Sooner! With the MLB draft, I’m thinking Cody Thomas is gone?

Good morning everyone. I hope all had a great weekend!

  • Tony B says:

Okay this is surely a joke right? Even with all the dumb a$$ stunts that Bailer has pulled throughout this whole disgusting ordeal this would take the cake. They are really considering letting Briles return after a one year suspension. The fact that they are even voting on this is shows where their priorities are.

Just finished the Athlon preview. Got a good chuckle out of this one:
“At this point, we can all agree that Gary Patterson just has Stoops’ number.
Yes, TCU is just 1-3 against OU since the Horned Frogs joined the Big 12 in 2012.”
The TCU game typically makes me nervous because Patterson does well against Stoops, but they must have a different definition of having someone’s number.

Pulling for FSU tonight in Baseball. They win, the sEc will be skunked sending a team to Omaha.

Don’t worry I’m sure “record against the SEC” will still be used as a measuring stick.

Thanks Bob, just wiped off the tears as I was laughing so hard. I watched this in HS but it’s funnier today as it’s almost like being married. : )

  • 47 Straight OU Know says:

Goooood Monday morning fellow Brainiacs. ” It is another great day to be a SOONER”. What are the rules of the 12-2 of putting a stop to this Briles situation. Even if Bailer’s BOR votes to reinstate him, can the 12-2 as a whole vote to over rule this? If so and the 12-2 vote is to go ahead and reinstate him, surely would leave “NO DOUBT” where this conference is heading. When and where will this dumpster fire end? Now get out there and seize the day.

    • SoonerOracle737 says:

Good morning 47! Sadly, I’m not sure we have much of a say in Briles’ employment.

    • Bob Edwards says:

The problem the B12 and the NCAA both have is that what we are talking about are crimes and not rules violations. They don’t really have jurisdiction. There may be a moral turpitude clause somewhere, but those are kind of out of date these days.

      • 47 Straight OU Know says:

So basically we have to wait on the alphabet gang to sort this out?

        • Bob Edwards says:

The most likely scenario for major punishment for the university is that the victims file some sort of Title IX suit and Baylor loses its federal funding and receives hefty fines and payment of lawyers cost.
However, it is also likely that the NCAA will find some violations. If nothing else, by providing the players legal assistance they provided a benefit not available to other students in the school. They will probably find some way to stretch the rules so that they can be seen as doing something.

      • SoonerOracle737 says:

        Baylor has morals?

        • Bob Edwards says:

No, the question is whether the B12 has a morals clause in their bylaws.

          • Jed says:

And whether the Rangers have the cojones to bring criminal obstruction of justice charges, then to jail the scumbag.
Actually OofJ might be a tad light. Can we look at ‘Accessory After the Fact’?

          • Bob Edwards says:

Maybe just shoot him in the back and say he was trying to escape.

          • Jed says:

Well, we are talking Texas, so….

          • Dick Bump says:

I think the Texas AG is a Bailer grad. Besides he has his own set of problems at the moment.

      • Roy C says:

They should allow him to come back and be placed in a stock and let the Baylor ladies stone him!

  • Roy C says:

    If you are going to reseed the division’s each year, it shouldn’t be 1,3,5 . . and 2,4,6. . . It should be 1,4, 5 . . and 2,3 7. .The top seed shouldn’t be with the 3 seed.

  • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

So realistically, who’s our top remaining targets that we can land? Supposedly we’ve got 4 Schollys available. Seems to me like we’ve got more than 4 players who are really high on OU.

    • CW says:

We have more than that left, Im thinking 10 +

    • ccmosaic says:

There is no way we only take 18 in this class. I assume we will take 23-25 in this calss which means we have 9-11 more targets to take. We are fine number wise. Not sure where the number 18 keeps coming from.

    • Bob Edwards says:

The person who said we had four said that didn’t include transfers or leaving early for the NFL. I can think of at least three transfers and two that left early.

      • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

What 3 do you think transfer? I know it wasn’t counting those things, but still. It’s tight.

        • Bob Edwards says:

Well TK-9, Alex Ross and John Humphreys already have. They may have already used TK-9’s scholly but the other two announced after signing day.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

I guess I figured Dustin accounted for all of that before posting the 18 number, but I guess not.

          • Bob Edwards says:

Here is what Dustin said yesterday in the Hall post: “Not counting transfers and early NFL entries, we have 4 scholarships available for SS17. Time to get some beef.”

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

            Well then there you go.

          • Bob Edwards says:

Yea, I thought it odd for him to say it that way since you definitely need to count both of those to know the current state of our recruiting. That’s why it stuck in my head.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

I was playing golf and that’s when I saw his post so I think I just forgot that he had mentioned the fact he didn’t count transfers and stuff.

          • Bob Edwards says:

No biggy, but several others seem to have not caught it either. Just didn’t want a lot of unnecessary hand wringing over the fact that we “only had four left.”

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Oh for sure lol. I don’t want people freaking out for no reason lol.

          • j l says:

Would that number include byrd? hes the only one i can think of that left/got removed from the program.

          • Bob Edwards says:

I forgot about him. There may be others as well.

          • j l says:

It’s a lot of moving parts to keep up with for us outside the program.

    • hOUligan says:

I’ll give it a shot ‘best bets’. Zabie OT Humphrey C Rogers DL Watts DL Gumbs DE Hines and Phillips LB. Wilson still a long shot.

      • SamSooner says:

        What about Creed and Wilson?

        • hOUligan says:

Mornin Sam! Creed Humphrey. List is IMHO answer and think Rogers and Watts are most likely over Wilson. Hey Marvin!!! Prove me wrong!

          • SamSooner says:

            Morning, hOUligan!
Wilson would be a good pick up. Chris Daniels through a wrench in the plans. But, I believe that sets us up well for the future. This is a stacked DL.

      • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

I actually agree with all of those. Phillips is ours to lose IMO.

        • SoonerFan92 says:

I feel the same way about Phillips. What makes it even better is that he brought home the Linebacker MVP of the Rivals camp this weekend. That’s including a couple 5-Star LB’s like Browning. Pretty impressive!

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

For sure. I was amazed at how big he is already. He could easily Add 8-10 lbs of muscle and still move with fluidity.

          • SoonerFan92 says:

Oh yeah. He might make a big jump in the ratings (if you’re into that kind of thing) following this weekend. We’ll just have to wait and see.

    • Scott says:

      4 Schollys left. How?

      • Bob Edwards says:

That’s a misunderstanding some people got from something Dustin said yesterday. Read the rest of this thread, it’s discussed below.

      • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

        Don’t listen to me 🙂

  • hOUligan says:

Top o’ the mornin’ TFBs. Love waking up Sooner. And it’s a great day to be a Pens fan.

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

Does anybody have an educated guess on when Devin Duvernay might have a decision

    • SoonerinLondon says:

I guess he’s just waiting on the announcement that Briles will be back at Bailor.

      • jimintexas says:

You might be accurate about some of these players. Supposedly the vote is today.

    • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Once his brother is released. I think this will last another month or so. I have no idea though lol.

    • BoomCity89 says:

He made his decision as soon as he put on that nasty green jersey because that’s when he realized he needed a crimson and cream one.

  • Drew says:

Well, not really surprised by this. Seems Baylor still hasn’t learned anything:

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

    Morning all. BOOMER!

  • SoonerfanTU says:

If we are going to have a CCG with 10 teams, I really like the idea of re-seeding the divisions every year. Anything geographically split is going to be Oklahoma/Texas heavy. Re-seeding would, in theory, even this out a bit. Plus it is something that would get discussed a bunch with the sports guys, which is simply free press for the Big 12.

    • Bob Edwards says:

I like the idea, but might tweak it a bit. re-seed every 2-3 years. That prevents someone becoming a high seed based on one out of the ordinary year. But in either case it would prevent what happened to the B12 back in the 2000’s where the B12 south had three 11-1 teams and the north had no one close.

      • SoonerfanTU says:

The biggest problem I see with reseeding is it might be difficult to ensure teams in opposite divisions play earlier in the season, to avoid quick rematches in the CCG. But maybe they could make that work with the timing, not sure how soon future schedules (for Big 12 games) are typically set.

  • BleedCrimson says:

    82 DTG 3 All-Americans wore this number.
    Billy Brooks 73-75 AA, Steve Zabel 67-69 AA; Frankie Anderson 47-50 AA; Forrest Valora 78-80;

  • Bob Edwards says:

So Baylor isn’t even good at doing it wrong. If you are going to bring Briles back, you wait until no one is talking about it. Then release it quietly in a press release right after the Next Big Scandal® hits and everyone is talking about it.

    • SoonerinLondon says:

I’m still pretty skeptical that Bailor is really going to bring Briles back.

All that the coaches seem to have done to enable their players and they all stay? Really? I just can’t believe the school would think that was a good idea.

Who knows? We’ll see, I guess.

      • Bob Edwards says:

The fact that all the assistants are still there suggests that they are trying to keep it together. Those are the ones who would have direct knowledge of what’s going on. If you can’t get rid of them, it’s not far from there to bring back the head coach.

    • Boom says:

Unfortunately, the next big scandal will prolly be at Bailor.

      • Bob Edwards says:

Well that brings up a procedural issue. If more comes out, is that a new scandal or part of the old one? Inquiring minds want to know.

        • Jed says:

It’s an interesting point but akin to much of epistomology; that is to say, fodder for German intellectuals slowly dying of constipation. (see; Kant, Emmanuel).
I suppose the distinguishing point would be that of characterization of the offense; or, to be mundane, labelling.
If we are, once again, talking rape and the date range is roughly coincident, then I’d argue that it is all of a piece and a mere addition to the existing scandal.
If, on the other hand, we were talking about say heroin dealing/use/possession, home invasion or armed robbery, then it is something new.
This leaves a grey area, though. What about sex crimes that do not fall into the basic pattern of straight old fashioned rape? (ie, man on woman, roughly the same age, in generally ‘normal’ circustances). Probably a judgment call. Probably something that, having seen the behaviour of Baylor players, and coaches, and administrators, and law enforcement, we are to discover through empirical demonstration.

          • Bob Edwards says:

Interesting that you went with a discussion on epistemological grounds. If you were going with a philosophical approach of course this discussion lends itself to a discussion of ethics based on all that has happened at Bailer. Still we are discussing what is the nature of scandal which is more a metaphysical question than it is an epistemological one. But then we get into the argument as to whether metaphysics is necessary to ground epistemology or vise versa. And then when end up in Australia with a bunch of guys named Bruce.
            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_f_p0CgPeyA

          • Jed says:

I wasn’t trying to shoehorn this issue into epistomology, but rather to compare attempts to neatly characterize the ultimately banality of Baylor’s evil to what I regard as the pointlessness of epistomology.
The ethics of what went on at Baylor is much meatier but really follows a pattern we’ve seen many times before: the toxicity that results whenever religion and secular authority are mixed.

          • Bob Edwards says:

Well you definitely get points for bringing a discussion of epistemology into a football conversation.

          • Jed says:

Can the abstract expressionism of Baker Mayfield be far behind?
Truly a child of Jackson Pollock, Mayfield thrills the viewer with skating on the thin edge between virtuosity and utter disaster. When viewed against the Mondrian-esque zeitgeist of Bob Stoops, the raw Picasso-like near sexual force of Mike Stoops and Lincoln Riley’s obviously Dali-inspired now-you-see-me-now-you-don’t playfulness, Mayfield’s approach can be seen as a “synth-cretic” admixture of the main currents of 20th century artistic thought given life through the mind of a man-child of the 21st century.
A stinging indictment of a world he was never asked to join or a cris de couer of desperation, his stunning “2015” changes our world and leaves us breathless, awaiting the unveiling of the next stage in his epic triptych: the eagerly awaited “2016”.

Shall we play more? I’m thinking we could do this in the vein of obscure 1970’s punk rock. Perhaps stage the entire season as a reinactment of ‘Bring On The Nubiles’.

  • JB says:

Changing divisions each year…a good idea? Oh my gosh, what colossally stupid idea! That’s every bit as stupid as playing a round robin schedule and creating 2 meaningless 5 team “divisions”. This just makes the “divisions” even more meaningless. It won’t make us “fresh” or “exciting”, it will only make the insults and jokes told about us fresh and exciting.

I think it was Esco who said “It’s like these schools are trying to outdo each other on coming up with the dumbest ideas possible.” Truer words were never spoken.

  • BigJoeBrown says:

I watched Two Day’s in April on Netflix this past weekend and never knew it contained OU players. It’s a pretty cool watch, was a documentary about players preparing for the draft. There were 4 players that they followed and the two OU players were Travis Wilson and Clint Ingram. Pretty good watch for the offseason.

  • bommer85 says:

Down to two, Devin Duvernay weighs impactful Texas visit https://t.co/PSxIkmeIJj— RecruitingNation (@ESPNRNFball) June 13, 2016

    • bommer85 says:

Oklahoma out for Duvernay….kinda weird thought we were the leader

      • Malicong says:

I don’t know if OU was ever really in it. He is looking to bring his brother along with him and OU doesn’t make a habit of offering kids that are not good enough or don’t fit the system. There was smoke because of his relationship with Murray, but I think it was more fans reading too much into it than anything he had indicated.

        • bommer85 says:

he said oklahoma was his second choice behind Rape U…i had thought the same, if he was going to say it was a package deal between him and his brother OU would be out. I understand the thinking but he could have killed in Lincoln’s system

          • Malicong says:

I am still holding out hope he realizes the opportunity at OU vs Texsa and TCU, but sometimes people are loyal to a fault. He would be great in Riley system.

      • RocketCitySooner says:

Not so sure of that. ESPN is speculating that this statement: “I have finished my applications to Texas and TCU. I haven’t done one for OU.” That may be reading more into it than one should.

        • SoonerinLondon says:

Well, based on those two, you’d have to think TCU has proven to be able to do more recently. Wish we had a shot. (Maybe we still do?)

    • Dick Bump says:

I didn’t read it like that..i.e. OU’s out. The story is slanted that way but it is UT click bait.

  • SamSooner says:

Quick question folks: off topic: what is the best brand of smokers out there? Should I get an electric, gas, or traditional smoker?

    • RocketCitySooner says:

Saw a program, not a commercial, on the Food Channel. It was a basic, how to do smoking, and the host was the guy who was the M/C of the Iron Chef America. He said the best choice for an amateur not involved in competition was an electric smoker. He based this on the need to maintain a near constant, low temperature, environment during the smoking process.

I leave it to the experts as to the best choice.

    • metzker says:

      Master Built electric is good!

      • SamSooner says:

        Thanks, Metz.

This is a first: taking advice from you. LOL!

        • metzker says:

i got a gift certificate from a sub for academy and used it for the smoker. Its different and im still figuring it out .

    • hOUligan says:

If you’re looking for a grill/smoker, I’ve heard really good things about ‘Traeger’ and a couple of my neighbors had them and loved them. If straight up smoker, Metz has a good one.

    • 47 Straight OU Know says:

Afternoon Sam, I actually just bought the Masterbuilt Propane version. It was on sale a few weeks back at Tru Value for 89.99. Already smoked chicken, Ribs and a pork tenderloin. Never thought i would use a propane smoker. But i was rather surprised at how well it worked.

      • J.r. Kamm says:

        No problem with maintaining temperature?

        • 47 Straight OU Know says:

Not as of yet. My chickens were just as juicy and tasty as a charcoal/wood smoker. I thought the same exact thing before buying it. I set the knob in between medium and hi and it stayed constantly between 215-250. I was shocked.

          • J.r. Kamm says:

            Good to know. Thanks, 47!

          • 47 Straight OU Know says:

Anytime, J.r. Was actually going to do a Turkey next. I know its not the holidays but sometimes you just cant wait.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

We’ve been smoking our turkeys for the past 4 years. There really is no other way to do it. Inject it with butter and seasonings and good lord, you’ve got yourself a perfectly moist bird.

          • 47 Straight OU Know says:

How does it match up against Deep Fried? That is how i like mine, it is all about the injection!! (no pun intended) But Deep fried is hard to beat.

      • SamSooner says:

        Thanks, 47!

    • blaster1371 says:

Ummmm……. Without any context this could sound very suspect. Lol

    • SoonerOracle737 says:

I actually own a variety of different types of smokers/grills. One can do a variety of cooking / smoking techniques on a standard Weber Grill. I also have a very lare offset barrel smoker that does and outstanding job, but it’s tons of work since you have to check the fire religiously every 30 min. Lastly, I purchased a ceramic – type grill / smoker that is similar to the Green Egg. I smoked two chickens and two racks of ribs (all at once!) a couple of weekends ago and everybody raved about how good they were. The nice thing about ceramic cookers is that I only loaded the charcoal once and it lasted all day (10+ hrs) without need for more. The ceramic traps in heat very well. I bought mine at Home Depot. Highly recommended.

    • MoJoOkie says:

I’ve used charcoal and wood for most of my life. But lately I’ve been using a Masterbuilt electric. The Masterbuilt probably isn’t the best, but it accommodates my needs. For brisket or a boston butt or any other long term meat, it’s easy and the results are nearly automatic. I still get the smoke (it has a little mechanism to add wood without opening it) and being able to set the time and temp means that I can sit and visit, and drink a beer or three without having to hover over the cooking process. Just my $.02.

      • SamSooner says:

        Thanks, MoJo!

        • MoJoOkie says:

You’re welcome Sam. I’m kind of like 737, in that I’ve got a pretty good charcoal smoker, had a propane cooker, have a brick wood smoker that’s about 6′ x 4′ x 4′, but as time goes on I get lazier. The electric does a good job and it’s easy. Never developed the knack for the propane, and I hear the ceramics do a good job. I’ve just gotten to where I’d rather visit than cook. My youngest son comes over sometimes and I delegate him to the charcoal smoker if he’s in the mood. That’s probably the best method I know of.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

I love to cook too, but as I get older I don’t want to have to put too much effort into it anymore. Either electric or ceramic is the way to go for minimal effort and maximum visiting / drinking time. 🙂

          • jimintexas says:

I have had multiple stick burners, (one on a trailer). In my old age, I have gone all ceramic with Digiq. In fact they had a GreenEgg fest in McKinney a few weeks ago, and they always have the large they use in competition about 30% off. Bought my wife one, so she will leave my XL alone

Never did the pellets, but have friends who swear by their Cookshacks.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

Ceramic is new to me since I just bought one this spring to replace my 10th or 11th gas grill I had purchased over the decades. I’m just now getting the hang of precisely controlling temp by the air intakes and chimney damper. The Vision Kamado has such a wide variety of settings that you can get most any temp you want from 100 F all the way up to 700 F. Having that much control means you really have to experiment with all the dampers to get it just right. But when you do all that natural hardwood chunk charcoal burns forever. Lots of people set a brisket on there at night, adjust the dampers for perfect temp, and then go to sleep! You just can’t do that with a traditional non-electric smoker. I guess the automated pellet feed systems could do it. But still…it is like a miracle to me. I used to work my rear off on Thanksgiving and Christmas day smoking turkey / ham, etc. But no more. I’m liberated now! 🙂

          • jimintexas says:

I am not trying to sell the things, but if you put a Digiq on your ceramic, it will keep it within a couple of degrees for 15 hours and shut the lower down, when the meat reaches the temperature you have programmed in.

It has made a lazy man out of me and I am ok with that.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Rightfully so. It’s annoying when you can’t control the temp and keep a steady temp. No one should have to babysit their meat regardless of what your smoking.

          • jimintexas says:

That was what I am told happened to Pulliam’s. The son did not have the discipline that the old man did to keep his product consistent. Man that was a great place to go. When I was working my way through college, I worked at a place which was located in what is now called Brick Town. I would go to Pulliam’s usually once a week, for some ribs.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Consistency is key. What part of McKinney are you in? I lived in McKinney and was supposed to go to Boyd but I grew up going to Frisco schools so I went to Liberty.

          • jimintexas says:

I actually live in NE Tarrant County. My wife and I go to McKinney everyone in a while for a mini trip. We buy olive oil and flavored vingars at Kitchenware on the Square. And the wife love Hutchins. But, I think it is as much for the desserts as the Q. It is just a good place to visit. I am originally from MWC, OK. My dad an an uncle came up from Kelly AFB, when they built Tinker.

Ahhhh, ok. My mom loved old town McKinney. She was always shopping around those antique shops.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

I have never seen that attachment before. Very cool, er, I mean hot. Thanks for the tip.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Pellets are nice and they seem to create more smoke ( in my experience) but I still prefer the wood.

          • SamSooner says:

I appreciate it. I’m just looking an easy consistent method of cooking. In addition, I want to be able to smoke different kinds of meats at the same time.

          • Boom says:

The Traeger is cool cause I set it early saturday morning during football and in the afternoon we are all eating outside watching ball games. Also, you can take it anywhere and plug it in. I would say about 35 of my friends have these and love’em. Sorry for being redundant.

          • SamSooner says:

            Traegar has an electric smoker?

          • Boom says:

            Yes

          • SamSooner says:

            Cool!

    • Bob Edwards says:

      Cigar.

    • J.r. Kamm says:

Thanks for raising the topic. I’ve been looking for one myself.

      • SamSooner says:

No problem. I’ve been looking to get one. Father’s Day is Sunday. I need to make a suggestion. Hint, hint.

    • ouwooferman says:

I have a weber with a small smoke box that you can use for smaller projects. Gas fireed. I also have a traditional barrel smoker. if you go with the barrel smoker, dont skimp get atleast 1/8″ thick. Tends to hold heat more evenly than the thinner. I like the “work” that goes into the this, plus you can cook more at once. Remember when you mix meats to have the biggest animal on top. Cow over pig over fowl. You cant be to careful with contamination.

    • Boom says:

Traeger for electric. Best I’ve come across.

    • Dick Bump says:

PK (Portable Kitchen) charcoaler. Made in America. I bought mine in 1970, still going strong, although I got a new PK for a birthday present.

      • SamSooner says:

Thanks, Dick! I’ll check it out.

        • Dick Bump says:

You can order them through Home Depot ($370- my 1970 version was $30+). They don’t stock them. PK has a web site. Great grills. They have been highly rated by the competition barbecue types for years.

    • jimintexas says:

You will find all types of opinions. You first have to define what you are calling a smoker. For me it depends. Traeger is the big name in pellet smokers. Cookshack would be a good higher end choice. There is a big difference in quality of pellets.

Big Green Egg, with a Digiq works great and is more flexible. There is a Cast Iron unit made in Georgia, that works great with a Digiq, but it is so heavy that Texas is about as far west as you find them. It is Golden Cast Iron Smokers

If you want a stick burner, that is a complete discussion on it’s own.

      • SamSooner says:

Jim, thanks. I know Golf swears by Traegar. Masterbuilt has been mentioned a lot on here. I’m going to research. I was trying to establish a baseline.

        • jimintexas says:

You need to first determine a budget. Do you want to smoke and grill on the same unit. You can acquire a Traeger or Masterbuilt + a good grill for less than an egg or Golden. The PK will work well, but you have to learn how to use in-direct, which limits you, but may stay well within what you want to do. And again, is a lost less than other options.

If you don’t have a budget and understanding what you want to do. It can be confusing. The ceramics have their own benefits and challenges, but can be more flexible. They are more expensive

    • Pat3332 says:

For a combination grill/smoker, I like Traeger, but I have used a Cookshack electric smoker for several years and I can’t think of one better. I am prejudiced however, plus they’re made in Ponca City.

      • jimintexas says:

Some Cookshack models are used in competition. The cookshacks that are pellet eaters are allowed, because you are cooking with wood. Again, there is a big difference in pellets. As you said, the Traeger is more flexible

    • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

BGE! My apartment complex won’t allow me to have mine on my balcony ?

    • Matt says:

I don’t know how Marquise Hayes does as a pulling blocker but he doesn’t look super athletic. I love watching him hold his own against the big name DL though. I think he’d be a great get, supposedly the Sooners are showing interest. It really sounds like Jacob Phillips would be a big time pickup too. They need to land him.

    • hOUligan says:

Give me Greg Rogers on D and Chuck Filiaga OT. Really like Rogers. Please, please get Mr. Rogers to OU.

      • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Everything I read said Rogers looked a step behind. Hopefully he just had an off day and that’s not everyday thing.

        • hOUligan says:

Haven’t read anything about his ‘challenge’ perf but from past vids and the couple of series in the above vid, he blows through his ‘man’ w/ a great 1st step. Good strength and balance, too.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

I noticed that as well when watching videos. Makes me wonder why those comments were made. I still think he’s a man child and I want him on our roster for sure.

          • hOUligan says:

All the size and strength in the world won’t help if you don’t have ‘feet’. The one exception might be for a zero tech who is just a fireplug. Rogers has feet and then some.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

He seems to get beat when his feet are out of position which directly affects his leverage. Good college coaching should help with those things. He’s still so raw.

      • Fear The Magic says:

        Agree on both

    • Boom says:

How bout a little Cam Akers, dude has quicks. Bandy being Bandy.

  • blaster1371 says:

Someone said in the open post comments that by thier count OU had four scholarships left for 2107 class. If that’s accurate I hope OU gets in in a few DTs.

    • Bob Edwards says:

It’s not accurate. It did not include transfers or early entries into the NFL.

      • Dustin says:

This. We know there will be some transfers and probably a couple early entries. A conservative estimate would give us about 8-10 spots available. Nothing to worry about.

        • Bob Edwards says:

I know we have had Ross, TK-9 and Humphreys transfer and Sanchez and Alexander leave early. Though I think TK-9 transferred early enough that we probably already used his scholly. There will probably be a couple of other transfers along the way.

          • Dustin says:

Seven legitimate early entries on the team IMO

          • Bob Edwards says:

I was thinking about the ones that declared this year. But you are right for ’17 it’s the ones that declare right before NSD. Though the coaches may know far enough in advance it makes it hard to include their schollies in ’17 if they wait until the date to declare. That’s why it is always so hard to know how many spots we actually have available. The coaches probably know more than we do. That’s why I usually don’t get into the “why are we still recruiting at X.” Since often the coaches know someone will be gone by signing day.

          • Dustin says:

            Yep. I agree with this.

    • JR says:

Based on current scholarship numbers, (without any additional transfers or early entry to NFL) there is 6 more available.

      • Dustin says:

Curious how you have 6. I see 80 scholarships as of now with 13 seniors listed. 14 current commits brings us to 81 for ’17. Not arguing, just thought we could compare notes.

    • soonerborn says:

OU has 22 outgoing seniors, plus underclassman that declare early, and plus transfers I think they take 25.

  • CrimsonNative says:

From the latest 5 star challenge.
    Tre Brown has
done almost the full circuit of the Rivals Camp Series this spring,
attending the Dallas Rivals Camp, the iLLSPEED finals in Baltimore and
getting the invite to the Five-Star Challenge. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound
Oklahoma commit is known as a burner, and that has masked some of his
deficiencies in the past. He has a tendency to get stuck in his turn,
and change of direction is an area of needed improvement. In a setting
where every wide receiver has excellent top-end speed, those
    shortcomings caught up with him.

  • metzker says:

That one tall OT had a mean streak in him, looked like he wanted a fight!

    • hOUligan says:

More information needed. None looked to be ‘vertically challenged’.

      • Cav66 says:

I think he is referring to Obinna Eze. He looked like he wanted to fight everyone. Might be some spirited trash talk mixed with a little bit of mean streak.

        • hOUligan says:

Eze definitely has some ‘tude, which is good but he looks like a PF waiting to happen. That Cade Mays kid had some nasty in him, too, but more controlled.
