Made it in! Read through – thanks Jordan. Still too busy – have to run. Good morning to all you great TFBers! I hope to catch up later.

  • cdzendolet says:

Boomer Sooner, everyone! 115 days until the season starts up, but who’s counting?

I hope Striker dominates on the Bills this year. Prove everyone wrong like Tony Jefferson did.

  • Sooner Ray says:

    Bad Moms….YES!

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

    Morning all. Mila Kunis….mmmmmhhhhhmmmmm!

  • SoonerMagic76 says:

Striker is absolutely one of my favorite Sooners ever. Such an easy guy to root for

  • SoonerMagic76 says:

Whenever I see people like Trotter, getting paid substantial amounts to watch and discuss sports, make comments like

“data… shows having 12 teams with an 8 game conference schedule is best model league model for reaching CFP”,

all I can do is think to myself

“I can make that kind of comment in exchange for watching sports all day”

    • Jordan Esco says:

To be fair, my comment was directed at Bowlsby, the source of the quote, not Trotter.

Just wanted to make that clear.

      • SamSooner says:

Jordan, did you miss me? I’m back to add some flavor.
Oh, we need a BOOM! today or news that hints at a BOOM!

I was in Sermon’s neck of the woods last week. I wore my OU gear.

      • SoonerMagic76 says:

I definitely understand, good clarification. Certainly not a bashing of what Trotter said. I understand Trotter was doing his job and reporting the facts, I just want it known I wouldn’t mind doing the same!

      • AgedBill says:

I am sure Bowlsby is aware of the obvious, but there are some Big XII schools that are trying to protect their income and don’t want to take any chances that there may be in expansion. These are the people Bowlsby must make a very strong case to. Unfortunately, those schools don’t have much chance to go to the playoffs in the foreseeable future, so that isn’ as big a concern to them as it is to others. They have been very short-sighted up to this point.

  • SamSooner says:

Good morning, TFB friends. I’ve been out of pockets. The way my day is stacking up, I will have limited access today. Expect very few comments from me. I’ll do my best to contribute.

    How goes it everyone?

    • metzker says:

Busy for all it seems. What up,Sam!!!!!!!!

      • Lincoln Hawk says:

Metz, shouldn’t you be in a meeting? We need an a.m. Open Post!!!

      • SamSooner says:

It’s been non-stop. I like what I do for a living but we’ve implemented some ridiculous requirements to do your job done. I’m like: who makes up this stuff. The one good thing is that it’s giving me good material for the leadership book I’m writing.

How goes it with you, Metz?

        • metzker says:

          Just busy,push,push,push!

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

Are you in labor Metz? LOL

          • SamSooner says:

            Good one, Lincoln.

          • metzker says:

            hahahaha

          • SamSooner says:

There are times I get so tired of this rat race. There are times I want to walk away. I despise idiots and unreasonable idiots, as if these two are not synonymous, are the worst idiots.

          • Stephen Dale says:

you can exact your revenge by staying on the job. remembering these same types run our country is a sobering thought. you aren’t the only one fighting the same battle so there are plenty of brethren who fight the urge to step away but simply can’t or won’t…..

        • Lincoln Hawk says:

“Surround yourself with the best people you can find, delegate authority, and don’t interfere as long as the policy you’ve decided upon is being carried out.” -Ronald Reagan

One of my favorite quotes about leadership.

          • SamSooner says:

It’s the people who are above me who are the problem.

You have to build a team with people who possess strengths you don’t have. You have to unselfish and create trust within your team.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

Fortunately, I don’t have to answer to many except God, my wife, the IRS and those pesky General Contractors (looking at you Metz). LOL

          • SamSooner says:

You keep poking Metz with that stick, don’t you?

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

He takes it so well it’s hard not to.

          • SamSooner says:

He is a good sport. I’m taking him out to dinner when I come out that way.

          • metzker says:

Just wait tell im off probation!!!!!!!!!!!

          • SamSooner says:

Why would you wait that long? You probation is for lifetime.

          • metzker says:

WHATTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You said tell season started.

          • SamSooner says:

Seems like a lifetime, doesn’t it?

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

It goes okay. Thanks for asking. Busy is usually a good thing

    • Collin says:

      Morning Sam!

It’s okay! I don’t think I got to comment at all yesterday. Monday was a whirlwind of a day.

      • SamSooner says:

        Morning, Collin!!

I was on a plane all of last week: Detroit and then Georgia.

        • Collin says:

No wonder I didn’t see you on here much last week. Metz has been holding it down for yah haha.

          • SamSooner says:

I shiver at the thought of Metz holding things down.

Metz, my friend, I didn’t see you standing there! LOL!

    • Stephen Dale says:

sounds like it is going to be a long, typical Tuesday.

    • Slim Sooner says:

Morning, Sam! It’s a beautiful day on the prairie. Looking for googly eyes and counting down to Gameday.

      • SamSooner says:

I can’t wait for BC to start posting his countdown photos.

        • Slim Sooner says:

Soon, if he blesses with us with em I hope. Wonder why Golf has been missing in action lately? Can’t remember if he said he’d be gone a while.

        • BleedCrimson says:

I have been looking forward to #99 since spring practices ended!

    • BleedCrimson says:

Afternoon Sam. I am finally back home after spending the last week and a half at my fathers after having a disc replaced in my lower neck. No internet and only local channels was extremely difficult when I couldn’t do anything but lay around and read. Heck, even the phone coverage was limited. ON the positive side, did get to see some geese and chickens hatch and a calf being borne. At least the animals were productive! 🙂

      • SamSooner says:

I hope you’re okay, friend. I wish you a speedy recovery.

I miss that lifestyle. Simple, no stress, no worries.

        • BleedCrimson says:

Thanks Sam. What some guys will do to get some off time!!! lol
The relaxation for good for the first couple of days, now I beginning to look forward to being able to be a productive citizen again.
Doc is real happy with my progress. I am real happy with his work. I was expecting a lot more difficulty with recovery. Was told he was one of the more talented Neurosurgens in OKC, I have to agree.

  • SamSooner says:

    Repost:

There is a nameless idiot who is already spouting his mouth about Striker’s best options. STFU!!!!!

Jesse Tuggle was an undersized LB who played at a college in South Georgia, Valdosta State, that received less recognition than both high schools in the area: Valdosta High School and Lowndes County High School. Valdosta High is one of the winningest and most lauded high schools in the U.S. They have 24 state championships and 6 national championships.

Look up Jesse Tuggle’s NFL stats and tell me if he let his size get in the way. I hate it when folks tell people what they can’t do. You don’t know jack, if you think you do.

    • soonerguy421 says:

there are 100 5’11 linebackers who never make it for every Jesse Tuggle out there

      • SamSooner says:

The longer something doesn’t happen the more it’s overdue. I’ll never tell a person they can’t do something. I will encourage them and see what happens.

      • BleedCrimson says:

There are a 100 6′ 3″ linebackers who never make it for every one that does.

    • Okie403 says:

I can remember exact name but wasn’t there a smaller backer ..,Sam Mills …played for saints ?

    Over or under $35,000
Spent on research consulting and research fees

    • Lincoln Hawk says:

      Depends, was the government involved?

      • Bob Edwards says:

Most of the schools involved are governments schools. Plus most very large organizations operate in ways indistinguishable from the government except that they can’t use armed men to enforce their will. The actual government won’t let them do that because it doesn’t like the competition.

        • SamSooner says:

          Good morning, Bob!

          • Bob Edwards says:

Morning Sam. We have been missing your smiling face (I can always see it through your words).

          • SamSooner says:

            Bob, thanks!

I’ve been crazy busy. Work is driving me bonkers. School is coming to a close so I’m staying on the kids to make sure they finish strong.

And, it’s always nice to see your smiling face.

    • Okie403 says:

Consultant=someone hired to tell you the time off your own watch

      • Jed says:

Anyone hiring a consultant is acknowledging that they do not know anything about that which the contractor is being hired to do.
I had sales staff who hired a consultant once. Fired them and hired the consultant.
        Stopped that BS cold.

    • jimintexas says:

      over

    • Dick Bump says:

      Over. Way over.

      • Birddawg says:

Ya more I think about it was stupid money spent on this..

        • Dick Bump says:

More than likely money paid for justification to do what they wanted to do all along. Looks like the Big 12 is morphing into a 21st century SWC. Look for boring games, harder to recruit, and easier to win the conference and move on. Pluses and minuses I guess.

    • Lincoln Hawk says:

I wonder how much they spent on a consultant to figure out which consultant to use?

    • SoonerinLondon says:

      Way over.

  • BigJoeBrown says:

In other news, the Big 12 reports that a sandwich is best eaten between two slices of bread rather than one and when the sun is out it gets bright outside.

  • Cincysooner says:

Is it just me, was i the only one excited to see samaje running the bases and making stop and go action in that video. That looks like he is healing very fast, if that is how he is doing right now.

  • Matt says:

if you really look at it, OU didn’t start installing the 3-4 until the 2013 season so the first recruiting class to try and fit that mold would be the 2014 class. The class with Bolton, Tay Evans and Devante Bond and then Courtney Garnett and Dwayne Orso. The Sooners really have only been recruiting to the 3-4 for 3 seasons and only 2 of those classes are currently on campus. I think the staff and roster will continue to fit the mold and be comfortable in this defense. I’m talking myself into good things this season more and more….

    • Bob Edwards says:

If you are going to actually look at data and make rational observations on it, you are going to undermine the entire foundation upon which social media is based.

  • Matt says:

also, I’m wondering if the scheme this year is going to look a lot like it did in 2013 with a 3 man line plus Striker and then Wilson at the other OLB spot but this year with Obo replacing Striker and Johnson replacing Wilson. That was a pretty good year it was just soft in the middle due to two freshman and a sophomore playing there. This year could be better with more experienced linebackers and lineman than we had in 2013.

    • Bob Edwards says:

What I have been calling this defense is the 3-3-4 +1. Mike seems to be trying to create a scheme where he can tweek based on the opponent. He has a base and then uses an extra guy in the position needed most for that opponent. Sometimes it will be an extra DL, LB, or DB. At other times he will use a hybrid DE/LB or LB/S. This gives him the ability to adjust to the different offenses and the hybrid guys allow him to change formations without changing personnel against the hurry up offenses. I think what we look like will depend on who our best eleven players turn out to be and what kind of offenses we end up playing.

It will be interesting to see if he can make it work. My fear is that it ends up being a Swiss Army Knife, able to do everything but not really great at anything.

      • Matt says:

yeah agreed. I think to do that you have to have great hybrid players and I don’t know that OU has them right now.

        • Bob Edwards says:

And maybe that was just a transition step and now that we seem to be getting better at recruiting we will go with more pure players at those position. What I describe could have just been an intermediate position between the 4-3 and the 3-4 designed to use the players we had during the transition..

      • Birddawg says:

        Yup, I like that 3-3-4+1
In a perfect world the 3-4 is best used when you have an unknown 4th rusher that cant be identified by the qb. To do that, you need at least 2 players that can drop and rush. The wide splits of WRs these days is making it harder to put guys at the LOS. and there’s not many guys with size/strength to set edge and speed/awarness to either carry WRs to safeties or man on rbs. Those guys get paid millions in NFL (Watt, Houston)
Since defense is always a few years behind. Mike is developing a D that can get the most of his players awhile being flexible against different schemes especially this Baylor scheme which many schools are incorporating now.
IMO, We need more two dimensional players. Easier said than done.. Most coveted players obv. The addition of Kelly, Jackson, Gallimore, Bledsoe, and PJ. Those players I’m keeping my eye on as the future of our 3-3-4+1.

      • soonersd says:

Good input, Bob. I share the same fear and hope that he can make it work.

Dealing with Big 12 offenses and scheduling tough non conference games every year does put a lot pressure on Mike to find a way to cater defense to the offenses we face throughout a season, for sure.

      • Coach JK says:

Just been lurking for some time now, but I had to chime in on this comment. You are exactly right. Most teams now days never run a straight base defense. We are no exception. With the new spread innovative offenses we see now your defensive coordinators must devise defenses that are flexible and able to adjust to any and every thing thrown at them.

  • Matt says:

Don’t agree with it at all, though. I really doubt he’s scared of competition, and would bet it motivates him more than anything. What Sam is actually upset about is the mortgaging of the team’s near future for his replacement. Instead of drafting him an OL or WR or two, to help him help the team this year, they wrote of the next couple of years.

      • Fear The Magic says:

I happen to agree with you. Im pretty sure that Sam feels he can hold on to the starting job for a couple of years. It must piss him off no end that he got no help from the draft at all. Thats been the story of his whole career in the NFL really.
I just thought that coming from an ex QB ( Quinn ) that his take on it was kind of interesting.

      • BleedCrimson says:

I was hoping they were upping their draft to get a dynamite OL. Wasn’t it Tunsil that was rated so high?
