FOOTBALL (FREE)

No real surprise here, assuming the report is accurate (and considering the source of said report that’s usually an iffy proposition). If Baylor did anything, Starr being the fall guy was always the most likely scenario. Briles is teflon so long as he keeps winning football games. So should you be disappointed? Yes. Disgusted? Sure. But surprised? Sadly, no.

Baker Mayfield checks in at No. 2

I’m gonna need someone to explain to me why anyone should give a s#$% about what this guy has to say about anything, let alone expansion.

OTHER

Outstanding.

Should be a quality b-ball match up.

It’s the story that….

….just won’t die.

Of course Starr is the fall guy. Baylor would never both removing someone who is actually making them nationally known by winning football games. Sad stuff

Maybe he will go back to Clinton.

I agree with Jordan listening to McCombs on B12 expansion makes about as much sense as listening to any major star/entertainer about politics.

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

      Truth. Morning Ruck

    • Bob Edwards says:

McCombs is one of the power brokers at UT. If he is saying this it represents a crack in the UT facade regarding expansion. Though I am not sure UT is against expansion per se, as long as they can keep LHN and their money.

      • Ura Hogg says:

McCombs is likely throwing Houston out there as a means of making it seem like UT isn’t preventing the Big 12 from expanding. No doubt also he’s got plenty of buddies down in Houston, business and otherwise, and these comments would go over well with them.
Agree fully with your last comments, if Texsa can keep the LHN and their money, they don’t really care what the conference does. They would say, “Sure, why not Houston if the conference is really going to expand.”

      • Rick says:

I am often wrong in my musings Bob, but it seems to me guys like McCombs and Pickins makes a lot of noise within their own school, but as far as the conference goes, they don’t hold much water.

        • Bob Edwards says:

Yes, but since UT is blocking expansion, network etc him making noise at UT is significant to the conference.

      • SoonerinLondon says:

        Good point.

Regardless, this is all about the LHN. If the LHN stays, the Big XII is untenable for OU over the long term.

    • Oscar says:

      But.. but …but …but …George Clooney is a political genius!!! /s

  • Jeremy Phillips says:

If you can’t steal 2 power fives, there is no need to expand. The Pac12 may actually give us a big assist in doing that too.. Arizona/Arizona St. could be ripe for the picking if they so choose..

    • Rick says:

I agree to a certain level. Picking up a couple of Pac12 schools might do wonders for recruiting in Cali, but OMG, can you think of the implications of recruiting adding a UCF. That would be my main exception to a power five addition. Florida kids would be ripe for the taking.

  • Defend Colfax says:

    Baylor is trash.

    • Rick says:

You’re giving them too much credit!

    • Sooner Ray says:

The kind that should be burned in a barrel.

      • Ura Hogg says:

I could be proven wrong, but I don’t see this huge mess being something that his team will just be able to shrug off and keep winning. The coaching staff, players, and opposing teams will all be affected throughout this season I believe.

        • Rick says:

I can hear the locker room speaches now, “it’s ok now men, we got rid of Starr”.

        • SamSooner says:

Hogg, I’m with you. He can’t walk away from this without a scratch. He knew too much and did too little.

          • Stephen Dale says:

Briles has done what he was hired to do : toughen up the program and make Baylor a household ‘name’ again…..i’ll be surprised if the BOR fires him…………..

        • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

I think they have a down year this next season not because of the elephant in the room, but because they replace both starting lines from last season. Ppl are starting to figure out their offense and they’ve yet to take that leap on the defensive side of the ball. Sure they will score, but TCU, Texsa and OUr boys have enough beef to shut them down.

          • Stephen Dale says:

Baylor does return two quality QB’s however to lighten the blow of rebuilding the linemen…..Baylor could be the favorite to win the league this year unless that honor falls to Texas…..

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Ok Stephan and we saw what happens when a good QB has a shitty line protecting him, with Mayfield last season. They had no defense to begin with and now they have to replace the decent guys they had last season? Ok. I’ll take that all day long.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

I’m also pretty sure they gave up 12 sacks in a spring game for goodness sakes.

      • Jeff says:

Like Traber said 12 years ago Kick Baylor out of the Big 12

        • Ura Hogg says:

Then he was saying to kick them out because they stunk on the field. Now they stink off the field. Give’em the boot!

        • Rick says:

          Traber actually said something intelligent??????????????/

  • Sooner Ray says:

Free State of Jones looks promising.

    • Rick says:

I want to hate on McConaughy, but he really is a pretty decent actor. I have some friends that live in the country west of Laurel, in Jones Co. They are still proud of their heritage as being the only county in the nation that would not take sides in the war. Living where they were with tensions and emotions running high from both sides of the argument meant the small county of Jones in Mississippi were incredibly courageous to stand up to everyone else.

      • paganpink says:

He’s certainly the best former UT cheerleader in the business! And all joking aside I had no idea that any county had refused to pick a side in the civil war. Oklahoma didn’t either, of course, but we weren’t officially a state until about 40 years later.

        • Rick says:

According to my buds that live there, Mississippi let each county choose as they saw fit. Jones county chose not to choose.

          • Ura Hogg says:

You wouldn’t know that any part of Mississippi was separate from the Confederacy by looking at it’s flag. They are still holding on to those inset confederate stripes.

          • Rick says:

It’s funny there is so much made of that flag, how it’s called the “confederate flag”, when in reality it was not. What is referred to as the “confederate flag” is actually the battle flag of northern virginia. It was a flag used to rally confederate troops in the field. The actual, original conferate flag looked nothing like what is portrayed today.

        • Rick says:

According to my buds that live there, Mississippi let each county choose as they saw fit. Jones county chose not to choose.

        • AgedBill says:

Oh yes we did. That is why tribes lost a lot of land.

  • Ura Hogg says:

    Mornin’ Sooner Brainiacs.
I’ve been wondering if Austin Seibert might be available to put on a little kicking exhibition during the next Thunder game. Bring Seibert and Mr. Green onto the court during half-time and let Seibert do some “leg flailing”, which according to the NBA is part of the game, while they both go up for a rebound.
    BOOMER!!!

    • paganpink says:

LOL! Imagine what it feels like to be kicked in the nadz by a man that has spent years working hours and hours a day in developing the power of that one leg to its maximum potential! There really would be no chance of baby Green thugs being born!

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

Red McCombs, proof money trumps all in CFB.

  • SoonerinLondon says:

    Baylor, LOL. No surprise there.

As I said the other day; “Baylor are looking for a President the football coach can be proud of.”

  • sracer says:

Think bringing Houston into the Big 12 is a fantastic idea, as long as my Sooner are gone to another.

    • Mark_in_VA says:

    • Stephen Dale says:

Not a great idea since OU isn’t going anywhere….Boren , most likely, has already given his approval to accepting Houston……

  • SamSooner says:

Jordan, although you’re probably right, I’m going to have to disagree with you: Briles will be gone. It has to happen. The role he played (he chose to be silent when he had information) will be the final nail. Briles will get the kiss of death. (Where the hell is Jenni Carlson and that drum she likes to beat?)

The only time women are safe to walk the Baylor campus is when there’s a football game, unless you’re a female who holds a position that requires you to be on the sideline.

    • cush creekmont says:

I HOPE you are right, Sam. Baylor and Briles give the 12-2 a nasty image, but I doubt the 12-2 “commissioner” will act against Briles (unless the U of texsa tells him to) if Baylor pays with Starr.

      • SamSooner says:

There certainly appear to be multiple agendas going on. I would say you’re right about texsa’s influence over Bowlsby. I mean, look at Red McCombs statement: give me Houston and you can pick the second team to join the Big XII: arrogant ass. I’d like to meet him just to tell him his influence and power has a limit.

Kick Bowlsby out with Baylor: Baylor should be asked to leave or tell them to get out.

        • cush creekmont says:

I have already stated that this is reason enough for Boren to just take OU somewhere, anywhere to get out. I know he wants BI6, but if he can’t get that, he needs to tell the SEC that we will come now or never to get away from the scum floating on the 12-2.

          • SamSooner says:

You are exactly right: when someone vomits or poop in the pool, the whistle goes off and everyone exits. There’s no way you can avoid the vomit and s**t that Baylor has left in the pool.

          • cush creekmont says:

Graphic, Sam, but accurate in this instance. When we finally see what BU does, what the 12-2 commissioner does, then if Briles remains, I WILL write President Boren urging him to take OU from the conference, and I will urge others to do so also.

Being part of a football-problem conference is one thing, being part of criminal corruption is beyond the pale.

          • SoonerGoneEast says:

            Dang.

          • SamSooner says:

With everything going on in this conference, coupled with the evidence that the Big XII is dysfunctional, Baylor has caused the Big XII to topple into the bramble bush and the nation continue to watch, wait for what is to come next.

          • SamSooner says:

            Play on words, I see.

          • Oscar says:

Yep. Playing at Baylor and TCU in front of small crowds is nothing like what playing in the Big or SEC would be like every weekend. 85 to 110 thousand every weekend, not 45.

          • Bob Edwards says:

            SEC 78,630
            Big Ten 66,008
            Big 12 57,347
            Pac 12 51,880
            ACC 49,033.

But how relevant is that when TV $$$ are what drives the truck.

          • Oscar says:

“Boren says he’s received materials form 25 schools regarding expansion. “There’s a lot of interest in this conference.”
sure, but any that we would want?

          • SamSooner says:

Maybe the material referring to expansion he speaking of is OU to another conference. Something to ponder.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Exactly, Oscar. I couldn’t care less if the number was 45 teams if none are power5 teams. The fact we haven’t been at the forefront in anything just shows what a dumpster fire this conference really is. I just don’t think adding two crappy group of 5 teams will bluster the conference but rather water us down.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Pay the exit fee (which is chump change in the grand scheme of things) and let’s brush our hands clean and start fresh. We already recruit nationally and a move to the SEC would be nightmarish for Texas schools as well as the SEC schools. We got a taste of what it would be like week in and week out against Tennessee and the buzz surrounding that game week. Come on OU brass, we can do this!

          • Bob Edwards says:

            There is no exit fee.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Well then what the hell are we doing?

          • Bob Edwards says:

An exit fee would be simple. The B12 binds its schools by tying their revenues to the conference. The conference owns all of theit tier one and tier two media rights. They then sell them to FOX, ESPN, or whoever. They then take all the money and divide that among the teams.

So if we leave the conference, they continue to be able to sell our media rights but they don’t share the money with us. Right now that amounts to around 250 million dollars in lost money. That’s a lot larger than even the 50 million dollar fee the ACC has. It also makes us almost worthless to the conference we are going to since we won’t have media rights they can bundle into their deal and get more money.

There are games that could be played, but they are a lot more complex than just raising a few million and leaving.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Makes perfect sense, Bob. Thanks for elaborating. How would the conference we would be joining not gain the TV revenue? Is it simply contractual and we have X amount of years remaining with the big12 or what?

          • Bob Edwards says:

It’s called a Grant of Rights or GOR. It extends to around 2025. There are a number of complexities, but not even a lawyer could tell you for sure if they would work. If we were to leave before then, it will probably involve a court case.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Figured as much. Dumping cash into a firms hand just to try and find a loophole doesn’t seem too efficient or smart lol. I guess we just ride it out and see what happens. I just know that if we expand the excuses will still be out there as to why the big12 is ass and really still only has 10 teams or some crazy excuses. The puppets At ESPN will continue to do anything to speak in a negative manner towards us. I firmly believe we are easily the second or third best conference, but we all had very young teams last year. I personally think the BIG is a 1 man show. The PAC whatever has no dominate team and the ACC is Clemson and FSU. Like I’ve said before, it’s the perception that’s killing this conference.

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Well, how did Neb and Col, A&M/Mizzou get out what was their cost/loss?

      • metzker says:

        Cush.

    • metzker says:

      Indeed,and morning, Sam

    • jimintexas says:

I would normally agree with you. And logic says you are right. Baylor fans were weird and delusional before all of this. In the old days they had a rabid rivalry with aTm. Problem was that aTm did not care.

They are committed to win at any cost. I believe they will sacrifice someone. Say that Briles did not know. They are sorry that the same thing that goes on at campuses across the country, also happens at Baylor and they are surprised and dismayed. But, now they will have processes to ensure it does not happen again. Because they really, really, really do care

That would be the desire of the dozens of Baylor fans I know.

      • SamSooner says:

Jim, I hope to hell they don’t do this. I have two daughters. I would want to know my daughters are in an environment that is safe. If they are not safe in college, amongst people who are seeking enlightenment, we are in a world of hurt.

Briles will be gone because the enrollment will drop. It’s all about the money.

        • jimintexas says:

I doubt their enrollment will drop. My cousins would not go to any other school, for any reason. It is a world of “close your eyes and it isn’t real” people.

When my son was being recruited by Baylor, >15 years ago, he was totally turned off by their “we are special” attitude. And, I was glad.

        • Stephen Dale says:

if the Baylor BOR will be patient, the ‘heat ‘ will eventually evaporate. a new crop of women will be on campus this fall and the athletes will have new game to pursue…..

  • OceanDescender says:

I think with what happened to JoePa in the wake of the Sandusky scandal, there is precedence for the hammer to come down hard on Art Briles. If it doesn’t, then that university is very truly broken.

    • Ura Hogg says:

Art Briles is totally attached to this scandal. It’s now on his resume’. Is Baylor really going to conclude that keeping him around is in the best interest of the program? It’s hard to imagine them reaching that conclusion.

      • OceanDescender says:

Well it seems like there’s a common sense, right thing to do answer to that question or a keep the football team relevant at any cost answer to that question. I just hope the Baylor administration chooses the correct one (not entirely confident that they will).

        • SamSooner says:

If the students and parents start to protest on campus, and protest before games, that might put pressure on them.

          • OceanDescender says:

I would love to see that. People in Waco standing with the families and standing up for the victims and potential victims rather than offering blind support to an admittedly very successful program recently. It’s what that town needs.

          • SamSooner says:

          • Rick says:

There have been numerous articles written within the convention, an outpouring of concern by both the Texas Baptist convention and the national Southern Baptist convention. There is a lot of pressure being put on the school by Baptists nationwide to “fix it”. They feel something is broken at Baylor and needs to be repaired. The students at Baylor had an all night prayer vigil at the Presidents residence (Starr’s house) for the victims. There is enormous pressure being placed on the Regents to make it happen. I have no insight on what is being done, or what the plans are, I just know of the outrage within the Church body. Members are not happy. I am a member of the SBC (although my wife and I don’t identify ourselves as Baptist’s anymore, nothing to do with the Church itself, more to do with personal changes of opinions regarding doctrine). I personally want things fixed, the victims vindicated (as far as a rape victim can be vidicated), and responsible persons of action or administration be brought to justice. It seems to me that after having read what went on in the title IX hearings for the ladies that there needs to be some work done in the title IX area as well. How the heck can an individual be pardoned in one of these hearings and then be convicted in a court of law is inexcusable.

          • SamSooner says:

Rick, very insightful post and I’m glad to see that there are people who are not accepting this as status quo. If this happened once, I would probably not have a comment. My only thought would be similar to yours; proper vindication and proper justice.

However, this is multiple accusations dating back 5 years ago. When you couple this with the basketball scandal, it’s hard to deny there are cultural misgivings. The benefits of a successful sports program has caused the leadership at Baylor to look the other way, accepting the pervasive nature and growth of crabgrass, firmly rooted, and spreading in the absence of morals (grass). Crabgrass grows where there is a vacancy (morals and decency) and will reach and creep until it has bullied, choked and dispatched what you really want from your lawn.

The only thing the leaders at Baylor can do now is mow and trim their crabgrass. It will look pretty but everyone who walks by your lawn will know that all you have is a weed, even if it’s green and called grass.

          • Rick says:

Sam, the analogy of crabgrass is interesting, but cancer is more accurate in my opinion. Knowing the culture of Baylor in recent years is disturbing (understating the obvious). If anyone in the Church ever asks me, which they won’t, but if they did my first suggestion would be emphatically, HELP THOSE GIRLS!!!!! Everything else is secondary.

          • SamSooner says:

“HELP THOSE GIRLS!!!!” brings it into focus. There needs to be a hash-tag with that caption on it. Very good, Rick.

          • Ura Hogg says:

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

When the National News Media outside of sports media pursues the story the lid will blow off of this thing and the proverbial house will come down. That is my predicition.

      • SamSooner says:

        Ding! Ding! Ding!

Give that man a prize. Hogg, you’re so right: this is attached to Briles resume, along with the cheating of his assistance that happened under his watch.

      • SoonerGoneEast says:

Resume? Try rap sheet, his complicity demands it.

I’m waiting patiently to see what else comes out. As terribly bad as this program has been managed, there’s got to be more.

While streaming seems brilliant, it’s not a good idea. Even if the Big XII pulled it off. The only reason someone would stream content is because you’re not at home. The wifi connections at remote locations is spotty, to say the least. When was the last time you didn’t run into issues when streaming video when you are away from home? And if you’re at home, why are you streaming?

    • Birddawg says:

Lots of people are cutting the cord.. I did. (love it)
If you were going to tell me that I could add a big 12 network to my channel list without a contract. I would find that pleasing.
But it doesn’t make much difference if people are spending $150+ on a bazillion channels.

      • SamSooner says:

        Good morning, Birddawg.

I like the idea of streaming. But the network infrastructure it would take to get the content to rural America might never exist.

        • Birddawg says:

          Good mornin!
That’s true. I’m assuming the only way to get high speed internet out there would be satellites. That’s a huge capital investment. Not sure how that will work. All you can hope for is tech continuing to innovate eventually create more competitors to give the rural sector more options.
I believe Golf said he had one choice of internet and that was it…not much of incentive to innovate if you’re the only provider out there.

          • Bob Edwards says:

When the government defined “competition” for the purposes of regulation they decided that a ISP has a competitor if their is another one in the same county. So basically two or three of the big guys divide a county up and each has a monopoly.

Only the government can create monopolies using rules to encourage competition.

          • SamSooner says:

            You got it.

          • Drew says:

Not to mention that municipalities generally sign exclusivity deals for infrastructure that effectively promises a localized monopoly for that area.

          • Birddawg says:

            Thanks Bob.

          • Bob Edwards says:

I worked in the telecommunications industry for a few years. It’s a industry that is more about regulations than innovation.

          • jimintexas says:

I still work with a lot of regulated telecom. Big innovation and progress inhibitors.

I will try to find a link.
He was probably just filibustering or whatever

        • Boom says:

  • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

The big 12 isn’t expanding and Baylor isn’t going to fire Fart Briles. I’m over these topics. I can’t continue to beat a dead horse. Baylor will do ANYTHING to be relevant in football. RGIII alone generated over $500 million from boosters and sales alone. That taste of success can be too much for some and it’s shown with Baylor.

  • Patvan says:

So who polices the football programs now, there own university?

  • hOUligan says:

Reluctant to go there but Briles always looked like a sleaze. Now we know. But the Baylor Board of Regents needs to hang their heads in shame if they think it’s going to right things by tossing Starr. True, the buck stops at his desk and he likely has had a huge part in keeping things quiet but he didn’t actively recruit these criminal types.

    • Fear The Magic says:

They should just change the name of the school to Bail-or

      • hOUligan says:

        Winner….winner… brisket dinner!!

        • Fear The Magic says:

Can we change that to a pastrami ruben?

          • SamSooner says:

We have place here in Akron that serve great deli sandwiches; it’s a hole in the wall but a local dive/favorite. They have the best pastrami: I always get a grilled pastrami, on Italian, with swiss, and thousand island dressing. They give you close to a pound of meat. I have to workout 8 hours to work that off, though.

          • jimintexas says:

Sounds like the sandwiches are worth it

          • SamSooner says:

Jimi, they are. It’s the NYC style sandwiches. It’s bunch of scruffy, grumpy men making your sandwich. They know me by name: not because I go there a lot but because I tip them very well.

          • Fear The Magic says:

Sam Im in NYC the pastrami ruben ( pastrami/ melted swiss/ thousand island dressing/ saurkraut ) capital of the world so I can totally identify!
They pile it sky high and only charge like $25 lol. A lil expensive but worth it. Its two meals.
            Now I want one damnit.

          • SamSooner says:

My wife is leaving for NYC tomorrow, with Eva, my youngest daughter. It’s a school trip. I can go have a sandwich without her asking me what I did for lunch. LOL!

          • Fear The Magic says:

Well if you ever get to NYC yourself check out Carnegie Deli in midtown Manhattan. You wont be sorry.

          • SamSooner says:

I’ve heard about that place. We have plans to go this summer.

      • Bob Edwards says:

      • cush creekmont says:

Good job, Fear. Now the “all new, fully-redeemed, nicer-than-nice” team from Waco can be The Bailer Briles. It is much more indicative of what they ARE.

Exactly.. By admittance.. everyone is going to be under a microscope even more.

I haven’t paid attention too much in the past. But it’s funny how media personalities, bloggers, outlets, find different synonyms when putting stuff out there to drive attention to their sites. Here Marcus says “considering” firing Briles. Well duh you can safely assume that they are considering it, that’s not news. You can even say “Board of Regents meeting to discuss allegations, Briles fate may be decided”.

      • Birddawg says:

“Board of regents behind closed doors are inching towards the decision of a drastic redevelopment of their institution. President has been fired. No one is safe. This includes Art Briles. A big 12 championship winning coach. ”

  • BigJoeBrown says:

The Mayweather/McGregor match up is a joke. It has to be fight, not a dang boxing match. Just a straight up fight. The whole idea that it’s only boxing doesn’t really prove who would be the best fighter. Remember old school UFC back in the 90’s. It was different techniques squaring off against each other. Boxer vs. Sumo, Tae Kwon Do vs. Kung Fu, ect…

    • MoJoOkie says:

Agree; a boxer wins a boxing match 99%, but in a fight those odds change.

    • KJ1123 says:

Yeah it’s dumb. Conor is just trying to get a pay day. They’ll never do an MMA match.

    • j l says:

Wont happen. Floyd is looking for 50-0 to break marciano’s record. This is 100% about his ego, and trying to stake a claim as the best ever.

    • Shelby is a Patriot says:

McGregor would have a tough time hitting Mayweather in a boxing match. He’d be crazy to even try. But McGregor has said it’s all about the money for him. As for Mayweather, he’d lose in an MMA fight without question. Personally, I don’t think it will happen.
Tae Kwon Do vs Kung Fu…That would be a pretty unfair fight. Lol

      • KJ1123 says:

I saw a video of McGregor sparring recently and my first thought was “are you kidding me?”….in relation to world class boxing…he’s terrrrrble.

        • Boom says:

yea but he can take a punch like Tex Cobb.

        • Shelby is a Patriot says:

McGregor is a very good boxer (though boxing in mma and in a boxing match are very different) but Mayweather is practically untouchable. Even Canelo Alvarez, who is a far more talented striker than Mayweather, couldn’t defeat him. McGregor would have no chance.

          • KJ1123 says:

He is definitely untouchable in boxing. I’ve followed boxing alot longer than MMA and I hope it makes a big comeback as far as popularity. I’ve always said that the decline of boxing came due to the quality of the US Olympic fighters. I went out to Vegas and watched Mayweather against Baldomir 10 years ago and was floored by how good he is, I dont think Baldomir landed 20 punches.

          • Shelby is a Patriot says:

Another problem for Boxing I think is the expectations of it. It’s important for combat sports to attract casual viewers, and when you have matches like Mayweather vs Pacquiao instead of Mayweather vs Oscar De La Hoya, people are less interested in watching again. Same goes for MMA when you have two fighters that don’t show up for a fight or the fight is mostly om the ground, like a Maia vs Shields Jiu-jitsu showdown. Most people aren’t interested in the technical stuff, they want to see a slugfest and they want to see knockouts. Mayweather is hard to hit, and he isn’t known for knocking guys out, so a lot of his fights end up being snooze fests for those who aren’t as knowledgeable about the sport.

          • KJ1123 says:

Yeah totally agree, I totally respect Mayweathers skills, but it got to the point where I would watch to see if he would loose. In MMA there’s only a couple of fighters who I like to watch go to the ground as much as their stand up. BJ is…or was one of them. I think that may be why Im starting to like the female fights, they don’t usually go to the ground and they really do have some slug fest.

          • Shelby is a Patriot says:

BJ Penn is forever a legend. His “comeback” against Frankie Edgar at TUF 19 finale was hard to watch, though.
The female fighters have definitely been fun to watch, though I think the strawweight division is more talented and entertaining to watch than Bantamweight. Still, the lack of talent in women’s MMA, at least on a technical level, is noticeable. But with the exposure MMA is getting right now I think that will change down the road.

          • KJ1123 says:

Yeah those were tough fights, Frankie just had BJs number. That was tough to watch. The fight against Nick was tough to watch too. I like the strawweight division too. I’m pulling for Claudia in the TUF final.

I guess well have to wait to see BJ return now…sheesh
            http://www.foxsports.com/ufc/story/ufc-bj-penn-vows-to-return-after-anti-doping-punishment-is-finished-ufc-199-052416

          • Shelby is a Patriot says:

I gotta go with Joanna Champion. I’m a big fan of hers. Either way, it’s going to be a great fight, but I suppose after their last fight that’s pretty evident.

  • KJ1123 says:

This pretty much explains the Baylor Scandal…..
    http://www.baylor.edu/content/imglib/1/6/6/1/166191_640.png
    ….in coming freshmen football orientation.

    • cush creekmont says:

“Expect an announcement by June 3rd.” Do the board members think the scandal will get tossed out with the Memorial Day leftovers? What do they need ten days more to think about?

      • Bob Edwards says:

If it comes out on Friday or any day during the holiday weekend they are trying to cover it up. Typical PR move is to release it after 5 on the Friday before a three day weekend. By the time everyone is back in the office, it’s been forgotten about. Though that may not work so well for them since it is a sports related issue and sports media doesn’t shut down on the weekends.

        • cush creekmont says:

Government, corporate, even individual scandals and “info” about them do operate as you said. The level of the scandal and the wider media may keep things roiling if the Baylor board’s “fix” appears to be appeasement rather than a cure for the problem.

          • Bob Edwards says:

True, it may or may not work. However, when they release does tell something about their attitude toward it. Are they coming clean or still trying to cover up/play the PR game.

      • Rick says:

In fairness to the board, I do think the report is quite exhaustive. It may take quite a bit to go through the report. Secondly, the concerns of the state and national Church organizations must be answered, and the most important factor is the young ladies themselves. Beyond what the courts decide, Baylor MUST take care of those ladies. The Church will not stand for it. I was hoping for a not so quick “sorry this happened, and we’ve fixed it” answering, but more of a “we have a problem, and we will carefully see that plans are in place to procede with much prudence in the future”.

        • jimintexas says:

They also have a huge board of about three dozen movers and shakers. A giraffe is the results of the desire to design a horse by this size of a committee taking on something this serious. What has been happening to these ladies for year after year after year, is yet to be shown to be a priority by anyone at Baylor. We are talking about a lot of dollars at stake. This is not an easy fix for this board.

I have been part of Baptist churches for over 67 years, have lots of family and friends that have attended Baylor. But, I never seen anything that would make me think that the Baptist as an organization would touch this in any way. So, I don’t know what there is for the Church to not stand for. You do realize that the SW Seminary President who was fired, went directly to Baylor and received a prestigious high-paying job, don’t you?

        • OohRah Mama says:

If Baylor gave two sh!#s about the most important factor, this wouldn’t even be an issue – and there would be a lot less young ladies who are victims.

Far too typical. People who profess a faith but don’t care to live it when money is involved.

    • SoonerinLondon says:
