Somebody get this video to Perine. The bar has been raised.

This kid’s ankles may never recover.

    Morning!

  • BR says:

Thats probably the worst Sooners pump up video ever, although Julian Wilson’s impression of Forrest Gump got a chuckle out me

    • Bob Edwards says:

Yeah, really bad choice of music. Whether you like the music or not, it doesn’t go anywhere. A good pump up should have music that builds and builds. This just kind of goes on and on till you want it to be over.

      • SamSooner says:

Well, your definiens summed it up for me.

      • SamSooner says:

        How are you today, Bob?

        • Bob Edwards says:

Pretty well. Spent most of last week with family in town celebrating my mom’s 90th birthday. Not been on the internet that much.

          • SamSooner says:

I haven’t either. 90? Wow! Tell your Mom Happy Birthday for me.
Think of all the things she’s experienced. The discoveries and the new technology that have been introduced during her life time.

          • Bob Edwards says:

Yep, its interesting to hear her talk to my kids (now all young adults) and see how there perspective on things change. Many of the things they take for granted did not exist when she was a kid.

      • BR says:

        my thoughts exactly

      • HoustonChiver says:

You’re right, they did it backwards. The team huddled around jumping up and down should’ve been towards the beginning, then the big plays mid-end of video.

      • Ed Cotter says:

They needed more shots of Perine running over people and there were no shots of downfield passes to Shep. What kind of pump up video doesn’t include Shep?

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

The music doesnt scream football, heck it doesn’t even whisper football

  • Corey Muller says:

http://youtu.be/jKTlWmd66mI I prefer this pump up. Landthieves tweeted it out yesterday.

    • Bob Edwards says:

Yes, definitely better. It builds throughout. Could have been a little longer with some more clips from the current players. But definitely better than the other one.

      • Corey Muller says:

In my opinion it’s the best I’ve found this far. Honestly there isn’t much from last year to sample from as far as big memorable plays. But I agree, most pump ups should include last years hurrah’s, we just didn’t have that many.

        • Bob Edwards says:

Yeah, I saw one that spent about half the pump up on the negative stuff. Told a good story, but not want you want in a pump up video.

    • Sooner Ray says:

Watched this last night, love the audio.

      • EasTex says:

I love Metallica almost as much as I love the Sooners.

        • SamSooner says:

EasTex, I just played some golf with some friends this weekend. One of his buddies had some Metallica going. I didn’t say anything and I tried to ignore it; it took be out of my game. By hole 10, though he still had it going, I didn’t hear anything. Elevator music, I suppose. I looked at my scorecard, the first nine, not so good, the back 9, I shot 40. That’s the last time I play with that dude.

          • EasTex says:

I’ve never played an inning of golf in my life, but I have been to several Metallica concerts. I should say the pre-2000 Metallica, don’t like their music since then very much.
            I listen to them…Wherever I May Roam.
            https://youtu.be/qtv5ZqsAFFc

          • Sooner 4Ever says:

Amen, Brother EasTex. While I love Trujillo’s playing in the past with other acts, Metallica’s sound has never appealed to me since Newstead left. Not that I think it’s Trujillo’s fault… I’m sure it comes more from Lars, and to a lesser extent, Hetfield, when they’re doing post-production, but the fact remains, I haven’t found a single track I love since Reload.

          • EasTex says:

            Same here.

        • 47 Straight OU Know says:

Eas Tex, I would have never taken you for a Metallica fan. :-

          • EasTex says:

I saw Hendrix in concert. A Rocker from way back, but then I love good music regardless of the genre.

          • 47 Straight OU Know says:

Might I suggest. The group Down. Phil Anselmo started it after Pantera

          • Sooner 4Ever says:

Phil ASSelmo started Down and tore apart Pantera. He couldn’t stand the fact that the “frontman” didn’t get the same amount of pub and accolades as the axeman, so he destroyed Pantera. Jealousy is a powerful demon.

Down’s music is great, but I refuse to listen due to the destruction it created/ sprang from.

          • 47 Straight OU Know says:

I was actually just thinking I might get a reply from you after talking about listening to Pantera the other day while you were mowing. It does suck that all the BS dismantled a great band.

          • Sooner 4Ever says:

Yeah, I love Pantera’s sound. Still one of the greatest bands to get a ‘pump’ from before or during a workout.

As to the breakup, there are 3 sides to every story… his, hers and the truth. Or in the case of Pantera, Anselmo’s, Abbotts’ and the truth. But, I know of which I speak, and in this case, Dime and Vin have a lot less blame for how things ended than Anselmo. He hurt a lot of people, and while he can rightfully claim that a lot of his actions were affected by his drug use, without his envy of the respect that Dime got in the industry, the problems created by his usage would likely never have resulted in an irreconcilable rift.

Rita and Anselmo have made a distant peace, but I don’t see Vinnie ever making peace, despite the fact that Anselmo would like to. “No piece with him. EVER!” is a direct quote.

          • 47 Straight OU Know says:

Sometimes bridges can not be rebuilt.

          • Sooner 4Ever says:

Yeah, and in order for this bridge to ever get rebuilt, one has to get past a detour sign that says “Dime would never have been on that stage in Columbus had things not ended the way the did for Pantera.” Vin loves playing with HellYeah and is happy (has a great girl bringing peace to his life), but his brother left a hole that will, sadly, never heal.

          • EasTex says:

I don’t know the particulars about all that happened to Pantera and don’t really care. They were a great metal band and hated to see them break up.
I always liked Anselmo and when he hooked up a bunch of guys from the metal band “Crowbar” to form Down I was quite pleased.

          • Sooner 4Ever says:

I would never suggest anyone else should let the Pantera ending preclude them from enjoying Down; that’s a personal thing for me. Like I said, Down’s music was great. The problem is personal for me as I have a decidedly different perspective than the usual Pantera fan.

          • EasTex says:

            Got two of their CDs.

        • rainydaze114 says:

Metallica should have quit after And Justice for All.

        • rainydaze114 says:

…and as a drummer, Metallica is probably the hardest band to listen to. Excellent guitar riffage, amazingly terrible drumming. You would think that after 30 years Lars would have it figured out, but he’s just gotten worse. He was only ever good at the thrash/blast beats- which aren’t complicated at all.

          • OohRah Mama says:

Different direction, but it’s hard to touch The Rev from A7X. May he rest in peace.

      • Corey Muller says:

Thanks SamSooner. I’ve been lurking for a while now. I feel like I’ve finally found a fantastic home for sooner sports news. I went from ESPN, to B/R, to LandThieves and finally I’m here. It’s been a rough journey, but worth it. And you’re absolutely right about the family part, it is incredible.

        • D Hunter Sanchez says:

You made it to the major leagues! Welcome…Question: Mayfield or Knight?

          • Bob Edwards says:

Shhh, let’s not get into religious arguments his first day here.

          • Corey Muller says:

I’ve heard everything y’all have (presumably) but I’m gonna go out on a limb and say Knight. My 70 page dissertation regarding this debate is currently undergoing peer review haha.

          • Stephen Dale says:

just hope at least one of the QB’s actually ‘takes the next step’ in this new offense…….

          • Bob Edwards says:

I am thinking the new play caller will have an impact. Watch Perine’s highlights from last year. There are times when he is still looking at the sidelines when the ball is snapped. Lot’s of delay penalties too.

Its got to be hard for a QB to have the play changed multiple times and only have a second or two to prepare for the actual play call. Can’t help the concentration or the confidence. I think a lot of Knight’s problem last year was hesitancy which caused him to over think and be tight on his throws which effected his accuracy.

My understanding is that Riley calls the play and then the QB has several options based on the read. Riley also just exudes confidence which will probably rub off on the players. We may see an entirely different set of QB’s than we had last year, and they may have the same names and numbers.

          • EasTex says:

            Excellent points.
For Knight, not having someone whispering in his ear not to get hurt so they don’t burn Hansen’s RS, should free his mind considerably.

          • Bob Edwards says:

Yeah, I keep thinking back to that Alabama game and wondering where that QB went. I got to believe in that game there was nothing to lose so he just let it all hang out. Last year he was The Guy and was not nearly as good. I suspect a good QB coach might help him past that. I think our QB coach last year actually made it worse.

          • EasTex says:

He was a confident player in the SB, that was missing most of last season. Whether he is the starter when the season begins or not, I sincerely hope he can regain that same level of confidence.
I believe you are correct about Riley’s confidence and that it will influence all the QBs.

          • cush creekmont says:

Yep…and boy was that RS “valuable.”

          • EasTex says:

            Who knew?

“We may see an entirely different set of QB’s than we had last year, and they may have the same names and numbers.” – Bob Edwards.

            Some of the #82’s I recall are Brannon Green-Billy Brooks-Forest Valora-Steve Zabel.

I’m curious how long it’s going to take (if ever) for rugby to catch on in America. It’s a great sport and obviously a ton of fun to watch.

    • Jed says:

Kind of difficult as it draws from the same player pool that feeds football. I’d be curious to see stats on differential injury rates and severity. Maybe if football gets banned at the youth level due to concussion concerns…but I’m not sure rugby gets a much better score on that front.

      • Bob Edwards says:

Yeah, I don’t see it happening. To most people it will be viewed as football without pads. In a day and age where there is more and more concern about injuries that is pretty much swimming upstream.

        • Jed says:

Oh, there’s lots of things you could say in favor of rugby from a safety standpoint, like no oblique tackles, no forward passing, yadda, yadda. But I’m not sure that has enough impact to make the choice of one over the other justifiable on safety grounds. And I just don’t see rugby overtaking football otherwise.

          • Bob Edwards says:

Whether it is safer or not, doesn’t really matter. I think, to most people, the perception would be that since you don’t have pads, it can’t possibly be safer. And perception would be what draws interest. Also, it is just close enough in looks to football that most people would see it as football with screwed up rules, kinda like Canadian Football.

          • Jed says:

We’re kind of loudly agreeing. The only way I see it happening would be IF football were effectively banned AND rugby was seen as a safe alternative….and I don’t see that happening.
            All that said, “GO WARATAHS!’

      • rainydaze114 says:

Well, that’s unfortunate. It’s tremendous sport that requires elite athleticism and strategy. I’ve heard that there are fewer injuries in rugby (again, only heard, not confirmed) which I assume is because players do not feel invincible with all the protective gear. Which would make sense as the tackler is trying to protect himself/herself just as much as they are trying to bring down the other player. You can’t say the same about football. We see poor form lead to injuries on a daily basis.

      • rainydaze114 says:

Well here you go… rugby injury rates significantly lower than football.

  • BigJoeBrown says:

Kliff Kingsburry…..hahaha. The hype and the contract behind that coach just amaze me. Out of curiosity, do you think that if Tx Tech has another down season, it will be the end of the program? It will go the way of the Kansas and Iowa State. I just see Lubbock being a hard place to recruit and also bring in and keep good coachs.

    • Bob Edwards says:

You mention Kansas and Iowa State. Four of his six Big 12 wins are against those schools. His other two are against TCU and WVU and both went 4-8 that year. To date he has beaten two teams with a winning record and one was a 7-6 UTEP team.

They seriously overpaid for someone with only three years as a position coach and one as an OC on his own. With all that debt, they are likely stuck with him unless somebody with pockets decides to buy him out. My guess is they are Big 12 bottom feeder for at least a decade unless Kingsbury turns out to be a good coach after a couple of years of on the job training.
