Steph Curry’s kid is cute. Is there anything sports reporters won’t bitch about?…wow

  • Chris White says:

At least Steph Curry is taking their questions and answering respectfully. More than some athletes could say. Some of these reporters are really bashing a 2 year old for acting her age saying she must have a mental disability. Ridiculous

  • Sooner Ray says:

Good write up on Bradford. Rousey………yes.

  • Jared William Reininger says:

First off, saw the Steph Curry thing and thought the same thing as that guy. It was cute and funny. Better than the typical rehashed question and answer time we usually see. Everyone bitching needs to just stop. I think the media has become to powerful in some cases and a lot of times reporters push an athletes button to get a rise out of them and then cry foul when the rise occurs. *Steps off soapbox*

Second, people seriously think Bradford can’t throw deep? I guess they don’t recall his days at Oklahoma.

    • Jed says:

I lived in several third world countries over the past 30 years or so. Must say that I thoroughly enjoyed watching ‘The Press’ get the old electric cable flogging treatment from time to time. Truly cathartic.

  • Steve-O says:

I still don’t buy that the co-champs thing played a factor. It’s all post-hoc rationalizations for the teams they want to pick. Even if it’s not, post-hoc rationalizations are indistinguishable from the committee’s process, which is bad enough. The selection of teams needs to be formulary.

    • Jed says:

Not that I disagree, but do you have a formula that would satisfy everyone? Lots of good people have tried and failed to come up with one.

    • Bob Edwards says:

+1 for using post-hoc on a sports message board and using it correctly.

College Football Committee looking for Jed’s playoff formula:

    • SamSooner says:

It has always been subjective and there is not a true way to eliminate the human element. There are some smart people out there that will figure out a way to have formulas that favor their team/conference of choice.

My recommendation is to have every team in the conference play each other. Then, have conference champions face off. Conference champions advance. Invite the runner up in the conference if it makes sense to do so: you could have two teams from each conference: 10-team play off. Draw names out of a hat to determine match ups. No team from the same conference can meet unless they’re the last two standing. If you draw teams from the same-conference as a matchup, throw it back in the hat and draw again.

It might not be perfect but it will at least make sure there aren’t any cupcakes scheduled for a non-conference games: at least that’s settled.

      What do you think?

      • Exiled In Ohio says:

It seems obvious that it would be more fair if they could do an 8-team playoff. The problem is the logistics of that extra round, and I don’t think there is a lot of support for that around the country.

I like the idea of all 5 power conferences getting an automatic slot in the playoffs, and then perhaps the 3 best other teams. That way conferences could pick their champion however they like. But I don’t see how this prevents cupcake non-conference games. If all you have to do is win your conference, then you could get away with an easy non-conference. However, it could actually play out just the opposite way: teams might be more willing to schedule tough non-conference if they know it won’t hurt their playoff opportunities.

Unfortunately, I just don’t think you are going to see more than a 4-team playoff anytime soon.

        • SamSooner says:

          Exiled, how are you?

I failed to mention that there wouldn’t be any non-conference games for the regular season. There would be conference games only. So, that’s 9 regular season games for the Big XII, then 3 rounds of games before the championship game.

          • Exiled In Ohio says:

Doin’ well, Sam. I’ve just been pretty quiet on here lately. Like everyone else, I hate the off-season. Not too big on trolls either.

Hmmmm, 9 regular season games = 4 home games + RRSO. I don’t see how you balance your athletic budget with only 4 home games. I would rather see 11-12 games in the regular season, with more marquee matchups in non-conference.

          • SamSooner says:

Good to hear that things are going well. I’m on from time to time. I’m about to start traveling again. So, time spent here will decrease.

I get your point. I hadn’t thought about only 4 home games. Well, I guess the selection committee could require the Power 5 conferences to schedule non-conference games only with other Power 5 conferences. Just a thought.

          • Exiled In Ohio says:

            Works for me!

        • soonerthunder says:

me too! I’ve always thought 8 was minimum for playoffs. unfortunately, as far as i’m concerned, it’ll be a few years b/f we get to 8 teams. I could even go for 16, and I know, but don’t agree with the arguments against it.

        • soonerthunder says:

I think you’ll see a lot less SEC NCs when they actually have to play 2 good teams to win it. IF, they don’t put 2 out of the 4 from the same conference. If only one, you’ll probably see SEC win it some, not every year for sure. Weak conference, IMO, and to have to play 2 good teams in a row instead of 7 weeks to play one good team. SEC always got one of the 2 slots for NC, sometimes both slots, so they should have won it more than anyone else. I think if any P5 conference would have had their best team in automatically, that conference would have several of those NCs, and if SEC isn’t even one of the 2, I bet they wouldn’t win the NC. A playoff of 4 teams, with only 1 being SEC, makes it a tiny bit more competitive for the SEC.

      • RocketCitySooner says:

In my perfect world, a miracle happens and the ‘powers that be’ would decide five major conferences are one too many and would realign the five into four of about sixteen teams each. Each conference would have two divisions with their division champions meeting in their conference championship game. The conference champions would advance to the semi-final and college championship game. Winds up being an eight team play off.

  • Hollerback says:

Big 10 guys, alvarez and the Big12 hater, Osborne took over the last meeting and put in a Big 10 team over the 2 big 12 teams, dropping TCU 3 spots despite them winning by 7 TDs. This had nothing to due with “co-champions” they are just using that to hide their bias.

  • Jeff says:

They probably did it because no cares about Baylor and still don’t. They had there chance to shine the last two bowl games and have CHOKED!

    • thebigdroot says:

I am not talking sh*% on Baylor till we end their winning streak on us. Remember it was just a few years ago we could that OU has never lost to BU, since then……OUCH.

  • John Garner says:

Sporting News a real pain to navigate. Never got to Bob at #14. I’m surprised he’s that high. Understand Jimbo Fisher is at #19. I have no love for FSU or Jimbo but he’s a better coach than that. But no way is he a better man than Bob. Very few, if any, are.

    • Jordan Esco says:

Yeah, sorry about that. I despise the slideshow format and would normally avoid linking to anything in that form, but it’s such a down time for news…beggars can’t be choosers if you know what I mean 🙂

    • SamSooner says:

John, Stoops would probably say this: “Where I’m ranked does not change how I approach my job.”

  • JB says:

Once again, Lon Kruger proves through his actions that he is the perfect balance of coach and human being. I’ve said here many times that as an OU alum, I could not be more proud of him as OUr head coach and I do not think we could find a better representative for the University. I do not believe there is a single coach in NCAA basketball that shows as much professionalism, character or class as Lon Kruger.

The man does nothing but bring honor to the University. He doesn’t scream at refs. He doesn’t disparage his players publicly (remember Travis Ford calling a player–Obi Manelo I think–the “dumbest f’ing player” he’s “ever coached” and it came over the air/TV broadcast?). Lon does not skirt the rules/cheat, which is a nice change after Sampson and Capel. He recruits character players. And he’s a hell of a coach.

I would like to win a national championship (or more!) as an alum and fan, but I doubly want one for Lon. If anyone deserves one, he does.

  • John Garner says:

Wow. Just watched the Rhonda Roussey vid. I have a new-found respect for her. Especially when she cried after talking to the young girl at the book signing. She seems genuine when so many in sports are not. Thanx for posting.

That ending of Mad Men couldn’t have been more perfect. Of course Don would spend a few minutes meditating and come up with the perfect commercial to sell sugar-water in a way that promotes world peace. Brilliant!

  • Thegunnfather says:

I’m thinking about buying an Eagles jersey. Going to be tough for all the Dallas fans this year. Hope Sam has big year. I live close to Stillwater and have been listening to people say he is the most overrated college QB ever. Of course I immediately put them in the category of people who know nothing about football. Ready for football!!! Boomer Sooner!!!
