GOR was put in place because the exit fees were enforceable. GOR has nothing to do with damages, so they are harder to break than an exit fee.

          • MrBigsby says:

            *weren’t enforceable

          • SoonerGoneEast says:

Having a GOR is one thing, finding a court to go to the effort and spend the resources to enforce it when compensatory damages can be easily calculated is another.

If it can be proven that there are limited financial damages as a result of a shift in conferences by an individual school, the GOR won’t hold and the court will choose to instead award CD. If you look back at all the maneuverings, there wasn’t a Power 5 conference out there that lost contract money as a result of schools shifting conferences.

We’ve been talking about the ACC, but if Texas and Oklahoma left the conference (I don’t believe there’s any question if one left the other most certainly would too) it could no longer function and would cease to exist, thereby voiding all GOR’s. My point being that in this case the GOR’s were more about protecting OU and Texas than the others.

          • MrBigsby says:

GOR has nothing to do with “damages” though. If you are making $20M in the ACC from television revenue and leave for the Big12, still making that $20M, that money would go to the ACC, not the exiting school. Athletic programs can’t survive without the tv revenue. Your argument works great for the exit fee, but not the GOR.

          • Jeremy Phillips says:

Of course they would litigate the exit fee.. Im just saying if they really want out.. They’ll find a way out.. Exit fees wouldnt stop it…

          • MrBigsby says:

Yeah, the exit fee could be negotiated down, but it’s the GOR that is the hardest obstacle to overcome. Are they attractive to the Big12 knowing TV review would be owed to ACC? It’s a long tough battle and why you are mainly hearing Houston, BYU, Cincy, UCF type schools when expansion is mentioned. Big12 slept, while other conferences locked up the big dogs.

        • Mysterio1 says:

They would probably listen, but the ACC buyout is a huge one. Of course Texas will cry.

      • Boom says:

You think UT will allow UH to Join? No way.

    • Sooner 76 says:

Sittler is a Neb alum. Nevertheless, I would love to see Neb back in the conference.

  • Daryl says:

is there anything to read into with us gong after so many juco offensive linemen. I don’t feel like we have recruited this many in the past. Though I am usually wrong about these kind of things.

    • Stephen Dale says:

OU is not having success with its top HS OL targets ( Boudreaux to ND for instance ) so the Sooners are trying to build depth with JC guys to augment the young frosh / frosh rs linemen already on campus—-at least that’s the way it seems to me……….

    • Bob Edwards says:

OU did not recruit well under the previous OL coaches. Most of our current OL are either seniors or freshman. They need to fill in the missing classes so that they aren’t taking huge classes one year and none the next.

    • Mysterio1 says:

Coach B has been very straight up about his feelings for JC’s. He feels they have an edge, more mature body and tech wise.
I don’t have an issue with this, high school kids just don’t seem to be interested until OU does it on the field.

  • Eric Hoffpauir says:

Glad to have you back, Jordan. I was away all last week on vacation myself. I wore a Sooners t-shirt to Universal Studios Florida and had a bunch of people saying “all right OU!” including a guy in a Baltimore Orioles T-shirt patting me on the back, and a guy who worked at the park flashing a horns down sign at me. Good times!

    • rainydaze114 says:

I’ve had similar experiences in FL… must be a lot of Sooner transplants down there!

  • Jordan Esco says:

    Happy to be back!

  • SoonerGoneEast says:

It’s good to have you back, Jordan, but it’s no coincidence that in your absence I had one of my most productive weeks at work in quite some time.

  • Indy_sooner says:

    Bruh, NSFW tag. LMAO

  • John Garner says:

Thanx Jordan. Really missed the daily.

  • L'Carpetron Dookmarriot says:

How about not another Texas school in the Big 12 (however many)? The Texas Athletic Conference just doesn’t have a ring to it.

  • lovethemsooners says:

    Glad your back Jordan.

The last thing OU needs is another Texas team in the Big 12. Our recruiting in that state has already been watered down due to Baylor and TCU, along with A&M’s move to the SEC. Hopefully President David “Wallflower” Boren won’t wilt on this one. We don’t need to add anyone. Just bide our time until the GOR runs out and bail.

  • KJ1123 says:

Oregon State, OK State similarities: Same colors, same acronyms, same disposition, both play second fiddle to the Universities in their state. PERFECT MATCH-UP.

    • rainydaze114 says:

… and if you combine their mascots, they’re the Cowbeavers (or Beaverboys), which is funny.

  • John Garner says:

    Who’s Tate Leavitt?

  • Randy says:

With dead period upon us.. I think it would be cool to see our top couple of prospects from each position on the board also a sleeper (or best instate sleeper). Yes, I am bored I even started a new season of NCAA Football ’13.

    • ALar03 says:

There is a group of people that are updating a roster you can download and play with the 2015 rosters.. thats the only thing keping me sane with no more Ncaa football games!

  • Barry Duren says:

Xavier Kelly has released his top 8. OU didn’t make the cut. TCU did. Also KSU.

    • Ryan says:

Plus Mayden. OU was thought by many to be the leader for both. Can’t even make their final lists. We are missing Monty big time when it comes to defensive recruiting

      • Jordan Esco says:

And if they miss out on Boudreaux…..yikes

        • Ryan says:

It would make for a depressing couple of weeks for Sooner fans.

          • Jordan Esco says:

Very much so (w/ the obvious caveat that it’s still a long way until NSD).

          • Ryan says:

Gotta have a great year on the field this season to make these recruits think about OU again. Very important for recruiting, period.

          • Jordan Esco says:

Sure looks like it’s shaping up that way.

          • DCinAZ says:

I see people talking about winning more to get recruits but Tennessee doesn’t do jack and loads up on top recruits every year. Ole Miss and Miss State are starting to land top prospects as well and they’ve never done anything.

        • Mysterio1 says:

Its all a reflection of the product on the field. I watched the 30 for 30 on the Boz. I will never forget his effort in losing to the U. We need players with a nasty streak that won’t lay down when hit in the mouth!

      • Randy says:

I figured the Monty thing was coming. I think depth chart (then wins) have played a bigger part with Mayden and now Kelly.

        • KJ1123 says:

I agree, OU is deep in OL and is getting deeper at DL. Alot of guys on the roster will play immediately. I think OUs history with JUCO players makes some kids apprehensive about committing because they know they will almost certainly sit as freshmen.

          • Randy says:

And honestly I want bigger DE, I mean 275 coming in from HS unless they can play OLB like Chambers (listed as a DE).

          • kokevo says:

why doesn’t Alabama have this problem? They sign top guys every year oh and lsu,a&m,and Tennessee (the past few years). We need to stop making a excuse every time ou misses on a top talent it’s going to start a snowball effect the coaches need to take a few pages out of Montgomerys book and learn how to bring in some of these guys.

          • SoonerinLondon says:

            Alabama is winning.

Just win and it all takes care of itself. It is not difficult figure out, just difficult to execute. Hopefully, we can vet back to it.

  • Glocal Sooner says:

People ask what the visual difference is between 4.4 speed and 4.5 or 4.6, that RB video was a great example. All incredible RB’s but you could really tell the difference in the guys that had breakaway speed.

  • Glocal Sooner says:

I don’t mind change at all but I feel like this last realignment left us (Big XII) in the dust. I wish we wouldn’t have changed the Big XII at all considering where we’re at today. We seriously need to add 2 more quality teams to the mix and quickly. Any Big XII official who says we don’t is just trying to downplay the situation. Don’t know which schools make the most sense but I’d be up for adding 3 in our neighborhood and dropping WVU. Keeping them is fine too as long as we add to the East.

    • SoonerinLondon says:

No more Texas teams. We don’t need another SW conference.

Anybody but Houston or Rice. This conference is enough of a joke as it is.
