  • Mike Reed says:

I wonder who the Baylor recruit is that they have denied releasing from his letter of intent?

    • Dick Bump says:

Could be one of several wanting out.

I have read 7 recruits want releases that are refusing to enroll. BHC stated he would not consider anything till he meets with them individually. If they still feel the need, then they will have to follow the official NCAA process. Two JC transfers have left and there are two early enrollees that want out.

I see Carlson can still write an article and say nothing. Between KJ and TRob, any of us could put out better info than she does. Thanks TFB for actually producing information!

    Happy Friday! Boomer!!!!

  • Indy_sooner says:

ICYMT . We haz a TE finally. Dude will be a savage in LR offense
    https://twitter.com/SportsRecruits/status/737731729293615105

    • Bob Edwards says:

I thought Andrews was our TE. Calcaterra seems to be in the same mold. I think we are going to have to get used to the fact that the Riley offense doesn’t really have a TE in a traditional sense. TE now is a big WR.

      • blaster1371 says:

Yep. They will line up an extra tackle for their “heavy set” or just have those H back kind to seal the edge.

      • Boom says:

I’m sitting next to Muhammad 2018 TE from TX who is going to the Rivals 5 star camp this weekend. M. Wilson is across the isle and they both know I’m a sooner fan and they both smiled and said – great program. Flight from houston to atlanta

        • Indy_sooner says:

Go get em’ Boom. Bonue points if you’re rockin’ that OU gear

        • soonerthunder says:

Boom (or Brown, anyone who follows recruiting closer than I do), where do you think these guys end up:

Duvernay, whom briles calls “the fastest guy in U.S.A. that plays football,” 10.25 100m jr yr and reigning state champ, and

Hudson, #1 rated guard prospect whom briles called “the strongest player in America”, a powerlifter who finished 2nd his jr HS season squatting 690lbs, benching 395, dead-lifting 715, and

Bowen, 6-4, 235, reigning state high jump champion jr yr jumping 6-7 w/little training and they think c/jump 6-10 or better his sr year.

          • Stephen Dale says:

Duvernay ? whichever school will scholarship his brother and himself, possibly OU /TCU ; Hudson ? most likely UT. Bowen ? TCU/OU/UT all after him…..any of these guys could also wind up in the SEC….

      • Indy_sooner says:

It’s a flex position, really. He’s not gonna see a bunch of catches every single game but will definitely create mismatches.

        • Bob Edwards says:

I agree. It’s just a lot of people, when they hear TE, think lineman with decent hands.

    • kt-raida says:

I was hoping Mcnamara would be Gresham 2.0. Just didnt work out.

  • Cory Reedy says:

Can’t wait to get to Norman this fall and see the new stadium upgrades.

  • Bob Edwards says:

I want to say I am in favor of the OU-UT in difference divisions concept. The only differences is I would put UT in one division and us in the SEC West or the B1G West.

    • SamSooner says:

      Bob, good morning.

Do you think OU is about to bolt or will they listen to Bowlsby and partake in the use of snake oil.

      • Bob Edwards says:

I think the $300 Million in lost revenue will keep us here for a while, unless Boren can find a way to break the GOR. I think he is trying to ‘fix’ it right now because he doesn’t have another choice that wouldn’t cost more money than he has to play with.

        • jimintexas says:

Bob, I think you are right. But, if the B12 becomes less favorable in public eyes and it starts to look like the old SWC, (no matter how many teams we add). And you have a couple of good teams and some also-ran teams over the next few years, The cost benefit may become more favorable.

Until that time, he may be boxed in, financially

          • Bob Edwards says:

One thing is that, since the cost is lost revenue, the cost goes down the closer we get to the end of the GOR. I can see us leaving before the end of the GOR, just not this much before unless we find an out to the GOR.

        • SoonerinLondon says:

          This.

Still wants the B1G, if we can get an invitation and financially survive the GOR issue.

      • metzker says:

Ok Sam i mixed up the exit list!

          • SamSooner says:

          • SamSooner says:

That probation isn’t going anywhere, anytime soon.

          • cush creekmont says:

But, Sam, you gotta’ admit, he’s getting “the public” on his side. And now, Brandon – I see some clever PR firm behind this. Not sure how much this is costing him, but it may be working….

          • SamSooner says:

No one, I mean no one, will forgive Metz for climbing to the mountain top, using a megaphone, announcing a false OP. OPs are coveted around here. A false OP declaration is unforgivable.

      • cush creekmont says:

        Sam! Sooner-up your friday!

      • Stephen Dale says:

Boren isn’t moving OU anywhere….isn’t going to happen on his ‘watch’….Doesn’t make any difference what we fans may think is best, king David has surveyed his fiefdom and declared ‘all is good’ in Little 12 land’….His most recent press conference in Dallas referenced his happiness with the direction of the league, its financial strength, etcetc……Until / Unless OU finishes its GOR contract, I don’t see a move anywhere.. king david has said as much.

    • BoomCity89 says:

I just don’t see how you can have Iowa State and Kansas in the same division for football, those are easy W’s. But if it’s going to happen, I’m glad there’s a good chance it will be in our division ha.

      • StL Sooner says:

With a round robin schedule, every team has to (or gets to) play ISU and KU anyway. It does make for an easier path to division champ that’s for sure.

    • jimintexas says:

      I would vote for that

    • StL Sooner says:

Bob, how did you feel a few years ago when there was talk of OU going to the SEC? I have to confess, I wanted no part of that slimy sewage pool. I know the revenue would be great, but I HATE the SEC as much as texsa. Everything bad about college football seems to be amplified by the SEC.
I sure wish I could wake up from my current nightmare (Big 12-2) and the Big 12 would be alive and well and thriving. I know we can’t go back, but a guy can dream, right?
texsa should be charged with sodomy for what they have done to this conference!

      • ouwooferman says:

        Well done sir!

      • jimintexas says:

You are correct. But, I don’t think they can help themselves. They are who they are

      • Bob Edwards says:

I have mixed feelings. First I live in Alabama so being in the SEC has personal advantages.
Second, I think the SEC’s sins are overstressed and the B12’s ignored in these situations. Is anything going on in the SEC really worse than what is happening at Baylor? The problems you are talking about are everywhere not just the SEC
At least in the SEC they make sure everyone gets their piece of the ever expanding pie. In the B12, Texsa gets to eat all they want and then we fight the other kids for scraps.

        • StL Sooner says:

I was so upset when Missouri left the Big12. It was a 1 1/2 hour road trip every other year to see my Sooners! Now Iowa State at night, in November is my “treat”. Anything to see my Sooners!
The SEC just feels “dirty” to me. Perception is not necessarily reality, but to a person, how you feel is how you feel. Even if others don’t agree. I hate the arrogance that is the SEC!
I know that there are crimes at every university, just as there are crimes in every city. Some are worse than others and some handle the situations better than others.

Baylor is Baylor. Their history is quite disturbing. Their men’s basketball program, their football program, they may have been the first women’s basketball team to have a man play (sorry to offend anyone, I was not a BG fan) and who knows what else.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

I hate being out west and only getting to see one game a year. Next year I’m getting to see two games. My sis goes to UH and she’s graduating next year so my parents are covering the cost for all of us to go to that game then I’m going to the tOSU game. Joining the PAC would help me out a lot since LA is so close and same as the Arizona schools, but I really don’t wanna join the PAC for anything but those reasons lol.

        • Stephen Dale says:

ON TARGET ^^^^^^^^…….besides, OU has established rivalries with Vandy, Arky, Mizzou, Alabama, aTm, LSU, and now Auburn…demographically and geographically, the SEC makes more sense than PAC 12 or B1G ……

      • cheezyq says:

Personally I didn’t want in the SEC for a variety of reasons. But there was a proposal floating around that put OU/OSU/A&M/UT in the Pac-12, and I was all for that. The moment I heard it I thought it would be awesome to have Arizona/Az State in the same division as us and have interesting cross-division matchups with the California schools, etc. Plus, with USC, UCLA, etc. the league wouldn’t be so weak as to constantly bow to whatever Texass wanted. Seemed like a great fit to me.

        • StL Sooner says:

I was more interested in the PAC at that time too. Would be some great road trips for sure!

          • Stephen Dale says:

travel expenses and time zone differences would be a problem. Neither Utah , either Arizona school, or U of Cal wanted OU admitted–is the last I read on the subject.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Utah wasn’t even in the conference last time they were taking votes on this subject lol.

          • Stephen Dale says:

ok…..neither Arizona school or the U of Cal for sure……not sure about Colorado. in any event, PAC 12 Prez didn’t have enough affirmative votes to take OU……and honestly, PAC 12 isn’t my choice either…much rather see OU look east towards the SEC where demographic and geographic relevance comes into play for the Sooners……

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

I thought we were denied because of academics. Funny because both Arizona schools have very low standards for their school. Either way I couldn’t care less because I know if we leave its for the BIG or the SEC.

          • Stephen Dale says:

I don’t remember the reason why OU was voted against but it probably wasn’t academics anymore that those schools feared a greater OU encroachment into the Cali /Ariz recruiting grounds……why give OU more legitimacy than its history already provides ? Nobody in the PAC 12 could match it–certainly not either Arizona school or the Cal Bears.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Oh for sure. I was thinking it was academics because the UC system has some real solid schools in UCLA and Cal then throw in USC and Standford, plus UW isn’t bad in academics either.

        • DrewChubbs says:

I never felt the Pac was a good fit for us. Culturally speaking, we have nothing in common (for the most part). That’s a big reason why Colorado seemed a good fit for them. I’m much more excited about playing SEC games than I am B1G games. However, I certainly have reservations about either of those moves as well.

I do think we share a lot more in common with teams (and people) in the SEC (as much as I hate to admit it) and ACC. But that’s just my view.

Given my choice, I’d pick the best from the ACC and the good Big 12 partners and make a 4 Power conference to be reckoned with. After that my preferences would be join the ACC, SEC, or lastly the B1G.

          • cheezyq says:

That’s actually what I liked about it – it was different and unexpected, and would open up an entirely new culture to OU games. I thought it would just make OU a more compelling national brand, elevate our status in a lot more ways than just football.

There’s only ONE thing that SEC is known for – football at all costs. And that’s fine, I guess. But I just see OU as being above all that now. I think in a lot of ways we’ve gotten out of our own shadow, football-wise, and the OU brand stretches across multiple sports and academia as well.

I love OU football, but I also love OU basketball just as much. That’s just me, I’m better at basketball than football, so I might have a greater appreciation for good OU basketball than probably a lot of OU-resident fans do.

Now…geographically, and probably in a lot of other ways…yeah, it would be a challenge. But I guess I like that challenge. I like the opportunities that a Pac alliance would have presented.

Anyway, it was just a personal thing I wanted to see. I think Pac strikes a better balance between making sure members are equals, but still preserving rivalries without crossing the line to cheer for teams I hate. I just hate the idea of the S-E-C chant. I’m all for a strong cohesive conference…but not at the expense of rooting for LSU. (barf)

That said, I’m so frustrated with the Big Texas conference at this point, I’d be willing to consider becoming an SEC fan.

          • DrewChubbs says:

Those are some really good points, and I don’t necessarily disagree with them. I probably should’ve mentioned in my post that I just don’t see the conference embracing OU wholeheartedly, and I also don’t see the fan base embracing the Pac the same way. Like, “Yeah, we’re in the Pac, but we’re not really Pac.” But for that matter, I can see similar circumstances in any conference except the Big12. That being said, I do think we will add to any conference we become a part of. There is little doubt that most of our programs will compete no matter where we go, and that exposure will help our brand grow.

Undoubtedly, this conference movement, should it happen, will be rooted in the football program. That is why i feel that the SECi s where we might find the best fit, short of merging with other programs and starting a new conference.

    • soonerinks says:

Here’s the thing. Think about how excited we would be with an SEC foe every week on the schedule and then think about your level of excitement versus the B1G teams. To me it is a no brainer, I would take the SEC competition hands down.

      • Bob Edwards says:

From a football perspective I agree with you. There are other considerations, and that is where the B1G comes in.

        • soonerinks says:

True, but football is king. Also, the level of competition with softball, gymnastics, baseball would also be greatly improved. Basketball, not so much. In my mind, academic standing is the only plus the BiG has going for it and the federal grants that might bring.

          • Bob Edwards says:

I agree. I would prefer the SEC, but I would be OK with the B1G. For one thing we would raise the quality of their football. And I put either over staying in the same conference with UT.

    • cush creekmont says:

Fine notion, Bob. My only better plan would be to have texsa play in a THEIR OWN separate league – They already think they are better than everyone. They can play themselves over and over and be undefeated.

    • Stephen Dale says:

      absolutely……

    • hOUligan says:

I like it … a lot. But then, I’m one of those not especially keen on getting into the mud w/ the sec. Would rather B1G.

Good morning fellow Brainiacs. “It is another great day to be a SOONER” Now get out there and seize the day. And I was thinking of that new catch phrase, how about “It is another fine day to hate TEXSA” Also how would it affect the CCG if they do expell Bailer from the conference?

  • SamSooner says:

Good morning, TFBers. I hope everyone has outstanding plans this weekend.

Metz, I found this yesterday. My brother and I went to a record store that sells/exchanges used vinyl and CDs. I saw this:

    Howdy folks

  • scott carroll says:

I think everyone needs to relax. I’m having withdrawals too. Labor Day Weekend will be here before we know it!

  • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Does anyone in the know, know what Big Marvin Wilson means when he says ” big announcement June 11th”? Is he going to be releasing his top15 top10 or top5? Lol. I personally can’t get excited until I see OU in at least a top 5 or 3. Anything beyond that and it’s just meh.

  • Bob Edwards says:

Employee surveys – Proof that intelligence is limited, but stupidity knows no bounds.

    • SamSooner says:

It’s just something to cross off on a list of things to be crossed off.

      • Bob Edwards says:

The problem is that our new overlords make changes based on the results. But this particular survey showed that they don’t understand the issues just by the questions they are asking.

        • SamSooner says:

          Exactly.

        • SoonerOracle737 says:

We have surveys at my place of work too. I get the distinct feeling that they don’t want to ask the pertinent questions on purpose. But yet, they get “credit” for having a meaningless survey that ultimately puts into place Dilbertesque policies that no one wants.

          • Bob Edwards says:

Always remember, Dilbert is not a cartoon it is a documentary.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

We actually had a guy on staff that would email Scott Adams with our “corporate speak” decisions within the company and he would make cartoons out of them. I forget how many, but our company should have been paid royalties from it! Sigh….

        • Dick Bump says:

Sometime surveys seem to be structured to justify a decision that has already been made, just not announced or implemented. Not that anyone would do anything like that.

    • ouwooferman says:

      anonymous surveys….Right.

    • Lincoln Hawk says:

Note to self, never send out surveys to employees. Thanks!

      • Bob Edwards says:

I wouldn’t say never, but make sure you have spent enough time talking to the people involved to make sure you understand the issues involved. Asking a question “how do we improve X” when most people think X is the problem is a good way to destroy morale and increase turnover.

      • Bob Edwards says:

        • SamSooner says:

          Yep, spot on, Bob.

        • Lincoln Hawk says:

I pretty much just ask people face to face, we only run around 30 employees at a time and most of them are out in the field building stuff. I appreciate the advice though.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

Sam Walton used to do that too. All the time. He felt like he could get the real story if he went and talked to front line workers instead of middle managers trying to CYA.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

I would agree with that. Everybody has their own input and issues, nice to get the whole story.

          • Bob Edwards says:

No you are doing it right. I work for a big company. We were small, but got bought out by a big company. They thought we were very much like them because we are both government contractors. They mostly do construction and civil engineering, we do high tech. We are different in almost every way imaginable in our day to day jobs. Their one size fits all, top down management style just doesn’t work with us, but they doing surveys rather than talking to people and so only get the answers they want.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

Ewww, do they use words like “synergy” all the time? LOL. Well hopefully they will wise up and try a new approach. I hear about that happening quite a bit when larger corporations take over the family owned or private companies.

          • Bob Edwards says:

I haven’t heard synergy, but almost every other buzz word has come up. I think they are trying but the disconnect between the two corporate cultures is so great that they don’t know what it is they don’t know.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

Do they know that they don’t know what they don’t know?

          • Bob Edwards says:

            No

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

Hope it gets better for you Bob.

          • Malicong says:

It gets even worse working for a Catholic non-profit transitioning from local clergy running the show to a large but still “non-profit” conglomerate with a CEO focused solely on money.

          • hOUligan says:

I like it. I know it doesn’t always work but in a perfect world … in my division I tried and was successful in fostering that type of environment where anyone could walk into my office at anytime and lay out a problem as long as they then laid out a solution. That was pretty much my byline – “don’t bring me problems, bring me solutions”. When I asked ‘how’s it going’, I meant it and could usually ‘see’ how it was going before I ever asked.

          • Bob Edwards says:

I have been around enough to see that what you are doing works. The other key as organizations get bigger, is to make sure that the responsibility for execution matches the authority to make change. Too often managers push responsibility down, but don’t push the authority with it. So in order for the guy to meet his responsibilities he’s constantly have to go several levels up to get a decision made. If you are in a fast paced environment it will kill you after awhile.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

Very well said and people appreciate being able to talk to a superior in an informal setting. It’s funny how many problems people will bring that they 100% are capable of handling, maybe it is just not being confident in their decision making skills? I rarely get mad or yell, I prefer to teach. My Father in Law is a successful businessman, and one line I always remember he says is “Show me the baby”. He doesn’t have to know all the little details and such, just wants the results by the operations and procedures that are in place.

          • hOUligan says:

“Show me the baby”. Yup. There are many ways to achieve the desired results…do it the way you are most comfortable as long as it is effective i.e.: time and $$$. I like to let people be successful doing it their way, not necessarily the way I would have done it.

          • Bob Edwards says:

Either of you need a software engineer that can work remotely from North Alabama? 🙂

          • hOUligan says:

Retied now, Bob…but I am certain anyone here can recognize your talents and how you would be an asset to any organization.

          • Bob Edwards says:

Yeah, as frustrating as it can be my direct boss is pretty easy to work for. And given the other things going on in my life the stability is good. I get lot’s of interest in my resume but they either want me to work contract, move to somewhere else, or pay me like I have five years experience when i have thirty.

          • hOUligan says:

I’ve seen you are a man who has faith and you trust that you are led where you are needed and can do the good work. Hope things are falling into place for you and your wife these days.

          • Bob Edwards says:

Things are falling into place. We have buyers for the house and am pretty much unpacked. The only big thing that is left is convincing my wife that I really don’t care what goes on the walls.
Her health is up and down, but that is the nature of where things are. I probably am grumbling too much about the corporate stuff. All things considered I have been blessed a lot more than I deserve concerning the job situation.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

Sorry Bob, we don’t have a high demand for that in my particular field. However, there may be some on here that may!

          • Bob Edwards says:

I was halfway joking. Most days it’s not bad. Local management is good, but it was one of those days where the corporate beast showed its ugly head.

          • metzker says:

    • ouwooferman says:

You go to OU to be a superstar. You go to OSU so you can pretend.

    • hOUligan says:

Some good people working their media department. But, in the end, it’s really about relationships. If Hines feels it w/ the OU coaches and his mates on SoonerSquad17 and the proximity to home, he’s going to pick OU. He can have success anywhere. If in the end he’s wowed by flash … OU doesn’t need that kind of SA.

      • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Exactly. We can wine and dine these kids all we want, buts it’s about sending players to the pros and proving to kids that if you come to OUr school you can win championships.

    • KJ1123 says:

“Ex-Ohio State recruit claims he decommitted after Urban Meyer didn’t recognize him” I agree with the other reply’s, all about the relationships. I think our relationship with Hines is much better.

      • Daryl says:

I agree that we have a great relationship and that is the biggest keys. I wasn’t saying the graphics alone would be the difference but use great program, great coaches, facilities, and stuff like these graphics and edits. Put it all together to get these guys.

Several Tulsa area L stores have single bottles now. Last year, they sold out in two days. While I like the taste, it has such high alcohol that you can’t have several at a time and stay upright.

          • Walter Sobcek says:

            I want.

          • Bob Edwards says:

In the case of coffee you just have to get good coffee. If it starts life in a can in ain’t good.

          • ouwooferman says:

No but if it sends you to the can, then it is good.

          • DrewChubbs says:

What about the plastic tubs/jars it comes in now days?

          • Bob Edwards says:

Once coffee is roasted its starts to lose the volatile oils that give it much of it’s taste. When it is ground up it loses it much faster. Ideally you want the coffee roasted and ground as close to when you brew it as possible. The big coffee producers just buy coffee from a whole bunch of different sources and mix them together. Each plantation has a unique tasting coffee, but when you mix them all together the taste flattens out. For the best coffee you want the beans from a single source and then roasted locally and ground right before you brew it.

          • cush creekmont says:

Can’t get it roasted locally, but I only get whole beans and air mail from Hawaii (Kona). I keep it in sealed containers, refrigerated, and then grind the beans just before brewing. Wonderful taste. I usually go with light roast in summer and dark roast in winter. I know it costs more, but it is so much better than stuff in the store.

          • Bob Edwards says:

There is a place here in Huntsville with their own roaster. They have beans from a number of different places. Until a guy I worked with turned me on to the premium coffees I would always dump enough sugar and creamer into it that I couldn’t taste the coffee. Now I just drink it black. The way I get it is more expensive than Folgers but not as much as I expected when I first started.

          • cush creekmont says:

Exactly. There is a LOT of flavor in coffee without the adds. The regions (like wine) and the varieties give one a vast choice. I have a close friend that is a tea connoisseur. He can tell you a hundred nuances of tea flavor that I cannot – it’s okay by me, but I guess I AM a coffee guy.

          • Bob Edwards says:

There are like a hundred different nuances of coffee listed on the taste charts. Being a programmer mine is in binary.

            0 – Bob no like
            1 – Bob Like

          • cush creekmont says:

Perfect way to look at it. In the end, we all are binary once we leave home and don’t have to “clean your plate.”

          • ouwooferman says:

If you ever have the chance, try Jamaican Blue. So Smooth.

          • cush creekmont says:

Yes. I’ve had it. It is very good, but my personal little taste buds still prefer Kona (cheaper than JBM).

          • Dick Bump says:

            How about Kopi Luwak?

          • cush creekmont says:

Never tied it. That “previously digested” part makes me a little nervous. Still, if there was a “tasting” I would give it a try.

          • Dick Bump says:

At $70 a lb. you’d hate to find all you have is a crappy taste in your mouth.

          • cush creekmont says:

“crappy” may be more than metaphoric in this case 🙂

          • Jed says:

You’d love Ca Phe Chon, Vietnamese civet coffee. The beans are collected from the dung of civets and then freshly ground to produce the world’s most prized coffee. There is certainly something unique about it. An indefinable aroma? A slight curl at the edge of the flavor profile? Whatever it is that takes place during that 18~24 hours in the gut of the civet is special and yields the most expensive coffee on earth.

And the little sister, cafe au lait enjoyed in big tin cups at the croissant carts down by the river in Saigon, ain’t bad either.

          • metzker says:

Bob,is there anything you dont know?

          • cush creekmont says:

Metz, you should know by now – he’s a renaissance man. It makes conversation much more fun to have someone that knows many things.

          • Bob Edwards says:

I just have a good memory and a very inquisitive mind. I like to understand how things work. Which got me into a lot of trouble as a kid when I would take things apart to see how they worked.

          • cush creekmont says:

Yes. Even getting older, I still love to read new science or history changed by new discoveries (amazing how many things we were taught as “scientific fact” that have been refuted or at least modified).

          • paganpink says:

Yep. Steady state universe. No one but a crazy Christian would believe the universe started out of nowhere in a giant big bang!

          • metzker says:

Well tell stupid people man isn’t causing global warming!

          • Bob Edwards says:

You’re not keeping up. They no longer say global warming, it’s global climate change.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

Whatever fits the narrative at the time.

          • metzker says:

            So true Hawk,pisses me off.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

Don’t let them steal your joy Metz!

          • Bob Edwards says:

I remember when I was a kid the scientific consensus was that we were heading into a new ice age. Now scientific consensus is global warming. Who knows what it will be in another thirty years. Pardon me if I don’t use scientific consensus as the single basis for truth. Science is a helpful tool, but we have to be careful about what it can and can’t tell us.

          • Brent says:

I would be happy if they just had one predictive model that was correct in the last 30 years.

          • Bob Edwards says:

I would be happy if they could predict the weather three days from now.

          • Brent says:

exactly…weather and climate are probably the two most non-linear trends out there.

          • Bob Edwards says:

Actually the mathematics of Chaos Theory would lead us to believe that the weather is fundamentally unpredictable.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

You just blew my mind Bob.

          • Bob Edwards says:

Actually is predictable if you have perfect knowledge of all the initial conditions and you have the right equations and all the coefficients are accurate to say a few thousand decimal points. Basically, if you are omniscient.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

So you are basically saying if you are Elohim? LOL

          • Bob Edwards says:

            That would be correct.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

Wx is governed by the set of Navier-Stokes equations. In practice, they are too complex to solve analytically so they must use computer simulated approximations. Even NASA has a blog post on how difficult they are to solve.

            https://www.grc.nasa.gov/www/k-12/airplane/nseqs.html

So when some person says we know it all about climate, I just shake my head. We haven’t a clue.

          • Brent says:

thx for that link. it looks like even the variables have variables.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

Yeah, and to top it off the set of equations are coupled. Must be solved together. Ugh.

          • Bob Edwards says:

Plus they are highly susceptible to small variations in initial conditions. Which means you can get very large differences over time due to small errors in your measurements. Add to that the finite nature of computer math and the errors accumulate over time to the point that there is no hope of producing reasonable accuracy any significant time in the future.

          • Brent says:

wasn’t that the plot in Office Space?

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

Yep. And the computer simulations had to divide up the atmosphere in roughly 20 cubic kilometers and treat them as static data points! We all know how much activity in the atmosphere can happen in that volume!

          • cush creekmont says:

Oracle, I have been dealing with young engineers for years who like to tell me that their computer program has told them that the heat exchange is off by 1/2 percent. I tell them that the formulae within their program largely came from Germans around 1900. Those are stated by the “inventors” to be accurate within +/- 5% 95% of the time. But if their computer says 1/2% different, it is exact.

          • Drew says:

Oh gosh, not those again. I had to use those for a class in undergrad. A complete pain in the butt to just get to a solvable equation.

          • Brent says:

I’m sure you’ve mentioned it before, but are you an Army guy out there in Huntsville?

          • Bob Edwards says:

I work for a government contractor. We do modeling and simulation for several defense organizations.

          • cush creekmont says:

Then we need to put physicists on it and not meteorologists to have a chance.

          • Bob Edwards says:

The physicists know better. You can roughly predict it with some accuracy out a couple of days but the farther out you go it becomes impossible in any practical sense.

          • cush creekmont says:

Maybe they can get to what or where (not both) like Heisenberg. Now they don’t seem to do either unless they have a radar image.

          • Brent says:

and we need to understand that science is not fact…science only eliminates the impossible.

          • cush creekmont says:

Yes. I was at OU on the First Earth Day. All the fear-talk was an Ice Age and over population leading to starvation.

          • cush creekmont says:

Very open-ended arguments there also. My feeling is that eventually even Malthus may be right.

          • Dick Bump says:

If he is we’ll need more than a wall..

          • cush creekmont says:

Dick, I meant if we have an open ended time-frame, all manner of prediction can come true. After all, the sun will expand as it cools in about 5 billion years and the earth will be inside the cooling sphere of the sun – I may miss the event.

          • Dick Bump says:

There will still be signs in Stillwater saying “wait until next year!”.

          • cush creekmont says:

Yes. In the event of an impending meteor catastrophe wiping out all life, they would console themselves with talk of how they WOULD have won it all if not for that dang meteor 🙂

          • Brent says:

and if they survived, rings would be made

          • cush creekmont says:

Shoot Brent, they would make them up before, just to be sure to enjoy the “championship.”

          • metzker says:

            My bad!

        • Bob Edwards says:

Kish had a bad first year recruiting and that mixed with not much talent in the stable got him started off on the wrong foot. Combine that with the fact that he’s about as charismatic as unbuttered toast and a lot of fans were down on him.
All he has done since has been bring in highly rated recruits and had guys ready to play. BV was good but our second stringers never really seemed ready if number one went down.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

I was not, but certainly am glad people smarter than me are guiding this ship. It seems like he is a genuine guy that takes time to build a relationship with his recruits.

          • metzker says:

Exactly,Hawk. When you see pics of him with backers like at Bobs or wherever they seem to love the guy1

          • hOUligan says:

I’ll own it, too. Was not a fan of ‘Mike’s buddy’. And Bob’s analogy re: ‘unbuttered toast’ seems about right but then, I’ve never spoken w/ the man. He has proven himself on all accounts.

          • cush creekmont says:

Early on, I was all over the get-rid-of-Kish thinking. Optics were bad (Mike “buddy”) more than anything. So, I have to join with Hawk in saying Bob knew better. Playing Alexander as a Frosh and not having a strong bench as Bob mentioned earlier, made the LBs look worse in the short run.

          • Matt says:

and Jordan Evans had to play as a frosh and sophomore. An incredibly thin linebacking crew got even thinner when Shannon had to sit a year. Kish is not bad at all.

          • Matt says:

I think we all remember way more about Brandon Crow than we need to.

          • Fear The Magic says:

Plus the fact that the defense overall was kind of a disaster his first couple of years and was looked at as a M Stoops crony and between that and not pulling in top LBs recruits he wasnt the most popular coach with fans. Things have been looking much better the last 2 years.

          • Dick Bump says:

Lack of prepared second stringers has cost us a few games over the years. I remember the Tejas game when Reynolds went down in particular.

          • cush creekmont says:

Bingo! I even said it at the time, “we are in trouble” when Reynolds got hurt.

          • Brent says:

didn’t it take Texas all of two plays to figure it out too?

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

            2008…

        • soonerinks says:

I have always been a fan of Kish the Coach and the last 2 years I have come around to “his way of thinking” on recruiting.

        • Dick Bump says:

It’s surprising how much smarter he’s become in the last couple years?

    • hOUligan says:

He said ‘when I get there…’ when talking about OU and really seems high on Kish and OU. Another very thoughtful young man.

    • SWoods says:

I really like the way that sounds!!

  • SWoods says:

Coach Kish went from being fired by the fans, to pulling Kelly and having a REAL shot at pulling Hines, Grumbs, and Phillips.

    • Daryl says:

Though it is true he is also getting a lot more help from Mime Stoops now that Mike is helping coach LBs. I don’t want to bash Kish because I do think he has turned it around but think so of that is Mike Stoops. Especially with Kelly he talked about Mike Stoops a lot!

      • SWoods says:

Yes you are right. I do remember hearing Kelly say that Mike was a major influence on him.

    • Bob Edwards says:

I get the feeling is they don’t have much stuff right now and so are kind of stretching it out. Like we would disappear if there wasn’t enough. If all the TFB guys left this thread would keep going until it broke Disqus.

Have a great weekend. I still think you’re great even though you moved me and Sam to the second row 🙂

    • SamSooner says:

Here you go, Metz. I hope you all enjoy:

So, the craziest of crazy things happened: Metz metzed with us and he has become somewhat of a celebrity, a TFB favorite to metz around with; he has dual status; he is both famous and infamous, depending on which camp you’re in. You all know what camp I’m in and how I feel about his shameless discretion: let’s just say that come election time, he’s not getting my vote. Mike stole his llama, which was a Sooper idea and widely supported within the TFB community.

Baylor and Ole Mi$$ are in a world of hurt, have problems as big as a Bear, as was told to us by Ed, who was told by the Oracle737 that this would happen. Soonersd, Wilson, Brown, Cheryl, Brien,Cav, Shelby, L’Carpetron, left “The Grove” while delusional fans in Oxford shouted “hotty toddy” to other delusional fans; they took the Lane, while driving Higg’s rig, that led to Waco; they hopped on a ferry and watched a dumpster fire as they travelled up the Brazos River. There, they saw Sooner fans abound, such as JimInTexas, who placed a couple of Chubbs (a device that sets the bolt immovably if the lock is picked) to bind Briles’ wrists but did not stop Briles from sending ill advised tweets about what Baylor had accomplished under his watch, while his players pillaged and plundered the very village that took them in, acting as if they were the Oakland Raida(s). Both universities, Ole Mi$$ and Baylor, have Rainydaze ahead.

Sanchez, the wise one, and Boz, the bad one, are in Hogg heaven that Isaiah Thomas has been added to SS17; they are waiting for the next Boom! Brandon, please take a Rocket and head down to Houston and let us know where things stand with Mr. Wilson. Please CC Jordan and Super K, so that we can get an OP with information of his commitment, as the TFB Family would love to have a BOOM! so big that Mark-in-Va can hear it while having a cup of Joe and smoking a Doobie.

Ouknow texsa sucks; hOUligan, the hooligan, can attest to that. HWMNBN has never had any clout or Mojo; he is a negative louse, who is without faith, a Pagan, I Fear. He pretends to be a fan but we all know better. HWMNBN can’t find it in himself to BGood; nonetheless, that doesn’t keep him from trying to pull the wool over our eyes. His performance is so weak that, let us say, he will not be winning an Oscar anytime soon; he’s more suited for the role of a Dick and Pimp (sorry fellas: trying hard to work your names in). Bob is still direct and succinct. There is a Slim chance that Doc will metz up like his dad. We pray he doesn’t; if so, we will sick JP, the BidrDawg, who will bark with a slight Woof to let him know there is plenty of probation to go around, to be administered by Cush and Sam. The intent is to punish you so hard that it will make you Bleed.

SoonerRay performed a Magic trick with Dustin, that involved a recruit, a tent, no light, and whipped cream. It was truly amazing that they got away Scott free; Mesmerizing, it was; the ultimate illusion you would only see in under the Electric lights of Vegas, or Colorado, or London, or StL, or EasTex. If you don’t like tricks, go to a coffee shop, in the 403 area code, and have a Framoka with CDZ, KJ, Jed or Daryl or all them. Keep your phone charged because they’ll be Collin you soon.

While Baylor and Ole Miss are mucking up, Jake, J.r., and Zack were playing Golf in DC, they missed many fairways and often found their golf balls in the Woods, south by SW (southwest). Jason had a combined 47 strokes on holes 7, 11 and 12. It appears his belief is that you should Garner as many strokes as you can in 18 holes. I’m willing to bet you that the other golfers decided they didn’t need to watch him like a Hawk. They all Drew the conclusion he sucked.

TRob keeps bringing the good news about a kid name Creed, which enable all of us to “simma dine, ni!” David, Matt, Rick and Dave are glad the off-season is coming to a close. They are ready for the season to start and end with 14 wins and a crown fit for Malicongs. Alar, if it sounds like the name of a genie, it’s because it is, lives in the vivid (sometimes twisted) imagination of Robertson: ask the HWMNBN and the Mike Gundy. The summer workouts have started, which means the season will start soon. Here’s hoping the friendlies come back and the knuckle heads stay away. This is going to be a good year and I don’t believe there’s a way OU blow this opportunity and Metz this up.

    • jimintexas says:

      Have a great one!

  • Boom says:

As a follow up to the flight I had this morning with the Houston guys – Delpit, M. Jones, Mahammad, & Foster who is a DB. I gotta say, Marvin Jones is a full grown man. He didn’t say much but smiled with he found I was a sooner. When we left, I said boomer and he smiled and said sooner. I told Mahammad to watch Andrews this year and he said Riley told him the same. Didn’t talk to the others as they were in different places. Made the time go by faster.

  • Bob Edwards says:

OK. Enough watching computer simulations run and posting on TFB so I don’t drive a ice pick in my brain from boredom. Time to head to the house.

    • cush creekmont says:

Have a good evening, Bob! I have another hour before I can “lock the gate.”

    • Lincoln Hawk says:

Bob, have you ever read The Screwtape Letters? Somebody recommended it to me so I ordered a signature classics book from C.S Lewis, comes with 7 total. I just started reading it but just curious what you thought. Thanks.

      • Bob Edwards says:

Read it fifteen or twenty years ago. I like Lewis. I pull out and read the Chronicles of Narnia every few years. Even though it’s a kids book it has a lot of Truth mixed in with the fiction that cause you to think.. He’s a very good writer and has a way of putting things into his novels that mixes in spiritual truth without being cheesy or preachy. Some of his non fiction is pretty good also.

        • Lincoln Hawk says:

Thanks Bob, I came home the other day and my girls were watching Chronicles of Narnia, it was interesting to see the parallels. That’s when I decided to order the books. I appreciate the feedback.

          • Bob Edwards says:

Yeah, the movies were pretty good, but they took some liberties with the story as they always do. The books are much better.

        • Drew says:

Lewis’ work is great. If you haven’t done so already, I highly recommend looking into the relationship between him and Tolkien. Tolkien actually was the one who converted Lewis to Christianity, though Lewis became protestant while Tolkien was Catholic. Lewis was also one of the first few people who Tolkien showed Middle Earth to (and was understandably a little upset when Lewis cribbed the magic ring idea for the Magician’s Nephew). Tolkien also had fairly strong views of allegory, which Narnia is of course rife with.

          • Bob Edwards says:

Quite aware of it. They were both members of a group called the Inklings. Kind of an informal literary club/society that included Tolkein, Lewis and a number of others. That’s funny that Tolkien would chide Lewis for allegory when Tolkien used so much imagery from Scripture in LOTR. Maybe not allegory per se, but the Christ figure (Aragorn) returning with the ransom dead to fight the Satan figure (Sauron) and his minions is right out of Rev 19.
