    Good morning, all!!!!!

      Morning,Sam.

      • SamSooner says:

        Metz, my man! What’s up?
I’m going to try hard not to pick on you today. “Try” is the operative word.

        • SoonerOracle737 says:

          Resistance is futile.

        • Bob Edwards says:

          Try implies fail.

          • metzker says:

            Exactly!!!!!!!!

          • Bob Edwards says:

And old boss of mine taught me that. Whenever someone says they will ‘try’ it means they think they can’t get it done. If they did think they could get it done the would just say ‘I will do that’ not ‘I will try to do that.’

          • SamSooner says:

Yeah, I know. I’m okay with failing, in this instance. LOL!

Good morning, Bob! It’s a great to be alive and a great day to be in God’s favor.

          • Bob Edwards says:

Yes it is Sam. Yes it is. That’s the only thing that is keeping me going today.

      • SoonerOracle737 says:

Morning Metz. Hope your day goes well and all the problem concrete guys get cemented in place.

    • Sooner Ray says:

      Morning.

    • SoonerMagic76 says:

      Good morning Sam!

      • SamSooner says:

        Morning, Magic!
How’s married life? Still on your honeymoon?

        • SoonerMagic76 says:

She hasn’t gotten tired of me yet so I’m gonna call it a win! Haha no it really is going well, thanks for asking!

          Everything going well with you?

          • Stephen Dale says:

apparently you haven’t gotten to the ‘honey-do” project list yet….enjoy the honeymoon while it lasts. it’ll end soon enough….bout the time the in-laws come to visit or one of her siblings wants to move in to ‘find themselves’ …..

          • SoonerMagic76 says:

Haha I’m sure the lists will start up soon, but that’s alright – part of marriage is sacrifice and serving

          • Stephen Dale says:

for the rest of your married life, my friend…guys usually do much more sacrificing than their female companions however… just one of the reasons why men usually die before their wives do…..work yourself to death to scrimp, save–then die so the spouse can spend your savings while in the arms of a younger gigolo !!!! Ah, the injustice of it all..

          • J.r. Kamm says:

Dude, you just gotta’ piss on every thread, don’t you? What a sad, bitter life you must live.

          • Stephen Dale says:

it has had its moments for sure……just gotta give the young guy a view of the ‘reality of life’……

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

That’s the “reality of YOUR life”, not mine.

          • Stephen Dale says:

            yep, one side of it.

          • J.r. Kamm says:

I, for one, would appreciate you keeping your “reality” to yourself.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

Haha, absolutely no sacrifice for my wife to have our two children…….HAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Uncle Stevie coming with fire today!

          • Stephen Dale says:

yep, as a lifelong Sooner fan, want to let you view the ‘truth’…can’t say you haven’t been warned—one Sooner to another. have a good day, drink a cold brew, and squirrel back some money into a secret savings account for you……

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

I think our “truths” are completely different, but I appreciate you trying to help me out, even if it is rather dark. There’s way more to this life than money and worrying about anybody taking it from me, I can’t take it with me when I leave this Earth anyway. I’ve never seen a Brinks truck following a hearse.

          • Stephen Dale says:

just one of the different viewpoints between the young and old…and that’s okay……one aspect of PERSPECTIVE is having lived the situation to be able to ponder the outcome…Until one does, one can’t appreciate or understand……have a good day.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

Right, you are the only married guy that’s ever given me advice.

          • Stephen Dale says:

            no advice…..sounds like you found a keeper………

          • Bob Edwards says:

This has nothing to do with being old or young. I’m fifty six and have been married thirty eight years. During that time I’ve raised eleven kids eight of whom we adopted so there was never enough money to buy my wife everything she wanted. She has been a wonderful blessing to me and has never complained. My suggestion for you is to look in the mirror, your description of your marriage mirrors the way you deal with this board. I can’t imagine a woman that would be happy living with someone whose every word is negative.

          • Ed Cotter says:

Well said Bob. I actually mirror your reality more than the other. Only married 17 years but money and possessions haven’t been an issue and we work together to “build” our life. It has been truly wonderful…..and she buys me tickets to go to OU games….and we live in California. BOOMER!

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

You got a good one. Congrats!

          • Stephen Dale says:

interesting thought…..life is a learning experience and we do learn from others around us : parents, siblings, classmates, spouses….and it true, a good spouse is a lifetime blessing….you’ve had a gem: others haven’t enjoyed similar experiences….I’m happy for you.

          • ⚡️Electric Sooner⚡️ says:

For having two adopted kids of my own I commend you for having eight! Psalm 127:3 Children are a blessing and a gift from the Lord.
I would say you and the better half make a great team! Congrats on being married thirty eight years hoping you have thirty eight more together!

          • Stephen Dale says:

marriage is good as long as YOU are producing a good salary, nice home, new automobile, and spending cash. If / when life changes your fortunes and those’ amenities’ can’t be produced , then watch out..

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

Marry the right lady and none of that matters, that’s truth.

          • Stephen Dale says:

            very true.

          • Mark_in_VA says:

What I’m getting from this conversation, Stephen, is that you selected a nightmare for your wife. Take some responsibility for your choices instead of assuming your bad judgement means that’s “reality”.

          • OohRah Mama says:

Mark if you listen closely, ……………….. just loves whistling the Misogyny Rag.

          • Ura Hogg says:

When somebody becomes a ‘glass half empty’ kind of person, there’s usually a reason. You catch a lot of flak for bringing up one ‘worst case scenario’ after another for OU. But, hey, if your words are those of experience, I’m sorry you’ve been through the wringer and it gives a little insight. May your future be brighter.

          • J.r. Kamm says:

I don’t care what he says he’s been through, there’s absolutely no reason to piss on a newly married fella’. Guess he was never taught the old adage “If you can’t say something nice…”.

          • Ura Hogg says:

Not justifying his side nor supporting it, just trying to comprehend it a little. Sometimes you hear somebody spewing some pretty foul language and you think, “What in the world???”
And then, you see what they stepped in.
For my part I like your old adage. It’s a good one.

          • J.r. Kamm says:

Magic, great attitude. Keep doing what you’re doing, brother.

          • SoonerMagic76 says:

            Thanks man!

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

Great attitude man, marriage is great as long as she is the right one!

          • SoonerMagic76 says:

            Thanks bud!!

          • SamSooner says:

All good on this end. You should probably rub her feet tonight. It’s the magic elixir to future forgiveness and future favor. She’ll thank you later, and later, and later. Get my point?

          • SoonerMagic76 says:

I’m picking up what you’re putting down good sir

    • SoonerOracle737 says:

      Good Morning Sam!

    • J.r. Kamm says:

      Good morning, Sam!!

    • Stephen Dale says:

howdy… going to have an easlier day at work today ?

    • BleedCrimson says:

      Morning Sam!

  • Mike Reed says:

Good morning Brainiacs!! The Houston Mayor’s prediction for the OU/houston game is proof that politicians are stupid.

    • Stephen Dale says:

Unless OU has the same game plan in place that it used in last fall’s RRS with Texas…Actually, the Houston mayor’s comments will light a fire under Houston’s arse and refocus the Cougars on the upcoming OU game….Such talk will make it harder to keep the Houston HC however, if Houston can win the game…..No doubt, UT would be first in line should Charlie’s angels have another subpar season…….

      • SoonerMagic76 says:

If the effect of those comments are letting the Houston players believe that OU isn’t by far the “stiffest competition” they’ll have all year, then power to him. They’re in for a rude awakening if they believe that

      • Ed Cotter says:

Houston’s defense is going to be extremely inexperienced this year as they lost a ton of talent from last year’s team. I’m not saying OU wins in a rout, but the mayor saying that Houston will beat OU by 21 points is ludicrous. And Trash talk by Houston’s mayor may actually pump up the Sooners, not spook them.

    • SoonerOracle737 says:

Morning Mr Reed. Great day to be a Sooner.

    • J.r. Kamm says:

      Good morning, Mike!!

    • Stephen Dale says:

politicians aren’t stupid ! they keep getting elected for doing nothing because they understand the stupidity of the masses who continue to elect them to office…they understand they will get votes if they represent a SPECIFIC party ( democratic party, for instance ) cause that’s how their parents voted 30, 50, 100 yrs ago !! That’s what Hilary is counting on—the stupidity of the masses.

      • Randy Keller says:

        Republicans are clowns. Wake up

        • Lincoln Hawk says:

Hope for our country doesn’t rest in a candidate or a political party.

          • Stephen Dale says:

WHAT is really sad is this country hasn’t produced better candidates than what we , as voters, are left to choose from ……

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

Well the voters actually chose these candidates, not saying I agree with the way the country voted. For the first time, I may actually have to vote a third party just to keep my conscience clear. We will see if a third viable candidate emerges.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

You’ve got that right. There is a whole world outside of Politics that desperately needs our attention.

        • Jeff says:

Dems are worse, you wake up

        • Lincoln Hawk says:

I would normally take offense to that but I’m not sure I am a Republican anymore….very disappointed.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

We’ve had 7 years to get this right and we somehow messed it up. I may be chicken little when I say this, but I don’t think the Republican Party will win another election. Baby boomers are dying off and my generation couldn’t care less about most of the republican views. Scary thought, but I honestly believe it. I belong to a rotary group that meets at the UNLV campus and its littered with Billery and Berny crap, granted it is a college and that’s to be expected but still lol. Awful.

          • SquidGiant says:

Unfortunately by appealing to the most extreme groups the most extreme (-ly crazy) politicians rose to the top.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

            It’s ridiculous.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

I wouldn’t be surprised if a third party was created. We had so many promising candidates but the voters decided to just burn it all down instead.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

I wouldn’t doubt it. Something needs to change.

          • Tulsa Terry says:

            Let’s start the Sooner Party

        • Oscar says:

Clowns are clowns also. Floppy feet, hair sprayed red, giant red lips, big baggy jump suit of fun colors! and he coaches at taco tech and won’t release Baker.

      • stan H says:

That settles it I’m voting Democratic.

    • hOUligan says:

Just doing what politicians do…telling the mass what they want to hear…not necessarily the truth.

    • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

I want whatever the Houston mayor is smoking on! What a bafoon. My baby sis goes to UH and bless her little heart, because we are going to wax that ass. They replace way too much on defense. I think they score on us sure, bout our defense will get more stops than their Swiss cheese defense.

    • SquidGiant says:

Unfortunately, modernly politicians (Republicans and Democrats) represent businesses and the rich, but not the common man.

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

Houston has a good team but to say they are going to beat us by 2-3 TDs is just plain ignorant.

    • Ura Hogg says:

I say, ‘Keep talking Mr. Mayor.” OU teams under Bob Stoops tend to do much better with a chip on their shoulder.

      • SoonerMagic76 says:

Truth. I know I’ll sound like Stoops in a press conference, but….. “We’re only two years removed from beating Bama in the Sugar Bowl when nobody thought we could”

    • DCinAZ says:

They lost almost all of their veteran secondary and their best LB. LOL!!!

    • Stephen Dale says:

Houston could win by that margin in September if OU doesn’t take the game seriously…certainly a re-use of the 2015 RRS plan would put the 2016 team in jeopardy.

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

The more they talk, the sharper the Sooners will be when they play.

  • OceanDescender says:

To the Houston mayor: uh, no.

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

I’m curious how tickets will be sold for the Houston game since it’s not a technically a home game for either of us. Do they have to offer both teams an equal amount of tickets for sale?

    • BoomCity89 says:

When tickets first went on sale, you were able to pick and choose whatever you wanted. Though I’m sure you’ll have an OU crowd behind OU’s bench and a Houston crowd behind Houston’s bench. Then all the other seats should be a mix. Plus you’ll have a lot of people who are from the Houston area (that orange team and that maroon team) that will be rooting for Houston to win.

    • KatyOUdad says:

I believe OU is actually the “home team” as they are on the Texans bench. Tickets are through Ticketmaster and OU is on the west side.

  • SoonerMagic76 says:

Houston seems to have a rather impressive amount of confidence. “Go on to stiffer competition”????? Haha and who would that be that they will be playing??

    • BoomCity89 says:

Haha they really do. But this isn’t OU vs UH, it’s OU vs the city of Houston for this game. If you’re not a Sooner, then you’re rooting for UH…. big time.

    • DCinAZ says:

They’re sure flying high off of that win over FSU in which FSU turned the ball over to their offense 5 times. LOL!!!

    • SoonerMagic76 says:

Houston’s schedule in 2016… the rest of their games combined don’t qualify for “stiffer competition” than OU ———

      • hOUligan says:

Looks like an audition for the teams hoping to be included in B12 expansion.
        Houston…Cin…UConn…UCF….Tulane..Louisville…Memphis… pathetic.

        • Bob Edwards says:

I think you are on to something. The AAC Championship becomes the B12 play in game. Win and you get an invite to the B12. Hopefully we can arrange a similar deal with the rest of the P5 conferences where the B12 winner gets to move into one of them.

          • Tulsa Terry says:

Why not relegation like soccer leagues. AAC and MAC and Mountain West Champs get a spot in the Big 12 BIG and PAC while the last place teams in those power 5 go down

          • Bob Edwards says:

I might modify it some but I like the basic idea. I doubt it would get approved though.

        • SoonerMagic76 says:

          Truth

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

      Let them talk.

  • ⚡️Electric Sooner⚡️ says:

When will the PC police come after the name OKLAHOMA “Red People”, and say it is a derogatory term and harmful to the Native Americans? Maybe they already have and I’ve missed it.

    • Ura Hogg says:

I’m thinking the PC police might force people to stop wearing cowboy hats to Stillwater’s games. It could, and actually should, be offensive to real cowboys.

      • SoonerOracle737 says:

I’m waiting for the ASPCA to show first.

      • Stephen Dale says:

Ura Hogg : the boots are MANDATORY at all broke back Cowboy games !! sneakers, flipflops, sandels, etc won’t keep the peoples toes out of the manure around BPS or the GIA….One has to be wearing boots to avoid getting s*** on their toes.

        • Ura Hogg says:

You’re probably right, the boots are OSHA required PPE. And for those rooting for the Pokes, there should also be a mandatory paper bag worn over the head under that cowboy hat.

    • Stephen Dale says:

such talk has already infiltrated the OU campus, didn’t you know ? amongst some students trying to make a name for themselves a couple of weeks ago…..

    • RocketCitySooner says:

They already have. There used to be a student dressed in full war chief regalia who did a dance after each touchdown. “Little Red” is no longer on the side lines.

In the mid to late sixties, a fraternity at OU that honored the Old South claiming Robert E. Lee as their president, often flew a southern battle flag on their fraternity house. The fraternity is still there but there is no battle flag.

This fraternity also owned their own replica muzzle loading cannon. They brought the cannon to one game where they fired it after each touchdown. Much more impressive than the Rough Necks. Letters to the editor in the school paper protesting this display of southern pride. They were only there once.

      • ⚡️Electric Sooner⚡️ says:

So is the ultimate goal to change the State name from OKLAHOMA, to a more socially neutral name like Smith or Jones. Or is the ultimate goal not to have States, Country’s, or boarders, because they are offensive to some group of people?
I think it is called divide and conquer, and we are falling for it hook, line and sinker!

        • SoonerOracle737 says:

The PC Police are never satisfied. They will always need a grievance to pawn for their power hold.

        • RocketCitySooner says:

The main objective of the PC police is to get attention for their personal agenda.

        • OohRah Mama says:

Where is information regarding any group that advocates changing the state’s name? I’ve searched but haven’t seen that.

          • ⚡️Electric Sooner⚡️ says:

I haven’t seen it either that’s just what I heard.

      • Clay Davis says:

Yeah, it’s a good thing that the fraternity doesn’t fly the battle flag, and the full war chief regalia isn’t there. I would hope that bans wouldn’t be part of the solution though, that students and the university could talk it through.

    • SquidGiant says:

Do you think it changes the context considering that Oklahoma is Choctaw and was proposed by a Chief? I think that the University of Oklahoma should protect all races. Don’t you think this is more about what Native Americans find offensive than the “PC police”?

      • Ura Hogg says:

If you start down the path of PC you can’t even say “what Native Americans find offensive,” as if all Native Americans think alike.
Could you really say “What White Americans find offensive,” or “What Black Americans find offensive”? Stereotyping definitely isn’t PC.
PC has its place, but too often people don’t know when to stop.
And most definitely, all races deserve equal protection.

        • SquidGiant says:

You are certainly entitled to your own opinion, but the war against the PC police is to protect racist or offensive terms. The biggest problem with team names like the Redskins is that they weren’t created by Native Americans but the white majority. Creating a hypothetical problem and using it to criticize being politically correct is a questionable practice, and I think it is a poor representative of Oklahoma fans. Sure not all native americans find it offensive, but do we ignore the rest?

          • Ura Hogg says:

Why leave out the Vikings,Cowboys,49ers,Texans? Do you really think all cowboys approve of what Jerry Jones has done? LOL
Do all Texans support the team that chose to take their name?
Have the majority of descendants of the California gold rush miners really given their approval to the NFL team named after them?
The Vikings were real people as well with real descendants. Were they polled to see if they agree with Minnesota claiming them as the team mascot?
Guess teams better just stick to animals…but wait here come the animal rights activists, have you seen the Buffalo Bills’ team emblem? Isn’t that a bison getting killed?
            What to do? smh

          • SquidGiant says:

These are not actually issues though where is the anti-. It is ridiculous to compare these to term redskin. Worry about those when it’s actually an issue… this comparison is beyond silly. Darn PC people eventually I think they’l complain about his. Do you understand logic?

          • Ura Hogg says:

I’m not defending “redskin,” nor even Vikings for that matter. Why should any group of people be chosen as the mascot of a sports team without having a voice?
Just commenting on the PC movement and who it is that decides where to draw the line.
With the FSU decision, think about a real Seminole Indian in Florida who is proud to wear his headdress and support his team. Well, thanks to the PC movement, he doesn’t have that option anymore.
And yes, I do have Native American heritage, hope I get a voice too.

          • SquidGiant says:

I haven’t researched the statistics for the term Seminole, but according to the referenced poll 67% of Native Americans find the term Redskin offensive and it should be changed. If you really think that the terms Vikings, Cowboys and Texans will come under attack by the “PC police” you are a moron and you are drinking the kool-aid of the hateful. For the record I don’t think you believe that, which is why it is a dumb argument.

          • Ura Hogg says:

No hate here. Let’s all just get along. Have a good day.

          • SquidGiant says:

I don’t hate you or think you are a moron, but you don’t seem to understand that what makes a term racist, is how it is used. Look up derogatory. On this page it is commonly discussed that recruits or families of recruits could visit this page, and I can’t sit back while others support racism by downplaying the elimination of derogatory terms from common language. Your argument about other NFL names is ridiculous.

          • Ura Hogg says:

I’m not sure where you’ve seen “support” for racism on this page. Just about everyone has been a victim of some type of bigotry. There’s no room for any of it.

          • SquidGiant says:

See above comment. Your complaints about the PC movement are hypothetical, and quite frankly silly. The uproar about the name Oklahoma stems from the complaints about the name Redskins (which according to most Native Americans is racist.) If you really don’t support bigotry, research the name Oklahoma and the term Redskins, and recognize that most Native Americans consider it racist. You aren’t racist, you just support racist ideals…

          • SquidGiant says:

Also, if you are against hate, why are you so against removing hateful terms. Isn’t that hypocritical?

          • Ura Hogg says:

Just go back a few replies and you’ll see that I’m not a “Redskins” supporter. My comments were aimed at stepping back and seeing the big picture, not about “Redskins”, but rather about the PC movement in general. No offense intended, though it was taken.
            Have a good day.

          • SquidGiant says:

Removing hateful terms is what the “PC Police” are all about. Making non-existent complaints about removing derogatory terms is supporting hate whether you will acknowledge it or not. Support hate if you want, but we should analyze remnants of a hateful past. Have a good day…

You’re right. Unlike you, I hate racists and racism, and support more modern views.

          • Ura Hogg says:

You don’t know me as well as you think. Your statement shows that you don’t know me at all.
But hate-filled people are quick to jump to conclusions about others. Pretty soon everyone is their enemy, at least in their mind.

          • SquidGiant says:

Your actions speak louder than your words. Watch this, “the Earth is square.” I said it, but that doesn’t make it true. You’ve provided plenty of empirical evidence that you support bigotry. II’m the hateful one, and you’re mad about opposition to bigotry. You are a very humorous person.

          • Drew says:

Sorry man (or woman, or other; I’m not sexist), but the only bigot here is you. Ura has done nothing to indicate bigotry; you, on the other hand, didn’t hesitate to result to ad hominems.

          • SquidGiant says:

This is coming from someone who thinks that John Marshall high school is at the point of diminishing returns in educational spending. I know you don’t let facts get in your way. Also, criticizing being politically correct for arguments that the PC aren’t making is creating support for bigotry. PC has gone too far because they could try to support ________.

          • Ura Hogg says:

Hyperbole is a lost concept I see.
Some of my ancestors were included in those slaughters. My topic never was to defend the name “redskins”, rather a general attempt to lighten up those of the PC police who go a little too far so that we can’t call anyone short anymore, they are “vertically challenged.” And we don’t crown a champion, we hand out participation trophies to everyone, because “we’re all winners here.”
My attempt at backing away a few steps and looking at the broad topic of Political Correctness, with a little humor, obviously failed with a least a couple of posters.
            My sincere apologies.
You’ll never see me wear a Washington Redskins jersey nor call Dan Snyder a friend of mine.
Have a great day whatever your weight, height, skin color, or country of origin may be.

      • ⚡️Electric Sooner⚡️ says:

I think the PC Police use whatever group they can use to further there agenda. It doesn’t matter to them what they are offended about, eventually they will be done away with when the divide and conquer has reached fruition, just pawns used in a bigger game.

        • SquidGiant says:

          What is their agenda, equality?

        • SquidGiant says:

What is your agenda? What are you fighting to protect, the rights of the SAE?

          • ⚡️Electric Sooner⚡️ says:

My agenda is common sense, and I’m fighting to protect rational thought!

          • SquidGiant says:

You don’t think it’s rational to discard old racist terms? Interesting…

          • ⚡️Electric Sooner⚡️ says:

Are you saying OKLAHOMA is a racist term? I’m Shoshone and I don’t think it is a racist term or doesn’t it matter what I think is a racist term. Just what the PC Police think is a racist term?

          • SquidGiant says:

If you read my message you will notice that I never implied Oklahoma is a racist term. Actually, I think it’s pretty stupid to compare the term Redskin to Oklahoma for the reasons I listed above. You cannot seem to separate protecting the rights of all Americans to intrusion. What is the worst thing that can happen by dropping old terms like “redskin.” Offending less people? So you think that you represent the majority of native americans? Instead you have used a hypothetical situation to create an anti-PC movement. Using a pretend situation to support your argument is not rational or common sense.
            http://cips.csusb.edu/docs/PressRelease.pdf

          • ⚡️Electric Sooner⚡️ says:

OKLAHOMA comes from the Choctaw words “Okla” and “humma” meaning “red people” the red doesn’t mean hair color it means red skin. So according to your logic Oklahoma is a racist word. Would you be ok with changing the name of the Redskins to Red people?

          • SquidGiant says:

Languages don’t translate directly. My logic is that the translation is different in Choctaw, and is not a derogatory term. Redskin is an english term that is derogatory. That is what is at the center of this discussion and where I reject your claims. You have to consider connotation and what is a derogatory term. Sure, being politically correct can go too far, but we aren’t there yet in America. Look at the SAE, racism is still alive and well, and that is a problem.

          • ⚡️Electric Sooner⚡️ says:

i think I have found an area of agreement with you on your last sentence. BOOMER!!

        http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/15608840/native-americans-say-unbothered-redskins-team-name-washington-post-poll
As you can see, you have to be careful when trying to speak for all Native Americans and what they “find offensive”. Each has his/her own opinion. All don’t agree with you, all don’t agree with me.

        • SquidGiant says:

Seriously, 14 days later? Who ever tried to speak for all Native Americans? You pointed to a poll of 504 people. Did you read the article?

“Native Americans are resilient and have not allowed the NFL’s decades-long denigration of us to define our own self-image,” wrote Oneida Nation Representative Ray Halbritter and National Congress of American Indians Executive Director Jackie Pata. “However, that proud resilience does not give the NFL a license to continue marketing, promoting, and profiting off of a dictionary-defined racial slur — one that tells people outside of our community to view us as mascots.”
The results of the poll are being reported in a way that favors the Washington Redskins. The question asked if they were bothered by it, which is a matter of pride. If you can’t understand that “Oklahoma” doesn’t translate to a slur, but the name Redskins is based on a slur, then you are being foolish. This is not opinion, it is based on historical context.

          • Ura Hogg says:

The search for knowledge, and understanding of viewpoints continues, even 14 days later.
This well-written article showed both sides of the topic. The PC police only have room for their side of all issues.
May understanding of others’ viewpoints on both sides of issues lead to peace.
            Have a great day brother.

          • SquidGiant says:

The search for knowledge can only take you so far when you have such poor reading comprehension. By the way the answer to my question is, you. You are the one trying to speak for all native Americans. If you read that quote I posted by the Congress of American Indians Executive Director Jackie Pata, the vote about not being offended isn’t an endorsement of the name, but it is now being used in that fashion. Truly disgusting…

          • Ura Hogg says:

Cool. I will take your opinion into account when I consider how people feel about these issues. You only get one voice though, your own. Have a great day!

          • SquidGiant says:

I’m not sure you really know what my opinion is. What I really suggested was that the comparison of Oklahoma to the team name is ridiculous. Also, the same poll shows that 43% of Native Americans find the name offensive to some degree. I do respect the opinion of that 43%. If you want to take something away from this you should really just learn to be more suspicious of internet headlines.

          • Ura Hogg says:

Same here in regard to respecting that 43%. I’m just not forgetting that other 57% either. I think we both agree that poll numbers can be twisted to support or reject just about anything. I still come to the same conclusion: people have a right to their opinion and the pc police shouldn’t be too quick to put muzzles on those with differing points of view. However, I definitely acknowledge that some good has been done by the political correctness movement.
            Have a great day.

          • SquidGiant says:

You do realize that the opinion of the 57% was never neglected, hence the continued use if the team name.

          • SquidGiant says:

Look, I apologize for being insulting. That was my way of trying to get you to drop the argument. I will try to remember in the future to instead respond with a redirection to Sooner Football, our common bond.

Getting Houston that early is going to be a tough test.

Ohio State. They’ve may have lost a lot of upper classmen but it isn’t like the cupboard is bare. They’ve got a TON of talent. We’ll have a fight on our hands.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

We’ll have a lot of tough games next year. Houston. Ohio State. Texas. Baylor. And you never know about TCU and OSU. There is a reason we have a top 2-3 schedule in the country next year, and it’s not just b/c we play Houston and Ohio State.

Good thing is, I think if we can get thru those first 4-5 games, and we’ll finish strong.

      • Ura Hogg says:

The seamy underbelly which has been coming to light about Briles’ Bears will likely have an effect on not only recruiting, but the whole demeanor of his team. I’m thinking this is the year Baylor, while still loaded with talent, takes a step or two back toward where they belong.

        • SoonerOracle737 says:

Could happen, but I worry about a deadly accurate QB with talented WR’s scoring tons of points. Off the field stuff could diminish their season, but then again it could be a rallying cry for them as a team and further motivate them. But, I don’t know which is more likely. But I do know they will score tons of points.

          • Ura Hogg says:

The details that have emerged thus far seem to make it unlikely to turn this in to any type of rallying cry for the team. That usually only happens if the team can focus on some outside source as the enemy. In these cases however, the scandals are seeds sown by Baylor itself whether it be the crimes or the coverups.
But you are definitely right about Baylor’s ability to score. It’s past time for a defensive coordinator to get that rubik’s cube figured out and just shut’em down.

        • DCinAZ says:

They lost their entire Oline except one returning starter and all of their defensive talent.
