FOOTBALL (FREE)

RECRUITING

lulz.

OTHER

Interesting. Certainly don’t expect anything to come of it this year, especially with Self. But Smart is a guy I could definitely see in the NBA at some point.

  • LottsSocks says:

Hey Athlon “Charles Walker, DL, Oklahoma (Jr., 6-2, 200)”???

Seems a bit light in the britches…

  • SoonerMagic76 says:

Being a Sooner is the best. The end.

    • Ura Hogg says:

They might be hurting almost as much now down in College Station as they did after tamu came to Norman and left on the painful end of 77-0.

    • SoonerMagic76 says:

If you’re giving him a nickname, seems appropriate. If you’re trying to encourage him to do nothing, I think he’s got that covered all by himself!! Haha

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

Morning all. The implosion at aTm is in full swing?

  • ⚡️Electric Sooner⚡️ says:

    Good morning Sooners, BOOMER!!

  • ALar03 says:

even worse for a&m is recruits are saying that they are no longer considering them after all this.. Not that I care

    • Jim Casy says:

I care. I loathe that sheep humping, single brained cult.

      • ALar03 says:

it’s pretty funny they have lost 3 qbs since the end of the regular season last year…

        • Sooner Ray says:

TK walked into a great situation, he may have no competition.

          • ALar03 says:

I know tk can be a really good qb but he is the starter by default.. They Litterally have nothing else hope he stays healthy

          • Ura Hogg says:

If it continues, he may have no teammates…
Will the last one in College Station please turn out the lights.

  • Sooner Ray says:

Did we really need another jaws movie?

  • Matt says:

Wow. REALLY bad time for A&M…even recruits that weren’t considering them are adding to it. Okudah, Wilson and Browning?? That’s not gonna be good for A&M

  • Jeremy Phillips says:

I like the format Schroeder talked about yesterday.. Stay at 10 teams… Split into 2 – 5 team divisions.. Play everyone but play the opposite division early in the schedule & your own division late.. So that when we rematch in the title game, it’s not recent, at least a month or 2 in between.. There just aren’t 2 schools that are available that are worth expanding for.. If you could steal 2 from another power 5, i would change my mind but until then, i think this is the best scenario for getting the 13th data point & CCG money..

  • Greenlantern Otis says:

sumlin needs to get ahold of his coaches hahaha that would not fly if ou asst coaches did that bob would have their head

  • Matt says:

Let’s not forget that we almost had a similar situation with Boulware and Cobb last year, but thankfully Boulware was smart enough to keep it private.

    • Dick Bump says:

It’s gotta be hard to deal with the sensitivities of 17 year old kids with big egos. I’m glad I don’t try to make a living doing that. I have a hard enough time staying out of the “banned box” on the Internet.

  • Dick Bump says:

At least A&M has added a little excitement. Sumlin’s got his hands full.

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

I read a letter written about what UCF could bring to the table and I thought it was very compelling if the things written were true about their school. A guy posted it on Facebook Sooner Faithful but I’m not sure how to put a link up on here for everyone to read.

    • D Hunter Sanchez says:

I know. But any teams short of a Notre Dame/BYU, Houston/FSU…the Nation will still come up with a narrative that is negative toward the conference. They are calling for us to take anybody, and when we do they’ll poo poo it. Mark my words.

      • Lane Gilstrap says:

Huge market in Orlando for media. Excellent recruiting grounds. They don’t have an NFL team so having a p5 football team would probably thrive. According to that letter they would be toward the top of our conference in academic standings too. I know I wasn’t that crazy about them, but I’m rethinking that a little, just saying.

        • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Fair enough. But I really rather go to the SEC for recruiting gains. We are okay now, but imagine the hype and top 5 classes!

        • Bob Edwards says:

They would also open up some Florida TV markets and would help us recruit Florida by giving us games there.

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Or we could could schedule a weeks worth of Spring practice near Gainesville.

          • Jed says:

With both FU and FSU in the north (‘South Georgia’ aka ‘the worlds largest trailer park’), south and central Florida are ripe for the picking. Probably the country’s most concentrated recruiting grounds, as well.

    • Mark_in_VA says:

Yeah, I’ve thought all along, one of the FL directional schools is our best bet if we insist on expansion. Miami showed that a football nobody in FL can become a somebody given the chance. There’s just so much going for that state recruiting-wise it’s ridiculous.

  • Sooner Ray says:

If Wichita State adds football and joins FBS, we better snag them before the sec or big does. 🙂

    • Lane Gilstrap says:

I’m not sure how they could add any more than Houston could, and I’m totally against adding Houston for the record.

    • Dick Bump says:

They’d fit right in with the city colleges, directional schools, and parochial schools the Big 12 has as options. Easy travel, though it would hurt KU’s recruiting.

    • Bob Edwards says:

Day one they would probably be the third best football team in Kansas. Once they hired a coach and recruited some players they could move up to two ahead of KU.

    • D Hunter Sanchez says:

      Sarcasm at its finest.

    • metzker says:

Now thats a good one Ray!

  • Dick Bump says:

Gasso has it going. OU softball is killing it.

  • Mike Reed says:

Yesterday was “May the 4th be With You”…Today is Happy Cinco de Mayo and May the 5th be with you!!

  • Collin says:

Morning everyone and happy Cinco De Drinko!

  • Birddawg says:

That top 25 list is missing Dede..
    Our returning receiving leader.
He’s going to make a jump this season.
    Got Nfl aspirations
    9/25 isn’t bad

  • rainydaze114 says:

There is no school (that’s looking to join) that the B12 could bring in that would benefit OU more than OU leaving the B12.

    • Jordan Esco says:

      accurate statement is accurate.

      • Boom says:

The grass is always greener but in OU’s case, it is. I agree. Even if Texas becomes a top 10, no one (media) will ever take the Baylor’s/KSU/TCU seriously.

      • metzker says:

Whats that called using the least amount of words to make your point understood?

      • JB says:

I would like to see OU move on, I just don’t want to be a member of the toothless inbred rednecks of the SEC. I used to live in SEC country (Louisiana and Alabama), and I want no part if it.

        • Boom says:

I understand as I’m in Louisiana all the time for the last 15 years. However, let me ask you if you would rather watch OU play Ole Miss or Minnesota. LSU or Iowa. Or drive to Bama for a game in the warm weather or freeze in Wisconsin.
There are toothless inbred rednecks in every state including our own Oklahoma.
I would rather have ESPN splash our name in a good way and brag how well we are doing in the toughest division in football.
I would rather play a major bowl or playoff in my backyard against one of the other conferences.
Same for all sports at OU.

          • Ura Hogg says:

Gotta agree. As much as we get sick of ESPN tooting the SEC horn, we know they will keep doing it as long as two things keep happening, 1) SEC teams keep winning championships and 2) Their SEC network keeps making money.
We love to talk about the best recruits being the ones who don’t mind stiff competition. Well it can’t be denied that overall, the best competition in any conference would come from the top teams in the SEC. Stoops is all about competing. Bring on LSU,Bama,Georgia,Florida, and let’s get back to stomping tamu again.
Leave the shorthorns with their network and let the Big 12 conference collapse around them. It’s time to make a change instead of being dragged along by Texsa.

          • JB says:

As Bob said, the SEC is a top-heavy conference. If they were so great, why has Mizzou, a mid-level big 12 team, been so successful in the SEC?

If you put OU, USC, Oregon, Texas (ut won’t stay down forever), together, you’re going to have a pretty damn strong conference, as strong as the SEC. While I don’t want the Big 10, if you put OU and Texas with Ohio State and Michigan, you will have as strong a conference as there is.

          • JB says:

Well, I would rather watch OU play Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Penn State, or Wisconsin than Ole Miss, Kentucky, Miss State, Vanderbilt, South Carolina, Texas A&M or Georgia. But I’m not hoping for OU to go to the Big 10. I’ll take the snow of Wisconsin over the disgusting heat and humidity of the southern states. You can always add more clothes in the cold, but you can only take so many off in the humidity.

I’d rather be in the PAC 12. I’d rather visit exciting and beautiful destinations like Seattle, Palo Alto, Boulder, Eugene, Los Angeles, Corvallis, Berkeley, Salt Lake City, Tempe, etc.

Yes, we have rednecks and hicks in Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas and Iowa. But, as I discussed with a buddy of mine the other day who was in the Marine Corps and lived in the Carolinas, the level of inbred hicks and rednecks in the deep south is on an entirely different level and much worse than anything you’ll see in OK, TX, KS or IA. The total number is also much greater in the south. The last thing we need is to justify being associated with southern inbreds because we have some hicks in our own states.

We should seek to improve our image by associating with a different and more varied group of people. I want to avoid the toothless jorts-wearing inbreds who can talk about Jesus in one sentence and use the N-word in the next. I’ve never heard the rampant use of racial slurs like I heard when I lived in the South. I’d rather interact with people who are more educated and have a better sense of style. Starkville, Baton Rouge, Gainesville, Auburn, Tuscaloosa, Fayetteville and Knoxville cannot offer that.

    • SoonerOracle737 says:

      Absolutely agree 100%.

    • SamSooner says:

RD is making it rain. Keep preaching, preacher.

  • Scott says:

Gaggies falling apart haha I love it. All the top rated kids in the state of Texas are tired of feeling like these ” Texas schools ” thinking they have a advantage over the Out of State schools. Let me just say Wilson , Okudah, Browning , Hines won’t be picking Texas school when things are all said in done.

  • SoonerOracle737 says:

It is a wonder there haven’t been more faux pas on Social Media by coaches. OUr staff does a great job avoiding this kind of debacle.

    • SamSooner says:

That coach could be gone after next season. Sumlin won’t/can’t fire him now because fall camp is just around the corner. But I can bet you, this is his last season. That’s not appropriate in the workplace: the use of social media to perform work duties, or the use of social media that gives a company a black eye, can be used for cause of termination.

      • SoonerOracle737 says:

I’m glad there wasn’t Social Media around when I was a teenager. Just sayin’… 🙂 I would have made many terrible mistakes that would have lived on forever in Cyber World. It is too easy to do. I think coaches should keep a distance on Twitter, et al, and just tweet in generalities about their program and who they are going to see. Limit it to that and you can keep this stuff from happening. That is my advice.

        • SamSooner says:

Yeah, you and me both. When I was working in a customer care call center, we talked to all kinds of people. Some nice, some mean, and some intent on pushing every button on the panel to get you worked up. I told my team that the situation is unfortunate and that I know they would like to give a snappy reply; I would tell them you are the “professional” and you can’t retaliate.

      • Boom says:

Agree. Also, as I’m reading these tweets and the aftermath, I just think of all the folks on here who lose it on recruits who decommit. Coaches switch overnight so where is “their” loyalty.
Following recruiting over the years, most of the ones who decommited never made it at their other college. Sometimes it just works out.

        • SamSooner says:

So true, Boom. I don’t know who’s coming here. That’s why I always wish kids the best; and I really wish them the best. It’s unfortunate when kid decommits but what can you do?

  • ouwooferman says:

Aggies being aggies. The tradition of being stupid lives on.

  • SoonerMagic76 says:

If you didn’t read the Texas A&M article, do yourself a favor and do. A beautiful example of how to shoot oneself in the foot.

  • Jim Casy says:

    From Texsa 05/04

    Unofficial Longhorn
I say they go after Robison. OU already has Mayfield (who might get
    another year), Murray (3 years + 1), and Kendall (4 years). I don’t know
how Robison plans to see the field. If I were A$M, he’d look like low
    hanging fruit to me…

    • Cav66 says:

That school is probably going to have some issues pulling top QB recruits out of their commitments for a while. From what I have read about Robison, he seems to thrive in competitive environments. That being said, I’m sure several schools will make a run at recruiting him before all is said and done.

      • Jim Casy says:

The average aggy blogger still thinks all of this mess is the QBs and is not a culture problem starting at the top…. Could you imagine Bob having that degree of chaos? It just wouldn’t happen, not on that large scale.

        • Cav66 says:

It does make you appreciate the more stable environment (knock on wood) put in place by OUr coaches. Strong and engaged leadership sets the tone.

    • SamSooner says:

aTm has bad baggage right now. They have a long and short term history of mistreating QBs. I don’t think they are going to get any quality QBs soon. As for being stuck on the depth chart, that’s true at every position.

      • Jim Casy says:

Yeah. I think we are solid with Chris for now. No other schools of note have even officially offered him and I think that is because they believe he is solid for OU. He did just win MVP at both Dallas and Houston Nike regionals so I’m sure somebody wont be able to help themselves from trying.
The bonds with each other seem strong with this class top to bottom and that is also good.

      • Fear The Magic says:

It just shows how the landscape of college football can change in a flash. It was only two years ago that A&M was the team of the future. Sumlin was still the cant miss coach who everyone was raving about and recruiting was just off the charts.
Now just a couple of years later their future looks bleak to say the least.
I wouldnt be surprised at all if the Aggies recruiting class doesnt even make the top 20 this year.

        • SamSooner says:

Fear, you are correct. I think Sumlin’s future classes will continue to diminish. I just don’t see production on the field. Smoke and mirrors.

    • Mark_in_VA says:

      Please.

If Robison is worth having, then he plans to see the field by kicking a$$ over the rest of the competition. And I fully believe he’s worth having.

    • Zack says:

The thing with Robison is that the longer he stays committed to OU, the better chance he signs with OU on nsd. With qb recruiting, if they are committed somewhere and make it to the beginning of their senior season then they generally won’t start looking around.

    • Malicong says:

I’m sure every Texas fan would like OU recruits to be lured away. This 2017 class should scare the hell out of them.

  • Bob Edwards says:

So here is Coach Loyalty’s stops as a coach:

    New Mexico (2009)
    Stanford (2010–2012)
    Virginia Tech (2013–2014)
    Texas A&M (2015–present)

Dude has never stayed in one place long enough to watch an incoming freshman graduate and he’s lecturing a 17yo on loyalty. Hmm.

    • Boom says:

Bringing facts. Novel idea. Good stuff.

      • Bob Edwards says:

I’m working to bring down the Internet as we know it. My theory is that if social media as a whole ever gets to 2% facts the whole thing will become unstable and will implode.

        • Cav66 says:

A nice dream, but similar to trying to turn back the ocean tide with a strong urination. Your critical mass percentage requirement is likely unattainable.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

He’s not wrong about loyalty, it’s just not something he should have been tweeting and sub-tweeting about.

    • cush creekmont says:

Bob, with his “twitter intelligence,” he won’t last long as an aggie either.

  • Jpsooner23 says:

Need some home town info for game day activities since I have been away from home games for quite some time and plan to make tOSU with some company.
-Pre-game spots you guys recommend? Not looking for the college experience per se. We are all in our upper 20’s to upper 30’s (Ok 40 by that time) so something for the “middle age” crowd.
-Same thing for post game celebration after we whip dat tail
    Any info appreciated!

    • J.r. Kamm says:

Campus Corner is great for all ages.

      • Jpsooner23 says:

Appreciate it, sounds like things haven’t changed too much

      • KJ1123 says:

Yeah I always just end up at Logies before the game. I get there hours before and just hangout and watch the other games. For some reason it doesn’t get as crowded as Oconnells early. Maybe because they have the radio show over there. I do like Louies though, it’s just kinda small.

    • Defend Colfax says:

Just wear red and yell BOOMER! Don’t try all the food at the tailgates, and try to stop other Sooners if they are being too aggressive towards OUr visitors.

      • Jpsooner23 says:

I got that part down. I had an entire Papasitas restaurant in Dallas yelling Sooner back to me for 5 minutes after a UT trouncing a few years back.
My wife didn’t care for it, but oh well…..

        • Defend Colfax says:

They never do. But it’s your duty to show her how passionate you can be. 😉

          • OohRah Mama says:

Well, I beg to differ. My daughter-in-law hails from Missouri, and she’s become a HUGE Sooner fan. You just have to pick ’em right. 😉

          • Jpsooner23 says:

She’s come around since then. She just didn’t like the public display at the time. Was early in our relationship so she really didn’t understand.
She’s coming to this game and actually pumped about it. Sooner Nation has won her over.

        • metzker says:

Cheryl is in to that stuff jp

        • Jpsooner23 says:

And downtown Denver has a picture of me up at all local bars for no admission after the 2000 NCG.
The girlfriend at the time didn’t care for that either. She gone.

      • OohRah Mama says:

So how is the stadium fare? I hear they’ve added quite a few terrific food vendors since we moved in ’05.

        • Defend Colfax says:

I always had a liquid lunch for the most part. I haven’t been back to Norman since I’ve become a dad. But my pups are getting close to their first gameday.

    • Dick Bump says:

IHOP has some senior specials..just kidding, you’re not there yet, getting close. Most of the activity will be around Campus Corner. It will be busy, especially for that game.

      • Oscar says:

I was thinking about opening an AARP bar in Stubman Village. Think it would go over?

    • SamSooner says:

JP, I will be there too.

      • Jpsooner23 says:

I know some on here have mentioned TFB get togethers before. Haven’t seen much lately, but maybe this game would be a candidate?

        • metzker says:

          Im probably banned!

          • Jpsooner23 says:

Well, if you behave yourself for the next few months I may be able to convince Cheryl to lift the restraining order for one day.

          • metzker says:

            LMFAOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

          • SamSooner says:

Based on what I hear about your drinking habit, you’re probably going to fall off the wagon.

        • SamSooner says:

It would be great. Don’t tell Metz.

        • Jed says:

If someone wants to lead, I’ll be a willing follower. Maybe we could start with a little pavilion with beverages and let it grow from there?

          • Jpsooner23 says:

I agree, but needs to be some local folks.
Maybe TFB can use some of their earnings to pay for the first one.

          • Jed says:

I’m local (edmond) but am not in a situation (time) where I’d be able to be the primary on this. I can and would help, however.

    • DrewChubbs says:

The only stop you NEED to make for pregame activities: Sugers!

    • SamSooner says:

      That looks B-ADDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!

    • KJ1123 says:

The funniest part of this pic is the 3rd guy from the right looking down at the guy next to him and the guy to the far right looking straight ahead as if he’s telling himself “dont look, dont look”

    • Walter Sobcek says:

Do we really want to know what’s going on there? I. Don’t. Think. So.

    • Stephen Dale says:

OU may need to worry about Robison now…..the Aggies will come after him…..

      • KJ1123 says:

I think aTm will be in damage control for a little while. Right now in the recuits eyes OU Staff is way > than aTms staff.

    • J.r. Kamm says:

So an unprovoked Manyang just popped Evans in the mouth for no reason. A lot missing to this story.

      • Oscar says:

Evans, while working the counter at Burger King, left the large order of fries off of AK’s tray and gave him a small drink instead of the Supersize that was purchased. It would make me made too!!!!

    • Fear The Magic says:

I wouldnt be surprised at all if some of this is related to the emotional turmoil that hes probably going through following his brothers suicide. There must be a ton of repressed anger going on.

    • Defend Colfax says:

How many issues have we had with current athletes getting into it with under achievers who hang around Norman.?

    • Oscar says:

The Jokelahoman/newsok took 3 days to acknowledge the men’s and women’s National Titles in gymnastics, but took them just a couple of hours to get AKs altercation in blazing headlines.

Yeah you know, alot of kids or most kids rather, don’t grasp the whole value of “commitment”, but dude, that’s your job and you know that’s how things work. Stay your arse off of social media, vent to your sheep instead. Dumb.

      • SamSooner says:

KJ, that’s classic: “…vent to your sheep instead…”

      • j l says:

You are paid 6 figures, you’re expected to be a professional. Now hes made his job, and the other coaches jobs, 1000x harder. Oh well, hope their loss is our gain.

Way too early rankings. Just hoping they know something about something.

    • KJ1123 says:

Haha we lead the WAY too early rankings…hilarious.

    • cush creekmont says:

Yeah, WAY early. And notice how Tenn is top 10 – they have been “the coming” team since the day after we beat them in Norman. Just “some how” they manage to lose several games.

      • Fear The Magic says:

I actually think Tenn will beat Bama this year. They took it to OT last year and I believe its a home game for the Vols.

        • cush creekmont says:

Perhaps, but they are the SEC version of “team on the rise” going on three years now.

          • Fear The Magic says:

I agree but I think this year they’ll pull it together despite their head coach and their putrid colored unis

          • Fear The Magic says:

I agree but I think this year they’ll pull it together despite their head coach and their putrid colored unis

          • cush creekmont says:

I would like to see Bama lose to them too. I am just the skeptical, “prove it to me” type. Those “great up and coming” A&M teams after Johnny GOOFball’s ONE big win at Alabama, should remind us that the coach and the team are much more likely to be “what they have been” than “what they hope to be.”

          • DrewChubbs says:

Maybe it takes longer to rise in the Southeast, because ya know, tradition and history and other cool buzzwords.

      • j l says:

Pretty fair ranking TBH. All of their 4 losses(besides arky) were to 2 playoff teams, and another that won the SEC east, and they could have won all of them.

        They are stacked.

    • Fear The Magic says:

Id rather start the season ranked a bit lower. That #1 target on your back makes every game tougher.

      • cush creekmont says:

Don’t worry Fear, NObody pays attention to SI rankings. I suspect the tOSU, SEC and FSU bias will keep OUr team from being ranked too high.

      • rainydaze114 says:

I think the name on the front of the jerseys already does that, regardless of ranking.

      • Walter Sobcek says:

Clemson has thumped us two years in a row, and no matter how many starters they lost last year, seems they should be ranked higher. I hope we get a third try at them this season.

  • Jeff says:

OU needs to get out of the Big 12 now!! Uterus is not giving up the short horn network unless ESPIN give a guarantee they will get all of the money they are owed

  • bommer85 says:

oklahoma 247 has a VIP article saying Tyrese Robinson interested in Texas. Assuming its clickbait as usual…. Anyone know?

    • SamSooner says:

Don’t buy it. Tyrese’s brother, T-Rob, posts regularly on this site. Tyrese is all OU.

      • cush creekmont says:

Sam, I can’t fully recall, but I thought T-Rob mentioned that his brother might visit places for “the experience,” but “was all OUDNA.”

        Maybe, he will jump in.

        • SamSooner says:

Yes, T-Rob said he will take his visits but other than that, he’s all in and down with SS17.

  • Matt says:

The other day I mentioned the idea that next years defense might look more like the 2013 defense in structure with Julian Wilson at one OLB spot and Striker at the other. But today I’m wondering if anyone wants to explore how the players on this years team would compare to what we saw from that defense. 2013 DE: Tapper/ Grissom 2016 DE: Walker/Ward ’13 NT: Phillips/ young Wade ’16 NT: Senior Wade/Overton/Romar ’13 OLB: Wilson/ young Striker ’16 OLB: Johnson/ Obo ’13 ILB: Shannon/ Nelson ’16 ILB: Evans/ Evans ’13 CB Sanchez/ Colvin ’16 CB: Thomas/ Austin/Mbanasor/ Stephens ’13 S: Lynn/Hayes ’16 S: Parker/ Thomas………….What do you guys think? Where are we better, where are we worse?

    • Fear The Magic says:

I think its almost impossible to make a comparison at this point. We have so many kids coming in with tons of potential but as of now thats what it is, potential.
We should know a lot more by mid season.

      • metzker says:

We used to say no worries just reload.

        • Fear The Magic says:

          sigh….I miss Barry..

          • Rick says:

I don’t think Barry could operate in today’s scutiny and instant “blog court”. We were placed on probation several times under him when things were pretty lax. Today’s world puts coaches under a microscope and under thumb. Cheating still goes on, and coaches get away with it daily, but not without instant exposure when caught. Barry operated in a less than legal way bending and braking the rules and still getting caught. He just wouldn’t last long today.

          • Dick Bump says:

            Suing the NCAA didn’t help.

          • Rick says:

I was trying to remember the time line when all that happened, Dick.
Did the probations happen before, after or around the suit?

          • Dick Bump says:

Unfortunately, I think it was all of the above in regards to timing. The NCAA certainly seemed to be looking for payback. The lawsuit was around 1984.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

We’ll be as good as our Dline is. If they dominate like they are capable of, we’re going to be pretty good on D. If they struggle, it could expose our young LB’s and new corner.

      • John Garner says:

Agree. The play of the D-Line will decide our fate.

      • Matt says:

if you look at what they had that year though its almost identical at the LB spot. Striker and Shannon were both young and athletic but inexperienced with Nelson the experienced player between them. Now we’ve got Obo and Tay young and athletic with Evans the experienced player between them. I think this D will be alright

  • Fear The Magic says:

I feel there are about 20- 30 TFBers right now staring intently at their computer screen in hopes that the next blue “One new message” will say “Open post is up”.

  • ZW_in_Austin says:

If OU leaves the Big12, then Texas will want to immediately after. Wouldn’t any of the other conferences make them drop the longhorn network before joining? So it seems to me as if it’s destined to go away regardless.

    • MoJoOkie says:

      N-dependent.

      • SoonerfanTU says:

I really don’t see them doing that. I think that would make recruiting for them tougher.

      • cush creekmont says:

Naw. The unparalleled hubris that IS texsa will force them to create the “New Southwest Conference.” The members will be:

        U of texsa
        Tech
        TCU
        Baylor
        SMU
        Houston

        North Texas State
        UTEP
        New Mexico
        New Mexico State

AND because they don’t have “their Aggies,” Oklahoma State as the replacement aggie team

  • OUgrad82 says:

      • Rick says:

No one really knows at this point including, how good is Alabama, until they start playing, but….these kind of articles CAN’T hurt recruiting.

    • SamSooner says:

Rick, I wonder if Kingsbury told them at the end of the season they would be let go.

      Ha! I did a funny.

      • Rick says:

I wonder if he remembered to give them a full release upon getting the “boot”.

        • SamSooner says:

He probably won’t release them. “It was my intent to bring them back.”

          • Rick says:

“I kinda think, maybe I’ll probably need them sorta, in the future”.

          • SamSooner says:

Who got kicked off the team.

I don’t get it: how can they recruit anyone. I could understand it when Leach was there but this clown, is the prettiest clown; plus, he’s shallow.

            Thanks!

          • Rick says:

Sam, I’ve found it, but I did make a mistake after re-reading it. I took Sumlin’s statement to be about the player….it’s not. He was referring to Coach Moorehead. The article was talking about the player that de-committed, then jumped to a line simply stating Moorehead. I had to look up who Moorehead was, he is a aTm coach. https://twitter.com/TexAgs/status/728276670998700032

          • SamSooner says:

Rick, thanks for finding this and sharing with us.

          • Defend Colfax says:

          • Rick says:

The tweet was by the aTm WR coach.

          • Defend Colfax says:

I understand the whole story. Sam said “I wonder how much of this type of shenanigans was going on while Sumlin was at OU?”

There was no twitter. Sumlin’s biggest problem is that he beat Bama and had a player win a Heisman for probably the most depraved fanbase in the US. They love CFB down there, but they have never been good. Just like the money management of the oil boom, these clowns have no clue how to handle themselves.

    • RocketCitySooner says:

Simple. OU loses all the television revenue from any home games played until 2025. Read the Grant of Rights.

        There are ways around that.

I noticed the Gabriel has had 6 post while Super K and Andrew have both had post on the UT edition since mid last month, but I haven’t seen any attributed to them on OU edition. Have they the been assigned exclusively to the UT edition? Maybe I missed where this was discussed prior to the UT edition launch. Thanks, and keep up the good work Jordan.

    • Malicong says:

I believe Gabriel is a Texas guy kind of in a similar vein as Esco is for us (but maybe not as crazy). Andrew covers recruiting in Texas but not necessarily for a particular school. K is just trying to get the UT edition going but he is a loyal Sooner fan (or it least he better still be).

I thought they said there would be bowling? 🙂

      • SoonerinLondon says:

They did! They specifically said “bowling in the South end zone”.

    • DrewChubbs says:

I still think they should have taken the “old” JumboTron from the south endzone and put it up in the north endzone. Then, we would have the largest viewing experience in the nation. Plus, I always feel bad for those south endzoners having to turn around if they want to see replays.

      • Dustin says:

I think there will be one when everything is finished.

        • DrewChubbs says:

That would be alright. It just seems so lopsided to have that big display on one end, then the other end has that ugly, orange, text-only display.

          • Dustin says:

Two more phases, if I remember correctly. One for the east pressbox/upper deck and another for the south endzone.

          • DrewChubbs says:

I knew there were more phases, but somehow missed anything major pertaining to the north endzone.

      • SoonerinLondon says:

There was a big screen in the Phase 2 plan, but it has been removed. My understanding is that someone at the very top (I won’t use names) felt strongly that a big screen on the North end would obstruct the view of the campus, consequently, it was removed from the plan.

I can tell you, as someone who is moving to the SW corner and will not be able to see the new big screen, that I have been making my unhappiness known to everyone I can speak to in the athletic department. I expect there are many others, as well.

Hopefully, we can get it back into plan (although I don’t expect Phase 2 to be built for at least 3-4 years.)

        • DrewChubbs says:

I has just never made much sense to me that, at various times, we’ve had the largest video screen in the nation or conference, but the section that actually hosted the thing couldn’t see it unless they turned around away from the field. And the only upgrade to the north end was the change from the old light bulb mini-board to the digital orange lighted one (at least, it looks orange to my eyes). That’s probably the one color we shouldn’t have anywhere in our stadium.

Another point I’ve always gotten tripped up on is that the south end zone has typically hosted handicapped guests. If turning to look at the big board is inconvenient for people not dealing with physical issues, I can only imagine how miserable the experience is for someone that literally can’t turn easily. And I would also imagine a screen to look at on the other end might actually enhance the view of the game for some of them.
It just baffles me that educated people make some of these ridiculous decisions. And the northern view of the campus may very well be blocked somewhat anyway with the changes to the south end. As long as the NW corner is still relatively open, I don’t see the campus view being too obstructed. I doubt anyone really is interested in looking at the roof of the Physical plant anyway. I know…1st World Problems and all.
