FOOTBALL

Samaje Perine in at No. 8

ICYMI yesterday.

Keith Ford is headed to Texas A&M. Interesting decision considering the offense they run and their recent track record of RBs. (247)

Sooners check in at No. 6 on this ranking of the Big 12’s DB units. (ESPN)

OTHER

OU’s Paige Parker with an appearance here.

Well, crap.

Smooth (and, I’m sure, fake).

If you weren’t ready to cry on a random Friday, consider yourself warned.

Like a boss! Gonna miss ford even tho I heard he was bad mouthing ou.

    • Indy_sooner says:

Details? I know its easy for rumors to propagate, so I’m curious as to the source. If Aggie Yell is a cesspit

      • kokevo says:

I read on a 247 page last night that he was talking about the coaches and the school in a negative way. How much of it you can believe im not sure.

        • John Garner says:

Sorry to hear that if true. Sounds like sour grapes. I thought he was a class act.

        • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Here’s a quote: “I want to play for a coach that wants to see me succeed academically and treat me more like a man,” he said. “My last coach treated me like I was in high school. I want someone who will be straight up and really, really talk with me.”

Okay, Keith that is an honest perspective. But only one perspective. I just would like to ask if you were first on the depth chart would you have left? You started to fumble, something OU RB’s don’t do…and got hurt, came back and fumbled. We have 2-3 backs that are better than you. I forgot another fumbler is in Aggie land as well. B Williams…so two peas in a pod.

          • WilliamJack says:

Exactly!! He would probably have spent time on the bench. Roy Finch with all of his talent never fulfilled it IMHO because of poor decisions and attitude that kept him off of the field. That said, Finch toughed it out and stayed w/o the whining to the Press.

      • kokevo says:

Ford said “it was nice to hear how much they put back into there academics because that is something I never experienced at ou”

        • Sooner Ray says:

My experience was you only get as much as you put in. Everything requires hard work and dedication.

        • Ed Cotter says:

OU has tutors and mandatory study halls and guys get in trouble for missing study halls. Not sure how he wasn’t supported. This seems more a conflict with Boulware than anything. Oh well, good luck to the young man….hope he does well.

        • ND52 says:

Sour grapes. It’s well known that OU retains a small army of tutors to keep their players academically eligible.

Some kids simply aren’t cut-out for college.

        • Indy_sooner says:

Thanks. I have lost respect for the young man. It’s unfortunate how easy it is to blame others for your issues. If I do poorly in class, I say that the school doesn’t take academics seriously. I could be wrong, but I’ve heard stoops is one of the more harder coaches in this aspect, not that he needs to tell a grown man to go to class

          • ND52 says:

Many high schools today simply do not prepare young people for college (much less life in general) and kids like Ford wind-up at schools like OU simply because they’re really good at sports.

            Otherwise…………………….

          • Sooner 76 says:

It’s been reported that Ford didn’t go to class and was also skipping meetings and/or workouts. So he got suspended. He has no one to blame but himself. Time to man up, Keith.

I wish him well at A&M, but he needs to keep his mouth shut and take care of his business.

          • Steve-O says:

I wish your English prof would have been more harder on you.

          • Brent says:

            “more harder” ???

  • Sooner Ray says:

Hopefully Pendley can go, she will be needed.

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

    Samaje Perine>Nick Chubb

    • ALar03 says:

      SEC > Big12 per ESPN

    • SoonerMGB56 says:

I’m with you there. I don’t buy either Elliott or Chubb as better than Perine. But if one is, it would be Elliott, not Chubb.

  • james babcock says:

We have to win the first game tonight in Alabama if we don’t with a true freshman in paige parker we won’t win the super regional.

  • ComancheJoe says:

Nice complement paid to Bob Stoops by Kevin Sumlin here:

    • John Garner says:

      Nice.

    • ToatsMcGoats says:

Did you read the article from that page about Keith Ford? Dude said that A&M cares more about education than OU…and if that wasn’t enough, he said that he wanted to sign with A&M out of high school. What the hell? I appreciated his candid interview about why he was leaving, but why the hard feelings?

      • ComancheJoe says:

I was surprised by his interviews as well. The Boulware comments not so much, since he had already gone on record about that, but the comments about OU not supporting him in academics was terrible. That would also include his beloved coach Gundy, wouldn’t it?!

        • soonermusic says:

Hard to tell, but I had the sense that it was all directed at Boulware…

          • ComancheJoe says:

I agree that Boulware is the main target, but he only recently became Ford’s position coach. Since Keith has two years in the program, to say that he NEVER experienced people caring about him academically at OU, would implicate everyone on the staff.

            This quote made me laugh:

“Brandon told me that it was very laid back up there and he said if you do what you need to do that everything will be fine,”

Keith, dude……….if you did what you needed to do at OU, everything would have been fine.

  • John Garner says:

Hey, Jordan, if that vid about the girl flopping is a fake, how about removing it because it certainly isn’t funny.

  • thebigdroot says:

Damn you Jordan. It’s Friday and you go and bring us this sad crap. It’s supposed to be a happy “it’s a three day weekend” kind of Friday.

  • John Garner says:

I like the 15 for 15 picks. Samaje is on it and no one from Texas is. Oo-aa!

  • Zack says:

So Chubb is ranked ahead of perine? Wow

    • SamSooner says:

Chubb is in the Sow Eating Conference. Didn’t you know?

Why, ev’ry thang is betta down dere. Ya’ll come back, now. Ya, heah?

    • Sooner 76 says:

It doesn’t matter where he’s ranked, it matters how he performs. I have no concerns about Perine’s performance this fall.

Similarly, it doesn’t matter where OU is ranked in May, it matters whether they win their games in the fall.

      • Zack says:

This is true. I’m just saying perine as a true freshman last year (if draft eligible) would have been the first running back taken in the draft last month.

  • BigJoeBrown says:

Really cool to see Bradford and Murray back in side by side.

  • Malicong says:

I lost a lot of respect for Ford yesterday. There is a good discussion further down the thread, but I can’t respect someone that won’t hold himself accountable for his own actions.

  • SavageSoonerEsq says:

Anyone have any idea why Alvarez and Webb withdrew from the doubles competition?

  • jonnyBgood says:

That Batkid video is flat out amazing. Things like that make me still believe in humanity and the good in people. If you haven’t watched it I highly recommend you do and if you are having a bad day it will turn it around. What a beautiful thing that was!

    • John Garner says:

Amazing is right! Great story! Just what I needed today. Thanx Jordan. I much prefer that kind of story to the vid of the fake belly flop performed at the beach. Nothing fake about that story or the kid.

  • Jake says:

You weren’t lying about the Batkid video….. Sheesh, sweaty eyes!
