FOOTBALL

OTHER

Stop me if you’ve heard this before, OU Baseball blows a game in the late innings last night. And with it, their chances (however slim) of a Big 12 regular season title. TCU is your Big 12 champ. (Sooner Sports)

Epic choke job by the Clips last night, but Blake still did this.

And, because, of course.

Another nice story on Thomas here. (NBA)

Amen, brotha. Amen.

    Pitch Perfect is “vital”?

I hope the girl’s SB team rises to the challenge.

We will win the regionals fairly easy it’s the the Super Regionals that worry me.

OT, but a legend is gone.

Big impact on American music. R.I.P. B.B. King but the thrill you left behind is not gone.

      • EasTex says:

        Sadness.
Another piece of my life’s enjoyment gone.

        • Boom says:

Ditto. Ten years ago I wanted to listen to more blues because I was tired of the same classic rock. I found a blues site and it opened up a new world of music and appreciation. Man I will miss that guy. It’s who he influenced and how his music created exposure to the rest of the blues.

          • EasTex says:

“The Blues had a baby and they named it Rock And Roll.”
His style of blues and his showmanship were embraced by people the world over. The playlists on B.B. show him performing with performers of every style, including Pavarotti.

          • SamSooner says:

Very few artist transcend their genre. Those who do are truly legendary. Everyone, and I do mean everyone, knows B.B. King.

        • WilliamJack says:

          Exactly.

    • paganpink says:

He was a true legend, a word that is thrown around far too much. But he was seminal in blues guitar and was a huge part of the “Advanced rhythm and blues” that rock and rollers like The Who described themselves as in the early sixties. Combine an electric guitar with a genius like him and an entirely new genre of music was made that changed my life and millions of others.

    • Eric Hoffpauir says:

I got to see him just one time. It was incredibly disappointing. It wasn’t for his performance though, but because I couldn’t even hear him because of all the jerks talking around us. It was a free show on the banks of the Mississippi in St. Louis, and there were so many people that we couldn’t get anywhere close to the stage.

His opener was Dr. John, who we couldn’t hear either. We managed to catch him a few years later and were blown away.

      • EasTex says:

        I love Dr. J.

        • SamSooner says:

EasTex, if you haven’t already, watch the movie “Whiplash.”A friend of mine recommended it to me. Great movie and great jazz. I’ve purchased several songs from the sound track. I think this is something up your alley.

          • EasTex says:

Thanks, I’ll check it out when it is free on TV.
I don’t intentionally send money to Hollywood.

          • SamSooner says:

Go ahead and get it. If we should meet up, I’ll buy dinner. I’m coming out for the tOSU game.

          • EasTex says:

Once again, I appreciate the info.
I DO NOT give my money to Hollywood. I have made two exceptions to my boycott of the movies in the past 26 years, the Passion of the Christ and American Sniper.
If they make a penny off of me when the movies are free that’s too much.

      • SamSooner says:

I got to see Dr. John perform at the Jacksonville Jazz Festival once. Great gig if you can ever get there and if they’re still having it. It was always sponsored by DownBeat, a bi-monthly jazz magazine.

        • Eric Hoffpauir says:

I saw Dr. John perform with the Blind Boys of Alabama. He was billed as the headliner but opened the show, brought them out, let them play for awhile, came out and played some songs with them, played some more of his own songs, then brought them back out for a big finale. Spectacular show.

    • Jed says:

Not out of place to say that he was responsible for the main-streaming of blues in this country.
Though it can’t be called a surprise, given his age and health, his passing is still a deeply felt loss.

      • Defend Colfax says:

He and Muddy were trailblazers. Very influential in moving blues guitar from some front porch somewhere to the big stage everywhere.

        • Jed says:

The old Library of Congress recordings done during the Depression are terrible quality, but great reference pieces. I’d also recommend Eric Sackheim’s ‘The Blues Line’ if you can find copies still in print.

    • Sooner Ray says:

I hope they bury Lucille with him.

  • Sam Philbeck says:

Can’t wait to see True Detective and can’t wait to see Mad Max tonight!

    • dallassooner says:

Mad Max is getting decent reviews. Which kind of surprised me cause i’m alway a pessimist.

      • ToatsMcGoats says:

It’s written and directed by George Miller, who co-wrote and directed the originals. It’s gonna be just as epic.

      • Sam Philbeck says:

Actually right now it sits at a 99% at Rotten Tomatoes and is one of the best reviewed movies of the young year, which I love but am alittle surprised by cause I didnt think it would be getting that great of reviews.

  • OU_Sooners says:

I think Baylor is going to be pretty good, but I still don’t see them being at the same level this year with the qb change.

    • lefty67 says:

Until I see a Briles team struggle at that position, there’s no way in heck I’d bet against him. The guy’s record for getting top notch production in that spot regardless of who he throws out there is about as impeccable as you can get.

  • Chris White says:

Don’t know if this was posted another time but I just saw it. Thomas with 8 points 6 rebounds 3 assists in 25 minutes

  • rphokc says:
