      Morning Football TFBERS!

    • Lane Gilstrap says:

Can’t say I blame him. OKC isn’t ever gonna be able to attract any big free agents and OKC won’t spend the money to keep who they have (Harden). Now they have to figure out what to do with Westbrook.

      • SoonerfanTU says:

It is not a money issue. What OKC was spending for the team is fine and appropriate. Durant was going to get max money. Westbrook was going to get max money. And everybody else was going to get paid. The problem is that Westbrook is leaving after next year. Not a big secret. And Durant didn’t want to be locked into a contract that would keep him in OKC, without Westbrook, for several seasons.

He went where the young, locked up talent is.

      • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

They are trading Westbrook to the Lakers for Julius Randle and D’Amgelo Russell 🙂

Good morning fellow Brainiac’s!! “It is another great day to be a SOONER” You know the season is right around the corner when the lurkers start commenting a little more each day. So everyone put some pep in your step and hold your head up high!!! Because “There is only ONE!!!!

  • BleedCrimson says:

Read a cOUple of rumors abOUt Baylor this morning on twitter.
    1. Apparently Kendall Briles hasn’t been to work this summer.
    2. sOUnds like Stidham (backup QB) may be looking to transfer, going JuCo for a season.

    • Sooner Ray says:

Baylor should go JuCo for a season or two. 🙂

      • SamSooner says:

        Good morning, Mr. Sooner Ray.

      • cush creekmont says:

Hey there, Ray! Juco is too good for them. Two years of fraternity ball followed by two years of Div 3.

        • Bob Edwards says:

They really deserve the death penalty. It has been a consistent pattern of problems with them over the years and not just minor rules violations like an improper display of a trophy.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

If they lose Stidham, that would be a big blow. Not just for this year, but for trying to remain competitive in upcoming seasons.

    • SamSooner says:

      Morning, BC!

    • ouwooferman says:

Could not happen to a better group of …eerrrrh , uh,

    • SamSooner says:

I saw something a few weeks ago from the Twitter account of BaylorFail that led me to believe Stidham is looking around.

      • BleedCrimson says:

        Same here.

        • SamSooner says:

That would really hurt. Stidham seems like a good kid and he might not want anything to do with Baylor, right now.

          • jimintexas says:

It might be a real positive thing for him. If Baylor could stay injury free, they could still be pretty dangerous this year. Then it the table starts tipping pretty sharply

          • SamSooner says:

Yep, Jim, you’re right. It’s like a ship in a rough storm, a storm of the century: it’s afloat now, but the rough conditions are bound to prevail: they’ve granted releases for 11 recruits from 2016 and they have 1 for 2017. That’s worse than any probation could inflict and probation from the NCAA is sure to come down on them.

          • soonerthunder says:

I think in one way they already are not “injury free.” By that I mean, it appears that they already have lost potential starters for this year’s team, which is the equivalent of an injury lost to the year. And depth. You can’t play anybody every single play all year at any position, and I’m convinced that many of these guys would have at least filled in a played a few snaps a game. But, I agree, it’s a ship on very stormy waters. I’d also add that they have leaks on the ship already to boot.

    • Katyboomer says:

If Stidham goes to Juco instead of just transferring to another school and using his RS year, he must be wanting to go to a Big 12 school. That way he does not have to seat out a year and lose a year.

      • OUWade says:

I was thinking that he was maybe just wanting to go somewhere and play, then see what his draft stock would be.

        • Katyboomer says:

I think it would be hard to go to the NFL out of Juco. I wonder how many have ever done that?

          • OUWade says:

yeah, good point. In my head, I was thinking about him playing this year at Baylor, then transferring, but I realize that the rumor would probably be that he may transfer to JUCO before the season starts.

If you’re right, then I imagine Texas Tech could be a possible destination, since he was a commit to the Raiders for a while, before flipping.

          • Katyboomer says:

Don’t really want to see him at TT, but they will have no D. So that may be the best place he could land for OU.

          • cush creekmont says:

If he wants to play to get in the League, he will not try TT where a QB is established. His smart play is to find a program that needs to “rent” a QB for a year. Arky, Auburn, ASU, WVU, someplace that will need a QB in 17.

          • Katyboomer says:

True unless TT QB goes pro in either Baseball or Football.

          • OUWade says:

not that I think Tech WOULD be the destination, but their argument could definitely be that Mahomes wants to go pro after this year. But, I agree with you that Tech probably wouldn’t be the best place to make a strong NFL impression. He would definitely put up gaudy numbers, but I’m not sure he’d get the best “NFL tutelage” from that staff.

          • SamSooner says:

Well, if just like I told my niece, who got pregnant in her sophomore year of college: it’s not impossible to finish, I told her, but your task just became a little more difficult.

          • Katyboomer says:

Thanks, that’s interesting. Bob, you always come up with these things.

      • BleedCrimson says:

sec was the word. Nothing but rumors at this point, may not even leave.

        • Katyboomer says:

yeah, saw that, but if that’s the case why not just go, RS and learn the system? unless he does not want to seat out a year. If he gets hurt or under preforms in Juco it will be a bad move on his part. Life is full of risk.

    • LottsSocks says:

Just curious, how is it Baylor could keep it secret about Kendall Briles’ absence this summer?

Oh wait a minute they’re pretty good at keeping secrets ?

  • UGA Sooner says:

Not really relevant to anything discussed recently, but I’m feeling fairly confident with Okudah. A good friend of mine is an Ohio State fan and he agrees that Oklahoma seems to be in the driver’s seat. Only time will tell, of course, but dang, NSD can’t get here fast enough

    • hOUligan says:

Not going to get too amped about Okudah making repeated visits to Norman, somewhat like a certain Oline recruit from OK who visited often only to sign w a Cali school. But I’m feeling good about him, too. Hope we’re right!

      • SamSooner says:

Morning, hOUligan. I believe Okudah really likes OU and SS17. The camaraderie of SS17 is powerful. I’ve read several comments where each of them feel like they are already teammates.

The “basket case” you’re talking about, who went to UCLA, was seeking attention. It was almost as if he was acting out, going against his parent’s wishes, just like a petulant brat.

      • Daryl says:

I know what recruit you are talking about because I know him personally. The big difference in him and Okudah is that said OL was not saying that Oklahoma felt like home. If you go back in his quotes he as “excited” about Oklahoma but didn’t use the same lingo. Also the area of education that he wanted to pursue is not as good at Oklahoma as it is in Cali. Lastly you no longer have Josh Heupel on staff. I think if Riley would have been hired earlier that he would have stayed Oklahoma but something about JH really rubbed him the wrong way.

        • Katyboomer says:

Us not offering his Bro have anything to do with it?

          • SamSooner says:

According to him, big brother. But according to little brother, it must not have been that important to play with big brother. Little brother had the UCLA offer but doesn’t appear to have committed to UCLA in 2016.

          • Katyboomer says:

Yeah, makes you wonder what went on behind closed doors with them and UCLA, once it was all said and done. UCLA would have been a great school for the Bro to get a great Ed.

          • SamSooner says:

Yep. Listen, I don’t wish ill of any kid. But something about an entitled behavior just rubs me wrong.

          • Katyboomer says:

Yeah, I am not a big fan of the two for one unless they are both great players and fit our needs.

          • cush creekmont says:

I understand completely Sam. But unfortunately for us “older” set, we may get badly “rubbed” quite often by the current generation.

          • UGA Sooner says:

I’m part of the current generation and even I get rubbed the wrong way by my peers

          • Brent says:

usually you have to pay extra for that

          • UGA Sooner says:

            I have the Switzer charm

          • Brent says:

there is ZERO chance i click on that link, but probably funny as hell

          • Mark_in_VA says:

It’s worth it! And then you can keep the link around for future use.

On the chance you’re worried about NSFW, it’s nothing like that at all. Just an audio play of the *tap-tap, splash* of a comedic rim shot.

          • Mark_in_VA says:

I don’t think so, or he was the biggest dupe in the world. Li’l bro didn’t sign with UCLA!

          • Daryl says:

No. His brother obviously did not end up going to Cali and it was never mentioned. He just loved the experience of California the academics and at one point his words were, “their staff has a direction that they all are following and are on the same page. That is something that stands out.” This was all during the shake up and he like Riley a lot but again I think it was just too late.

        • Bob Edwards says:

JH was rubbing me the wrong way by then. Loved him as a player, thought he was a good QB coach, but a OC? Meh. Bright guy but just seemed be something off about him once he got promoted to OC.

          • Mark_in_VA says:

I would amend that to great player and QB coach, but OC did not work for him (either by his own design or by meddling from the HBC) and when he focused on OC he seemed to let slip his duties as QB coach. If you look at this time here on the sideline as GA or QB coach, our QB play was in the stratosphere.

          • Bob Edwards says:

I think his problem as an OC is that he didn’t have a system. He had a collection of plays from the various OC’s he had worked under. That forced the players to always be learning different techniques for the play of the day. With LR the techniques are few at each position so they get a lot of repetition. The system lets the OC rearrange those to make a large number of different plays.

      • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Be nice Houligan, he had to work on his “brand” rather than most likely start for us as a freshman.

      • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

  • SamSooner says:

Morning, TFB Friends. UGA, that’s good news on Okudah.

    • hOUligan says:

Hey Sam. Top o’ the mornin’ TFBs! Football to all!!

hOUligan – I’m “violating” the “football” rule – just feel “wicked” after a day off. OP

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

    Morning all.

  • brainpimp says:

Good morning all. Had a busy weekend and especially yesterday. I’d like to introduce the newest sooner Holiday Leigh . Everyone is doing great. Especially ME!

  • Katyboomer says:

With all this QB talk today, I was thinking the other day about something Coach LR said played into him coming to OU. He said the amount of starting QB experience we had was a big factor. My, what a change in just one year. Now we have no experience at back up, but I love what we have on campus now and whats coming in the future!

    • ToatsMcGoats says:

Yup. Cody got drafted and Trevor is starting for the OU farm team. What a difference a season makes. I’m honestly looking forward to seeing Kendall in mop up duty this upcoming season. I think the kid looks incredible in his film.

      • Katyboomer says:

Yeah, and the QB we brought up from our farm system looks like he will be up for the task as well.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

True, but it should be just a one year problem.

Next year we’re likely to have Mayfield, Kendall, Murray, and Robison, all eligible to play, and hopefully we can keep some good balance going forward.

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

      Head to Aggie?

      • Katyboomer says:

I know this will not happen, but wouldn’t it be something if Kendall Briles ended up at Texas A&M next year.

        • ToatsMcGoats says:

All hating aside, what he did against NC in their bowl game was unexpected, to say the least.

      • SamSooner says:

        Out of the fire to….

    • Brent says:

that would really be a dumb move. he has kd cannon and other weapons to throw to for the next two years. after careful thought…i wholeheartedly endorse it.

      • JR says:

KD Cannon is going to leave after this season. Stidham will compete with Russell for this season.

    • Mark_in_VA says:

Question: *if* he does go JUCO, that removes any restrictions on where he signs afterward, no? That is, 1 year of JUCO, and he *could* sign without penalty at another XII school, right?

No, not advocating for OU. Mostly just curious about how deeply the salt could be pounded into BU’s wounds.

      • SamSooner says:

Yes, I believe you are correct, Mark.

However, if I’m Stidham, I’d consider NDSU right now. They have a winning tradition; plus, the just had a QB go in the first round. Pro scouts will be looking at NDSU closely the next couple of years: Stidham could produce there and still get into the NFL.

I believe he would have immediate eligibility.
